I just got my One A9 and I love it. However HTC took away the emoji's I've grown to love and personally think look way better than stock android emoji's. Is there any way to get the old emoji's back?
UPDATE:
After looking around I found a temporary fix if anyone else is interested. Just install this app and change your Font to it in settings and you will have "iOS" emoji's.

If only we could keep the HTC font, but change the emojis.

Yeah that's a downside of it
ORIGINAL HTC SENSE & EMOJI
If you are rooted and want sense 6.0 emoji here is a flashable zip that works perfectly
Sense_6_Emoji
I'm also unrooted and have very little desire to root my A9. I've been using this one https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.monotype.android.font.free.emoji.color.htc but I don't like the font either; I use Helvetica. I'm trying to create my own emoji font with Helvetica included but I can't find an application that will let me edit fonts with emoji.
I've emailed the devs that published those apps to see if they can give any insight.

I was just about to post to another thread about this problem. The stock Andriod emojis suck big time! I have an M8 and the emojis are the standard look similar to the Xda ones on the right of screen.
Thanks, I will give this a go!

Does that zip work on a device running CyanogenMod 11? I can't find any other way to get Sense's emojis, so if this won't work, could you, if possible, recommend a functional option?
EDIT! The zip works on CyanogenMod11

Thanks for bringing that up. Actually, that could be a good thing to port to the EVO.
Anyone?
You mean you want the AOSP contacts?

The dialer I think would be under the name Phone.apk but I might be wrong. I pushed it on my EVO and the unit would not recieve serivce. I think We'll need the one from a MotoDroid or Desire. I believe this is a CDMA vs GSM issue that is built into the Phone app.
I've pushed the Nexus one Contacts.apk in and it too was unsucessful. I think it will take more then just the APK's while /system is locked. If they get that unlocked then you'll be able to just run the apk but for now all the files in data/data and /data/app need to come with it as well as any other hooks these apps have.
I've lost the stock contacts (People, why they re-name crap???) while trying to do this. When I get it figued out I'll let you know.
If anyone has the Desire or Moto Phone.apk I'll be happy to give it a try.
Might need any thing from /data/data/ and /data/app/ that is assoctiated with Phone or Dialer.
I would love to get rid of the sense dialer
Yeah.. I put money on the table to get rid of the sense dialer/ contacts.... so.. that'd be awesome if someone jumped on that.
The only way I achieved nexus one contacts is through the froyo port by avalaunch.
The sense phone and dialer app was a dealbreaker for me. The froyo phone app is simple and quick.
There are already roms that have this.

I tried one of the sense removed roms and it still had the sense dialer. Do you know which versions have the stock dialer?
Can we just open up a rom zip file and pull apk's out of it, or is it not that simple?
New version coming tonight

This one as well

I think there is another I've or two that have the asop dialer. On the last one listed the contacts part works from the dialer not the asp icon which isn't a big deal just make sure you select the right one before checking use as default.

Thanks for the links... I have actually used both of those, the top one is 2.2, and very nice, but not quite ready for day-to-day use unless you are willing to deal with no cameras and some flaky app stuff. I think I actually backed up the dialer in particular from it with Titanium, but it wouldn't install since it is 2.2 only.
The second one (NonSense): I tried the stripped one, and it used aosp stuff for many parts, but lots was still sense ui, including the dialer. It is possible that the full version includes it though.
I have non tried the Senseless rom yet, so it may be the one you are referring to.
Edit: I just looked at the nonsense thread a bit, and sure enough he mentions that it has the stock dialer. Sleep deprevation must be getting to me. Maybe the contacts app was still sense, but the dialer wasn't... or something.
Anyone know if this is around? Would like to install it on my Evo 4G.
Thanks.

I actually like the stock android dialer as well, bump!
Me three!!!
Is it like the htc sense lock screen where you just change the name/move/remove the htc lock screen apk and the stock android lock screen comes up?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Nvm it doesn't work, wishful thinking on my part I guess...or I couldn't get it to work anyway...which isn't saying much...

You can't use the native android dialer becasue the HTC dialer is intergrated in the OS so you can't replace it.
but couldn't you just install the apk and then when hitting the phone button it would give the option of which to use? much like the 3g gallery apk. or is that different because the one is a system app and the other isn't?.. I only ask because I would love to do the same to my DInc.

Hey all, I am new here and Andriod newbie, but learning quickly ...
(I originally bumped this post because of same question, but after I did more and more research I finally realized a full ROM swap is the only way... I wanted to leave this post for other's with the same question that search and run across this thread... THANKS XDA !!!)
(Original post):
The "stock" Android dialer is all I want. Basically, I dont have to "replace" the HTC dialer but I want a different dialer available, and I like the Native android froyo one ...
So, I installed the 2.2 froyo SDK (which conains the basic stock dialer) and used command line abd root to pull Phone.apk from the package. I then copied it to my (Rooted) device and tried running it. I get the error:
com.android.phone, activity not found.
Obviously, that didnt work... So Im assuming like you said, its also integrated into the OS, so the entire ROM would be needed.
(Update / edited post)
No, there is not 'easy market dialer app' that replaces your phone application... Maybe the dialer front, but not the phone.
There are many cool ROMS floating around with better dialers. Read, read, read, do your research, and take the dive.
So I searched up and down for my answer, could not find, if im THAT blind I do apologize lol.
I have rooted my HTC Inspire 4G (At&T) with Ace Hack awhile ago and just pretty much used it just to change fonts...I was looking for some themes to install onto my phone but I was wondering if the themes had to be spacifically for Ace Hack? Also, I know you can change fonts and remove stock apps ect. with a rooted phone but can I change font color or would that depend on the app I install?
Thank you for taking time to read and/or answer!

wait, wut? The Ace Hack Kit has nothing to do with changing themes. Basically you have some options. Some ROMs have themes built specifically for them. ARHD for instance has some themes that can be flashed. You can also use the UOT kitchen to customize a theme for yourself, it may not be as inclusive as a true theme but it does a good job at getting almost ever aspect. You can also use a different launcher, i.e. Go Launcher or something different, and they have themes for each launcher.
Fonts can be changed by using the font installer app. the color of the font depending on what font you're talking about can be changed with UOT kitchen or with a theme you use. Hope that helps!

haha not a problem! yeah ROM specific themes are few and far between, especially since the ROMs are updated often which sometimes causes changes in framework which in return causes the new to update the theme. You can always try ADW launcher, they too have some themes. If you aren't opposed to CM based ROMs I know they have a theme chooser app as well. UOT though seems to be the best option short of learning to theme that gives you the most customizable experience.
I just got the phone 2 days ago and have been browsing around for answers and come up with very little....
First off, if I were to do the root, unlock bootloader, etc., am I still only limited to ROMs specificially for the AT&T phone or can I use ARHD for example from the other forum?
Second, is there any way to use the real ICS keyboard instead of HTC's or one off the market? I had a galaxy nexus and really like that one. I am currently using a copy from a while ago from the market and its not as good.
Third, I like the revamped messaging app, but doesn't have the emojin support. Was wondering if there was anything on the market besides GOSMS or Handcent, etc. that could allow that with the stock messaging app.
Appreciate your time and thanks in advance

I also came from a gnex, and love the stock ICS keyboard. The easiest way to safely get it for free is to download one of the latest CM9 nightlies from http://download.cyanogenmod.com/?device=maguro&type=nightly
Then open the zip, go to system/app, and copy LatinIME.apk out. Put it on your one x and install it. You'll then have to go into settings->language/keyboard, and enable the keyboard.
After that, go to any text field on your phone (like your browser's URL bar), make the HTC keyboard pop up, then drag down your notification bar and you'll see the switch keyboard notification.
No root required, nice and safe.
That is an awesome trick lol...Do you have any other apk suggestions I can use from the CM build?
It works perfectly! Thanks again

I haven't felt the need for anything else from my gnex, so I didn't attempt to use any other apks. I know a few people were requesting the stock sms and dialer, but you really need to be careful pulling system/app apks out, since there could be dependencies.

NICE So much better to type on now!
Anyone else for the emojin question? I found the answer to the first one.
Thanks
I am coming from the M8, and I can not remember if its something I flashed, or just part of the ROM I installed. . . but I had this dark HTC keyboard and really miss it.
Is there a way to get the keyboard on the A9 dark without rooting?
I have a Sprint A9, and so far there is no root yet. :| So I am hopping that there is just a setting I am missing.
Try the themes application
Create a theme at themes.htc.com then go to the app and download your new theme. There's options to change the keyboard, dialler etc when you make it
Can't wait to root my device so that i can theme till my heart's content...
Thanks!
The HTC themer works really good.
https://themes.htc.com/#/prolanding
Does anyone know how to change the Wi-Fi icon in the notification bar ? I tried installing multiple themes, but no changes yet. Not rooted
exactly where are people finding the keyboard at? I see everything but the keyboard on the HTC theme site. :crying:
