I can't tell you how many times I've tried to pull down the notification bar and I end up shrinking the app. Especially during a phone call when I'm trying to avoid the light sensor (which will make the screen go black)
Any way to disable screen resizing entirely?

Not that I'm aware of. However, the "minimize to window" gesture only works from the top left corner, and the light sensor is on the left of center. So swiping down anywhere on the top right half on the screen should activate neither.

I wish that were the case. However minimizing the window also happens from the top right corner.

Its super annoying. Ive been trying to find a way to disable it since i got the phone.
It only works on certain apps, not all apps. The difficult part is not knowing and trying to see if the screen sizing works or not. It works on gmail, messaging, google chrome and only a few others. Just try to not touch the upper left and right corners of the screen
You don't have to put your fingers near the top to pull down the notification bar when you are on a home screen...

Watching an html5 video in full screen on chrome beta seems to trigger it. it also appears out of the blue sometimes.
Screenshots attached. Its that faint circle on upper left hand corner.
I also get this, but i get it whenever I'm reading an article in pocket, and sometimes the whole status bar dims and some of the icons disappear until I pull it down. Are you on sense jellybean?

i've been wondering the same thing.
Yes. stock rooted jelly bean, so im sure its not a mod.
been trying to figure this out as well,
curious are you guys using google now by any chance?
im on cm10.1 and i get that same thing every so often im beginning to think its google now or something since i always use it for weather. but i could be wrong.
I may have solved the mystery. I pushed the SystemUI.apk file to my computer to analyze it and that icon is called ic_sysbar_lights_out_dot_small.jpg .
This is supposed to be shown on devices with soft navigation buttons like the Galaxy Nexus when in "Lights out" mode to replace the back, home and task switcher buttons with faint circles so you can ,say, watch a movie in full screen and not be distracted by the buttons.
I have no idea why it's being shown in the notification area.. maybe Google added it as an additional visual cue in JB, and HTC didn't bother to remove it?
Anyway, I'm pretty confident that's what it is.
What I watch a video and want to know the time im used to swipe from the top down. This works with phone in portrait en langscape with edge down. I like the edge up with video's bit then how to access the status bar?
You can't.
I hate that we can't. I also like the edge side up when watching videos. It's just more comfortable to hold.

I agree. I spent some time trying to figure out a way to make a shortcut to pull down the notification menu so that I wouldn't have to use the normal "pull down" method. Couldn't find anything.
It feels natural for me to hold the edge up.
I use Next laucher with a swipe down gesture to access the notification panel.

That works regardless of the app you are in?
Thought I stumbled across a fix. Our very own @xodAslan navigation app for the edge panel has a notification panel button but it doesn't work with the edge screen up.

It works with the edge panel down though. Seems like we have to undo something Samsung coded in.
Hello,
I recently started having a problem when trying to swipw from one screen to the next on my Galaxy Note 4. Instead of going to the next screen, the bottom corner of the page "flips up" like the page of a book. "Favorites" and "Recent" apps are displayed under the area of the flipped up page. A little balloon also pops up on the top right corner of the screen. I tried disabling multi-window bit this has not solved the problem. I do not know what this function is called and it is annoying. How can I disable it? Thank you!
I made a mistake and thought it was battery doctor but I found out that it is the app clean master instead.
IDK but I hate this too. I also hate the changes in voicemail, although that may be a T-Mob issue.

Has there ever been a tweak or mod where you can have your notification window come from the bottom instead of top? Seems it would be a great feature with the additional screen size.

Nova launcher can do that with gestures. Or there's a setting in the phone to swipe down on the fingerprint sensor to pull the notification panel down or back up.
What I was meaning is kinda like the control center on the iphone when you swipe up from the bottom of the screen. Just totally move the notification screen to the bottom of the screen once you swipe up.
The furthest you're going to reach your finger is to swipe down from the top for the notification window so why not put it at the bottom being that it's something being used a lot through out the day.
I will say samsung has done a lot for reachability just that one little thing I think would make a huge deal.

Sorry, looks like that feature hasn't been around since ICS.
I'm curious if it's even possible with a custom rom. I always questioned this too. When I had the iPhone 4, I hated switching to iOS 6, but the swipe up from the bottom to access your quick settings was a stroke of genius and got me to actually enjoy it even more after jailbreaking it because you could tweak the odd cosmetics.
iPhone was able to do it through a software update. Why can't Android? What's the limitation and what makes it so limited that no one has been able to accomplish this? Genuine question and interest.
Galaxy S8+ is a phenomenal phone that I think will take quite a bit to outdo it, but the biggest problem with having massive screens is reaching those quick settings. Even with the edge bar, it's still not the same. And the swipe gesture with the fingerprint scanner is neat but that doesn't get you the quick settings a person needs with one hand as well as accessing the notifications.
It would very nice to have that reversed. I have big hands and it's still a pain to always have to use the phone with two hands for those quick things people like to do. Like adjusting brightness, muting, flashlight, Bluetooth etc.
Maybe one day they'll realize people still hold their phones with one hand every now and again and try to tailor that there notification panel accordingly :silly:

It is possible!
It can be done even with an app.
but it can be confusing because of Navigation Buttons at the bottom.
and in this way using this on custom rom can be better >> set nav bars little bit higher and then notification bar below that.......
I think after this idea you will see lots of mods and apps
If I decide to do it I will inform you
I always wanted that swipe down for quick access to controls in ios on Android. Why haven't they implemented that yet? Took them many years to have a "night mode" on Android.

Have never really understood the ergonomics of it. Bottom Status Bar should at least be an Xposed Module!
Ok so I did a quick search and didn't see anything but I'm working so I didn't try too many variations.
Anyways, when I open a folder that I have in my edge panel, it automatically opens the keyboard every single time. It is probably the most irritating issue I have and I logically see no reason for it. The problem becomes more irritating when you have more than 6 items in a folder. The keyboard covers most of the bottom row of icons so you have to close it before selecting what you want. Is this the way it's supposed to work? Is there a way to disable it?
I don't personally use the apps edge panel but I added it to test this and I do not get the keyboard popup on either the Samsung keyboard or Google keyboard.
Alright, I've figured it out. Apparently it's a bug caused by changing the dpi which makes no sense but I'll roll with it. My dpi was set to 480 and when I put it back to default of 411 it doesn't do it.
Can't u just move the bar to edge panel up to top of the phone? I made mine smaller and moved to top, no issues.

The issue isnt the location of the edge panel. I can swipe the edge panel out fine and everything is just peachy. However, when i tap a folder on the edge panel, the folder opens but for some reason so does the keyboard. So, when a folder contains more than 6 items, the bottom row is covered by the keyboard. That means you cant click on that row, and the keyboard doesnt close without tapping the back button. Basically its a nuisance thats not worth the trouble. I prefer everything small but will have to live with it. Im going to try other DPI settings and see what the max is before this bug presents itself.
