Hi folks.
I own a Samsung Gear 1 (SM-V700 running SW V700XXUCOA2 Which I'd like to connect to my S4 Active.
As this mobile runs on Spegelius 5.1.1 ROM from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...nt/rom-cyanogenmod-12-0-builds-i9295-t2947513
the Gear manager keeps on telling me the software had been altered in a non-authorized way. So my watch can't connect to the handset.
I am definetly NOT willing to revert back to stock, as that would render the handset useless due to permanent loss of service and random reboot.
Is there any workaround for this?
Yes, I've been browsing the forum, but no joy.
The Gear manager for non-samsung devices also refuses to start, throwing the same message as mentioned above.
Any help appreciated
Samsung is too proprietary like Apple. I think I am done with Samsung since they hosed my phone with a Knox update I was not expecting.

I am having issues on the titled ROM. I went on to my "Gear Manager" and it required an update, fair enough ok yes update. Now, whenever I try to access gear manager (after it appeared to successfully update) it just says
"Unable to connect to the Gear. Connecting to the gear is not supported by your mobile device or your software needs to be updated. Check that your mobile device is able to connect to the gear (which i need'nt say IS able to connect or WAS) then update your mobile device software".[/SIZE]
Can any please help, I love my gear so would really like to be able to use it.
Thanks in advance for your replies

All I can say is is that there's something missing from the ROM which is preventing the Gear Manager software from detecting the right information. The same thing happened once on one of the versions of Dynamic Kat. The developer fixed it almost right away, so I would start by asking the dev of the ROM you're using, and see if they are running into the same issue.
for those of you with watches already, are there any issues with custom roms/rooted phones?
I assume there are not, but just wanted to check
thanks!
I have a Nexus 6 with AICP (rooted, LP ROM based on CM source) mated to a regular S2 (not sport). I presume the watch software is the same as on a Sport. I had little or no trouble getting everything that should work to work. I say everything that should work because if you have a Samsung device with TW interface apparently there are more features. After installing everything (which was not hard at all, just installed Gear manager from the Play Store and followed the directions), I did have to do a light reset on the watch to get the notifications to show up.
Anyway, I am quite happy with the combination and the watch is doing everything I have asked it to do.
Hope that helps,
Fred
thanks Fred, I am on a nexus 6 currently running MM Chroma, but also run MM AOSIP, and MM Pure, so I too think that a sport will work just fine..Thing is, I am gonna grab a 3G version from TMO in a few days when they hit, so hopefully, the phone stuff works as seamlessly as the conventional " stuff" does.
So, the order of things should be setup the watch first, then install Gear manager, then do do a "light reset" on the watch? Whats a "light reset", like a reboot, or more like a wipe? And, do you have to install that Samsung Services app too, or just Gear manager?
I assume the 3G model might have a big of a different setup, so once TMobile gets an actual owners manual for the 3G Gear S2 up on their site, I will check it out.
Thanks again for the 411 :good::good:
I would install gear manager first, then crank the watch up. Don't select reactivation lock because if you want to trade the watch in for some reason you will have to remove it (I tried on a watch that the idiot did not remove and I am still angry).
Follow the instructions and yes you will have download the services app but so be it if it works.
The light reset is kind of like a factory data reset but I had to do it to get notifications to work. It was painless (say compared to unlocking the boot loader on your phone
I am linking mine more and more.
Cheers,
Fred
So I JUST received a refurbished Samsung S2 Gear from amazon and went to work trying to learn all how to use it.
well i downloaded all the apps and things necessary, but now im stuck because m the samsung gear app tells me that the phone needs a software update. It downloads fine on my phone, and then gets stuck at 0% on the copying stage. I have both the phone and watch charging, and i havent put anything new on the phone. pretty much out of the box. After it tries for a bit, a popup says that its" failed to copy the software update to the gear. Try Later"
Ive restarted the watch.. unfortunately i can not restart my phone due to the outside buttons no longer working. But still seems unnecessary.
Anyone have any ideas on what to do at this point?
I just bought one, too. I also have the same phone. Update worked fine for me...
As the title implies, my issue is slightly different from the others reported; I don't have issues with the BT connectivity (that I can tell). The watch and phone see and connect to each other. I have no tested this extensively, but I was receiving notifications on both devices just fine after setting it up.
My issue is specifically with Samsung Pay on the Gear. When I first selected the "Connect to a new device", and it went through the reset process, Pay was completely gone on the watch. Couldn't see it in apps, couldn't see it from the Samsung Gear app on my phone either. I thought that was peculiar, and couldn't find a remedy, so I reset the watch completely. After the reset, Pay was back, but the watch failed to finish the restore of my data. I reset it again. This time, Pay was back AND all of my data was restored without a hitch. I happened to already have the need to call my bank to authorize my debit card for Android/Samsung Pay on my S8+, and asked if the agent would stay on the line to ensure I can set up Pay on my watch as well. The nice gentleman agreed to, and after 15 minutes of rinse/repeat with holding the back button, the watch would do the following:
Display "Check your phone"
Display - and stay stuck - "Keep device connected"
Nothing happens. On either device. It's obviously trying to push an internet prompt to the phone, and it's not sending/receiving successfully
If anyone has any pro tips or experience with this, please chime in! And I don't want to seem rude, but in the interest of saving time, please assume I have at least a moderate understanding of device maintenance. Such that I power-cycled devices, reset, etc. The issue is consistent, and my underlying question here is whether or not it might have anything to do with my phone being the unlocked US model. Not International, but still unlocked.
I have the same issue as outlined in this thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/gear-s3/help/samsung-pay-gear-s3-unlocked-s8-t3620316
And in speaking with Samsung support, Samsung Pay only works with S3 paired with a carrier phone in the US, which is stupid.
Does Android Pay on the S8+ involved 'Samsung Pay Framework' in any way? I ask because I'm having problems with Android Pay that I think might have something to do with something I've disabled. Samsung Pay Framework is the only thing I see left that's a possible culprit. I disabled it because Samsung Pay isn't available in my country and I've tripped Knox so I'm not sure I'll be able to use it anyway.
The issue I'm having is strange. Today the phone did nothing while held against a terminal while the lock screen was turned on. When I unlocked the phone, opened the app and tried again, it vibrated and told me to try again. When I did, it succeeded. If it had continued to fail, I'd be way less confused.
I'm rooted with Magisk, but I pass SafetyNet with Core Only Mode on. Netflix etc. work fine.
Any help would be appreciated.
