Case auto wake - Shield Tablet Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So i got a case on ebay and its supposed to be able to wake the tablet when opening it. But it doesn't. So I ran a magnet all over the screen and I can't get it to turn off or on. Is there anything I need to enable? I looked in the settings and couldn't find anything relating to it.

Anyone know what would cause the screen to turn on while folded closed?

A few times now, I've noticed that when I pick up my "closed" transformer (docked and folded closed), that the screen is illuminated! I'm afraid this will cause my battery to drain unknowingly while in transit....
Anyone know what could cause the screen to come on when the TF is docked and folded closed??
Thanks!

Maybe you left an app running that has perimission to turn on the screen?
THanks for the reply... I'll have to look into that. I had assumed that when the transformer is docked and in the closed-up position, that the screen would not be allowed to be turned on regardless (can't think of a reason you'd actually want that).

Isn't that the "wake on keypress" issue that everyone talks about? Powersave mode?
It's supposed to go to sleep and not wake until the TF is opened or the power button is pushed but due to a hardware issue, you can wake the TF by pushing any key.

Hi.
No, there is no such function on the TF700.
The 7" Nexus tablet has it, but not this one.
For the Galaxy Note with a Flip Cover, we can to use the sensor of light and/or sensor of proximity to obtain the same result of Smartcover.
You must install the app Power Switch and it's work.
I think or i hope it's okay with our TF700 ... what do you think about this ?
i actually think thats a really good alternative...gonna look into the lite version when i get home...

I don't need a magnet. All I do is close the case with docked tab and it sleeps. Wakes when I lift the lid.

I tried Power Switch, it didn't work very well for me. I use Awesome On Off Ultimate so I don't have to keep using the power button.

This app is VERY impressive, thanks for the suggestion. My friends' jaws dropped when they saw it in action. Silly iOS users.
Need some help
I installed Awesome on off ultimate on my Transformer Infinity, but have some problems. The only way to turn screen off is to press the Screen off icon. No gestures or flings will turn it off. Tilting the Tab turns it on ok.
When I pick ut the Infinity to bring it with me in a bag, the screen turns on by accident, draining the battery
What can I do to turn the screen off with gestures, including those needed to turn off the screen more permanently so that I have to turn it on with the physical on/off button?
Thanks

Incorrect.
There IS a magnet sensor on the tablet to turn the screen off when the dock is close to the screen. The magnet is on the right side of the keyboard dock, sort of beside the touchpad and under the menu key.
Problem is that sensor only gets activated when the dock is connected. Maybe there is a way to trick the tablet to think the dock is connected and enable this sensor. Sure would be handy to have a magnetic screen off switch on sleeves.

Could I ask how do you know this? Is there a way to check the presence and state of such extra sensor. In the kernel source there should be something.
I'll be able to confirm if the dock has a magnetic sensor in a few days. I have a magnetic stylus that I just got a few days ago that should be able to trigger the sensor if it's there.
What I can say already is that there is definitely a magnetic spot in the location described, to the right of the trackpad and below the menu key. My stylus holds on very well there. I had the tablet on the entire time though, so no chance of accidentally seeing any sensor behavior. Would check now, but I'm away from home for a few days and I forgot to bring the stylus with me.

To test it, it's simple. Put a magnet on the screen at the position corresponding, on the dock, to the one described by pileot and you ll see that the screen will switch off.
As pileot said, unfortunately, it only works when tablet is docked.

I have Apex Launcher installed. For my down gesture, I have it set to launch "Lock Screen App" https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=kennethcheng.com.lockscreen.free&feature=related_apps#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEwOSwia2VubmV0aGNoZW5nLmNvbS5sb2Nrc2NyZWVuLmZyZWUiXQ.. Also, do you have set for the display to go to sleep? I noticed if I carry my tablet in portrait mode, the screen doesn't turn on. Maybe you can give that a try. Hope that helps.
I'm not understanding how to turn the screen off with ultimate on. What icon do I press. I press the one in the notification bar and it takes me to the ultimate on menu. It doesn't shut the screen off.

Just sent grandmaster an email if he can make a setting for us without a proximity sensor. Use with tablets. We should be able to set the tablet down for a couple of seconds and the screen should shut off. Maybe even give us a choice on how many seconds before the screen shuts off. I would like 3 second delay the off.

Several things. First, i have taken the dock apart (to ad pennies into the front of it to make it heavier so it tips over less) and noticed the magnet. Second because if you take a paperclip or other light, metal object and place it about 1 inch to the right of the touchpad and about 1 inch below the keyboard it will stick. Third, when the tablet is DOCKED you can put a magnet at the right spot in the screen and the screen will turn off.
Problem is it only works when docked.
,has anyone tried to use a magnet to sleep the infinty with the transsleeve locked in instead of the dock? Wonder if it just has to have something in the slots for the magnet to work.

Don't know if someone is interested in this, but due to this thread I was able to locate the hall sensor position of my TF701T. Obviously it is the same as of the TF700T. Without anything docked I am able to put the TF701T to wake and sleep with a little magnet.
Thanks,
motskuh
Not sure if anyone is still following this thread but there is a solution for Eroc162 turning off the screen with a jester. It's called Screen off and lock. If you have the swipe to search button and don't use it this app will use that jester to turn off the screen. If you are like me and have flashed KatKiss KatshMallow 6.0 (Marshmallow based ROM) you can use the onscreen widget . Works great!

[Q] Screen awake on touch?

Dear xda community,
Since I received my Nexus 5 more than a week ago I am experiencing something which keeps me thinking.
Sometimes when I want to pick up my phone to check something, the screen will wake up without me touching any buttons. Is this supposed to happen?
What's happening quite often because of that is: I want to pick up my phone -> grabbing it -> screen awakes -> but since I am pushing the power button myself half a second later -> screen turns dark again. This is a little annoying from time to time...
I tried to recreate this incident but it just happens every ~30th time. While doing this I keep attention not to hit a button accidentally.
Any Ideas whats going on? Bug or feature? Are you experiencing something similar?
Thank you and best regards!
Same thing happening with my Nexus 5. Screen opens on picking it up. It happens on randomly.
I cannot see any pattern though.
Could be a faulty power button switch? Making a connection under the movement?
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
It will wake up if the surface you put it on has a magnet in or near it. It's the hall effect sensor that does this, used for a cases that wake up the device when opened
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
Are you using a Custom rom?
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
There are some custom ROM/Kernel combo's which give the option to wake the phone by double tapping the screen. However this isn't present in stock. As some have already said the phone will wake if placed near a magnet, if I put my N5 on top my iPad it wakes when I pick it up. If none of these apply its probably faulty.

Pocket unlocking?

Hey all,
My nexus 5 is keep unlocking itself while it's in my pocket, and doing random things like calling people, opening apps etc.
I set the pattern lock, and it helped, but from time to time I still see that screen is awake when I pick phone from pocket, sometimes it's in emergency call... Is there a "pocket mode" or something that I turned on or what's up with my phone?
Anyone else experiencing similar thing?
I hate pattern lock thing as well, but I saw that as only solution to a problem that I had.
HA..ha.ha.. Happens to me all the time. But in my case it happens only when i get a call while the phone is in the pocket. Not only does the call get rejected or accepted, but it also unlocks the phone, opens a plethora of apps and then goes back to sleep.
Now, the solution
Do you use a case? If yes, is the power button covered by the case? If yes, then you can either change your case or cut the case around the power button.
If you don't use a case, make sure your power button is not messed up! or you might have to replace the button (THE CERAMIC ONE)
Good luck let us know how it goes

Thanks for your quick answer.
I do not use case yet, looking for one these days for sure. The phone is new so I don't think that button should be replaced, it's working just fine from what I can tell. Guess that i'll have to stick with pattern and to see if some nice case can help with this problem as well.
Thank you once again.
Never once has my Nexus 5 done anything in my pocket. I'd say its your pocket's fault, not the Nexus 5
I'm running LiquidSmooth. It has an option that the screen doesn't turn on if something covers the proximity sensor. It's quite useful when your N5 is in your pocket but if it is laying on the table and I try to unlock it I need to watch out a bit
Sorry for my bad English

Double tap wake up feature

Anyone else having issue with this feature. I noticed my phone would wake up randomly in my pocket with this feature on.
I'm not sure exactly how it's even waking up as you still need to slide the bar across to unlock it. After i turned the feature off my phone wouldn't unlock itself anymore.

You would need to see if this ever happens outside your pocket, without anyone touching it. If it doesn't, perhaps you can try touching the phone through the outside of your pocket; perhaps you're doing that without noticing it.
So after two charging cycles with it off I don't see any major difference. Its just like the LG G2 for me, very minimal impact on battery life.

becos your phone screen face towards you when u put it in your pocket.
n while u walking, it keeps brushin against your skin in your pocket.

They should have used the proximity sensor to detect if it was in your pocket. Even manually covering the sensors up still allows the phone to be woke up.
Yeah, I had this issue too. Very annoying so so had to disable the feature. It's a shame because I liked unlocking it by tapping. Maybe they can fix it to not unlock if the proximity sensor is covered with a feature software update?
Sent from my D6633 using Tapatalk
That's probably what they *should* do. I never/don't have a problem with it on my M8.
I doubt it'd use much battery life to check if it's up against something before turning the screen on.
I have same problem with waking up in pocket. And since lollipop update the new slide up to unlock has caused issues with phone activating the flashlight and messing with wifi bluetooth nfc and other quick settings. Sad I have to disable as I love this feature.
Glad I installed gravity box and had proximity sensor option for that
