AOSP rom isn't fully working yet. Even if it gets fully stable, we have to wait quite long time before that..

I would be so happy when we would get Marshmallow's Custom Rom's for Xperia M2. I guess it will take a lot of time like another year or so to appear on the internet fully functioning and working how it should. Also can someone explain what does AOSP mean ? I have heard this word a lot but don't know for what it is used, sorry, I'm new here.

AOSP (Android Open Source Program) is pure Android system without any google apps and services or any other additions.
In my personal opinion it's the best rom for mid-range device like we have. Despite lack of customizations.
One we get fully working AOSP I flash it immediately and I will compile it on my own with all updates from Google.

Well then it might be something for me because I hate this all bloat which comes with every smartphone you buy (Google Movie, Google Newsstand,Xperia Lounge and other crap like this). You said that AOSP is a pure Android system so does that mean after you install it, it lacks apps like Google Play or Gmail and Youtube ? Also is AOSP released by Google or some third party company and what do you mean by lack of customisation ?

I THINK
they are only for developers . we have to wait until some one build the stable system.. am I right?

[Q] Lollipop or custom rom for Sony E4g?

(was directed to this forum from the XDA Assist)
I'm very new to Android (been using iPhone since its release) but i got a Sony Xperia E4g as a gift from my carrier and I would like to update it to Lollipop or root it and get something like MIUI on it. This that possible?
I would like to get rid of all the Xperia software and just get a clean Android install like Nexus phones have.

you can think of source code as a raw materiel of android kernel.
which you/someone has to compile to get a kernel which you can flash on your device.
and you can modify raw meterial to do anything you want to do with your kernel.
for example disabling system write protection (sony_ric) adding custom recovery(cwm) overclocking ,undervolting etc.
and if you get enough experience you can port lollypop or cynogenmod12 to your device.

I think mtk no longer sucks.
Mtk devices won't have source code cause most of companies that are using mtk are not releasing source code.
Like micromax never released sources.
i got an E4g it's really fast with good battery life, maybe the faster device in that price.
Soon costum roms will come out and prerooted stock firmware :fingers-crossed:

cwm, twrp
Hi all there!
Well I got me an e4g as well and I'd spend some time working on cm. Actually I've been looking on the partition table a bit to get cwm or twrp running as a first step but I got stuck there as I could not figure out where the recovery partition resides. Therefore I'd like to know if someone already started working on that and if someone has / or knows where to get a stock rom. And as a last question has someone tried the chinaphone / MTK backup from SpaceX with e4g?
(Sorry cannot post link here )
Cheers

Android 6.0 Marshmallow is coming, CM13 is coming too

Have you thought that as soon this new android version is coming new AOSP ROMs like CyanogenMod and Omni are also coming? Write here all what you think this new ROM should have that the previous ones didn't have!
P.D.: Is there going to be Xposed installer available for this new version ?? We will see that soon

Onereason Android makes it a better choice than Ios was this fact that you are onmuch more open work to walk on(easily root and stuff) but Android m accordin to news here is trying all it can to blockbring changes..i seems we are again going through OS which is going to limited our capabilities in customizin its environment...if this happened,I believe other OS like firefox or in near future, MIUI(independent of android in future),will have more chance of getting attention ...hope google won't cose the paths to root and stuff as root is really what brings out "the most feature of Linux system in android" and having an androind device as being more pleasant

I don't think Google would do that. Because it would ruin Android's Open Source. But if that happen, there would be another OS to develop for SmartPhones: Ubuntu Touch

Well brothers, we hope Marshmallow brings prosperity to Android. Or more
Will Galaxy Grand Neo (GT-I9060) have 6.0 Marshmallow rom, im stuck over 2years with JB 4.2 its horrible
One thing that is awesome about Android 6.0 is the fact that we will be able to limit what apps can access.I'm hoping that in turn adds to better security to your device since we live now in a world that security gets harder as technology gets farther along.
wonder what new features will be in CM 13..

CM13 nightly released for Asus Padfone S/X.I am not sure about this just saw a guide on theandroidsoul.com.If it is true then CM13 will be available for other devices. soon
This thread is interesting, and could be one to follow re the progress of CM13. http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/general/cm13-0-unofficial-watching-code-merged-t3228335
Apparently we know that Doze will be included in CM13, which is good news IMO....I'm very excited about the battery life increases it should bring.
Cool
Now that Cyanogenmod is in bed with Microsoft and will install Microsoft apps as default system apps that can't be removed...I no longer care about any new CM news or builds.

Android N on Xperia Z3

Hello guys, I am curious will Sony anounce official Android N support for our beloved Z3?
By that time can I use Developer Preview 4.ftf as daily driver? I can handle some glitchs.

Sorry to disappoint you but the Z3 isn't going to be graced with official Android N support. DP4 is as far as we're going to get.
DP4 can be used as a daily driver but there is an issue with the wifi. If you're not connected to wifi you need to disable it or risk a possible random reboot.

It's not fixed? Can we get monthly security updates?
Well 7.1 aosp will Come as binaries are already avaible. Wenn just habe still luck. Thing is that official Support Not avaible couse device leaks off the encription that Google forced to 7.0 thats why we dont got it .
Does this mean the only way to get N on Z3 is through AOSP? Can't someone port Android N from another Xperia device?

Port Android N from another device? Qualcomm depracated msm8974 platform long ago so no other msm8974 device will be getting Nougat officially. All the other Xperia devices that will receive Nougat are 64 bit, using 3.10 kernel officially, and are on different platforms which means it won't work. Furthermore, there's also an additional barrier of proprietary libraries.
AOSP is the way to go

Ah that's a shame. That being said I don't know why Sony teased us a developer preview of Android N if we were never going to get it officially. It's like showing some dessert and then saying you can't have it. My Xperia S has alot of support in terms of AOSP, hell there's been a stable build of Nougat for a while. I haven't updated it because I only use it to listen Audiobooks. Seeing as we no longer have official support, I hope this means more AOSP focus.

Qualcomm deprecated the msm8974 platform and Google had those encryption or OpenGL requirements, not sure why everyone blames Sony when no other msm8974 is getting official Nougat..

Time to talk about Android O for our device

First question does Osprey's hardware support Android O ?
Prob does but we'll prob not be able to have some features
Osprey's hardware didn't supported android N too but we got it with custom rom... I think this will happened with android O too

Just for fyi, lineageosdownloads.com is not the official site (download links are redirected to actual linageos.org (org, not com)). So information they give cannot be verified unless the official linageos blog posts something about it.
It's still a long way. Source code hasn't been out yet. After AOSP code is pushed, linageos team will work on it, but considering the limited resources (unlike CyanogenMod), it can take a while. After the base is ready, then devs will focus on building device specific images and fix bugs. Only then android o will be roaster ready. Other derivative ROMs will take more time obviously.
We can't be sure if 8.0 will be fully compatible with our device. We don't have official Nougat kernel sources and proprietary blobs (AFAIK), also from what I've observed so far, the farther apart the last official firmware and target firmware are, the harder it is to keep a ROM unmodified and yet stable & functional.
Our device shouldn't die that easy though, as newer Moto devices with similar hardware as osprey and Merlin have been released.
Broadcasted from Zeta Reticuli
Just like i say earlier our device it wasn't supported android N but we got it thanks to our awesome developers. I think they won't let us down with android O too.. it maybe take a little time but i think we will have android O for our moto g 2015
sorry for my bad english
Hopefully we get O, and hopefully O comes default with the pixel nav because redacting that would take effort thats not worth it now that nexus is dead .

Our device does support Nougat, it is evident by the presence of custom ROMs (and even a stock port). The only reason we didn't get a OTA was because the company didn't provide us. The Moto ROM and these custom ROMs all are based on AOSP code.( Technically, if the company released the full source of their ROM and features, then we could build stock ROMs too)
And yes, you are right, it may take a little while but eventually we should see the ROMs coming
But the absence of latest device specific proprietary stuff and official kernel sources forces devs to look for other branches to fill the gaps and get newer thingies working. In some places it's not possible to implement a certain feature and an older feature is modded to make it work, for example before the official marshmallow OTA was out, we already got marshmallow ROMs but it had some hacky workarounds for radio (I don't know if it was updated after that), same goes for early Nougat when camera was becoming a problem. The camera is still not perfect (check linageos thread), working correctly on some apps and glitching on others. Newer software, newer challenges.
But codes are not exactly like food though, mixture of old and new ones is not always bad. But the blobs and drivers sometime give headache
Broadcasted from Zeta Reticuli
Have faith on our awsome developer we will surely have android O
Well, Android Oreo is out. I really hope that Osprey will get it soon.
https://source.android.com/devices/architecture/treble
according to this website,
"With Treble, a new stable vendor interface provides access to the hardware-specific parts of Android, enabling device makers to deliver new Android releases simply by updating the Android OS framework—without any additional work required from the silicon manufacturers"
Does this mean if someone gets Lineage OS 15 or OTA of Stock Android 8.0, they will receive all the updates from google from security patch to new Android versions (If the hardware is capable of running that version obviously!)?
---------- Post added at 09:47 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:46 AM ----------
If that so, Manufacturers can just update all the devices which theoretically can run android O , it will be a onetime work, after that it'll be easy to update the devices
That would be amazing. Let's wait for a developer opinion.
I managed to build AOSP 8.0_r4 for osprey with SELinux disabled and tons of warnings, using cm14.1's files with some edits. Though for some reason the kernel doesn't seem to boot (I tried with linage os and squid kernel)
I attached the boot.img it built if someone more expert wants to look at it (I didn't manage to find anything wrong)
Flashing the file results in fastboot "Error: failed to load the kernel"

Do these ROMs have the slight but constant micro-stuttering that the stock ROM has?
I guess all these ROMs are loaded with Google's stuff?
With the exception of Play Store I'd like to be free of the Google fleet of useless apps.
It's great that you've been able to port these ROMs. I hope a lot of people use them. I just have different needs! Tx.

Yes, all of them. You can "freeze" or delete unwanted Google apps. Do it manually or try to find scripts which can do this automatically.
Hi, I was thinking to buy this tablet.
Can these ROMs fix the issue of too high brightness even at the lowest level?
If not can you recommend a free application to solve the problem?
Better this or teclast m89 pro? Thanks.

To solved this brightness issue I use the sFilter app or any other blue light filter app.
But to tell the truth, I wouldn't recommend to buy any Teclast tablet. I have a problem where he doesn't accept the installation of Instagram or Facebook app. I saw that many people have the same problem.
Anyone else with this problem or know how to solve?

I added solution, check it and let me know if it works for u
It's possible to change brightness limits manually by editing firmware files, If there's a big problem for u and other users I can change its' range sometime. Just let me know what firmware u are using.
Hello dev!
Are you still working on this device firmware? I bought it this month and not even on official site could find updates for, so I don't know if there is any firmware that I should update before using these that you made...
I'm using Pixel Experience and found it great. But I had problems with the initial setup, which always had trouble trying to recover the configuration of another device. When I checked to set up as a new device it work fine.
I could not open Magisk too, but i wanted to disable it and remove, but always shows error when trying. I'll try MIUI in sequence to see if I can.
Another question: The modified Stock has gapps included? (and can I remove root?)
Thank you so much for your work, I was happy to know that have other firmware for this tablet.
PS.: sorry for the "google translator english", my english is poor. lol

I used the modified rom too and liked a lot, but I couldn't install some apps through the playstore and had problems to remove root (Magisk). So I installed ASUS ROM and it is very stable and everything is working great. I'll leave it and see what happens!
Thanks!

Hello!
1) There is no more firmwares to port for our device. Also I don't know much about modding firmwares, so Pixel was my first successful experiment.
2) Latest official firmware for our device is TOS v2.1 which can be found in appropriative thread here. Seems no more updates will be released for our device.
3) Restoring function is bad idea esp on custom ROM. You should always make clean installation.
4) Custom ROMs can only boot with root access (e.g. Magisk). You cant uninstall it. In other case your device wont boot (Android 7.0 classical issue). P.S Magisk is not like "classic" root, so you can "hide" it for apps that don't work on rooted device.
5) Of course stock ROM includes Gapps. All made changes are listed in topic. Root can'f be removed on any custom ROM (see p.4).

Thank you!
I gave the tablet to my son, the Stock ROM that came on it is'nt good and so I put the ASUS ZenUI ROM. (After testing all others)
I hide Magisk and the ROM is working perfectly.
Thank you so much for the great work.
Happy 2020.
