Flashing ROM after turning on Encryption - Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey there,
i've got a problem, don't know how serious it is. i recently installed cm12.1 for the p900 wifi, then decided to test cm11 for there were several bugs and i needed a stable rom. bein in cm12.1 still i encrypted the device. unfortunately i didn't set a password before flashing cm11. now, after flashing the older rom (cm11) i receive a password prompt before i can enter the OS. well, that password has never been set and i seem to be stuck.
my question: how can i reset everything (format partition) to a "blank state" and make a fresh install of cm11?
thanks in advance,
andi

[Q] P5100: CM10.1.2 + Kernel Dhollmen: trying encryption leads to bootloop

hello,
I've installed Dhollmen kernel 20130722 on top of a Cyanogenmod 10.1.2.
The recovery is PhilZ Touch build 5.05.0 p5100 (CWM base 6.0.3.2).
All works fine, but my troubles begin when I try to password-encrypt the tablet (Settings -> Security -> Encrypt tablet).
The encryption process requires a restart, but then the Cyanogenmod logo appears and begins to roll and nothing else happens!
After two hours the logo still rolls.... at this point I did a reset and newly performed a clean install of CM 10.1.2 to get back a working tablet.
Note: if I install only CM 10.1.2 (that is, without changing his official kernel), the Encryption process completes successfully, so I wonder if the problems are related to the Dhollmen kernel.
However, since I truly love this kernel, I would like to use it, but I cannot renounce to encryption (for security reasons).
Any idea?

Ask the dev :cyclops::cyclops::cyclops:
I apologize, the problem doesn’t concern Dhollmen kernel, I’ve tried to install another kernel (Blackhawk) over CM and the issue was always the same: bootloop when trying to encrypt.
It’s clear that I’m doing something wrong, but I don’t know what!
In doubt, I’ve tried to start from a “clean” state; from CWM 6.0.2.7:
1. Format “/data/” and “/data/media/”
2. Format “/cache/”
3. Format “/preload/”
4. Format “/system/”
5. Flashed CM 10.1.2 (from external sd)
6. Flashed google apps (from external sd)
7. Flashed kernel (from external sd)
When I restart the tablet all seems to work fine, but when I try to encrypt… bootloop!
I’ve tried to connect the tablet to the PC to verify if logcat can help, but the device wasn’t detected at all...
At this point I’ve tried some variants (I’m desperate, I know ):
- I did a prudential reboot into CM after flashing it, and before flashing the new kernel.
- I’ve flashed CM, encrypted the tablet (encryption is successful with original CM kernel), and only after encryption I’ve tried to flash the new kernel.
- I’ve tried with: CM 10.1, 10.1.2 and 10.1.3rc2
… but the result is always… bootloop.
Any idea? What am I missing?
EDIT: I've installed a nightly version of CM 10.2, then Dhollmen custom kernel.
Encryption process ended successfully.
As suggested by tuxafgmur, there was some incompatibilities between CM 10.1 and his kernel, that can be solved only upgrading to CM 10.2.

[Q] Bootloop after flashing custom ROM. Fastboot and recovery still working.

Hey, so I just bought a Moto G LTE and got very excited about the amount of dev going on here (coming from an LG Optimus F6 which has almost none). Right way I unlocked the bootloader and rooted. So far so good. Then I flashed TWRP recovery and everything seemed fine. I downloaded the ParanoidAndroid ROM and flashed it, and the phone got stuck in a bootloop (with the PA boot animation). I then went back into recovery, did a reset and flashed BlissPop. Same issue (bootloop is now in the BP boot animation).
So now I'm not sure what to do. I can still get into recovery. I selected factory reset through recovery, and on the top of the screen it says "Factory Reset Complete", but on the log it says "Updating partition details..." and just stays like that. Rebooting just takes me back to the bootloop (still with the BlissPop animation).
Anyone have a clue what could be wrong here? Is there a way to check if there's anything I messed up along the way?
Thanks in advance for any help!

Hello welcome, i think you will like this device.
First off, what exact version is it? the XT1039, XT1040?
Anyway. To flash a custom ROM you will need to:
Go to TWRP. Select Wipe and then Advanced wipe.
Then you check:
Dalvik Cache
Cache
Data
System
Internal Storage
Usually afrer come from Stock KK to any CM12 based or AOSP ROM from android 5.x you will need to wipe Internal Storage, something that factory Reset just wont do.
Then you will flash/install
Your Prefered ROM (Paranoid Android is great, BlissPop as well. I'm using Euphoria, another great ROM)
Flash the GAAPs (preferable the one who the dev of the ROM you have chosen say to)
And done. Reboot your device.

Hey, thanks so much for the reply!
I'm not sure which exact version it is, is there a way to check without having to boot the phone?
I did the advanced wipe, however now when I click reboot it says "No OS Installed! Are you sure you want to reboot?" Now that I wiped the internal storage how do I flash the ROM (it was saved there and is now deleted)?
Thanks again.

You must always put the OS flash zip on a MicroSD card.
How ever you can put the USB cable on the PC at TWRP and it should reconize your phone so you can make a file transfer
YOu have done a nanobackup on a micro SD of your KitKat?
If you can't put the rom on a microSD Card (but i really advise you to do) or your PC wont see your phone on TWRP to copy the ROM there...
There is ADB Push

Good idea to use a microSD, don't know why I didn't think of that. I re-flashed from the SD and now everything works! Thanks so much for your help, really appreciate it!

No problem m8, hope you enjoy the device
On an unrelated note: the one thing I love about my old phone is the stock music app. Is it possible to port it onto this one? I got the APK but when I try to install it it just says "Application not installed". Does this mean it's not possible to use it?

Can't revert back to install normal ROMs after trying to flash Metallic ROM

Please Help
I was in miui ROM then I tried flashing Metallium ROM, after I flashed it, it booted up but, it wasn't restoring my previous apps, so I skip that part, but then when I got to the home screen I wasn't able to access my stuffs in my phone memory.
So I thought maybe I need to change the data to f2fs, so I went to the recovery and did and flashed the Metallic ROM again, but this time it didn't boot at all, there was a bootloop and I could get past the start up screen.
I tried my older ROMs the one that I had, but it's all giving me the same response now, I have switch before but I never have had this problem. Please help, how do I flash other lollipop ROM again.
Maybe changing to f2fs and doing a factory reset. If that doesn't help, flash stock ROM via fastboot.

Yeah that might work but I'm kinda looking for a solution where I don't have to flash the stock again because I lost all my moto g stuffs some months back.
And another thing is that when I flash MIUI its working fine again and I'm able to access all the file in my phone storage also. Any suggestions?
Mmmm if you are using TWRP you could connect the phone to the PC and make a backup while you are in recover mode. Then format again data partition to f2fs and make a factory reset including internal storage and finally flash your ROM and restore your files.
But if that is not working then the only option is flashing Stock ROM
If MIUI is still booting it means that your data partition is still ext4

I want Ivanich's CM12.1 ROM 😞.

Hello.
Recently I returned my HTC Sensation XE arranged, and seeing that it had no guarantee I decided to root it. After two days in which I almost lost the mobile after having bricked, I finally managed to unlock the bootloader (although I'm still S-ON), install the latest version of 4ext Recovery Touch and give root permissions.
What happens is that looking for an Android Lollipop ROM I saw there was only one type of ROMs developed by Ivanich, and others called UnoROMs but at the end also belonged to Ivanich. Both unofficial version of CyanogenMod 12.1.
Overall, I started to download and install CM12.1 ROM with GApps and entering in recovery, but nothing was installed. I deleted cache, dalvik, data and reset to factory, but all attempts were in vain. Or almost.
When I realized that something was wrong, I looked in the ZIP of the ROM, I entered in the "/system" folder and presto!: no sign of apps, data, or other things that I think should be to make it work, only was the 'build.prop'.
Finally I gave up and tried to install Ivanich's CM11 with the corresponding GApps, and everything was great (although WIFI, that is unusable). It turns out that this ROM itself had all the appropriate files in the '/system' folder.
I thought then that Ivanich's CM12.1 ROM would be an update of his CM11 ROM and I tried to install it with CM11 as the system at that time, and I got it, but it starts out a sign saying that I had no data on the phone and to make it work I need to reset to factory. I did it and nothing happened. The recovery remained caught in the process of reseting to factory. And so over and over again. At the end I reinstalled CM11 and tried to repeat the installation process of CM12 this time making an erased of dalvik, data, cache and factory reset (which I not did at the previous), but it didn't installed, and 5.1 GApps either. As usual.
Currently I have CM11 by Ivanich (KitKat 4.4.4) with GApps, but I can't use the phone because WIFI practically doesn't work. There is a ZIP to fix WIFI that I flashed and that was fine, but it didn't fix anything.
Please can someone explain to me why I can't install CM12.1 and 5.1 GApps and why this ROM has the '/system' folder empty. There are people that have been able to install this ROM, and I can't understand how they have succeeded.
Thanks to all who help me in advance.

Can't install Lineage OS properly; device freezes and reboots after startup

Hi people,
I've been struggling with this for the past 2 days and I'm trying really hard not to give up
I downloaded the stable rom from the MIUI website (for Mi Note 3 aka jason), installed it successfully via MiFlash, and tried flashing Lineage after I did a factory + data + system + cache wipe. It ended with me getting the dreaded error 7.
A bit later, I realized I had to get the dev build from the MIUI website and flash it before flashing Lineage OS. So I did - I updated to MIUI 10 using the dev build, made sure it was working and tried flashing Lineage OS on top of it (after wiping the partitions I mentioned earlier, following the Lineage OS instructions).
So eventually I got it to work - sort of.
Lineage OS is booting properly, but the device freezes before it can find any wifi networks to connect to (and then reboots), and that's why I think the culprit is the modem.
So, a few questions -
1. did it happen to anyone else? I searched endlessly but came up with nothing
2. If it is a modem issue - where can I find a working one? I looked it up and found nothing
3. If it isn't a modem issue - what should I do?
If I'm doing anything wrong - please tell me. I'm flashing custom roms since 2011 and this is the first time something like this has happened to me.
Thanks for all your help!
Hi, first of all you need an unencrypted phone - Format data in TWRP (3.2.3.1), then wipe system, data, cache, dalvik. Flash the Miui 10 china stable firmware 10.0.2 or 10.0.4, then rom, gapps and reboot.
Good luck, zaqm
