Google keyboard in Chrome missing suggestion bar (it's present in other apps) - General Questions and Answers

So I've just got a new Motorola Moto G and I'm having an issue which is really frustrating. The suggestion bar above the keyboard that gives you alternate word options for what you've typed isn't visible in Chrome. It appears in the messaging app, and in some others I've tested like Google Keep, but not in the web browser.
It was there when I powered on the phone for the first time, then it vanished. I couldn't work out how to get it back, so I did a factory reset. That fixed it for about thirty minutes, but now it's gone again.
I've also just noticed that after I finish typing something in Chrome and hit enter, the bar appears for a fraction of a second as the keyboard closes, leading me to believe it's there but isn't appearing on screen.
Does anyone have any advice?
Thanks

[Q] Facebook and eBay on the Nexus S?

I picked up a Nexus S from the CPW a couple of days ago. I instantly upgraded it from 2.3.1 to 2.3.6 to compare it against my Galaxy S for speed (the difference is amazing - just goes to show how bad RFS actually is).
Everything installed OK except a couple of apps:
Facebook: App opens and requests login details. Enter details and get a little progress circle that starts at 12 o'clock and works it's way round, back to 12 o'clock. The screen changes to have the blue bar across the top and a white page with progress circle. It then sits there for ever more! Adding a widget to the launcher works as expected (and displays the news feed) but when clicked on, goes to the same blank page.
eBay: App opens. I sign in and it successfully displays the number of saved searches, reminders and messages. I can click on saved searches, it will display the list of searches, select a search and it'll display the list of items. Click on an item and it will display the item view. Click on the description and it'll go to a blank white page with 'item description at the top'! Occasionally it will display the description but most of the time it won't!
I've tried closing the apps and deleting to cache to no avail.
I've also upgraded the phone to 4.0.3 but that also results in exactly the same problems!
This has all been done using a WiFi connection (that works fine with the Galaxy S on stock 2.3.5), in aeroplane mode as the temporary SIM I've installed doesn't have data enabled. The same problems also happen when no SIM is installed.
All other apps function correctly.
Does anyone have any ideas?
Many thanks in advance.

Certain apps not responding to taps

Okay I am having a consistent problem and am wondering if this is happening for anyone else...
If I Google search the color "black" and go to the Image results, I absolutely cannot tap of the images or the navigation for image pages. When I tap it, nothing happens at all, I cannot change result pages or open up larger images. This happens on Chrome and the stock browser.
I also had this problem before with Youtube, occassionally. Its very, very annoying..
Does this happen when the HOX is plugged in? I had a crappy charger that used to mess with my touch screen.
Although this could be a hardware problem. Try testing it in a multi touch testing app. See if there are any dead zones or something (unlikely, but worth a test)
I tried a testing app on your recommendation and it works perfectly fine there.
On the browser with Google image search, I can tap most of the webpage, such as the search bar, related searches, etc. The links that dont work are the actual images, which I can't load, and the numbers below the images for pages of results. In fact, when I tap the pages for results, the link changes color to indicate that I tapped it, but nothing happens at all.. it just.. does nothing. I found out that this works for any image search on google.
This also happened for me during a Youtube upload, it would not recognize any taps, but after I exited and came back later, the taps registered. Also happened under the settings menu.. I exited and then it worked again.
Which browser?
Is the browser in 'mobile' or 'desktop' mode?
Chrome and the stock browser. Mobile search too
my LG THRILL is doing the exact same thing tonite. WTH?
Not working here either.. Galaxy s2!
Same here, weird.
Anyone got a solution yet?
I would suggest a clean wipe..if rooted make sure to wipe all cache

Nexus 5 Keyboard Issue- Glitchy and choppy

Hi,
I am sort of new to this forum and I hope I am posting this in the right place. Apologies if there is a thread about this elsewhere but I have looked online and couldn't find a thread about this issue. It is hard for me to describe in words about the issue I am facing but I will try and be as descriptive as possible
For quite sometime now I find that my nexus 5 keyboard has become extremely glitchy and choppy. I find that the keyboard isn't as smooth as it was when I first got my device. There seems to be a bit of a lag between the time I press the key to the when the characters actually appear. It is very apparent when I am typing sentences in one flow. This is causing too many typos and is extremely annoying. I could, at one time, comfortably type long text messages with hardly any typos. The typos that I get can be considered almost impossible to generate unless you are willingly typing random characters
I am on android 4.4.4 and this problem has existed for the past couple of months. I don't have any custom firmware installed. My frequently used messaging apps are Viber, WhatsApp and Google hangouts. But this issue seems to be there even when I am typing something in the browser
Any help would be appreciated
Thanks
Have you tried a different keyboard? Like SwiftKey

Hi MasterElaichi and welcome to the forums.
The keyboard that your using for your messaging apps is the same as the one in your browser also... Im pretty sure that it's the Google keyboard by default.
I actually use Android Keyboard (AOSP) instead of the standard Google Keyboard and can switch between the two if I want the the system settings menu.
Couple things you could try-
To start you can go to "System Settings/Language and Input" then scroll down to keyboard and input methods. Click on the settings menu to the right of the Google keyboard or what ever keyboard you have selected. and go through you settings and make sure everything is set to your preference (just by chance somehow the settings have change) and check your auto correction aggressiveness, I have mine set to Modest.
Other than that you can try and and go to "System Settings/Apps/All" then select Google keyboard and clear the Data and Cache. This will wipe you personal dictionary if you have one though.
If the following doesn't work and the Google keyboard keeps acting up, you might want to try an different keyboard all together. Like Android Keyboard (AOSP) or Swiftkwey or Kii keyboard... Just some popular one to recommend.
Hi,
Thanks for all your responses. I have tried swiftkey in the past but I find it weird. For some reason I prefer a standard keyboard
My google keyboard settings are set to the default. I have turned off vibrations and the auto correct is set at modest. I have tried clearing the cache numerous times in the past but that doesn't work either
If I were to type this message using my Nexus 5, it would be riddled with typos and spaceless words. I am talking about typos that are impossible to get when you are in the flow and just typing away. For example, when I want to type "m', the letter "m" pops up, but the character that appears in the text area is either "." or the previous character would have disappeared. Similar thing with space bars. Sometimes pressing a space bar will just create a space but the characters may not appear
I have tried using my phone in safe mode but it helps only a little bit. I did contact the google support centre. As expected, they are asking me to do a factory reset and if that doesn't work they say they will rma my phone
Hi,
I uninstalled apps like Viber and Whatsapp thinking they could be the cause. I have also been running my device on safe mode. The problem still persists
I found this thread online. My problem is quite similar this one here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2274818
The only difference is that the OP here had an issue with an HTC. The problem appears to be keys that are close together are getting pressed. And I am certain my finger's aren't that fat and stubby that multiple keys get pressed
I don't want to factory reset my phone without exhausting all my options to fix this problem. Any input will be helpful
Thank you
So I have decided to do a hard reset on my phone hoping that would resolve my keyboard issue. I have managed to backup my photos and stuff to google doc. i wanted to back up my whatsapp data onto my laptop but for some reason my laptop (vista) isn't detecting my phone
I have reinstalled whatsapp in the past after removing and I didn't lose my whatsapp data. Do you think a hard reset will make my whatsapp data irretrievable? I am asking because there is an option in whatsapp, when you install it, that asks if you want to back up conversations

if you hard reset and wipe the internal memory then your whatsapp back up will be deleted.
Try and uninstall any keyboard updates you may have done.
I would say the same thing and it would be the first thing I would try, uninstall the updates and data in settings/apps. The google keyboard works fine on my N5 and N7.
I performed a wipe cache partition through recovery mode. There seems to be some improvement but it is too soon to tell

Google Search starts slowly on CM11

I hid the search bar on Trebuchet. Google Now is disabled, tool. When I swipe up from the home button to open the Google search, it takes one or two seconds (which is really long in daily use) until the search window appears. When I repeat this shortly after, it starts instantly. I seems to be still loaded in RAM or something.
I remember the search window opened always instantly sometime ago. Has there been an update? Or does anybody know how to run Google search in the Background without the search bar? Or can someon verify this behaviour on his Nexus at least?

Dictionary Update Download issue

Putting this here because a search finds the issue popping up in the last few days across multiple phone forums on multiple sites. Galaxy Note II running CM, over the past couple of weeks have had at least three instances where I get a notification that has a "pause" symbol in the notification bar, and the banner says "dictionary update information". Once I log on to wifi it does it's thing and goes away. Pressing and holding gives me the option for app info, leading to the download manager entry, force stopping the download manager makes it go away, but even if I'm not downloading things Inbox wants the download manager to just run. I don't think I've EVER had to update a dictionary before. Kind of suspicious after the samsung keyboard hack, although I dont think I have the samsung keyboard installed, Input Devices lists Google Keyboard, Google Handwriting Input, Google voice typing, Keepass2Android Offline(not selected) and Swiftkey(my preferred.) Might be the handwriting input, that's pretty new, although one of the others might have updated recently. I can't find anything useful in Catlog. Any ideas welcome.
