Key remapping via generic.kl - Galaxy S6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
I know it's possible to remap keys using this file but I can't find much definitive info about it. I'd rather not use a third party app for this.
Basically I'd like to know if it's possible to map a key to a kill function to kill the foreground app? If yes what is that function.
And does anyone know what the key numbers for the physical buttons home, power and capacitive buttons are + their long press number?
Thanks

Need help to map keys...

has anyone tried to map the rest of the buttons? i really need it to work...
thanks...
I use AE Button Plus for mapping my keys.
http://ae.inc.ru/aebplus.php
It lets you even map things to the red and green call buttons, as well as teh volume slider. Also, it can activate different things for a single, double, triple or long press events. Practically quadruples the number of buttons you've got. Very recommended.
but ae button plus only allows u to control green, red and volume buttons.... i need to tweak the up, down, left and right buttons...

I also cannot understand why all key remapping software cannot remap all keys in the unit. This was not the case in a Treo. Could it be a hardware limitation?

It is very limited, only 4 buttons. You can not remap with it roller buttons - up, down, left, right and middle.
You can use Vito ButtonMapper
http://vitotechnology.com/products/buttonmapper.html
or
AE Button+
http://ae.inc.ru/aebplus.php
Sorry, I saw to late that you want to map the buttons through registry. I will dig into the registry to find the keys
I've got an XDA Ignito (Touch Diamond), and it only shows one button (voice speed dial) in the buttons app.
When looking in the registry there is only the key: 40C6, which is the Voice Speed dial, but no other keys.
Is it possible to add a key, and map it to a hardware button, maybe the ones above the phone keys, without using other software like AE Button +?
I have already tried with the keys 40C1-10 and it doesn't seem to make any difference.
Any ideas?
Thanks for any replies!
Edit: sorry I just noticed this is in the Polaris forum (was searching for mapping buttons and didnt notice!)

[Q] Is there a way to map the hard key?

I am looking to remap the <- key to be the "OK" button in WM. I don't use this key, and for the life of me can't think of a reason to, so it seems more intuitive to have it be the TPs "missing" button. TIA

Well, I'll start by saying there are several posts about the remap of buttons on xda. You should try searching first.
Anyhow, try AEBPlus and find those other posts which explain in detail how to remap (mostly the PTT button).. Good luck
tried searching but most info was for other devices, so I thought I would post here. I will give AEBPlus a shot. Thanks!

Unfortunately it appears (both from searching and from trying) that AE button does not work for the Home and Back keys on the TP.
I'm using it, wish they would update it to support the TP better. However, when mapping a new key, you have to hold the button down. this will show u the key code for that key, but it is only for long press. So this may be a partial fix. Otherwise, I'm not sure how to map the main function of that button. Maybe it's like the PTT and their is a file that is assigned to that key like the PTT_short.lnk ? Anyway good luck...hopefully someone will map these keys out or AEBPlus will update since the last update was in May 08...
What exactly are you trying to accomplish by mapping the back key to be "ok"? It essentially functions the same way, closing whatever window you're in and taking you ot the prior one.
I am looking for the ok/close feature I had on my i730. Using the back button allows the app I am leaving to continue to run instead of closing the program.

Why don't you just map the PTT to close? I presume you know how to remap the PTT button and here is a way to map it to 'close': http://www.fuzemobility.com/?p=1249
I have no PTT button

Re-assign Menu Button Function - Long Press

On my N1 a long press of the menu button brought up the keyboard regardless of what app you were in. This is especially helpful in apps that assume you have a physical keyboard (e.g. androidVNC). With my Captivate holding the menu button brings up the Google quick search bar which I could care less about.
Is it possible to edit/change this function?
We can't get a stock Android ROM for this thing soon enough!
i was actually thinking about the same thing too.
Let me remind you, long press on the menu button is exactly the same function as short press on the search button, so we really need a "mod" that'll change the duplication function.
This would be really great. Does anyone have any ideas?

They have a thread going over here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=706426 about the touch keys and modifying them. It looks like the long key press stuff is in the kernel. Not much we can do at the moment.
Solution found,see this:

So, I'm curious about something.

Is there any type of code where I could make my phone think the genius button is the back button? I'm not sure what happened maybe its just from pressing the back button so much but mine doesn't work anymore it feels like its jammed in and I was curious if there was any way to trick my phone into using a different key as the back button.
I know there's a back button on the phyiscal keyboard so its not that much fo a big deal if there isn't a way to do this, but if anyone knows that would be greatly appreciated.
A button remapper from the market. You may need to be rooted in order to use on though.
You could figure out how to do it here:
