TF101 with yellow triangle in recovery - how do I fix it? - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I bought a TF101 from craigslist...
It connects to the playstore, but shows an error when I try to download any apks.
I want to root it, but when I go into recovery mode, it first shows the little android guy with gears for about 3 seconds, then goes to an android guy with a big yellow triangle and an exclamation point.
I'm assuming this means I have no recovery files... and since I have no way of getting them, how do I get them?
The tablet has 3.2.1, and build HTK75.us_epad-8.6.5.21-20111216
Thanks in advance!

I believe the yellow triangle is the stock recovery.
Check post 7 from this thread, I think you will need to do the same.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/eee-pad-transformer/help/tf101-root-upgrade-t3249902
Upgrade to ICS, use 1click root to root and install custom recovery. Once this is done you can use the newley installed custom recovery to install a newer TWRP version and install the katkis lolipop rom if you wish.

[Q] Asus Transformer & CWM

I rooted my Asus Transformer TF101-B1, but I can't get into Recovery. I know rooting was successful because I get the # prompt in ADB shell and can run root-only apps like Titanium Backup. I've tried every method for getting into CWM/Recovery that I've been able to turn up on XDA and Google, including:
* Running "adb reboot recovery"
* Holding Power + Vol down during boot, then pressing Vol up within 5 seconds of the device powering on.
* Selecting "reboot into recovery" from the ROM Manager app.
Nothing works, it just does a normal boot every time. I even did a factory reset to try and get into the stock recovery (a suggestion I found on another thread here), but that didn't work, either (and my device still appears to be rooted).
I'm hoping someone out there can provide more insight/advice, as I'm pretty well out of options.
Device info:
Android version: 3.0.1
Kernel: 2.6.36.3-00003-g8038d35, android 'at' Mercury #1
Build: HRI66.US_epad-8.2.3.9-20110423
(all stock)
ok, I managed to get into CWM and now my question is, "where can I get the latest version of CWM?" I've seen several posts that just say, "head over to the CWM thread and download the newest version", but they don't give links and I didn't find much searching the forums.
Sorry for being such a n00b...
Im also having a similar problem though my transformer wont do anything after i choose to boot into recovery.

How did you get into recovery? No matter what I do it just boots normally. adb doesn't see the tablet anymore either..and I already rooted it so adb *was* working.

For real. I rooted succesfully. Currently trying to flash a rom, but I don't know how to get into CWM.
Same issue here. Can someone write how they got into CWM?
I used RazorClaw to root my Transformer, yet when I try to reboot into recovery, it gives me the Android with the Caution symbol in the middle. It looks like I cannot get into ClockWorkMod, either.
On www (dot) clockworkmod (dot) com, it does not list the Asus Transformer as being supported with a version of CWM. Rom Manager shows the same thing, so I am forced to select the Xoom or Nook Color.
What are the steps to get from Root to CWM Recovery?
Thanks!
Ok so I'm at the same part of the problem everyone else is in this thread.
I've done the following steps:
Installed Java SDK
Installed Andriod SDK
Rooted via Razorclaw
device is recognized when i do "adb devices" in command shell
install ROM Manager by Clockwork Mod from App store
tried to boot into recovery while connected to PC using Vol Down + Power Button and I get Android Man with Caution with nothing going further. if I unplug the cable from the PC I can't seem to get into Boot Recovery. I've asked for help in asus-transformer on Freenode.net with no help what so ever. From what I can tell my model is a B50
Any help would be appreciated from what I can peice together on the forums the install order would be
Root
CWM on App Market
CWM Recovery by roach
Nandriod
install ROM
Correct me if I'm wrong.

Edit: Problem solved, I read somewhere that you needed to enable USB Debugging on the tablet which is correct. But you should not do it until the correct time I enabled it from the start which is wrong

I don't get it. I've been having the same problem as you. So I turned off usb debugging and still had no success getting into recovery in spite of a successful root. Advice anyone?

Where is the original recovery image ???

Could anyone help me out, I have been searching for about 2 hours all over to get the original recovery image back on a friend Nexus S, he had issues with CyanogenMod and now want to be back to stock.
I have tried my best to get him to rethink this but, nothing to do. I have so far followed the procedure found here and everything went perfectly until I tried to reboot into recovery.
Now not only cant I get into original recovery but, I cannot even get the clockwork recovery. Instead, I get a android robot with a yellow triangle and exclamation mark.
I could re-install clockwork recovery with fastboot but nope, he wants the original one.
Can anyone help me to find it
EDIT: The supposed to be original recovery image I have gives me:
Exceed blocks 0x000000020 > 0x00000001e
even after a Flashboot erase recovery

Relax friend, you did better than you thought!
The android with the exclamation point IS the stock recovery. When you see it, hold power and press volume up to reveal the user interface.
For future reference, flashing a stock ROM will typically install the stock recovery as well.
Cheers!
Yup thanx

That's why I don't root other people's phones. Just don't like the feeling when something doesn't go right. Or always having to fix their problems. It's just a matter of time before they become curious and check it out for themselves.

[Q] ICS update failed

Hi,
I just tried performing the ICS update on my Transformer. However during this process, the tablet showed a yellow triangle with a black exclamation mark in it. I waited for about 10 minutes to see if anything would happen, but it just stayed on this screen. So I powered it down and tried turning it back on, but it just gets stuck on the Asus/Nvidia splash screen on boot.
I have tried holding the power button and volume down and entering recovery mode, however I get the same yellow triangle as I had before. If I wait without going in to recovery I get the option of performing a cold boot or wiping the data on the tablet. If I select cold boot, it just hangs, I have left it there for 10 minutes or so to see if it would work but get nothing. I have also tried wiping the data from this menu then retrying all the steps I have mentioned above, but it still doesn't work.
It is not rooted and I have applied all other updates to it without trouble so far. Is there anything I can do to fix this?
Thanks,
Ryan
I had the exact same problem. Got it fixed. Use the method from this thread: tabletroms.com/forums/transformer-rom-development/1071-asus-transformer-nvflash-stock-3-1-stock-3-2-recovery-roms-unbricking-tools.html
Thanks for your reply. I noticed on that page that it says that if the serial number is BD70 or above (which mine is) do not use the tool. Has there been an update that allows this to be used on the newer units?
Thanks,
Ryan
Hi there!
I got a similar problem yesterday and the error was that a file inside the DATA partition could not be deleted. I noticed when doing a factory reset from CWM.
If you have CWM and you can flash the "super wipe tool" you can fix the problem. Then you re-flash the ROM. I got it working and now I'm on a clean clean clean clean.... clean shiny install
check my threat if you want:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1516204
Hope it helps!
I'm guessing I do not have CWM as I do not know what it is?
Thanks,
Ryan

Ok, I'm going to help you unbrick your device. But you need to forget everything other people in here have told you. Ok? And just do. Don't question. Just follow the steps.
(1) Go to the following asus webpage, choose android as OS and download your version of the 21 firmware. WW, US, TW, etc.
http://www.asus.com/Eee/Eee_Pad/Eee_Pad_Transformer_TF101/#download
(2) Rename the downloaded zip file to "EP101_SDUPDATE.zip"
(3) Move zip file to a micro sdcard.
(4) Insert microsdcard into the TF.
(5) Turn off TF.
(6) Power on by pressing power button and volume down buttons at the same time. When white texts appear on upper left hand corner, release power button and volume down buttons and press volume up button.
(7) Watch your TF unbricking itself.
(8) Leave it alone to do its thing.
(9) Write me a check for 2,000 yen.
Thanks, that has sucessfully unbricked the tablet.
However if I try to attempt the ICS update again it says checking integrity of firmware file and then says update failed.
Does anyone have any ideas as to why this is happening?
Thanks,
Ryan

Download is corrupted. Have you tried again?
Yes I have, about 10 times and it always comes up with that error.
I had the same failure and had to install .13 and update 3times to get to ICS. Got it from the Unlockr link. Worked great and then rooted with ViperMod.
A clean install is seemingly not having as many issues. Plus I already have an AOKP ICS rom on my phone, so I already know most of the ICS features.
I did try downloading .13 and installing it the same way as I did .21 (putting in on the micro sd and powering on with power & vol - to get into recovery mode), however when I try this I get the yellow triangle and black exclamation mark again, only this time it does not stop my tablet from booting back in to .21.

This error comes up when you have a corruption in your stock recovery.
You won't be able to "downgrade" to .13 the way you did with this. Unfortunately, there's no easy way for you to go about this. Here is what you need to do. Yeah, it will be a little long.
(1) Root via nachoroot.
(2) Install CWM via recovery installer. Can be found in the app portion of this forum.
(3) Download the repacked .13 version from the following link.
http://dl.project-voodoo.org/transformer-roms/3.0.x/
(4) Download stock recovery.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=606402&d=1306284085
(5) Flash the repacked .13 version via CWM.
(6) Restart the TF.
(7) Flash the stock recovery.
(8) Restart TF.
(9) Upgrade via OTA. One of the updates will give you the appropriate stock recovery.
Failure to follow my instructions precisely will result in brick.

Red Triangle with exclamation mark in recovery

Hey guys, been searching the net for a fix but haven't had any luck finding a solution.
Here is the problem
I have the HTC Sensation. Have previously S-Off, Rooted and installed the Android Revolution HD <http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1098849>
Everything was great for a while till I had to take the phone into the repair centre to check why signal strength was so low....... so I restored the original factory vodafone ROM RUU_Pyramid_Voda-Hutch_AU_1.45.862.3_Radio_10.56.9035.00U_10.14.9035.01_M_release_220002_signed <http://downloadforeveryone.com/search.html?type=all&search=ruu+pyramid>
Up till here, everything was fine. Phone was checked and given back to me.
Tried going into recovery to install the Revolution HD ROM again...... but comes up with an Exclamation mark in a red triangle.
I have SuperUser installed on the ROM.
installed ROM Manager from the market place, but when I start it, it says the phone isnt Rooted. Dont know how to root without the Recovery
Anyone have any ideas ? (useful ones)
You should post this on Q&A, you may want to take a look at this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1469296
Hope it helps
Found a solution
after a lot more digging around, i found the following thread which seemed to help
Hopefully it helps others out as well
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1228648
I should mention... I used method B
This normally happend when you try to apply an OTA update with a custom recovery
The red triangle with exclamation isn't an error or problem or anything, it's what the stock recovery looks like!
At this screen, press Volume Up + Power, and you get the menu.
u have to re root your device, and reinstall custom recovery

Boot Loop

Hi Guys,
I am stuck in a bootloop with Asus TF300T. I can power down and get the four icons up but if I go to wipe it tries to restore to factory settings and then crashes with Android lying on its side with red warning triangle above its body. I have tried to install drivers on Windows 8.1 to no avail....
If I get it into RCK mode it states booting kernel recovery then it eventually goes to Android on its side again with warning triangle.
Looked on threads but I can't get into the modes to try what others are suggesting.
I can do this kind of thing on Samsung Galaxy S2 easily but baffled with this.
Thanks in advance.
