OK. Basically you'll have to root it, flash a custom recovery like CWM and go to CM's site and pull a pre-built ROM for your device and install it via recovery. But it's likely to be a tedious process with many many details left for you to figure out yourself.
You'll most likely need Odin/Heimdall to deal with Samsung Galaxy devices. Since you are using S3, a very popular model, hopefully there are already pre-rooted images for your specific model on the Internet. Just grab one (be careful with its version!) and flash it with Odin/Heimdall. Usually flashing PDA(Odin 3.07)/AP(Odin 3.09) alone is enough. There are many tutorials on how to accomplish that with either program in the forums.
Be sure to wipe the data partition before installing CM or it may get stuck in the boot loop.

Trying to update twrp..."trying"

I was trying to update this Nexus S, used to be mine but gave it away to someone, now is back and I was trying to update the whole thing, recovery, Os, yet I can't find a proper way to update the recovery and also I have Win8...when I got this phone rooted I had a Win7 machine, life was great, now with Win8 some things seem far from easy.
So I wonder if any kind soul could assist me as to lend me a hand about updating TWRP 2.3 to 2.7 so I can install a fresh rom, i have tried TWRP manager (useless as it can't find the proper device), Flashify is useless also as it can't find the img file and only shows TWRP 2.1 (why the fk do I need 2.1 when I have 2.3 ?), and Rashr is no good (it simple doesn't do anything at all... )
Any help is welcome.

Thanks so much fo the Zip, is way easier to just have this done via TWRP/ZIP, than trying to install drivers and so on, it becomes a pain when one thing fails and then u have to start downloading files drivers and more.
Now I'll just start checking roms!

Hi There,
The latest Recovery for Nexus S is TWRP v2.8.x. Well u will need to flash the Twrp v2.8.x using fastboot because if you try installing the recovery using the TWRP Manager it will crash. I have a guide on how to root nexus s in the nexus s development section..Go through it . If you have a rooted Nexus S then skip to contect showing how to flash a custom recovery using Fastboot in my guide go through it and Enjoy..
Happy Flashing.
Good Luck

[Completed] Rom Flash Failure, rendered my phone useless [GS3]

had a Paranoid OTA update which usually i click on and it downloads and installs everything automatically. had an update for "pa_i9300-5.1-20150612" which it did download and got into TWRP Boot. i dont remember much from flashing/rooting and so on so i tried to get out, but it didnt let me, kept reloading TWRP on startup.
so i tried to install, i did, and after it said if id like to root cause my system is not rooted (which is funny cause i did root it), so i did. same thing all over TWRP on startup.. and i just did wipe and factory reset and what not.. and deleted valuable data of mine like an idiot.
it doesnt even let me copy in the paranoid file so i can manually install.

odin doesnt recognize it either... don't know what to do.. so frustrated.. and all of that thanks to that stupid paranoid update :/
please help!

[Completed] Cant install driver for download mode

Hi,
The story is this. I installed cyanogen mod 12.1 with TWRP 2.8.1.0 in my Galaxy S Plus i9001. Then got the code to unlock the phone but cyanogenmod doesnt support the unlocking process so I have to use another ROM. I have searched for an official 2.3.6 for my phone and got it, its a tar.md5. After searching, it seems that has to be installed with odin and in download mode, though I would really want to install it with TWRP, or any other easy method... I think tar.md5 are supported in a newer version. Is possible in any way to update to 3.0.0? I got this TWRP from the cyanogenmod thread, its specifically for the i9001.
Rebooted in download mode, connect it to pc and it says that it isnt recognized, of course, no drivers. THEN i click on the device and click update driver and point it to the folder where samsung drivers for mobile phones are, I tried both, the official and the version 1.5.55.0 from this forum, it wont use any, it says that drivers dont match. I also tried the ADB installer, because i dont know what im doing or what its the difference, but it wont detect anything.
So... Could you help me, please?
Thanks you

Have I bricked my phone?

Ok, I am new here and I do not have a lot of experience with trying to flash phones. I decided I wanted to try it on my Samsung Galaxy S6. I have managed to get as far as the TWRP screen on the phone after rooting, but I cannot get the phone to go back to normal, if that makes sense.
All I have is the Team Win Recovery Project 3.2.1.0 screen with install, wipe etc but no matter what I do I can not move on from there.
I had previously downloaded all the files that I thought was needed but still cant do anything.
Any help greatly appreciated, and sorry for being a dumb newbie and not really up to date on all the terms, so any explanation as to what I need to do in simple terms would be a great help.
Thank you
You can download custom Rom on your pc and install with sideload or install stock rom with odin
Hi,
Thanks for the reply. I have it all sorted now
