Screen turns off quickly after waking from lock. - LG G Flex 2

Basically for no reason i can find, sometimes when waking the screen from lock (screen off) it will turn the screen on and immediately turn off again so i have to keep trying to turn the screen on until it acts normally. when it happens and how many times i have to try to wake the screen until it acts normally seems completely random, does anyone know whats going on or how to fix this?
i also believe it did this before root (stock)
H950, 5.1.1, v11z, rooted, xposed

Happens to me too from time and time again, also like you said it's random and it happened to me on zv8/zv9 so not sure why.

Glad its not just me. Its annoying as hell and i have no idea how to fix it

bump

do you all have screen protectors?
Make sure you aren´t covering the proximity sensor thats at the left side from the earpiece.
This used to happen to me on G2 and G4.
Seems like knock on and several other apps are linked to the proximity/light sensors.
Try removing the screen protector or cleaning that part, sometimes it gets dirty from making phone calls or stuff.

no screen protector and I keep my screen clean constantly

Try to install some testing tool which tests proximity sensor and see if the phone reacts

This has happen to me as well, its annoying haha. but If you let your screen chill for a few seconds after it does it....it should be fine afterwards.
but in all honesty...get rid of the LG flex2 if you can...my screen is completely glitchy! Big pink horizontal line in the middle of my screen..and below it is a fully shaded pink distortion of color that keeps flickering...the phone is F*ked basically....and this is my 2nd time with this phone. My first one did it too..but not as bad as my LG Flex 2 right now! I am getting a new one today..hopefully it doesnt happen again. seems like a Hardware malfunction

Never heard any of your problems. I got 3 LG Flex 2s home and none of them having trouble. All on ZV9. Just mine rooted. Must be your provider making your life misserable.

I just replaced the screen of my LG G Flex 2. Unfortunately, the screen light goes off anytime I am making a call or I receive a call, this makes it very difficult for me to end the calls I make or receives. Please how can I fix this problem?

It's because of the proximity sensor.when you cover it screen goes off.same on every other g flex 2.

Screen wont turn off when in a call...

My Shift is not shutting off the screen like it should while in a call. I am sure this is draining my battery quicker as well as being annoying when I hit mute, speaker, or hang up with my face. Any idea what my issue might be?
Phone is stock:
Android Version
2.3.3
HTC Sense Version
2.1
Home screen widgets and icons...
Sense Clock with weather
People, WiFi, Battery (HTC Widget), Voicemail
Messages, Market, Flashlight, Camera
laid out in that order from top to bottom, left to right. I have only one other widget on another screen for Player Pro. Running Lookout.
Download "proximity sensor finder" from the market.
And once opened you should see it say 9.0cm. cover your finger over the proximity sensor (little circle to the left of speaker grill) and that number should change to a 0...
if it doesnt you need to take your phone to sprint
I guess it is broken. I covered it and it did nothing. It messed up a few times where it would work a little, then come back on now the screen is on all the time. I have resorted to pushing the power button while in a call to turn the screen off. Does the same thing I guess but it really doesn't matter much. I think I am going to get the Photon soon.
Thanks for the tip on the app. I think I will use it in the future.

No problem,
Although since that is just a defect that came with the phone, Sprint will replace that for free, without any problems.
(and tell/show them the apps responses if they do, they cant deny proof )
Just make sure you run the RUU beforehand if you do take it in and your rooted (but you said your on stock 2.3 so im assuming your not anyway)
Nope, all stock... I will look into returning it... it is a good phone and wouldn't mind it as a back-up phone.
Bump...
I still have my EVO Shift and the day before yesterday I did something to my phone to try and fix my led issue. It wasn't a major problem with it but something was obstructing the led making it hard to see when I got notifications. Well It started by me using a fine bristled brush to clean the little mesh earpiece screen with to clean over the led... it started to work and then made it worse. I then decided to just remove the mesh screen. I pried it out as gently as I could which made it easy to clean the obstruction from the led but as a very welcome side affect it also fixed my proximity sensor!!! The phone now functions fully again. So to all those willing to try it if your sensor is "broken" try removing the metal mesh part of the earpiece... just be very careful.

[Q] Screen Issue? (XT926)

I received my XT926 as a refurb and I have been experiencing a strange screen issue.
I will often have my phone on a dock, charging and sometimes I will notice the screen is black like it's off, but the touchscreen is responsive. Hitting the power button does nothing but it makes the sound as if I had locked the phone. Hitting the power button a second time will turn the screen on like normal operation.
Very rarely I have noticed the screen will turn off while I'm actually using the phone and it's a weird effect. The easiest way to describe it is that it looks like entire lines disappearing randomly over a period of 1-2 seconds, going from all visible, then to all black, kind of like slatted blinds being closed, but at random. After this, it displays the same symptoms as if I had found the screen off while in a dock/charging.
Now, I don't want to say it's related, but I first started experiencing this on the Stock KitKat update from Verizon. I am currently using Cyanogenmod 12 nightlies and I am experiencing the same issue. It seems to be happening with greater frequency.
I have also experienced the blue screen effect when certain animations/elements/apps are up on my screen, but I think they are unrelated.
Also, there is a faint discoloration bar about 2/5ths of an inch thick uniformly vertically from top to bottom of my phone on the righthand side (just under where the notification bar would be if turned horizontal).
I've tried to find more information about this but my search results have been relatively lackluster (90% of the results are trying to sell me the phone or specification pages)
So I'm breaking down and turning to here. Does anyone know what's going on here? My current theory is that my screen is going bad. I have no intention of replacing the screen on this phone (would rather just buy a new one), so any suggestions that don't involve physical hardware repairs would be appreciated.
I thought i was the only one experiencing it.
The screen turning off with a weird effect happens rarely but yeah it happens. And the blue screen effect, i noticed it only happens when im on the youtube app when the video stops working because of my connectivity issues.
Im not rooted nor is my bootloader unlocked. On the latest system version. Sounds like a software problem but hey im no expert.

i also have this with my referb i made moto give me my money back and they let me keep the phone for me it was very rare but my new phone also had a really bad screen all yellowish and bad white balance in low light if you are unhappy with it call them and say you are unhappy with the replacement here is the white glove number 800-653-7185 they are more understanding and nice but you may lose you ability to unlock your bootloader on the new phone if it comes with the latest software just a warning
I have that screen off with lines slowly disappearing thing, too And, yeah, it's also a refurbished one, bought from one of the sellers on aliexpress... I thought Lollipop was the culprit or something like that. Oh, well... It rarely happens. And luckily I only have that, not the second issue you mentioned
I am having this exact same issue. The weird lines-to-black screen thing, and the flickering blue screen when watching video. Are you saying the solution is to call Motorola and ask for a new phone?
The blue flickering can be prevented by going into Developer Options and checking "Disable HW Overlays".
The discolored stripe on the screen sounds like burn-in; these AMOLED screens are much more susceptible to burn-in than the LCD screens used in older phones. Whomever owned the phone before it was returned to Motorola probably had something running on their screen continuously with a bright-colored bar at the top, likely in a car or desk dock. The screen is very easy to replace yourself with an eBay part, if you're inclined; it involves 2 screws and 2 connectors.
I've seen the lines-to-black thing exactly twice since I got this phone refurb two months ago. Sorry, I don't know what causes it or how to avoid it, but the workaround is quick and simple enough that I'm not worried about it, yet.

Screen randomly turns off but phone still on, backlight often stays on

Hey guys, i'll try to explain the situation as best i can below, hopefully someone can work out what is wrong.
My phone is about 16 months old. About 2 months ago i dropped it twice within the space of a couple weeks. There were a few cracks along the screen, however it wasn't very noticeable and i wasn't going to bother having it fixed. The problem started a couple of weeks ago when i went to grab it out of my pocket, however i found out the screen was black and it wouldn't turn on. I don't really know how to describe it but it was acting very strange...
- The screen would have white/gray bars all over it then turn off, then it would do the same with very thin vertical lines that were white/gray/other colours...
- When i get the screen on, it generally turns off again within 30 seconds, however it can stay on for a few minutes.
- If the screen is on and i press the lock button, it almost certainly won't come back on.
- Restarting the phone or holding the power and volume button nearly always gets the screen to come back on. It often then restarts but turns off again shortly after.
- The phone is otherwise still working when the screen goes off; the notification light stays on and i hear messages etc coming through
- The backlight often stays lit, revealing a gray screen opposed from total black. Sometimes it does not stay lit however.
- When the screen came on it was often unresponsive to touch
I had the screen replaced yesterday by a phone repair shop and the phone is still not right. I have factory reset the phone and also wiped the partition cache. Other than that it is still not working. IT seems to be working better... The screen always seems responsive to touch when it is on, and it doesn't seem to be turning off as often. It generally starts up and works fine when i start up by holding the power button and down volume button together... However even still it sometimes just flashes up with a few thick white/gray and black lines on the screen..
Does anyone know what can be causing this and how i can resolve it? If you need any more information please let me know and i will try provide it. I could try get some pictures of what the screen is doing when i finish work. Thanks guys, i appreciate any input.
EDIT: I managed to get a pic of what i mean by the thin vertical lines all over the screen. This just appeared when i tried to restart the phone after it the screen had once again stopped working. The imgur link is gIFMGD6
Anyone have any ideas?
Hey, did you ever figure this problem out? My phone just started doing the same thing. Can't find much info about it.

Yeah, i had the screen fixed hoping it would fix it, however that didn't work. Turns out it was the motherboard, don't know what was wrong with it in particular other than it was simply going faulty. Had someone replace the motherboard on it for $50 and have had zero problems since! Hope that helps you.
Thanks for the response. I tried replacing the screen too with no luck. Unfortunately the same place that replaced the screen said it would cost $400 to replace the motherboard!!! The phone cost less than that so it looks like I'm gonna buy a new one.

Nexus 5 really weird screen problem

Hi,
I have this really weird stuff going on with my Nexus 5 screen. I cracked it a couple months ago and bought a legit replacement screen for it and installed it myself (glass, lcd and frame). I fixed it with good instructions and it worked properly for two months. However though, now when I take it out of a pocket and try to turn screen on, sometimes it just doesn't light up. It's still on and every button works but the screen doesn't turn on. I have to give it a light tap or two on the back in order to make it light up again. Same thing happens sometimes when I'm using the phone normally, the screen just goes black and goes on after tapping it couple of times. Otherwise the phone works normally like it did when I bought it two years ago and after running couple of tests with screen, everything seems to work from touch interface to the graphics card.
Tried looking it up, no results.
I've noticed that the front camera doesn't work for some reason (probably just broken) and the battery lasts in use only 2-4 hours which isn't that much of an issue since I'm looking for a new phone. I just want this one to last long enough till I buy a new one.
It comes up when tapping the screen or power button? It could be a power button issue.
The screen comes back on when tapping the screen or the back of the phone. The power button isn't the issue. The screen just goes black but nothing else happens. It doesn't turn off or go to sleep mode.
Strange issue. I've never experienced it and any problems I had were related to the power button.
Could it be a loose connection inside the phone? Maybe an issue related to the proximity sensor?
Thats actually what I've thought. I have checked the phone's insides twice and didn't see loose connections, and the problem feels like it's related to proximity sensor since the screen going black happens exactly same way that when calling someone or doing something else where proximity sensor shuts the screen. It's really weird though...
Huh, I took backplate off and unscrewed the motherboard cover and took everything apart and rebuilt it and now the problem is gone. Seems like there was just some bad connection somewhere.
Glad you got it to work without having to pay someone to fix it

Anyone else having this problem?

When I try to pull down the notification bar on the right the screen goes black. Also turns off the always on display. I'm assuming it's something with the Proximity sensor. Tired of all the little bugs and problems with this phone. I’m returning it. Just curious if anybody else is having this problem.

I've had that happen on my Pixel 2 XL. Only once or twice and restart fixed it every time.
It's definitely the prox sensor. Always On Display shuts off when the phone is in your pocket or face down, which is detected by the proximity sensor, so that's totally normal. As far as it happening on the home screen, it seems like the phone thinks you're in a call, which would use the proximity sensor to turn the screen off near your head. I would reboot as @jimv1983 suggested and see if that works.
Are you using a screen protector? Sometimes those can cause issues with the proximity sensor, but usually it just causes the screen to shut off and not come back on during a call as it senses the protector at all times instead of your face.

I had a case with a built-in screen protector on it and I thought that might be what was causing it but after taking it off it still did it. Weird thing though once I put it on the wireless charger it stop doing it. Hasn’t done it all day even with case on. Weird. Still thinking about taking it back to Best Buy and swapping it out.
I've had a similar issue where the proximity sensor will not deactivate as long as a call is going (can't hangup, can't unlock, can't speaker phone, can't mute, etc.). I have to wait for the other person to hang up. Get an automated robo-call you accidentally answered....oh well, guess you have to listen to them. I have never been so angry at a phone as I am with this one. Especially as expensive as it is. I absolutely would NOT have bought this phone if I knew ahead of time how aggravating this would be! Thinking of sending it back. BUYERS BEWARE!

Had this very issue with my pixel XL and blowing on the top speaker grille of dust with compressed air solved it.
But if this is out of the box that sucks. It should not be like that. My pixel was approaching two years when that happened.
