recover data after flashed to stock - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

My Verizon GS3 softbricked a few days ago. I was running stock but had it rooted. It would freeze at the Samsung black and white screen on boot. I could only boot into Recovery Mode and Download Mode. The last back up I did of the internal data was 6 months ago. I want to recover the data before doing a hard/factory reset.
I read several post and was unclear on what to do in my situation. But I tried to gather as much info as I could. So I decided to try Odin and flash with the same firmware to my phone thinking the data will be saved. I flashed my phone with I535VRUDNE1_I535VZWDNE1_I535VRUDNE1_HOME.tar and it PASSED with success. Then I flashed with VRALEC.bootloader.tar and that FAILED. Then I flashed with VRALF2.boot.tar and that PASSED. My phone now boots up in Factory Mode (the black and yellow text box floating on the default home screen) but I can't see my old data or my normal home screen. Under the Storage Settings on the phone I can see that my 16GB internal memory only has 488MB left. But when I check it with Windows Explorer and File Explorer (in Linux) I can only see a few folders that total 4.27MB of data. So there's just over 15GB of data sitting there that I can't access yet.
It looks like the data is still there but I need to know how to access it. I have word docs, pdfs, pictures, video and mostly audio clips from lectures that I would like to recover.
Does anyone know how to recover this data? Please post or message me. Thanks

Did System Update on Galaxy 6 - Now stuck on Samsung Logo...

Hi, I'm in a bit of a rage right now. Need my phone for work, and also afraid of loosing all the pictures and videos I've taken
So my phone has worked perfectly for months, updated several times, but today after the last update it's stuck on the boot logo, the Samsung one.
I've tried hard reset with Power+Down, it just reboots to the same logo and stays there forever. I also can't get into recovery mode with Power+Up+Home, it just gives me a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark in it for 1 second then boots back to the samsung logo. Tried Kies 3, it doesn't recognice the phone at all, tried everything in there.
The only thing I can access is the Download mode Down+Power+Home, I have no idea what to do there, I've read about Odin but that looks like some NASA-stuff way above my knowledge, isn't there just a way to get it back to previous version? Orginal, stock and all that? Don't wanna mess with roots if that can be done
I'm out of ideas, please help me, are all my data gone? Pictures, video etc? :'(
Help please
*Sorry for bad English, not my native, but I hope it got trough.
Sounds like an update gone wrong. Restoring the phone isn't so hard but saving your pictures and data is harder in most cases. You can try using Smart Switch and see if your device shows up on failed updates, maybie it can repair the installation. You can also use Smart Switch to restore the phone completely, but this DELETES everything on it. If you haven't rooted phone and have warranty, I'd return it to Samsung with strict instructions that phone broke when software update and that you want to keep your data/pictures. If the phone is rooted there are ways to extract data from the phone memory but I'd only do that as a last option.

Yeah, I did the upgrade with modelname and S/N trough Smart Switch, it worked, but all data was lost including all my contact phone numbers, hade over 350 :| don't think they are synced either? :|
Anyway, glad the phone works, will never install these stupid updates again, never noticed a single improvment after them anyways

Hi prior to the boot loop by any change did you enable USB debugging in developer options? If thats yes then try to boot your device in TWRP temporarily by flashing or booting into twrp recovery using fastboot. There is a little bit chance you can backup your rom and user data from there. Else you need to consult a phone hardware professional who can backup if possible.

Can I Access the Data Partition in Windows? (corruption problem)

Hi all,
Long-time lurker - used info here ages ago to mod a tablet, but right now I'm working on my fiancee's phone, which is an unrooted Galaxy S7.
Yesterday, her phone took a complete **** out of nowhere. It spontaneously rebooted, said it was applying an update, and then the Android dude fell over with an exclamation mark next to him. She had just finished recording some audio that she *really* wants to get back (a press conference she got into at Comic Con).
The message now on the phone is:
Phone storage corrupt
The data partition has been corrupted. You need to reset your phone to factory default settings. This will erase all your data.
I've tried to connect to Windows and I can't get at the device - I have no way to change whatever connection mode it's going into by default. I've also tried getting into the phone through ADB, but the device isn't recognized.
I could really use some advice here
Anyone?
Thanks,
-Jeff

Reboot into recovery/download mode and see if you can access adb. If not flash stock firmware in Odin (Not csc, as that will wipe data)
If flashing stock works, I would flash stock again after you get the data you want (including csc the second time)
Sent from my SM-G935U using XDA Labs
Eek. The data header gets marked as corrupt when this message appears. Chances are it will reappear after reflashing and because Samsung encryption is proprietary it will be hell to recover. If Craz's suggestion fails you may need to chalk this one up as a loss

Recover data from corrupted storage

Hi all,
I have a Galaxy S7 Edge SM-G935V and the other day I put my case on and put the phone in my pocket not realizing I had put the case on upside down. With the case on the wrong way, the power and volume buttons were pressed and the phone rebooted several times. I thought I was just getting notifications when my phone was vibrating in my pocket, but in reality it was vibrating because it was rebooting. It must have booted to recovery and/or download mode and then because the buttons were still pressed, rebooted again and again. When I checked my phone after a few minutes of it unknowingly rebooting, it was in recovery mode so I attempted to boot normally. It didn't fully boot, but I got a message "Phone storage corrupt. The data partition has been corrupted. You need to reset your phone to factory default settings. This will erase all your data."
Now, I'm an IT professional so I know how storage disks work. I know that the partition table is probably corrupt but the data itself is probably intact. I would like to recover the data on the partition such as photos, videos, texts etc, but since the phone doesn't fully boot, I can't get to the storage from a PC, and when I connect via ADB I get the message "error:closed" when I try to do anything.
My questions/thoughts:
In the same way you would slave a damaged hard drive to recover the data, is there a way to access the partition without booting to it?
Is there a way to do a full ADB backup of the partition and try to extract the data from the backup?
Is it possible to install a custom recovery and do an image backup of the partition and try to extract the data from that?
What is the likelihood of recovering the data after a reset to factory settings? I have access to professional data recovery software and I'm willing to spend some money on specific software for Android recovery.
Is there any other way that anyone can think of to retrieve data from an Android device that can't boot? Or to repair the corrupt partition?

Galaxy S II skyrocket softbrick, help recover files ! Clockwork Mod fail?

I have softbricked my at&t samsung SGH-i727 running Android 2.3.X (probably stock, but I can't remember). I believe I did this when I was in settings and chose to wipe data from my google wallet app. My phone immedidately shut off. Booting phone now has intro animation with flipping colored tiles and then has a black screen instead of loading the gingerbread 2.3 OS. I remember rooting the phone to run outside of at&t network.
I have no recovery backups stored (maybe for the ROM but thats all)
I am able to hold volume up + volume down + power button to enter clockwork mod 5.0.2.7. In separate attempts to be able to boot into android again, I wiped the cache partition, the devlik cache, and repaired permissions. All these functions seemed to work in CWM.
The next step was to try and mount data and recover files to a PC. I encountered this problem.
E: unable to write to ums lunfile (no such file or directory)
After some research on this forum, apparently this version of CWM might not have this function working properly. I thought it was my golden ticket to get my files backed up to PC.
Can someone advise on my next step. It seems there is software for helping me that costs $40-$140, but it isn’t clear to me that it will help. I think the software wants me to put phone in download mode and then connect to the software on my PC.
I am looking to first recover photos, contacts, and message history. After that, getting the phone back to it’s working state would be a nice bonus.
Google Play has not worked for me for at least 3.5 years. Some core apps were still working great though. I hope someone can shed some light on this for me. It is not clear if I’m able to charge the phone since I have no feedback for the charging status. TIA !
