Hi guys,
I'm not total noob to rooting and custom ROMS as I've been dabbling for about 18 months with my S2 which runs Neatrom Superlite, but I can't for the life of me find instruction I can understand for installing a custom ROM on my Memo Pad HD7.
The rooting was very simple with Framaroot, but it seems the custom ROM is really complicated, the only instructions I've found are on here, the thread is -
[RECOVERY] [ROMs] ASUS Memo Pad HD 7 (me173x) [MULTILANG]
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2503668[/url]
I've tried following the instructions and followed links and downloaded ROMs and drivers but have got lost!
Many thanks for any help,
Alan.
Did you suceed?
If not, maybe I can be of some help.
I just finished installing a rom using that method.
Your right, the instructions are not clear.

No I didn't, I gave up, but I'm about to try again as this stock OS is so sluggish I've started avoiding using it as my S2 and laptop are much better, so any help would be welcome.

The instructions are very well documented and with pictures.
You only need to unlock bootloader+special memory format one time.
After that just use CWM to flash any rom, backup, etc.
I closed the project due to the lack of respect, and use of my work without my permission, and i warned several times.
Good Luck

Check this link out. If you already on JB the latest version, then you just skip section 1 and start with section 2.

We're all on the wrong track here: the OP said the guide was too simple already -- we therefore should set ourselves to the task of making more complicated. Knowing both myself and the rest of you, this should come rather naturally, so what's taking you so long? MAKE IT HARD ALREADY!
J/K -- read the stickies. In my opinion, if you can't do it with all the info provided --which is more than enough --then read and learn a LOT more on the basics of Android before you even attempt this (suggested topic would include at least recoveries, bootloaders, nandroid backups, and, obviously, rooting). You run a significant chance to end up with an expensive paperweight if you don't. If you do not feel comfortable yet, play around with your 700 for a bit, try rooting next (little harm done, little risk involved) and then move on to the heavier stuff.
I thought I was somewhat tech savvy ... not troo however!
In order to flash a ROM which comes as second nature to most Androidians I was at a total loss initially.
Yet with concentration, YouTube, XDA, Google Play and a slowdown of tipping the wineglass I was able to crawl from the sandpit.
This has all lead to a new mountain to climb.
There's a few things I find tough like fastboot for instance and that pesky Titanium Fup , yet I'll absorb those eventually.
Dealing with Android and it's many options has definitely been a reading experience.
Good luck to all who dive in!
No doubt noobwow is struggling to find his thread now since it has been moved. :silly:

I found my post!
I just had problem on the "pre-requise" in the installation guide
I have already had JB on my TF700 and I knew I can just start from session 2
but I would appreciate if someone can teach me how to unlock and get the custom recovery
I know unlock tool can be downloaded from ASUS website
But what bother me is the custom recovery

go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1795156 to download the unlock apk tool (use second link). Launch the app and just follow the on screen direction, that's it. NOTE: currently Asus is having issue with their server, so the tool will failed. You just keep trying until it works. Once your device is unlock just follow the link and continue with section 2. Remember, after you install custom recovery (TWRP), you just boot into recovery and flash the Cleanrom. Cleanrom already rooted so you don't have to root your device.
Heck if did the ROM flash I'm pretty sure most anyone could figure out how to do it.
Linux\Android is a whole different animal to me so I've been studying...even bought a book about it

That would've been very sound advice about two to three weeks ago.
Hi everyone,
I've been slowly easing myself into the world of TF700 mods. I've been reading up A LOT on how to root, unlock, flash custom ROMs, etc. So far, I've started out by simply rooting my TF700. I figure this is a good way to get a feel for all this stuff without taking too much of a risk. After rooting, I updated to the latest JB via OTA, while keeping root (using OTA Rootkeeper).
But as I get more and more comfortable, I'm wanting more and more to get into flashing of custom ROMs. My understanding is that the bootloader needs to be unlocked to do this. The problem is, after scouring the internet, I've been unable to figure out how to unlock my tablet while on JB. Can anyone point me to an explanation of how to do this? Or will I HAVE to revert to ICS in order to do this (as I had to in order to root my JB device in the first place)?
Thanks a lot!
You have to use a different search engine, my friend!
The answers to your questions are right in this forum, and the relevant threads are at the top in this General section as stickies
Check out the Official Asus TF700 all-in-one thread by Pretoriano80 and also his index of tools (you'll need those later).
While you're at it start reading the CleanRom Inheritance Help thread by Thibor69 and in general: start browsing here, get familiar with the lingo, use the search function if you're interested in a particular topic (although - I have to admit the forum search engine su..., ahem - could be better. Using Google search and selecting the xda threads showing there is what I usually do).
Well, and then, if you really, really have searched high and low, far and wide, and cannot find the answer to your question, there are many, many very knowledgeable people here just dying to help you out
Welcome to the club...
Oh! And to answer your question: You have to use the Asus Unlock tool, you can use it in JB, no reason to revert to ICS.
If you successfully rooted you won't find the process to unlock, install a custom recovery and flash a custom rom too challenging.
Loosing the warranty sucks, yes. But only a custom rom will unlock the full potential of this tablet.

Thanks very much for the suggestions. I've definitely read the all-in-one thread ad noseum (which is how I figured out how to root my device). The thing that I was not able to find an answer to anywhere was whether the Asus unlock tool would work on JB. In fact, all the notices I came across indicated that it would only work with ICS. This is why I was confused as to how people on JB could still unlock their TF700 without reverting to ICS.
So you're saying that, while rooted and on JB (10.4.4.25), the standard Asus TF700 unlock tool will work? Is this generally accepted?
Also, thanks for the suggestion to check out the CleanRom Inheritance Help thread - this will probably be my next in the education process.
Thanks again... really appreciate it!

Yes, the ASUS provided unlock tool from their own very website will work!
I myself just used in on Saturday. I just rooted my Infinity last week with a great success using the CROMI and I love it!
Follow those instructions to the letter. However, I did find that the same software that is used in the youtube video was a bit easier to understand and navigate through. I'm a visual person, so I was doing it step by step with the video. I didn't want to brick a 2 month old device.
Good luck!
Okay. Interesting that Asus have not updated their instructions to indicate that the unlock tool also works for JB - the instructions on the Asus website clearly state that it only work on ICS.
Splitz: Sorry to belabour the subject, but did you unlock your TF700T while it had JB installed on it?
Has Asus just not updated their instructions?
Thanks!

Yes, I unlocked it using the Asus tool with JB installed.
I saw a post around here somewhere (In the DEV thread) that confirmed the tool works with both ICS bootloader as well as JB which is why I risked it.
I'm going to assume that ASUS just won't officially say it will unlock the JB bootloader.
Actually, it has been mentioned quite a few times that the unlock tool works on JB as well.

So can I unlock...and then root easily under JB?
So, I was intending to root my precious TF700, exactly when the warranty expires...As for it, I was keping my TF700 on ICS, but two days before the warranty expiration, my cat upgraded my device to JB...(seriously, my cat did that...She slept over the dock and go fgure how, authorized the upgrade...)
Now...well I don't mind JB, I'm actually liking it a lot, but I still want to root (to install Titanium Backup). I just don't want to downgrade...
If I use the Asus Unlock Tool (as said that works under JB) and then use the method listed in the All-In-One Guide (that links for this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1929712), it will work and we will be ok, me & TF700?

Samsung and Asus are completely different beasts. Forget everything you know so far about flashing and you'll probably be OK.
Do you have TWRP on the device - if not hop over to the dev forum and get yourself TWRP installed and then you can flash any stock Asus or other rom. Recommend you try CROMi-X first

Good morning everybody!
I'm sorry if i'm posting a similar thread but i didn't find the answers i needed. I explain:
i have an Asus TF700T in 4.2.1 with a bootloader - 10.6.1.14.10 (update that i shouldn't make unfortunately ) and i noticed that it´s laggy. I bought it for gaming because of its graphic card but all games i installed are also laggy.
I tried to deactivate some apps i didn't want and there was no difference.
I read in some posts that "CROMI" is what i must install. My problem is the bootloader.
What to do?
Thanks in advance.

Could you elaborate? Have you tried several others ROMs?
I'm currently on Katkiss 5.1 and it just feels a bit clunky (although I have great respect for the amount of work gone into developing and supporting 5.1). I just want something that is smooth for basic browsing, newsfeeds and ebooks. I don't play games on this. So, yes, I might take your suggestion and try 4.4.

I've been running KatKiss for years, I was running the ROM that evolved into KatKiss before that
Read some threads, you'll see how long I've been running them, and how many I've tested
And yes, the reason I suggested 4.4.4 is because the TF101 can't handle anything higher and remain smooth
The ROM I linked to is by far the fastest and most stable you will ever see your TF101 running, period.

Why not just flash a few and test, it would be quicker than making posts and waiting days for an answer...
I concur that katkiss 4.4.4 is the most smooth and stable ROM there is for TF101. Except new Google Now crashing constantly, I just uninstall latest Google update. Lolipop is very unoptimized and just runs poorly on the aging device. Will have to see if MM gets better if we ever get one.
I have spent days trying to root my asus tf101.. last night I was working until 3am with no luck. Some of the instructions are so simple its a joke. others are just outdated from 2012/13 when you could still access the app store with this device. I have reached my limitations but will keep trying until it is bricked or smashed. It seems no one actually knows how to definitivly unlock this device?
Thank God I found a little comment on youtube about watching the device manager when you acxtually switch into APX. made all the difference, such a little instruction was the difference between zero and hero. I have used linux for years but kno nothing of apx and flashing roms. this makes bios flashing so simple. AHHHH

Wrong place to ask for help but I will give a few hints to make things easier. Use APX mode with Easy Flasher on a windows 7 computer. Make sure you are NOT using a zip file within a zip file and read all of the information avalible. The TF 101 may be old but it is greatly documented and simple to flash. Damn near unbrickable.
