APN settings are wrong can't edit without root - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S6

WTF.. getting really mad.. I need to edit my APN settings because they are wrong for some reason and I can't do anything because it is not rooted.
What do I do lol?

You may have to go into a store and get them to fix it. You could also try reinstalling the version of Android you're running. I don't know if that will help though.

You are absolutely correct, access points can only be edited if you have superuser privileges. The only thing you can do is bring it into Verizon.

[Q] Issue with Simple Mobile APN on G2X

Hi,
I just got a G2X and did the Gingerbread Update and put in my Girlfriend's Simple Mobile APN, but the issue with the G2X is that no matter how many times you select the Simple Mobile APN it goes back to the T-mobile APN. The T-Mobile APN is the default APN on the G2X and it cannot be deleted so I am really having a rough time with the phone as I need to keep changing the APN back to Simple mobile as it won't stop switching.
I saw a similar thread in the General discussions but it was dead so I wanted to start it here. Could some one help me with this??
Will Rooting the phone solve this issue?? Is it possible to edit APN settings after I root the phone. I really love the G2X and the Vanilla Gingerbread but the phone is really becoming useless without the data..
Someone please help me out. Thank you very much.
I would definitely root..def more user friendly when it comes to APN settings and such..try Whitehawkz Weapon 2.5..

Later today when I have some time, I will create a flashable zip that will backup and then change the apns-conf file so the only choice is Simple Mobile. Hopefully that will do the trick. You don't need to be rooted but you will need to have installed Clockworkmod Recovery. But not a bad idea to root for other reasons once you have installed CWM recovery. CWM when it is running runs as root so while in recovery you are rooted, regardless of whether you have rooted your installed Android ROM or not.
Thank you

[Q] How do you delete the locked att APN?

I am trying to delete the locked At&t APN. I have rooted phone. I have installed APN backup and restore into the system directory and it will not delete the locked APN. Does anyone know a way to get rid of that APN? I am using ST and MMS nor Navigation will work until I get rid of locked At&t APN. HELP!
try adding the new one or ones then try to delete? Other than that...sorry,sol.

There is an option apn backup and restore to delete all apns. I do that and it delets the ones I made but not the locked att apn. ?? Thanks for your reply. Anyone else?
Having the same issue - did you find a fix?
Its locked, you aren't supposed to be able to delete it.
You don't need to delete it. Just make a new APN with the Straight Talk settings, and change the selected APN to the "new" one you made. The locked APN will still be there, just not selected or active. Which should work fine.

I would like to delete it because I have been made aware that it is keeping me from being able to send/recieve mms. I can not test the theory without getting rid of it. Any idea how? Thanks.
It's probably not - I can send/receive MMS with StraightTalk just fine.
One thing I *did* discover is that for some apps to work properly, you need to remove the Proxy settings in your StraightTalk APN.
So you have a att one x and you can send mms ? You are using straight talk apn with no proxy settings ?
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
Correct, I have an AT&T One X on Straight Talk with MMS and Data working just fine. Some apps reported 'no data connection' when I had the proxy settings, so I deleted the proxy settings from the APN settings and now everything works perfectly.
So you have the straight talk apn setting minus the mms proxy ? What Rom are you on ?

That's what I figured. If the AT&T is not selected and "grayed out" it shouldn't have any effect on data or MMS. But of course I had no way of testing that notion, since I'm on AT&T.

That file doesn't exist on my UK vesion One X. Is it elsewhere? (I guess I'll search)
Considered using APN backup and restore which can do this I'm told if you convert the app to system app with titanium. But that's donate version only so I'm after a free method first and foremost.
I need it as I'm going to be testing some new APNs and therefore want to ensure my handset is configured as the final launch ones will be (i.e. without the additional inactive APNs).
Cheers

I use Straight Talk as well and Apn Backup Restore works fine for me. You have to copy the apnbackuprestore.apk from your sd card and paste it to system/app. Then install the app and do not open it yet. Then go to Titanium and convert it to system app. Then go back into apnbackupandrestore and restore apns. Delete the proxy information under the Proxy tab only and then make sure you have it set to MMS protocol WAP 2.0 so you can get and send mms. This is an update of how this got fixed. The att apn did not have to be deleted.

go to //cust/cunfig/ and copy apns.xml to your computer and edit that with (notepad++ recommended) and remove all line related to your service provider and save the file then copy back file to your phone ...
now go to apn settings in phone settings and click "reset to default" and it should delete all apns
NOW ... you can create an APN with your desired settings

Removing Cheesecake

OK, I installed Cheesecake after seeing all the signatures asking if I had "checked Cheesecake today?" I had been checking on a regular basis, finding nothing. I came to the realization that I would have no idea what to do with whatever I found anyways, so I decided to remove it. I was unable to find any definitive answers on the forum after several days, so I simply uninstalled it. When I check for updates I get a message saying that it is not available without a Motorola Service Account, then I get this:
Update Failed
In order to complete setup, you need a data connection.
You have the following choices:

Which is followed by 3 choices. It fails when either trying to use the current connection, or when trying to setup a wifi connection, even though I am already connected to the wifi. The third option is to just skip the setup. When I try to skip, it tries to sync my AT&T address book. It will not check for any actual updates. I know that this can happen with Cheesecake installed, but I have now removed it.
I know that there is an update for ICS coming to the Atrix 2, and I would like to be able to get it when the time comes, but until I can get this cleared up, I will not be able to get it. I already tried clearing the cache through Clockwork Mod, as well as doing a "Wipe data/factory reset" using Clockwork Mod. I am using the Stock Rom that came with the phone. What I would like to ask, is how to completely remove this, and return it to normal? As you can probably tell, I am still a noob to this, so if I left any information out that would help, please ask.
Already a thread about Cheesecake: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1801855 Motorola account error
Please, as always, search before making new thread posts…

No problem. You should be okay just to remove the Cheesecake .apk from your phone and reboot. I think that'll take care of deleting everything, and revert back to the 'normal' OTA server service built-in to the phone. Can anyone else confirm?

Not quite, it actually edits a defaults.xml somewhere in .... wait. I'll find it and edit this post.. you would need to change that to match stock (I think I posted the exact file and edits somewhere on here), or you might get by by changing to the Production server in cheesecake one last time, then uninstalling.. edit#1: yes, what Fall of said..
Edit#2: it's the defaults.xml in /system/etc/motorola/com.motorola.blur.service.blur folder...

"you don't have .nv_data.bak and his md5 files, canceled"

Hi, trying to USE the app GSII_repair from the android store.
Phone phone seems to be having the "no sim card" error come and go, I think there is some weird problem with the radios, pulling my hair out.
No the app i got, that might fix it says you don't have .nv_data.bak and his md5 files, canceled
I wonder if this helps figure this out ?
Thanks anyone ! would love someone that could help me a bit here.

Your efs may be hosed which wouldn't be good. That's above my grade level. See if cschmitt can help. He's your only hope of it is a hosed efs.
EDIT, I just looked at that app, and sorry dude, but I think you hosed your phone. It messes with the partitions and is not for the i727.

What does your baseband say in settings, about phone? Also, check your apn settings.
try icenight's fix

I used that app before and got the same thing. I odin'd back to stock GB at the time. Flashed a gb radio (Ics leak just came out) That worked for me.
However this should fix your problem.

when i try to go to the "moble networks" menu, and click the apns, there is none, when i try to ad my apn settings, after i fill everything and out and hit save, it is blank under apns.
If I were you I would start from scratch and Odin the newest official release of at&t or Rogers depending on what carrier you're on. Did you reflash the radio?

Thanks for the help so far...
So here is where i am at now..
Have flashed Slim Bean, and various radios, I had the factory firmware on there for a while, it up and running, I have and IMEI number, my sim card it being picked up as it says rogers, but it says "no service".. it's weird because in the APN settings, it gets the settings from the network, they are there (rogers LTE) so it must be connecting somehow right ?
I have tried searching for available networks, nothing comes up, it's like my attennas are off or broken.
Is there any way to force my phone to see if has any antenna working or something ?
Thanks guys for the help, your the best, but I might need a new phone.

I haven't been on stock in a while, but I thought there was an option in Settings --> System update or something? There should be a 'Update PRL' option.
Dang... my bad. I should have mentioned it being a custom prl for roaming with 3g.
Sent from my XT897 using Tapatalk 2
What do you mean 'restore'? Maybe I missed it (or just don't remember it otherwise), but I don't ever remember reading about the P-Q having such a feature in a menu. The only way I've known to manually push a different PRL is via QPST.

Ahh ic... the restore was based on other forum reading were they mentioned how to flash a prl just by using the hidden menus. They mentioned a view option which got hidden in a later sprint update.... might have been for other phones only though.
If that's the case... then I will work on the qpst method.
I am rather new to custom prl updating...

Just make sure you search for drivers on windows *in all modes* becase there is a diffrent driver needed to see the phone while it is in bootloader mode than what is needed while the system is running.

hehe i had actually sent those as links to my email so i could find them thanks though.
i did find a couple of errors with them... 1. i had to get qpst 378 for the new jb rom. then it would see my phone.. the other was getting into the bootloader menu. i had to press up+down together to get the menu. pressing just down got me to fastboot. after a couple of hours i managed to figure it all out...
needless to say i am not using prl 56015 and now have full 3g roaming
i can see why you have to be careful with qpst though... it reminds me of the old nokia (candy bard phone days) diag program. oh you could mess a phone up good with that... all i wanted was to trun drm protection off so i could make my own ringtones
i thank you all for your help i will post a few notes on the other forums on what i had to do.. hopefully to help others.
Yeah I ran that PRL for a little while, it took so long to search though I decided to switch back to 16015.
I am pretty sure if you mess anything up with QPST you can fix by flashing the FXZ again. (that is, if you didn't make Sprint mad roaming a ton.) After you do that, and whatever PRL work you need you can then flash a recovery or rom again.
I believe there is an app to swap PRL's on the fly if you really want, but I think that would be on s4gru.com somewhere.
