What is the rom with best performance? I tried a lot of roms and they were a little bit laggy

Easy rooting instructions
I want to install KatKiss rom on my TF101 and was looking for instruction guide for dummies.
For example, how do I "go to recovery"?
And do I download the softwares to my computer or tablet?
Thanks in advance for the help.

Could you elaborate? Have you tried several others ROMs?
I'm currently on Katkiss 5.1 and it just feels a bit clunky (although I have great respect for the amount of work gone into developing and supporting 5.1). I just want something that is smooth for basic browsing, newsfeeds and ebooks. I don't play games on this. So, yes, I might take your suggestion and try 4.4.

I've been running KatKiss for years, I was running the ROM that evolved into KatKiss before that
Read some threads, you'll see how long I've been running them, and how many I've tested
And yes, the reason I suggested 4.4.4 is because the TF101 can't handle anything higher and remain smooth
The ROM I linked to is by far the fastest and most stable you will ever see your TF101 running, period.

Is even faster than the CM9?
Thank you
Why not just flash a few and test, it would be quicker than making posts and waiting days for an answer...
I concur that katkiss 4.4.4 is the most smooth and stable ROM there is for TF101. Except new Google Now crashing constantly, I just uninstall latest Google update. Lolipop is very unoptimized and just runs poorly on the aging device. Will have to see if MM gets better if we ever get one.
I have spent days trying to root my asus tf101.. last night I was working until 3am with no luck. Some of the instructions are so simple its a joke. others are just outdated from 2012/13 when you could still access the app store with this device. I have reached my limitations but will keep trying until it is bricked or smashed. It seems no one actually knows how to definitivly unlock this device?
Thank God I found a little comment on youtube about watching the device manager when you acxtually switch into APX. made all the difference, such a little instruction was the difference between zero and hero. I have used linux for years but kno nothing of apx and flashing roms. this makes bios flashing so simple. AHHHH
Now I know when it is in apx i can attempt to do something? fingers crossed

No need for video. Just install king root then install CWM from play store then flash with any TWRP and your ready to go.
Hello Rave4d
why install CWM and TWRP both ?
From guides I red :
1) ROOT
2) TWRP
3) KATKISS
I didn't read nothing about CWM!
thanks
Wrong place to ask for help but I will give a few hints to make things easier. Use APX mode with Easy Flasher on a windows 7 computer. Make sure you are NOT using a zip file within a zip file and read all of the information avalible. The TF 101 may be old but it is greatly documented and simple to flash. Damn near unbrickable.

I just got my g tablet.
I want to root the device and later install a rom I was thinking on robeet`s tntlite
My question is, do I have to install first the 4.2.0. and later the 4.2.5 supplement?
Do I have to root it to attempt rom trials or can be done without rooting? anyway i was thinking to use z4 root.
any advice?
Thanx in advance Im absolutely new to android but Im an ios developer.
Would post a link if I had my tab with me but if you look in the development section there is a thread telling you exact steps to do what you want to. It has all the links for downloads you will need.
Oh this method involves mounting and unmounting partitions instead of using a rooting tool. Its worth doing this way. I felt it taught me more about my device. Good luck and have fun!

Thank you for replying, I was following this article:
How to unleash the power of your g tablet from android police( I cant post links yet)
I will search for the thread you are mentioning but if you can later please post it here I would really appreciate your help.
I recommend this thread...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=865245
HOWEVER... read about the available ROMS first. Check out the features and the caveats. See if Flash is already installed so you can skip a step in that instruction guide. Etc... Etc...
Most importantly... have fun and let us know how it goes ;-)
Edit: FYI... The current crop of custom ROM's come pre-rooted for your convenience. It's no longer a requirement to root the device first.
Thanx a lot bro, you helped me a lot with your reply, I will attempt all this at home since my office is 100% mac.
btw is this g tablet mac compatible? lol sorry for the noob questions
Quetions are good. They allow us to help and learn from each other.
Mac Compatible... Oh, yes. I'm typing this from my MacBook Pro which has a VirtualBox session running linux when necessary for nvflashing ;-) Your gTablet's internal memory can be mounted on your Mac desktop via USB or it can be shared via FTP or AFP using a few free apps from the market. Best of all worlds in my opinion.
Yep that's the thread I was thinking about. Glad someone found you the link.
Exactly what was said before, don't forget to have fun and let us know how it went for you and what rom you decided on.

As already referenced, this was the thread that I used, for my first upgrade.
I would recommend loading CWM as well, to redo your partitions to 2,0
Out of curiousity:
Did your new tablet boot up to a welcome screen with setup questions & an end user agreement or did it present you with a home screen ?
Thanx guys, Yap at the end I decided to went with tntlite 4.2.5
LGcubana
My gtab presented me with a home screen and since the beginning crash after crash! so dissapointing... inmediately picked up a new update and everything went smoothly after that, flash running, angry birds from factory presets and so on but I still wanted to moded the tab so that´s what I did.
Btw any of you guys know of a barscan app for the gtab so i can download apps faster from sites like appaware? I don´t know why but the android marketplace is not letting me install that app. Compatibility perhaps?
Hi all,
I just picked up my Infinity off Craigslist the other day. I know, a little late but I have been lusting after one for quite a while but just couldn't justify the price tag. I finally found one in Amethyst gray 64mb model with keyboard dock and some other goodies for a price that I could afford so I picked it up. I have been reading the forum for a while so I was aware of what to look for and, although it does have a little bit of a loose screen, i really don't feel that bad about it for the price.
I am not new to Android so I have already unlocked and rooted it using the Asus unlock tool and motochopper. I read through all of the "All in one" posts and that lead me to install CROMI-X 4.6.9 although I was still a bit confused about which ROM to install. Is CROMI-X the new version or is it ClearROM Inheritance? The ROM I installed definitely seems a lot more snappy than the stock ROM and the device seems to be working very well.
If anyone could help me with some of the generic questions I have below I would greatly appreciate it.
Which ROM is the current favorite?
Is Data2SD really necessary?
If I move to Data2SD, can I do anything with the 64MB or does this essentially become not used?
Should I install a separate kernel than the one with the ROM? If so, Is this done through the TWRP utility just like a ROM?
One more thing, DEODEX'ed or ODEX? Do they run differently or is it just a developer thing?
I know that the activity around this device has wained but if there is one of you experts out there that wouldn't mind answering another Newbie's questions I would appreciate it.
Thanks again for the great forum and all the effort you all put into it.

CROMI (CleanROM Inheritance) roms were based on JB 4.1. CROMi-X (CleanROM Inheritance-Xenogenesis - don''t ask) is based on JB 4.2. The CROMI roms are no longer under development - officially retired so to speak.
1: Mine? CROMiX - nothing like it!
But that really is a matter of taste and what you crave. The CM ROMs have more customization options, the CleanROMs are designed to stay close to stock which has the advantage that they use Asus' drivers for all the hardware, which in general means: fewer conflicts and a smoother experience.
2. Most of those using Data2SD seem to report that any improvements in speed are negligible, if existent at all since about CROMiX 4.5.
If you really like to tinker and solve all kinds of problems - go ahead and try it. I have not used it myself. Seems to create more problems than it solves...
3. I think you had the choice between 3 different kernels in the Aroma installer already: _thatV3, the data2sd _that kernel and sbdags stock kernel.
If you quickly want to switch these you can just reflash the rom or: Check, I think it's post 2 or 3 of the CromiX thread. sbdags has a kernel installer which allows you to quickly change kernels without re-flashing.
Other than that Max's and Hund's kernels are popular - look for them in the Development section. And those you would flash through TWRP.
4. ODEX/DEODEX? Do you prefer vanilla or chocolate? ODEX may be just a tad stabler and faster, but that's a matter of opinion.
Hint: about 1/2 inch above the download link for CROMiX 4.6.8 is a link with an in depth discussion on exactly this question.
I can't really say that the activity around this device has "wained". sbdags keeps us pretty busy flashing! :cyclops:
I almost groan when he releases yet another incarnation. Until I flashed it - then I dance and sing. You think he can't make CROMi-X any better each time! And then he does....

1. Chromi-X (majority of TF700 users are on this rom, however it's up to you to decide among other great roms)
2. IMO it doesn't make such a great differences on the speed of the tablet, maybe a little. I have tried it and i find it a little pointless. What it does is that it gives you a higher score on Quadrant - it's an app that evaluate the score of your tablet. With or without, it doesn't make much difference on the user experience.
3. Yes, you should if you want the latest kernel. You can flash the rom without the kernel and it will not make any changes to your kernel. I suggest you try Max kernel.
4. ODEX if you're normal user like me.
Odexed CROMI-X 4.6.9 (i.e., 4.6.8 plus the 4.6.9 system patch), no data2sd (finicky and error-prone setup with marginal profits at best; I've used it for a while, and the only tangible benefit is apps installing a few seconds faster).
And welcome to the club!
PS (/EDIT): ODEXed because it installs faster (readu p on the difference here: http://www.redmondpie.com/odexed-vs-deodexed-the-difference-between-the-two-android-roms-explained/ or search for _that's Debunking Tonight feature on the forum. ). You'd only want DEODEXed if you're going to theme it yourself. If you want to theme the ODEXed version, look at pjc21's work -- it's great!
A big thanks to all. I can't believe how quickly my Q's were answered. It looks like I am in pretty good shape with the exception of using a different kernel if I would like. I am all about having a stable machine and just using it so I may be there already but I am also a tinkerer. Since I now have the ability to do Nandroid backups I am basically able to find a good setup and not worry about getting back to it. That was why I knew I needed to be unlocked. Any other input is very welcome and I am glad to be part of this group.
Thanks again
Jeff
Where do I find the Max kernel? I have looked all over and can't even find many references to it.
Thanks

I just tried to flash the V4 RC1 zip in TWRP and it failed. I was able to find the V3 kernel though in the CORMI-X post and it flashed fine. Am I doing something wrong? should I go to V4?

Have you checked the MD5 checksum? (I use Hashtab for checking, really convenient: http://www.implbits.com/HashTab/HashTabWindows.aspx#) The download may have been corrupted. You could disable signature checking (temporarily), but please only do that when you are absolutely sure that the file is healthy!
I haven't used MaxKernel myself, but judging from the changelog it might be best to get v4 on there -- I see optimizations in code, sio being re-added... Having said that, I'm on the new _that v3 and I love it. Overclockability is nice and all, but when it is unstable (judging from the thread and some earlier comments in the forums, I would not deem that kernel stable to my standards).
Hi guys,
I'm not total noob to rooting and custom ROMS as I've been dabbling for about 18 months with my S2 which runs Neatrom Superlite, but I can't for the life of me find instruction I can understand for installing a custom ROM on my Memo Pad HD7.
The rooting was very simple with Framaroot, but it seems the custom ROM is really complicated, the only instructions I've found are on here, the thread is -
[RECOVERY] [ROMs] ASUS Memo Pad HD 7 (me173x) [MULTILANG]
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2503668[/url]
I've tried following the instructions and followed links and downloaded ROMs and drivers but have got lost!
Many thanks for any help,
Alan.
Did you suceed?
If not, maybe I can be of some help.
I just finished installing a rom using that method.
Your right, the instructions are not clear.

The instructions are very well documented and with pictures.
You only need to unlock bootloader+special memory format one time.
After that just use CWM to flash any rom, backup, etc.
I closed the project due to the lack of respect, and use of my work without my permission, and i warned several times.
Good Luck

I am a little newbie here so please try to not destroy me
I have TF700T and i have a problems with performance. Laggy webbrowser etc. I am using tablet only for read comicbooks, sometimes movies and webbrowsing.
I am looking for new fimware and i will glad about performance of roms.
I need suggestion about stable version. Right now of course i have official branded Asus jellybeam.
Like i said i want to choose a bestone version of OS I read also about dualboot (with ubuntu) if someone can tell something about that the i will be glad
(Sorry for my english)

You are quite late to the game my friend. There is only one developer left who has not given up on this tablet and I would recommend you choose any of his roms. That's timduru and his roms are under the KatKiss brand. The only one he is still actively developing is Nougatella, his Android 7.x version for the Transformer. And it's a beauty. But his Katshmallow or KatKiss LP roms are very good too. But look at those as finished projects - no further updates.
If you are a traditionalist and want to stick with Asus software go for CROMi-X Resurrected, a little project a friend of mine and I whipped up. But it's asleep again. The project I mean
You'll find all of them in the Development section of this forum.
And the rest you need is right here in General: Look at the very top of the page, first sticky, to prep your tablet for a custom recovery and rom.
And then you need to format data and convert /data to f2fs and that is covered in a thread aptly named "Convert data to f2fs with TWRP..." - a little further down the page.
Read the first post of those threads, the OP, until you dream about it and then read the OP of the rom thread you decide to flash for the specific instructions on what you need to flash that rom.
Dual boot Ubuntu?? You are on your own on that one and you better generate your nvflash blobs if you want to mess with it....

There. I just saved you about a weeks worth of research. Now it's up to you to do the reading. :cyclops:

Maybe i am not that quite of newbie I root already that asus (downgrade , and root next). The most important think about that TF700T is not about how it's look but how it works After all , all my Ms OS is on classical themes ( i dont like waste a memory for that).
Thats why i can't decide choose between Cromi and Nougatella
What you would choose ?

What?? I wrote that whole post for nothing??? You are just pretending to be a newbie???
What a disappointment!!!
And you're asking what is the better rom? Now that's a newbie question alright....
The best rom is whatever rocks YOUR boat, man! That's like asking what the best salad dressing is.....
That's why nandroids were invented!
Flash either rom, do a basic setup, shoot a nandroid.
Format data, flash the other rom, basic setup, shoot a nandroid.
Switch between the 2 by restoring the nandroid.
Just make sure files systems match on both roms...

Yes, I can. Go ahead and install KatKiss - Nougatella #033. First of all you need Kang TWRP. To avoid any issues get your device back on the latest Asus firmware 4.2 (10.6.1.27.5).
After that follow exactly the install instructions in post #1 of the below thread.
PS:
As far as I can remember one year ago you have been on this thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/transformer-tf300t/development/rom-t3453702 with the intention to do it. You got many advices on your questions from several users. But it seems you didn't.
