Hi Guys
Just recently purchased a P8 here in New Zealand and so far its pretty good.
The issue im having is with the stock email app (Emiui 3.1) and push notifications. It would seem that the stock mail app is being killed off when the screen turns off hereby stopping all email notifications until you turn the screen on and open the app again.
There is a feature in this OS called "protected apps" which allows you to do this on an app by app basis. Obviously I want it turned on in here so it dosent get killed off, except its not available.
I get around it with bluemail but the stock app is actually very nice looking and much faster than third party ones ive tried so would love to get it working. Does anyone else have this phone and run into this? I haven't been able to find much online as its not the most popular device at the moment.
p.s. would be great if this could be moved into the p8 forum, I cant post there yet as my count is too low but its probably the only thread im going to get some help in.
update
Ok so I have found that its possible to set exchange accounts to automatic(push) but not IMAP.
Im guessing this is just a missing feature of the emiui 3.1 stock app. Anyone running this software thats run into this? I have confirmed its the same on P8 Lite.

Hello all. Been reading and learning for awhile now and just registered on the forum. Firstly I want to say thanks to the Mods, Devs, testers, and anyone who has posted information on these forums. Thanks to you all I can keep my old phone going with cool and relevant software! I'm new to flashing so decided to start with Gingerbread based ROM's on my Infuse so that I can see the progression and learn. I flashed Emancipation A1 first and really liked it. However, I could never get FB notifications to work despite all of the app settings being correct. I decided to give AEON v1.4SL a try so I flashed it. I tried FB first thing and had the same issue. I tried a factory reset and then put FB.apk, SNSaccount.apk, SNSprovider.apk, and updateandfeed.apk, from the deleted apps package of AEON, in /system/app. I let FB update to v3.8 and still had no luck. I then Heimdall'ed back to stock UCLB3 and tried FB v3.8 and it worked perfectly. All of my other notifictions (gmail, outlook, yahoo, gtalk) work fine. Any help with this issue would be much appreciated. Thanks!
I would really like to get the Facebook notification issue worked out. Am I the only one who has this problem on Emancipation A1 and Aeon 1.4SL? Do other custom 2.3.6 UCLB3 ROM's work properly with FB notifications? Please help, I have searched this issue and can't find anything that resolves it.
Hi all. I realize not many people are using Gingerbread based ROM's at this point in the game. In case anyone is, I have some more details for this issue. I flashed Legend 4.1 ICS Edition and had the same Facebook issue. I then started FB messaging myself from my Girlfriends phone while watching running services on my phone. As soon as the message came through on my tablet sitting next to me, I would see one or two additional services pop in for FB on my infuse. Still no notification would ever display. So its like the FB app sees the message but the launcher won't fire a notification. I tried different launchers and had the same result. The closest I ever got was with AEON 1.4 SL using the Xperia Home launcher. Xperia Home would show a message count on the FB shortcut but nothing in the notification bar. Anyone have any ideas?

check out your notifications status in FB maybe it's unchecked
FB settings were all correct. I hashed over and over every setting. I've moved to CM9 to try it out. FB notifications function properly with CM9.
Hello!
For ages, I held on to the old version of Facebook's messenger in order to retain the SMS chat head functionality. However, this was always a finicky feature as it would disappear depending on the model of phone and OS version detected.
When I loaded the APK onto my newly 4.4-flashed phone (CM11 based), it no longer gave the option to use SMS. With the advent of the default SMS app system in 4.4, I worry that the app wouldn't work at all, even if I fooled it into revealing the option to toggle SMS on.
Are there suggestions? If I modified the contents of the manifest to work with my phone and android version, would the archaic SMS handling system even work under 4.4?
Cheers, all
Sad, four-day bump.
Bump....please help. I need FB SMS on KitKat.
I have been searching for this as well.. Hope someone can let us know how to get this to work. Thanks!
bump.. same problem here
Biggest of bumps. I've been at this for quite a long time, but still no info. The lat stable rom for my GT-i9300 can only be KitKat based. Though I don't think that Lollipop would be any different regarding this issue. And I reeeeally don't want to get back to JellyBean. Anyone found out anything?
Hi there,
I recently got a Z3C and rooted it, then upgraded back to 23.4.A.0.546. I removed some apps that I dislike with Root App Deleter and installed my other favorite apps, including AdAway.
Now, the issue I experienced since the first boot is that all apps are not receiving notifications in real time, I have to open the app to "stimulate" it to fetch stuff.
So for example if my phone is in stand-by and I don't turn it on, no WhatsApp messages are received. I actually think I receive nothing until I open the app itself, and also when I am writing, it seems like the app is having troubles at getting online and delivering as it shows a waiting mini-icon on messages instead of instantly delivering them.
I am pretty sure this is not due to the rooting, maybe AdAway could be involved, but it's probably something that changed from Android 4.4 to 5.1, as I had same set of apps on 4.4 without problems.
I checked that apps are allowed background traffic, and they are. I also get this problem on either HDSPA or wifi.
Any thoughts/ideas? Thanks in advance!

Hello and thank you for using XDA Assist.
Sorry to hear about your trouble but fortunately there is an XDA area dedicated to the Sony Xperia Z3 at http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3 . I suggest you post your question with all relevant details in the friendly Q&A forum there at http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3/help where the experts familiar with your device will be best able to guide you. Note that AdAway is extremely unlikely to have anything to do with your problem since it's only active while updating its source files as explained in the AdAway thread at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2190753.
Good Luck!
Hi
A friend bought a UMI diamond X a month ago.
From yesterday he stars to have some commercials each time that he takes his phone.
Did the put something in the stock rom that activate after a little time of use ?
Someone knows something?
thanks
I don't know if there is a delay or not before adds start but Chinese phones are known to have quite aggressive ad network even with stock apps & they have weak privacy often, so it could be a stock app. Some Chinese phones have also been shown to do silent upgrades, so you don't know when they update something (can't recall if Umi is one) which is why is may only start a month later.
However it could be due to malware/adware downloaded from a website or if he has used one of the Chinese app stores to get an app or any store that is not Google you are increasing your risks, those stores are not well regulated and many apps have had adware/malware inserted into legitimate looking apps like youtube etc. Did he recently download some apps from an app store that was NOT Google?
see eg

(also lookout for Chinese apps (or any other unusual apps) with western alphabet like Baidu, which this guy seems to ignore)

Thanks.
As far as I know he didn't install something for a while and on the umi diamond X there is no parallel app store.
He did a factory reset but if there are new commercial pop up i'll try your links , thank you again
Android 5.0 and above, just download, install DNS66 from Fdroid. Update all hosts file.

I have the same problem, couple days ago commercials started shows all time, i tried use DNS66 and it doesn't help.
Do anybody know how to root this phone?
I can tell that on UMI Super apart from the battery additions and MediaTek apps there is no of that, very little bloat.. alost AOSP.
This also should help you identify some MTK apps http://bitlog.it/re/dissecting-an-android-chinaphone/
Bringing this up .
I have exactly the same problem. Ad starts showing up on lock screen and every few day some fake app installs out of nowhere. What can I do?
Wrote about it here on xda
The only thing I haven't tried yet is going to stock but now I found this topic and not sure if even that would help. Did OP had any luck with this?

I saw another forum where someone says you need to freeze the "super cleaner" app (can't be uninstalled) that comes with the phone to stop this & maybe any of the DU branded apps also if they
(edit: on other phone eg Zuji they have another app "battery saver " that seems to work similarly and serve ads or/or push apps to your phone in the same way that needed to be frozen)
I am having lots of problems with my umi diamond x screen keeps jumping and goes into the black screen with all your settings on like wifi aeroplane mode screen brightness etc it locks up the phone, I am also getting lots of adds and the phone is getting hot and using up the battery too, I have taken the sim out and sd card and it still does this so the issues are not sd or sim so it must be the operating system on the phone or something, I have tried everything but cant fix can anyone help or should I just buy a new phone
you can try a factory reset or you can flash the phone with an original room or a custom room but as far as I remember there are very few custom ROMs for this phone
Hi !
I am ex-owner of Nokia 7 Plus and new owner of 8.1. After a few days with this phone, i have noticed, that there's something wrong with multitasking and background services, that are supposed to receive push notifications such as Messenger. Multitasking is a nightmare as compared to Nokia 7 Plus or Zenfone 2. Phone closes running apps and cleans RAM too quickly/ too aggresively. The same thing happens to push enabled apps such as Messenger, Facebook etc. Notifications appear with big delay (up to 5 minutes). I have made a discovery and i have noticed, that Adaptive Battery keeps turning back on itself + according to https://dontkillmyapp.com the problem is that one nasty system APK called "Battery Saving" (com.evenwell.powersaving.g3). I can tell this APK is a troublemaker, because once force closed, problem is gone until next reboot. It can't be disabled permanently. It's frustrating.
The faster Nokia gets rid of this APK or fixes it, the better.
I haven't encountered any delays with respect to the delivery of my notifications. But I do agree that some apps are killed way too early whereas they should be kept in memory. Maybe they are just trying to find a balance between users who want more battery backup and those who need constantly running apps in the background. I do not mind closed apps, but all I want is a whitelist which ensures me that these few apps will never be touched by the battery optimizer.
I don't face any notification delays or anything like that, and apps over a period of time are and should be removed from background ,that aggressive power saving is from Google itslef not from Nokia ,if someone still wants to make it run all the time then select don't optimise from power options it should help
My kids have a 6.1 but don't appear to have this program in their apps listing, so I'm wondering if maybe it's been removed in a monthly patch at some point? If people are still having this problem, have you tried following the instructions on the linked site (dontkillmyapp) to remove it with ADB?
i dont face notification delay... all good
Supposedly Nokia removed the culprit (evenwell) from their devices, so I take it that all is good now? (I will be receiving the 8.1 today, so wanting to make sure I do my homework).

Well, I am glad I returned the device without taking it out of the box because bootloader can't be opened. Got a OnePlus 5T now, so a custom operating system can be installed.
Ok, thanks good for you.

There is no such apk called com.evenwell.powersaving.g3 on my Nokia 8.1
It is easy to uninstall those aplications, i have a 7 plus and have uninstalled all evenwell cancer of the phone. Check on Nokia 7 plus forums, you need a pc and copy past a command and that's it.

Maybe because you have already upgraded to Android 10, which got rid of this package.
