When I hold the power button in and release it, all I hear is a single click, then nothing happens. What could be the issue?
The click is the camera module iirc
Nothing on screen could mean it's been knocked or dropped, and the display cable has been pulled out
Open it up and look for the cable that wraps around the battery, when it's dropped, the battery shifts and pulls the cable out
Just push it back in (If that is the problem)

I plugged my phone in last night and when I woke up today it was off. I pulled out the charging cord and held the power button with no effect. Thinking the cord may have slipped partly out and let the phone die, I plugged it back in and was greeted by the battery charging screen, showing full charge. I pressed the power button and the phone went black. On further investigation, it seems my press of the power button didn't have to do with it turning off, as whenever I plug it in it shows the full battery screen for a couple of seconds before turning off again. If I unplug it and plug it back in it just repeats this. I've reseated the battery, I've tried holding volume down and the power button, and nothing's changed the phone's behavior. The phone is completely stock, and never opened beyond the battery and card doors.
It's pretty old and I'm pretty sure I do have an upgrade available, so I'm not too upset if I have to buy a new phone, but I'd like to confirm that it is FUBAR before I go that far, and I'd like to be able to extract my data if possible. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

If you have access to another battery, you could try that, but since you're seeing the full battery symbol I'm guessing that that's not the issue. You can always recover your sdcard data by putting it in a card reader, but the phone's apps, app data, and settings may be more difficult.
Well, turns out the problem was much less serious than I thought: my charging cord has bitten the dust. I'm not sure why I've been seeing the full battery, but when I took it to the AT&T store, the person who helped me plugged it in and it started right up. I just need to get a cable that's not my years-old piece of crap that came with the phone.
I got my tf300 some time ago, and just today i recieved all the components needed in order to change it;note that the tablet was disasembled for more than a month, but before that, the battery was charged, so it remained like a month like that as well i don't have best memory of the disasembly proceedure.
So today, i managed to pack it back (without putting the back cover of the tablet, and tried to boot it, but nothing happened.So i put it on the charger where a sound (charging sound) beeped and a red led turned on (later green).I let the tablet charging for more than half an hour, and tried to boot it again but no sign of life at all.I removed all the screws etc and disassembled it for one more time in order to check if everything was put right.
Both digitizer cables was secured.
Screen cable was fine.
Also i tried to check the on and volume rockers cable and by mistake i ruined the plastic top of the female adaptor, but the cable still fits fine inside (that happened during the second disassebly so it was not the original cause for sure).
Also, i noticed that there is an on/off switch next to the power button.This switch was ON the whole time.
I found a button at the digitizer circuit and pressed it (tablet off).
I've tried to remove the digitizer and try to boot.Nothing happened.
What i am afraid of, is that the whole proceedure make me burn some circuit of the tablet by static electricity or by sort-circuit something by my slightly swetty hands.

Uhh, the on/off button should be always on ON if you are turning on the tablet, always have it like that...
Also, make sure that the digitizer's end is well plugged

If you're referring to the reset button on the Touchscreen pcb, that usually does not turn anything off, just resets to boot the tab again. In any case, you said "tablet off", meaning it was "on" before that? How do you tell it was on then? One way to find out would be to hook it up to a tv via HDMI. If it comes on, either the lcd or the cable is the problem. I've run into a situation where the tab works (comm. thru PC) but the graphics part is dead, hence no display, in which case the only solution would be a new motherboard as graphics reside within the CPU.
I mean it was turned off before i press the button.I will try to find a cable in order to check it on TV, but if hte GPU is dead how the HDMI works?By the way,i just tried to plug the tablet to my PC, and the PC recognize the device!That probably means that the device is on,but something goes wrong with the display.

If the GPU is dead then of course there won't be any display. But how do you find out? With the HDMI connection.
Yesterday my power button had some issues, my Nexus 5 was a brick unless plugged in with power, in which the Google screen will go on and off (basically boot looping). I decided to open the back of my phone to take a look at the power button, and got my Nexus 5 working again. HOWEVER when I closed it I forgot about the black cover that covers the motherboard and started trying to put in the screws in, (which was very hard). While fumbling to put the screws in, I realized that I forgot to put the cover on and had to unscrew my phone. But it was too late, I think I may have caused a electrostatic discharge on my motherboard or perhaps my battery due to the electrostatic being discharged from the screw. Though I'm not sure which one is fried, but I know one of them is. So how do you tell if which is fried?

currently my phone is bricked, nothing happens if I hold my power button, holding volume + power, hold it for x seconds, tried all that.
though when I plug my phone into my computer, and hold both power and volume button, it becomes connected w/ my computer and I could see it as a device connected to my computer, but then disconnects after a few seconds.
So i recently picked up an XT1254 for a great deal. The phone is pristine, not a scratch on it. It looks brand new. It is totally unresponsive. If I plug it in the light on my charger turns from blue to green, telling me it's fast charging. But nothing from the phones LED. Also if I place it on a charging pad, color changes as well. I tried both options over night and still nothing. The phone does get warm (usual amount), leading me to believe it is charging the battery.
Holding the power button - nothing (no vibration, no moto logo, no LED responce)
Holding power + vol down - nothing ( = )
USB to PC - phone is not detected at all (I have ADB and current moto drivers installed)
I opened it up, and everything seems to be in order. No loose connections, no water damage. I checked the battery, and it reads roughly 2.5 volts across each pair of pins. Should it be reading 3.7-4 volts across each pair?
I unfortunately don't have another phone to check the MB, battery and LCD against.
I don't have a SIM installed in it, but I doubt it makes a difference?
Any ideas or advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks-

Quite low for li-ion/-poly, I don't think it ever sees 3v or under in normal circumstances. It might be well into "damaging the battery" territory at this point, and it should certainly be higher after charging it for a while...might be a goner.
Have you tried removing the battery completely and running it off the USB cord? I would expect it to, if nothing else, bring the screen up complaining of a bad/missing battery. That said, I've never tried unplugging mine to see what happens, so no real idea.
I would suggest trying to fabricate a factory cable (which would provide power directly, ignoring battery status), but I don't know if post-OMAP Motorolas are physically configured to use them. If they aren't, it'll do nothing at best and burn up traces at worst : \
Also, holding Vol - while plugging it in should bring the boot menu up, regardless of available battery charge (therefore serving as a quick test to see if the power button is the problem). But that might go out the window as well if the battery is deader than a doornail.

It doesn't. When I fresh-install a ROM, I remove my SIM card to make sure none of my data gets used before I can turn various unwanted syncs/auto-updates off. The phone doesn't care at all, and nowadays Google isn't too whiny about a missing SIM either.

Sorry for reviving an old thread, but I have similar problem with my Droid Turbo. During the replacement of the battery and speaker, I noticed oxidized resistors near the proximity sensor (which wasn't working since the purchase of the phone second-hand). I have cleaned the oxidized residue with ethanol and assembled the phone. After pressing the power button, the touch buttons light up and phone was vibrating every 20s but the screen was blank. So I disassembled it again to check all the connections but everything was fine. Since then, the phone won't even vibrate, just heats up a lot after holding power button. I have tried both batteries, speakers and also powering the phone without battery (only power cord connected). Both batteries are shoving around 3.8V.
Do you please have any suggestions how to fix the phone? Or should I assume that the motherboard died?

I got a Z3 which was described as having no power and just flashing red LED when power button is pressed, after being dropped flat on the floor in a gel case.
The phone is in good condition with no external cracks or breaks and the only damage is the USB connector flap doesn’t stay closed.
I decided to take a chance on it thinking maybe the battery connector had come loose or similar.
When the volume up button and power button is pressed it vibrates 3 times.
When the off switch is held it also vibrates - but not every time.
When charger is connected the red LED sometimes comes on for 5 seconds then goes out.
When trying an a stiff apple type micro-usb lead, a couple of times I got a solid red LED. I left it on charging for 24 hours but the LED remained red and it was still the same - no power.
So I suspected maybe the micro USB connector may have damage.
Not detected by windows or Xperia/PC companion.
Sony Mobile Flasher just says “Device disconnected”.
So I decided to open it up.
It had previously been opened up and possibly the battery changed as is had horrible double sided sticky stuff holding the battery in and the back cover to the battery - cheap shop fix to avoid getting the proper adhesive seal?
The battery connector seems loose and I couldn’t be sure if it was connected properly.
The battery voltage was about 2.70v so I was thinking maybe below what would be correctly detected.
I decided to boost charge the battery for a bit.
At 3.30v I put the battery back in but the behaviour was the same - maybe the LED flashed red a few times at various points.
Any advice what else to try?

try removing the battery plug in the phone to your pc and start pressing the power button rapidly if it gives a green or a blue light then your is phone is ok it might just be a battery problem but if not
You are in a heap of trouble
In most Cases the red light only cames on when there is somthing wrong inside the phone
it can be easy as a battery replacement
Or worse like mine it can be an Power Management IC that is shorting out due to lose or bad connections
