Hey all. Currently I have the Note 3. I am looking to upgrade and am strongly considering the LG V10 since its kept the removable battery, sd storage, and very good specs. Do you guys think there will be a root available for it in the near future? Thanks
If you have T-Mobile there already is root

Wouldn't hold your breath for AT&T or VZW
Did they do something to prevent root injection like on the G4?
You might have a long wait.
I was on ATT with the Note 4 and it only has temporary root after more than a year.
You might be better off buying the TMO version and running it on ATT network.

tmo v10 doesn't have reception for
LTE 1 / 2 / 3 / 4 / 5 / 7 / 12 / 17 / 29 / 30
which i guess is like a workhorse band for at&t.. people with tmo aren't getting good signal of LTE on at&t network which sucks.

From T-Mobile's site it has LTE: 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 12, 20
Not saying you don't still get bad LTE with a T-Mobile on ATT but not as many missing bands.

If you take a look around and do some research, and not get so fixated on what you think is correct based on what the device is 'showing' you. You might find that things are different than you are assuming.
The AT&T, Verizon variants of the V10, are fully locked down. That "option" is shown on the AT&T but doesn't do anything.
If you read the other threads, you will find this out for yourself

I just bought my AT&T H900 and was looking into rooting to (1) remove unwanted apps and (2) using Titanium Backup (back up apps) and Nandroid Backup (general backup).
As rooting is not currently an option due to bootloader being fully locked down, are there ways for me to remove apps and backup?

You can go into Settings/Apps, and Disable the ones you don't want to run and won't even be visible. I don't recommend uninstalling any (even if you can) this could break OTA updates. You can always re-enable them if you go a little crazy and break something, or want to OTA Update the device
Titanium and Nandroid both require Root, and I believe Nandroid requires an unlocked bootloader. So until the magic happens, you can't use either of those methods of backup.
For me, since there are currently no ROM's to install. I don't have a need to create any backups of my apps that are installed, and the same goes for the need for any Nandroid (even more so)
I believe you can, however do a complete system backup/restore using ADB. There are complications to using ABD, it's not NEAR as easy as booting to CWM and doing a couple clicks/done
You could take a look at an app called Helium. It's for app backup, I don't use it so I can't give any 1st hand experience

Had no idea that uninstalling apps could break OTA updates...that could be the reason why my T999L never had any updates available after Android 4.4.4.
Working currently on installing Android Studio so I'll have ADB then. I'm a novice when it comes to dealing with technology on this level so if you could direct me to somewhere where I can find out (or tell me) how to do an ADB backup that'd be super!
Thanks so much for all the info!!!!! PS: Now I'm second guessing the thought of rooting my Nexus 7 (2013)

Yeah, the OTA update looks for key specific "stock" things, if the device fails to meet them, the update fails. I think a lot of the carrier bloatware is checked

I haven't used ADB in a LONG time so, I wont be any help to you there. Google could though
There are a lot of options out there now that with a little research, provide SOME options, that you can get by without Root. Although they may not be as good as having Root, AdAway is a great example for me at least.
Good luck with ADB and making your system back up

Introducing... SuperPatch!
This package is for users of AT&T bootloader locked / S-ON users who would like to switch ROM. Running this package will convert your device to what is effectively the Asia ROM!
In order to use SuperPatch you should first have rooted your device.
To install...
Download the zip file below
Extract it to your Windows / Mac / Linux machine
CHECK THERE IS ENOUGH ROOM ON YOUR /DATA PARTITION FOR THE LARGE TAR FILE (~650MB)
From a command / shell window, run the appropriate install script (install-windows.bat, install-mac.sh or install-linux.sh).
This will then launch the installer - this includes pushing a large file to your device which takes a while, so be patient!
Note that should anything go wrong, you will need to reflash your device from bootloader using a RUU on Windows, so bear this in mind... you flash at your own risk!
A wipe is recommended after installation. You may then be prompted in Chinese, just hit the button until you get to language selection when you can switch to English.
r1 SuperPatch Asia 1.77.708.2 - DOWNLOAD - MD5: 77305d7eedc98d4fe366fb996ee1c70b
Note that altho flashing this triggers the 'tampered' indicator on the bootloader, flashing back with the RUU removes it again and returns to a completely stock state.
THIS IS CURRENTLY IN TESTING! If you use it, be ready to flash to stock using a RUU... i'm still refining the script!
Enjoy!

PS Details on how to donate should you wish to do so are in the download topic at MoDaCo.

As a previous AT&T galaxy s user who would ALWAYS flash europe firmware onto the phone with us modem/kernel, I am DEEPLY interested. This doesn't change the fact for locked bootloader?
Bootloader is still locked of course, but i'm not happily running the generic ROM from this post.
No AT&T crap (a couple of easily deleted chinese apps). No AT&T customisations (stupid network indicator, 4G icons). No tethering restrictions. No removed software (radio, friendstream etc.). Awesome.
I'm doing a MCR custom ROM based on it too which is even better.

Awesome work Paul. Might I suggest to make a FAQ in your first or second post. AT&T users can be a little... dense, and you're going to be getting all kinds of redundant questions like "can I flash this" and "will this disable my LTE or APN settings" and "will my radio be changed". You might save yourself a lot of reading. Just a suggestion.

CAUTION with 5.1.1 UpdateG925PVPU2B0F7I've been spending some time reading T-mobiles issues with the update. This isn't a super new conversation, but is probably new to many Sprint users. The update appears have rollback protection, which effects both kernel and bootloader from what they are saying... Which I find slightly confusing since I didn't think that their was a locked bootloader on the US versions (maybe someone can assist with that)
Figured we could start the conversation early for Custom Root/Recovery/etc. users, so that we may save some of us some trouble with Soft/Hard brinks in the next week or so.
This is the thread I've been looking at.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-galaxy-s6-edge/general/psa-odin-5-1-1-t3136151
EDIT:
NO, the bootloader is not locked with the 5.1.1 update.
Rather, "Factory Reset Protection" (an Android thing - not a Samsung thing!) is now an option, which allows you to lock the bootloader yourself, protecting your device from someone installing a custom recovery, wiping your device and making it their own. It makes the device somewhat less valuable, and therefore (supposedly) less likely to be stolen.
The 5.1.1 upgrade looks to be a "permanent" upgrade, meaning we're not able to revert back to 5.0.2 kernels and recoveries.
So, I would suggest to sit tight with your current set up. In order to customize our devices we will need to wait for:
A) Root for 5.1.1
-Root has been achived: http://forum.xda-developers.com/spr...elopment/5-1-1-stock-of7-kernel-root-t3153396
B) Samsung to post the source code for the new kernel.
C) Custom Recovery
-Recovery has been achived:
Once we have the above, we can get back to modding our devices.
If I'm wrong, someone please correct me.
Interesting article, I remember several other older Samsung devices where you could not downgrade bootloaders and modems. IE Galaxy S3, note 3, s5. But there was still root, Roms and the ability to flash kernels. Hopefully there's no need to go back anyway. The kernel thing is something new so I may hold off on upgrading. Thanks for the info

This is my first Samsung, so the whole root recovery process was almost too smooth since I've been on the HTC side for 5 years. Unlocking bootloaders, S-off and requesting tokens to push.. Ugh, as must as I likes HTC and Sense, that sucked.
I think I'm holding off as well, untill Sac23/ Ram9200 might have spare time to look over the update first and make sense of it all and could at least get it to where V.2 is right now. But it sounds like the Kernel could be our hold up, without Hybridmax's current support.

Yea but based off of my years of experience and having Samsung devices, I'm pretty sure that someone will find a way moving forward, but going back probably won't happen. Sent from my VS987 using Tapatalk
My understanding, not as a programmer by any means...is that the phone needs to have an unlocked bootloader prior to even having the ability to gain root. If the service provider (Verizon) doesn't unlock this, root cannot happen in a traditional sense. Carriers such as T-Mobile have a root for this phone as they come with unlocked bootloaders. You wont see root on the Verizon variant.

no there isnt hope unless u figure it out the "experts" have tried time and time again
the bootloaders arent locked they are signed with a very special key that would take ever computer together in the worl roughly 200000 years plus to brute force into. verizon and att are the worst
now you all know. as said before if u wanted to root you should have studied before buying a "locked" device
if u want root either get a rootable device or figure it out on your own
as with the g4 there will more than likely never be root for these "locked" devices
not being an ass just the cold hard truth

they cant unlock the bootloader or it would have been done
lgs verity key prevents this through qfused motherboards highly encrypted partitions that the bootloader verifys and if one thing is off bam lg secure boot error.
which again is basicly hardcoded into the device.
no one is going to waste their time trying a 99.9% impossible feat
The phone is just not popular enough the Verizon Galaxy S7 I believe is unlocked for the bootloader. If the phone is popular enough a developer will work on it.

You need to be on marshmallow or have anti-rollback to be 0 which <1% of ppl have. Also, it's not a complete root, so although you have root permissions, it's unstable and you have no root manager (SuperSU/Magisk/etc.)

Hi,
As I noticed right after installing Oreo, there is no Dolby settings. I assume that this is a matter of license and certification Dolby for Oreo.
But I checked the system and this is what I found:

So as I thought it's about Dolby certification.

Do you use Oreo? I don't pay attention to that tbh
It was like that for me also on Nougat - checked some screenshoot. Now I'm using Substratum and you can change it, but for me it's by default.
I didn't rooted my phone yet cause m using it fine in my way, and yes i m using oreo, but still everyone's has 4g and your is LTE...
Its so hurting :crying:

How do you know everyone? I see you have Dual SIM - try it with single card, I don't know, maybe it changes something. Second thing may be network carrier, for me it's T-Mobile. Look this thread.
BTW, I don't have root. Substratum with Andromeda works rootless.
↓ PM
Can u share the link i also want to use it

the 4G/LTE this is probably because the phones that were purchased in USA (like mine, TA-1025) will get LTE because in the US they usually brand their networks as LTE and 4G is not really a commonly used term.
but anyway, when I was on nougat I used to get mostly 4G (lte only sometimes, but rarely) now I only get LTE.

I got it, this depends on the carrier we use in our region so its fine, lator when some custom rom will be available then i iwll manage that via root..
Maybe they'll add this at release of Oreo?

Man, we live in a world of technology, before making any security, people make a unlocking way to get rid during any problem with security
If TA-1000 and TA-1003 can be flashed with mena firmware then there is still hope available to get our phone unlocked
Dont worry just be calm and relax...you, me or someone will surely make a way to get our device unlocked...
Till stay happy and enjoy what you have

You obviously didnt bother reading up. Some devices are locked and have never been unlocked. Not everything is possible. Having compiled roms myself i am more than aware of security flaws. SOME however have never been exploited. Google has some of the best Devs in the wold. As well as the help of the Android community aiding in making secure device. I suggest you read up on bootloaders. As well as the new security added under Nougat and Oreo. It may help you understand.

Thank you for your advice
I really appreciate it
Please can someone, upload all system/etc/mixer_paths.xml files from stock nougat rom, thanks in advance.
I personally have the U.S. variant of the Fold 2 and I've read that unlocking the bootloader doesn't seem to be an option. Or at least, it would take someone with more knowledge than I to figure out how to do so. But, are there any current workarounds or other methods that I'm missing? Someone showed me this in another thread:

However, it requires sending someone $150 and allowing them TeamViewer access to my computer. And something about all of that feels extra sketchy....
I was thinking, would it be possible to use Magisk Manager to root a boot.img file and then use Odin to then flash said boot.img? Maybe I'm missing something there, I'm personally not super experienced with Odin and Samsung phones. I've generally been on the Nexus/Pixel train for most phones and root isn't a huge issue. Any thoughts or ideas to achieve root would be much appreciated. I'm not looking for custom ROMs for this phone, but I've used Titanium Backup for years as well as a couple other root apps that would be nice to have use of still.

I dont have any experience with that service either, but what concerns the other possibilities they all depend on having the bootloader unlocked. You simple will not be able to flash anythint custom whatsoever with a locked BL.

That is a great question. I don't have a case for it yet and have been afraid to power it on to be honest haha. I guess I could definitely check that out and see if the normal method of doing things is available or not.
I've got the US unlocked version and there is no OEM unlock in developer.

Yeah I just powered up mine and checked as well. The option doesn't even show up in the developer settings. Normally it's grayed out but in this case, it's not even listed.
Just for additional info, I was able to boot into download mode as well as the bootloader and these were the screens I was presented with. I'm not sure if these are helpful or dangerous to post. If they're unwise to share, please lemme know and I'll delete them. I'm just trying to help and make progress.

You do not have OEM unlock; you're not going to get anywhere unless an exploit is discovered. I already knew that when I asked the question but I was trying to let you come to it on your own. You have a bootloader locked version of the phone, you will not root it by farting around with Magisk, going into download, etc.
The service does absolutely work.

The process involved me connecting the phone to my computer via download mode and then running some technician program on the computer that allows the person to control the device. Then a few minutes later the phone rebooted and the bootloader was unlocked. Very simple. Super awesome and from a VERY reliable and trustworthy person. I am more than satisfied. That's why I decided to actually post on here.

I'm intrigued by this. How much did the service cost? My Fold2 should be delivered to me tomorrow.
Edit: okay, i learned a bit more about this service. They put an individualized token on a steady partition on the device which allows bootloader unlock. It survives flashing new firmware and OTAs.
My Fold2 arrives tomorrow, i think i might go through with this service. I'll let you all know how it goes!

Please do report back! I've been hesitant on pulling the trigger myself but I would really like root access. I also appreciate the additional info on how it works.
I'm new to android and I just checked my fold 2 and I have the OEM unlocking feature available - and I can toggle it, its not whited out, does this mean I could root my phone?

To my understanding, if that option is there you should be able to toggle it on and then unlock the bootloader. Once that's done, you should effectively be home free to do whatever you please.
you will never root US Galaxy devices anymore. Even if you bought it as unlocked by Samsung.
Do not buy samsung if you looking for a root. Also generally root is dying

Interesting are custom roms and mods .... not only root.

I didn't own it now, perhaps in a few days. we will see. crazy expensive phone, but more than a phone
