So I've been away for a while and things have changed a bit with the accounts tab. It used to be in settings under account you could add all your email addresses and they would auto load to the email app. Well it seems thats not the case now. anyway I added all my accounts to the accounts tab, so it has my work email, my yahoo address, and the google account I used to sign in to the phone. Then I went into the native email app and added my yahoo and work emails. The gmail app auto loaded the gmail I have attached to the google account from logging into the phone, however I don't like the gmail app and wanted to use the native email app only. So I disabled the Gmail app in settings and went back to the native app. When I attempt to add the gmail email that is attached to the phones google account it tells me I have a user name and password issue. I have checked and rechecked and I know I'm typing it right and that the info being use is right. I'm not sure why this email won't add. any ideas???
Have you tried simply adding the account from the Mail app? Remove everything first if some stuff are already listed.

Cite from Google Play : Allowing less secure apps to access your account"
Allowing less secure apps to access your account
Google may block sign-in attempts from some apps or devices that do not use modern security standards. Since these apps and devices are easier to break into, blocking them helps keep your account safe.
Some examples of apps that do not support the latest security standards include:
The Mail app on your iPhone or iPad with iOS 6 or below
The Mail app on your Windows phone preceding the 8.1 release
Some Desktop mail clients like Microsoft Outlook and Mozilla Thunderbird
Change account access for less secure apps
To help keep Google Apps users' accounts secure, we may block less secure apps from accessing Google Apps accounts. As a Google Apps user, you will see a "Password incorrect" error when trying to sign in. If this is the case, you have two options:
Option 1: Upgrade to a more secure app that uses the most up to date security measures. All Google products, like Gmail, use the latest security measures.
Option 2: Change your settings to allow less secure apps to access your account. We don't recommend this option because it might make it easier for someone to break into your account. If you want to allow access anyway, follow these steps:
Go to the "Less secure apps" section in My Account.
Next to "Access for less secure apps," select Turn on. (Note to Google Apps users: This setting is hidden if your administrator has locked less secure app account access.)
If you still can't sign in to your account, the "password incorrect" error might be caused by a different reason.
It seems to be caused by Google Play Account Policy.
Would you try to low down your account security level or try to sign-in on different android device to check again?
Hope the information can help you.
That's interesting info. HTC Mail just had an update yesterday (or maybe the day before). If I were you I would try removing all mail accounts, clear data/cache for the mail app, uninstall update, reboot, install update, and try again.

This is probably a dumb question, but is there any possibility to give Eclair the ability to sync multiple Google Apps calendars? It is limited to calendars from only 1 Google Apps account, but from what I've read, that limitation was addressed in Froyo.
Thanks in advance.
Try sharing your Google calendars with your master account and give it full permissions.
Yeah, I know that there are some workarounds (like that one), but the non-main account is my business account and the calendar isn't shareable with accounts outside the company.
Edit: Thank you, though, for the response!
The one "workaround" I have in place is that I setup an "Email" account with my google credentials using m.google.com as the server, then set it to never push mail, just sync my calendar, it's a google apps account and it works.
Sorry if I am being dense, can you elaborate/clarify?
If I add any other account to the Accounts area of Settings via the Google option, it will not provide me with the ability to sync a calendar (because my primary is a Google Apps account). If I add my account via the Corporate option, it allows creation of the account, but the calendar doesn't show up in the Calendar app.
I use the Corporate email setting, using "username"@********.***, you can just as easily use a gmail address [email protected] as an example, once the settings appear for the domain\username, wipe out what's automatically placed there and instead enter [email protected] or whatever your FULL gmail/google apps email address you wish to use, enter your password and then for the Exchange Server enter m.google.com also make sure Use SSL is enabled. Once completed I uncheck syncing of contacts as I already have the same account set up in the GMail app, I set it ti NEVER push mail, no notifications, and to sync calendar, the span amount shouldn't matter. I have had no problem getting it to show up in my list of calendars and to sync accordingly.
That's great, it works! Sadly it doesn't bring in all of your calendars, just the "primary" calendar for that account... but that is a huge improvement over the normal situation.
Thanks a lot for that tip, really appreciated.
Well, I might just be too dumb to do this. But as I use my primary gmail account to activate the phone, and I still want all my email accounts (including this primary gmail) to be aggregated un the email app, now I end up with two entries to this gmail account.
I just feel uncomfortable to see the "gmail" app to stand alone with one gmail account. But since that's setup to activate the phone, there is no way I can remove the gmail account in there. The best thing I can do is to check off the sync options in there (mail, contacts, calendars) but sync from the other duplicated gmail account in the "email" app.
Fortunately they don't have any conflict so far. (I mean no duplicate contacts/calendars). But I still don't feel comfortable knowing the one in "gmail" app is still there... hibernating
I am wondering if any one has a better idea to... I am not sure... maybe "consolidate" the two gmail accounts? Actually all I want is to set all the email accounts in the "email" app. Is that that simple?
Can you just forward your secondary account to your primary GMail?

G2x in effect....

actually the two gmail account are both the same account.
#1 was set up in "gmail" app when activating the phone
#2 was manually setup in "email" app simply because I like to have all email accounts (together with other hotmail/yahoo/etc) to be aggregated under one single app
Probably I didn't state it clearly enought, hopefully this time it's better.
just turn off the sync like you said. It shouldn't cause any issues. If you are rooted, and know what you are doing, you could try to unistall the Gmail app...but I'm not sure what that would do to your G2x...I know on my HD2 (when I had it), it would run fine without the Gmail app. If you try that, be sure to have a backup first of the ROM.

All my e-mail in 1 place
I like to have all my e-mail in 1 tidy place, too. My G2x is rooted. Here's what I did:
1) Set up all my accounts, both Google and otherwise, in my e-mail client (MailDroid).
2) Shut off AutoSync on my google Gmail accounts.
3) Used Bloat Freezer to freeze the Gmail app.
I like Bloat Freezer but Titanium Backup can also freeze apps.

Just to make sure I get your correct. You click in setting-->acct&sync-->that gmail acct (in gmail app not email app). Then you check off all the 4 sync items (contacts, emails, picasaweb, calendar). That's correct?
Do you still leave the auto-sync on in the parent page (setting-->acct&sync)? I am wondering if I check off that, it will stop the email accounts in the email app syncing and pushing.
I turned auto sync off completely. You can sync Cal and Contacts manually by just tapping "Sync Contacts" on demand.
After I froze Gmail, Sync Email disappeared from the list of sync-able things.
I don't like Auto Sync because of the battery drain.
I just can't get the mail app to sync. So the live tile has never shown anything, and it is on. It just never syncs! I have to check mail from my phone or open the gmail in the desktop browser. This is bad as this is my only computer.

no, I just checked again. They are on.
Do you use any mail accounts other than Gmail? If so, and those aren't working either, then there's some other problem.
However, if it's just Gmail, you can think Google for that. They disabled adding new devices using Exchange ActiveSync connections to Gmail a few weeks ago. Feel free to write them a nasty-gram about it; it seems a pretty dickish move on their part IMO (note that existing connections still work, they just don't allow new ones). Not that they're obligated to provide any such service, but bull**** like this is why I don't rely on "cloud" services to any extent that I can help it; when you don't control the service, you are at the mercy of service provider's whims.
As a work-around, enable IMAP access in Gmail settings, and then manually add the IMAP/SMTP account to your Mail app on the tablet. That should work fine, but you'll lose a lot of the integration benefits; things like contacts and calendars and such will need to use different services instead of all going through EAS.

I have a yahoo account on it too. But that also doesn't work.
Have you tried syncing manually using the Mail app? Open the app, right-click or swipe from top or bottom, and select Sync. If it doesn't work, you should get an error message.
For what it's worth, my Surface RT happily syncs both my Gmail and Yahoo accounts, in addition to several others (my work account which is also over EAS but to an actual Exchange server, my old university account which is the same, and a personal IMAP account).

Yes, most of the time that works. I don't get an error message. But sometimes I know I have an email, because my phone will tell me. But I will hit sync like five times and I can't see any new emails.
started having the same problem
my mail app has also started having syncing issues... this is with both outlook and gmail!! it was working very well 3 days ago... does anyone have the same issues?!
I have the same problem. Mail stops auto syncing and live tile no longer works. Only way to fix it is to uninstall the app, reboot, reinstall and then it works again... for a while then stops syncing again =(

Read the end of this article - particularly if you are syncing gmail from other devices in addition to the Surface - as you will be hitting the gmail single POP access problem: http://woodygems.wordpress.com/2007/01/24/hello-world/
How can I remove my Gmail accounts form Google Chrome's other devices tab? Without removing gmail account from device. I want that because, anyone can sign in to my account without password and can explore my gmail and other google accounts.

Hi. I think that's not possible because the Gmail account is a device account. Unless you remove it completely from your device it will not disappear in Chrome.
I agree, you cannot do that. Go to Gmail and Help
Delete or restore a Google Account
Deleting your Google Account will affect all products associated with that account. For example, if you use Gmail with your account, you'll no longer be able to access that email. You'll also be unable to reuse your Gmail username. Before deleting your account, review the data and products associated with your account on the Google Dashboard.
Delete a Google Account
Sign in on the Google Accounts homepage. If you forgot your password, you can reset it.
Click Data tools at the top.
In the Data tools box, click Delete account and data. If you don't see this link near the bottom of the page, your account may have been created through an organization or company which requires different steps for deletion.
Confirm your account deletion. To do so, you'll need to select these two options:
"Yes, I want to delete my account."
"Yes, I acknowledge that I am still responsible for any charges incurred due to any pending financial transaction and I understand that under certain circumstances my earnings won't be paid out."
You can safely select the latter option if you haven't used any of Google's paid products, such as AdWords and Wallet, or if you have no pending financial transactions related to these products.
Restore a Google Account
Having a hard time recovering your account? If you use another email provider like Hotmail or Yahoo as the username for your Google Account, make sure you didn't create another Google Account using that same email address. Two accounts with the same username can't exist at the same time, so you'll need to change the username on the new account first.
If you accidentally deleted your Google Account, you have a short amount of time to try and recover it:
Go to our password assistance page.
Select "I don't know my password."
Follow the steps until you see a link to verify your identity.
Click the link to fill out our form.

Canceling your Gmail address
Note: Deleting your address won’t free up your username. Once you delete your Gmail address, you won’t be able to use that same username ([email protected]) in the future.
If you decide that you don't need your Gmail address anymore, here's how you can remove Gmail from your Google Account:
Sign in to your account at accounts.google.com.
At the top, click Data tools.
In the Data Tools box, click Delete products.
Click Remove Gmail permanently.
I can’t sign in
You need to be able to sign in in order to delete your Gmail address. Click here to recover access to your account.
I am using Gmail offline
If you use Gmail offline, you'll also need to delete cookies associated with Gmail offline to remove your account completely. In Google Chrome, follow these steps:
Type chrome://settings/cookies into your address bar and press Enter.
Search for mail.google.com.
Hover over the search results and click the X that appears.
I want to retrieve my deleted account
If you delete your Gmail address but wish to have it back, we work to help you recover your deleted accounts whenever possible. However, within a few weeks' time, accounts are usually no longer retrievable. Note that a successful recovery will only recover the username associated with the account.

Hi, this seems like a stupid question but I can't make sense of it..... old age! I have use a third party email app (on phones and tablets) for the last decade or so but it is antiquated and there are some things I really don't like. I thought I'd give Google's gMail app a try with a new tablet and I really like it except for 1x fatal flaw (dealbreaker), it forces conversation view for all gMail based accounts. I hate conversation view and regularly miss correspondence when it's on. There's a box in settings to turn it off but it does nothing if your email server is gMail.
I have read that it is possible to setup the gMail app to use IMAP to access my gMail server but I can't see any setting to do it. I am familiar with IMAP settings, etc. but the gMail app appears to just grab my Google credentials and automatically access my gMail account. Do I have to delete my entire Google account (not just account in gMail app) and then recreate it in order to set it up as IMAP?
