anyone get a sport model with a nexus 6/ rooted/custom rom on their phone? - Samsung Gear S2

for those of you with watches already, are there any issues with custom roms/rooted phones?
I assume there are not, but just wanted to check
thanks!

I have a Nexus 6 with AICP (rooted, LP ROM based on CM source) mated to a regular S2 (not sport). I presume the watch software is the same as on a Sport. I had little or no trouble getting everything that should work to work. I say everything that should work because if you have a Samsung device with TW interface apparently there are more features. After installing everything (which was not hard at all, just installed Gear manager from the Play Store and followed the directions), I did have to do a light reset on the watch to get the notifications to show up.
Anyway, I am quite happy with the combination and the watch is doing everything I have asked it to do.
Hope that helps,
Fred

thanks Fred, I am on a nexus 6 currently running MM Chroma, but also run MM AOSIP, and MM Pure, so I too think that a sport will work just fine..Thing is, I am gonna grab a 3G version from TMO in a few days when they hit, so hopefully, the phone stuff works as seamlessly as the conventional " stuff" does.
So, the order of things should be setup the watch first, then install Gear manager, then do do a "light reset" on the watch? Whats a "light reset", like a reboot, or more like a wipe? And, do you have to install that Samsung Services app too, or just Gear manager?
I assume the 3G model might have a big of a different setup, so once TMobile gets an actual owners manual for the 3G Gear S2 up on their site, I will check it out.
Thanks again for the 411 :good::good:

I would install gear manager first, then crank the watch up. Don't select reactivation lock because if you want to trade the watch in for some reason you will have to remove it (I tried on a watch that the idiot did not remove and I am still angry).
Follow the instructions and yes you will have download the services app but so be it if it works.
The light reset is kind of like a factory data reset but I had to do it to get notifications to work. It was painless (say compared to unlocking the boot loader on your phone
I am linking mine more and more.
Cheers,
Fred

enTourage eDGe Dualbook

I have an enTourage eDGe Dualbook that currently runs on Android 1.6.
I was wondering if the Android developers here have any insight into how to make applications that would apply to this device? I have an interest in making application such as a calender that will sync with Google, MSN and others. I also would like to figure out how to get Flash light on the Edge. It currently does not have Flash, but I know that other devices do have it.
Can anyone help?
I would like to do the same. I have the pocket edge running ermine
Sent from my edgejr using XDA Premium App
I have the same device but with beta ERMIN 0.9 (which is 2.2.1) i was wondering if there is any way to root it. and if its not too much trouble i would really like the market too.
Here is your answer! even if it has root idk about a custom rom or even a market
Android Police has an Article on how to root
OK, need help
After problem with market I tried lot of thing from xda to enable it, nothing worked and after I messed up with lot of things on it I "wisely" decidet to factory reset it.
I did not mentioned I rooted it before and removed some system apps with titanium backup pro
Now after reset everything worked fine till green screen of welcome and 11 steps I skipped all after conecting to wi-fi because there was no eDGe server to register me.
And after skip I got blank screen just with notification bar, after while it locked itself, unlocked it by slideing and still blank.
Like there is no Launcher app.
Now I would use update.zip for ermine but I am lost so many PE users and everything here about PE.
But I need EE original standard one, so please someone direct me to right link for matching update.zip for EE (not PE) and easy instructions because I do not remember anything how I did it last time.
Should I first downgrade to dingo than use update for ermine ???
Update: after shut down (it let me by long press rotation button) after I turn it on it stays in loop (EDGE logo with 4 dots).
resolved, loaded golden dingo then ermine.
wi-fi problem resolved by app but gapps dead for now.

Unable to set up Samsung Pay on Gear S3 after upgrade to Galaxy S8+

As the title implies, my issue is slightly different from the others reported; I don't have issues with the BT connectivity (that I can tell). The watch and phone see and connect to each other. I have no tested this extensively, but I was receiving notifications on both devices just fine after setting it up.
My issue is specifically with Samsung Pay on the Gear. When I first selected the "Connect to a new device", and it went through the reset process, Pay was completely gone on the watch. Couldn't see it in apps, couldn't see it from the Samsung Gear app on my phone either. I thought that was peculiar, and couldn't find a remedy, so I reset the watch completely. After the reset, Pay was back, but the watch failed to finish the restore of my data. I reset it again. This time, Pay was back AND all of my data was restored without a hitch. I happened to already have the need to call my bank to authorize my debit card for Android/Samsung Pay on my S8+, and asked if the agent would stay on the line to ensure I can set up Pay on my watch as well. The nice gentleman agreed to, and after 15 minutes of rinse/repeat with holding the back button, the watch would do the following:
Display "Check your phone"
Display - and stay stuck - "Keep device connected"
Nothing happens. On either device. It's obviously trying to push an internet prompt to the phone, and it's not sending/receiving successfully
If anyone has any pro tips or experience with this, please chime in! And I don't want to seem rude, but in the interest of saving time, please assume I have at least a moderate understanding of device maintenance. Such that I power-cycled devices, reset, etc. The issue is consistent, and my underlying question here is whether or not it might have anything to do with my phone being the unlocked US model. Not International, but still unlocked.
I have the same issue as outlined in this thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/gear-s3/help/samsung-pay-gear-s3-unlocked-s8-t3620316
And in speaking with Samsung support, Samsung Pay only works with S3 paired with a carrier phone in the US, which is stupid.

Install ROM in Phone without resetting watch

Hi everyone,
I guess that many of you would agree with me that performing a clean install of a (custom) ROM on your Android phone quite a pain, as one must restore all its apps from his/her backup, set up accounts, etc. Ever since I bought HW2 though I realized that the pairing of the smartwatch with the phone cannot survive a TitaniumBackup of all the related apps and their data (namely Android Wear, Huawei Fit and the rest of the Huawei apps), and a reset on the watch is necessary to pair it up again (with the same phone); as setting up the phone from scratch wasn't enough
Am I doing something wrong, or such a situation is unavoidable? Also, is there a way to perform a quick backup of the watch' apps (if not along with their data), so that I don't have to download them again one by one from Play Store on the watch (assuming that I haven't unlocked the bootloader and haven't installed TWRP)?
Thank you in advance!
There is actually a way to pair the watch to another phone, or in your case, to you phone after flashing a new rom without needing to factory resetting the watch, read here
https://www.xda-developers.com/pair-android-wear-without-factory-reset/
Btw i tried this method and confirm that it works!
Good luck!

Thank you so much for sharing this. You can't imagine how many times I was forced to reset my watch because of a custom ROM installation.

Can't Change Phone Number on Gear S3

Hi, i recently bought a gear s3 *SMR-765V) from someone and i can't seem to change the phone number on the watch.
i have tried to reset the watch.
i have tried to factory reset the watch by selecting the recovery option after the "rebooting" screen.
and i have tried to reinstall the firmware on the watch using NETODIN.....
nothing works so far, unless somehow i missed some options in the netodin options screen? perhaps reformatting and re partitioning it might help?
but anybody got any suggestions to fixing the problem would be nice.
the watch is a SMR-765V.
and i'm trying to use this outside the USA.

I think the V designates it is Locked to Verizon but since it is an esim I thought you could give the EID to the new carrier and they can generate a code to activate but you may need to have Verizon or pay a 3rd party App or service to Unlock it?
Personally I hate dealing with Esims would rather just have a nano SIM slot in the watch
Sent from my SM-G986U1 using Tapatalk
Same issue. I got one from China sent to the UK and it is a R765V (Verizon) model. It doesn't activate (not surprising) but the watch works.
In about watch the watch phone number displays as +1 000-000-000.
I know there is combination firmware out there that can remove reactivation lock but i've seen nothing regarding removing/resetting the eSim (if it's even possible...only had this watch a day or two so still learning!)
What software version are you on? I'm currently R765VVRU1CSD6 (apparently the latest according to Verizon site)
@adfree kindly posted a link to the firmware if you need it to update to the latest version.
I tried changing the CSC on it too and it only displays VZW so that method is out of the window, i only want the tizen 4.0.0.7 update ?
Even if you manage to unlock the device, as far as i am aware verizon used cdma so it may not work anyway.

Matt

Question Pair GW4 Watch To Phone Without Reset...

So I know there's a method for pairing Wear OS watches running 2.0 through ADB with the Google Wear OS app.
Does the same apply for Galaxy Watch 4 and the Galaxy Wearable App? I really don't want to go through the configuration and sideloading of all these apps again ... That's what I get for trying to do too much with ADB and experimenting .
Not that ive found.....its annoying as hell, i have a ticket in with Samsung over it, Lots of shouting at them for selling me a $500 watch that they then seem to think they can tell me how to use. I havent finished shouting at them by a long shot. Because i test ROM's you can imagine how many hours their bs costs me....
My previous watch the Active 2 was simplish, you just set the Android ID to the same as previous install...
Niether that or the ADB method posted for earlier Wear OS works...
Do you mean this method?
Because if this doesn't work, I have a major problem, since I'm replacing roms quite often.

I doubt Samsung will do something about it ; ) they are out of their mind! For example they block blood pressure on non samsung phone so good that on some samsung phones it doesn't work too and they region lock the watch so when you have a phone from different region you can't connect the watch at least easily
Maybe they think if they block everything on everything they will sell some more blocked **** you know because security!
Yesterday I tried pulling an adb backup (adb backup -all or something) and ended up with a ~60MB file.
Has any of you tried this method for backing up and restoring a backup? Might not save the need to reset and pair again, but can save some time when reinstalling.
Haven't tried it myself, just throwing it out there.

How it went in the end? If successfully, can you briefly describe the steps? I'll do my own research based on those, thanks

In a nutshell, it didn't work.
I pulled a backup, but no command would restore the apps.
This is so frustrating! I experiment with ROMs and the fact that that I have to start out fresh each time really makes me think of switching back to TicWatch.

Speaking of switching back to TicWatch, you're not wrong. The only feature that I will miss would be the ECG capability (which also is broken, no QTc value calculation, etc)

Part of this is that blood pressure has to be approved by different authorities in different places. In the US, the FDA has not approved it.
Also, the stupid resetting thing appears to be a Wear OS 3 issue. Samsung never did that with Tizen. Google seems to have screwed the pooch on this one.
The thing about being unable to pair them once they lose connection is quite a big issue.
My watch and phone has just unpaired a few days ago, and I didn't do any system mods or anything for that to happens. If I try manual pairing with bluetooth it does not work.
I'm not friend of backups, since sometimes that process import some errors among system updates. So I normally do clean installings.
I tried that procedure removing google services via adb and wifi connection but de watch didn't connect in the end. And even if it connected it seems that some apps such as google Pay etc would give problems and would require to be reinstalled again.
On top of that I'm not quite sure but as I have the LTE version I think I will have to ask to my carrier to send me a new e-sim in order to connect the watch again, since I guess they are just one use.
So quite a big problem.
The really crummy part of it all, 1) the annoying tutorial EVERY DAMN TIME. although, as of the latest update (besides a reset a few days ago, oddly enough) it hasn't made me go through it. 2) the wearable app REQUIRING samsung internet (not beta) to be installed and default as browser while signing in and through the entire setup process. these are just to name a few things.
