I have a Nextbook 7P, running on Gingerbread 2.3.1, which my father (the original owner of this account) has put some custom ROM or something on it. I'm not a hundred percent certain what all he did on there and I cannot ask him as he passed away in 2012.
Anyways, I found that the tablet does not have Google Play installed, which means I have virtually no way to install any apps. I've already tried checking to see if it was disabled.
I understand some terminology and the basics of ROM flashing, but I am by no means very tech savvy. Back when my dad was alive (I was 11 at the time) he was the major techie and I was sort of his protégé, but all I really did was develop some simple apps, so any simple and easy to do solutions would be very appreciated, thank you.
On google search for the stock rom of your device and flash it.

If you mean restore the original ROM, as in reverting it back to the factory settings, I don't necessarily want to lose any customizations that my dad put on there (for sentimental reasons), especially because I wouldn't know how to reflash said customizations.
Ok then do it with flashify

So, I have a Samsung Captivate, and I've been enjoying the game/puzzle 7 Little Words. My mom (the X10 owner) always plays it on my phone and would love to have it on her X10. Unfortunately, she cannot find it in her market, the app does not support App2SD (as far as I can tell), and my attempts at sideloading have failed. If it changes things, she is running unofficial Froyo.
Is there any way I can get her this game?
Thanks in advance.
You might have to modify the fingerprint in the build prop.
one sec I'll find a good link

Here you go!
www.slatedroid.com/topic/13152-modifying-buildprop-to-enable-protected-apps/
Or, just upgrade her phone to official 2.3.3 and it will now be compatable
Use SEUS or PCCompanion to upgrade, both are free downloads from SE website
DarkSide 4.5.9. musicplayer is missing, was the same on 4.5.5. I hope, that newer builds can be installed as update (without formatting)
Did you try posting in the actual thread containing said rom? Did you download the lite version?
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
...I only posted it here, because I'm an new member and are not allowed to post in dev's. Yes I chose the lite-version, because I only want my hardware running. I don't need other blur-stuff, but I thought, that a music-player is an essential part of lite-blur.
Do you know, if there is a version, that can be installed as an update (without formatting with ext4, if ext4 already exists)? In CM it was possible to install a newer version over an older without wiping, so all data, apps, and settings were kept.
For better "support" you could post it in the Atrix general forum, instead of "General" general Anyways, if the said player is in previous version of rom, just download this older version on your computer, and extract musicplayer apk from rom zip archive (it's probably going to be somewhere in /system/apk ), and load it into your phone.
cheers
---------- Post added at 02:47 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:25 PM ----------
BTW... I have the same version of DS (4.5.9 lite) installed right now, and I see that the music player is included (the one from moto blur).
cheers
I installed the full blur now and now the player is installed. No chance with the lite version. I posted this here, because I didn't knew that it was Atrix specific.
Anyway, thank you for your answer and quick reaction...
I am a MZ601 user from Hong Kong, running EOS4 #132 and Google now is not working.
Matter of fact, Google Now, stopped working for me as soon as Google gave it its last update. Once I updated it through play store (or any other 3rd party market), it would load up, load every card, and then just closes. There will be no force close message or anything. It would just open up, load cards, and then closes.
Google now works when I uninstall the update, making the stock version run, but when I update it again, it would fail me again.
So far have not heard the same problem from any other users other than @5nikers. We have pm-ed each other and we can find a solution.
I am seeking for help, wondering if anyone have the same problem, and if so, any solutions?
Desperate for help,

Hi, either disable voice search and allow google search to upgrade, or pin to the bundled version from the gapps package you flashed and enjoy the full featues.
Cheers!

Also, I'd suggest making a nandroid backup and upgrading to the latest eos4 (-165 and 12/16 gapps)
JB 4.2.1 is nice and smooth with notable improvements over JB 4.1.

So i have a problem. I installed this Rom on my SG5 I got last week. When I received it it was on 5.0, forget the firmware, but I downgraded to NCG build, rooted, and installed safestrap, etc...
So while looking for clean 5.0 based Roms, I found this ROM, and installed it, but I lost Root. While looking for methods to Root this version I saw that not only OE1 is unrootable (which I quickly learned while reading threads for the last 4 days), but anything above OE1 is unrootable, including BOG5 as you stated in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-galaxy-s5/general/g900vvru2bog5-factoryodintarimage-t3179527/page5?nocache=1
Please tell me what I can do to regain root preferably on this ROM.
If not, Can I load one of my backups of my NCG? If this is possible? How do I go about doing that without Safestrap working?
I really appreciate any help you can provide.

So I went ahead and downgraded back to NCG..phewwww....I have been rooted since the Droid 1, and cannot imagine life without it. Neverthless, Could you give me a suggestion for one of your custom 5.0 Roms that is root enabled, and any thing that I need to know before going back to 5.0?
I see a lot of people remaining o 4.4.2, is it because messing with 5.0 puts one in danger of loosing root capabilities for ever?
Sorry for the scare.

Thanks a bunch for your quick response
The original Rom of yours that I flashed was the BS free Google Version. You seem to make a lot of contributions to the GS5 and would like to continue using one of your Lollipop ROMS on it.
The fix I just did was to use ODin to reapply: ALL_VZW_G900VVRU1ANCG_G900VVZW1ANCG_964333_REV00_u ser_low_ship_MULTI_CERT.tar
This appeared to fix everything:
Now I am back on Android 4.4.2
Model is SM-G900V
Baseband NCG
Kernel3.4.0: MArch 31, 2014
I have a Verizon phone.
Where do you advise I go from here
I flashed the google version and can not find a text messages app. Am I missing something.
When I originally tried to Flash the BS Free Rom, I used SafeStrap.
Where I likely messed up was forgetting to add the firmaware and kernel files to the zip file sequence in Safe strap. When the phone booted up it got stuck at the Black Samsung S5 screen. I then used Odin to flash: VZW_BOG5_RETAIL_FULL_FIRMWARE_WITH_BOD5_BL.tar.
umm.. i flashed the samsung verision cant set lockscreen wallpaper and hd calling dont work. gonna try again

G'day XDA.
I have found out that AOSP ROMs (Lineage OS, Cosmic OS etc.) doesn't have the built in FM radio app when flashing the firmware. However the stock Samsung Touchwiz ROMs have the FM and works flawlessly.
So what exactly is the reason why AOSP has this issue? Is it possible to get it working?
My Chipset:
Exynos 7870
Mali GPU
Cheers!
I have managed to obtain a copy of the Motorolla FM Radio and it launches. It gives the error: currently not available.
I believe it need the libraries ported from the stock ROM to the AOSP ROM.

It looks like this may not be developed an longer, not sure because I didn't give it that detailed of a read, but you might try:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/spirit-fm/app-spirit2-free-source-real-fm-radio-t2951455
or
https://f-droid.org/en/packages/fm.a2d.sf/
In both cases, I'd try to use the F-Droid repo in case they are getting updated. The play store links no longer work and when I searched for them there was a result suggesting that the original developer has died, so hopefully they work for AOSP in its current state.

He was a patient dude when I had troubles with an app permission. Most developers don't even bother to address emails, I found out when I was gapps free for a while and was asking people to switch me from Google verification to Paypal.
Also know that he was, for a long time, the only dude in Android development that was working on FM receivers and transmitters on Android, as far as I know, so I hope the apps are still available and work out for you.
