[Q] Lollipop or custom rom for Sony E4g? - Sony Xperia E3

(was directed to this forum from the XDA Assist)
I'm very new to Android (been using iPhone since its release) but i got a Sony Xperia E4g as a gift from my carrier and I would like to update it to Lollipop or root it and get something like MIUI on it. This that possible?
I would like to get rid of all the Xperia software and just get a clean Android install like Nexus phones have.

you can think of source code as a raw materiel of android kernel.
which you/someone has to compile to get a kernel which you can flash on your device.
and you can modify raw meterial to do anything you want to do with your kernel.
for example disabling system write protection (sony_ric) adding custom recovery(cwm) overclocking ,undervolting etc.
and if you get enough experience you can port lollypop or cynogenmod12 to your device.

developers uses source codes to develop rom,s/kernel,s

Woah! That's surprising! I thought only Android One devices got MTK sources.

I think mtk no longer sucks.
Mtk devices won't have source code cause most of companies that are using mtk are not releasing source code.
Like micromax never released sources.

i got an E4g it's really fast with good battery life, maybe the faster device in that price.
Soon costum roms will come out and prerooted stock firmware :fingers-crossed:

Sony said they are releasing e4 with kitkat and they will be updating it to lollipop.
That all i know. Maby said for both e4 and e4g.

cwm, twrp
Hi all there!
Well I got me an e4g as well and I'd spend some time working on cm. Actually I've been looking on the partition table a bit to get cwm or twrp running as a first step but I got stuck there as I could not figure out where the recovery partition resides. Therefore I'd like to know if someone already started working on that and if someone has / or knows where to get a stock rom. And as a last question has someone tried the chinaphone / MTK backup from SpaceX with e4g?
(Sorry cannot post link here )
Cheers

E3 Mentioned nowhere for the update

Well I suppose sony isn't supporting this device.... In the latest news, sony has announced lollipop 5.1 for many devices including M2 by july.... But has not mentioned anything about E3, leaving it out of the picture totally....
Hi @ShanePunk123
About updates the issue Is not just for Xperia E3. Indeed, Xperia T3 and 2015 Xperias like E4 and E4g are not listed for upgrade at this date.
In real terms, Xperia E1 is the less updateable of the remaining 2014 Xperias due to low ram (just 512 Mb). But we dont know. Sony can drop it all 2014/2015 E series and just update T3, or update all the 2014 remainings and 2015 newcomings.
At this moment we can assure or have the good feeling (in terms of hardware) for get lollipop in Xperias E3, E4, E4g and T3 , because they have the required to run lollipop. May be they jump to 5.1 directly overriding or avoiding 5.0.2. Idk that
Currently is an active AOSP 5.1 developer program for the Xperias E3 and T3, so, this is a tiny bit of light in our dark. For AOSP in this models, Camera is not working but other functions are working at least normally as possible, but AOSP is not intended to be a daily usable ROM. And CM guys are working in CM12.1 but theres no stable CM12.1 for us. Instead. 2013 devices and older have an active CM12 development with good stability. Damn DRM and Sony drivers ¬¬
So....Be happy because some 5.0.2 Xperia users are annoyed with the bitter lollipop because of extreme heating, no wifi, no select sound configurations, low battery life and other uncomfortable issues that didnt happen when they were sweet chocolateys. These users are going to jump to 5.1 in July and the jumping is easy for them because they have at least lollipop.
Now, keep in mind that Android M is coming and I have my doubts about reaching M. Maybe lollipop (or kitkat) is going to be the latest and final android version for our E3, other mid rangers and oldest high end Xperias.

I hope that sony will update a device about 10 months and does not adopt policies like HTC who abandons its customers. I hope that Sony will not do so, otherwise, I do not buy a Sony product. We look at other manufacturers like Motorola that are upgrading the Moto X (2013), not only Samsung also updates its products dated, so I hope that the projects we are active on FXP to our devices have a future update.
Maybe it has to do with the internal storage. Remember the Xperiia M4 Aqua 8 GB version? That thing only has about 1.33 free space(1.75 with removed bloatware). Imagine the E3 with just its less than 4 GB... Android 5 uses way too much space. The only one I think still has a chance is T3. I'm pretty sure E4 is already set on the update map.

So initially I'll test boot it on d2203 and if it works then port.

@hell_lock should i upload now. cuz @thenemis gave you link.
@hell_lock about to my previous experince with cm11 of lte varriants i know that for porting it to our devices need to work on kernel/ramdisk and maby we need to work on rom for RIL only. after that only bug,s by fxp will be needed to be fixed.
but however this is lollipop and i have tested on kitkat.
Great!

[Sony] Xperia Open Devices Project

Sony Mobile is committed to supporting the open developer community, and one way to show this is by publishing parts of our code as well as selected tools developed by our internal developers.
For some of the Xperia™ devices, we provide Android™ Open Source Project (AOSP) device configurations on GitHub. This means that the software will be open for you as a developer to use and contribute to. This is a way for us to support the open Android community, and it is also a tool for us to facilitate and verify contributions to AOSP.
If you want to build AOSP for your unlocked Xperia device, you find all the resources you need in the sections below.

I don't know how to cook roms myself. I'm waiting for some dev that know cooking stuff to make the ROM based on Marshmallow.
It's a little weard tbh as there are new 5.1 roms all over the place, but no new topic's with 6.0.
The only ROM that I can find is the AOSP from FXP Group, but it's old (19th October) with bugs etc.
I don't know why they suspend the work on it.
We have official source from Sony to build 6.0 AOSP rom, + now the aosp camera possibilty and could even maybe import the theme engine, launcher from Sony Marshmallow Concept from Z3.
I know that it can be a lot, and its only my toughts as I don't know how exacly build this stuff up, and I just keep my finger cross that someone will grab hands on it and build some nice looking rom for our Z1 Compact.

I know that @erikcas is working on it, (mentioned in his Omni thread), and there is or was a build out there for Z1c - http://fxpblog.co/aosp/aosp-6-0/ - which I flashed and got bootloop. Besides that, someone else started a thread which was closed. I don't know the details, but it seems like they weren''t being totally kosher, (it's still viewable somewhere in the forum). I'm sure we'll be seeing something more from FXP before too long...

Hello, you don't have to get account to use Emma, follow instructions from Sony here http://developer.sonymobile.com/services/flash-tool/how-to-download-and-install-the-flash-tool/ you probably skipped this part - Copy the Customization.ini file. You find it in the Flash_tool_for_Xperia_X.zip.
I can see there is no openbootloader for amami
Edit:
figured it out, its just need to flash ta update aka new s1 boot config.

AOSP rom isn't fully working yet. Even if it gets fully stable, we have to wait quite long time before that..
I would be so happy when we would get Marshmallow's Custom Rom's for Xperia M2. I guess it will take a lot of time like another year or so to appear on the internet fully functioning and working how it should. Also can someone explain what does AOSP mean ? I have heard this word a lot but don't know for what it is used, sorry, I'm new here.

AOSP (Android Open Source Program) is pure Android system without any google apps and services or any other additions.
In my personal opinion it's the best rom for mid-range device like we have. Despite lack of customizations.
One we get fully working AOSP I flash it immediately and I will compile it on my own with all updates from Google.

Well then it might be something for me because I hate this all bloat which comes with every smartphone you buy (Google Movie, Google Newsstand,Xperia Lounge and other crap like this). You said that AOSP is a pure Android system so does that mean after you install it, it lacks apps like Google Play or Gmail and Youtube ? Also is AOSP released by Google or some third party company and what do you mean by lack of customisation ?
I THINK
they are only for developers . we have to wait until some one build the stable system.. am I right?

I will try but it's a hard task because Sony provide only the Kernel sources, not like on flagship devices where you have the device tree and the proprietary tree too. I tried to build CM13 and it's almost done but I will not spend more time on it because I'm alone to solves bugs and Nougat will come soon.

And a last clue, if you look at the bottom of the guide in "related" contents, you will find Lineage15 guides for almost all Xperia with Mediatek processor.

No hope then... Developement is so weak on this device
Edit: this "vache" seems to be a developer for Moto phones
We need lineage for Xperia XA
Imight, I have made it for other devices,
Best Option to stand any chance of custom ROM's on our XA
It will take a lot of effort testing and time but if we want this device running Oreo + then these guys are the only real hope. :fingers-crossed:
https://github.com/MediatekAndroidDevelopers/information
A thread with real pledges needs to be started so we can raise enough funds for test devices and to ask for official support. :fingers-crossed:
The coolpad note3 got support but are the Sony Xperia XA users as committed as they are????
You'd have my money for an Oero Rom
I can support with something if we get more develoment for this phone and I want an Oreo rom ofc
Resurrection Remix
buys loads of devices source code from manufactures
and makes newer android versions for many devices, even for unpopular devices,
so its worth talking to them,

Is Android 7 for D2203 available?

Hello!
I wonder if there is a Android 7 (or even 8) ROM available for my Sony Xperia E3 D2203. It seems that the last "supported" ROM is Android 6
If there is any Android 7 ROM just let me know
Thanks

I'm trying to compile Lineage OS 14.1 (android 7.1.2) for our phone with 3.4.0 kernel. If I get it, I am about to upload the rom here.
Most of the sources are in SonyLOS repository (if you want to experiment)
By the time, seems that system can be compiled succesfully but not the kernel, which gets built into boot.img but phone fails to start.

Sounds promising. If you need help and if you have any guidance I could maybe support you. I'm also a software engineer but not an Android Kernel hacker. Maybe I can assist you if there are some good tutorials. Just let me know

Yes, I can make a LineageOS based guide, like this one but with flamingo's repos. In my free time I can do it.

No, I've LTE version (D2203) but perhaps porting some patches from eagle (which has the same processor) I can make it work, but first I need to compile a working rom for D2203.

Best of luck dude, I would be thankful if a ROM was developed soon..
can some of you guys help me with the test point of d2203
i hard bricked it and the only solution i might have is that!!
please/? or how to find the testpoint
I have a 2243, that works almost like 2203. It is a GSM with LTE. (I don't really know the difference between them ) If anyone want to use it as a laboratory, just tell me I already do this. I had flashed so may ROM's at my own risk.... One more won't make difference at all haha
I'm facing some problems with RAM (compilation stops at 40% becouse of the memory) so the rom may come later, when I can fix all the issues.
