[Completed] very basic questions about rooting - XDA Assist

Hello,
I am very new to the rooting community, I am above average as a computer user, but mobile programming/rooting is an uncharted territory for me-please forgive the simple nature of this post.
I have a Huawei H892L Raven LTE phone.
I got this phone for cheap, so I didnt mind experimenting with rooting (as a novice) with it because if i bricked it I could just go back to my S4 or note 3.
anyways I have looked all around, looked at other threads, watched videos and most of what I saw was kind of vague. i have grasped the basic concept (i think..) of rooting but some areas are still unclear.
1. I rooted my phone and now I want to make sure I have a backup of it before i proceed with doing much else with it. I have downloaded CWM recovery and some other recovery tools in hope to make a backup of my device. But most of them require premium accounts to make backup from what i can gather.
Using an app called ROM tool box lite > Rom Installer >I see the options to Backup current ROM, Backup Recovery, and Backup Kernel..
Now do I want to make a "backup of my current Rom"? Would this option backup the stock H89RL Raven LTE image that is currently on the phone? or is this feature mean it is used to backup a custom rom that say i downloaded, used on my phone, maybe tweeked a little bit and wanted to back up?"
or when I am backing up my Raven H892L stock image should i use the "Backup recovery" and "backup kernel" options? I used both of these, but I am not sure if those options will suffice as properly and safely giving me reassurance that if i mess up anything i can recover the original format of the phone.
sooo.. what exactly do I need to use and what steps do i need to take to reassure I can play with new root and be able to fix it should i mess up? what file format are proper backups of my phones current settings... .img? and what steps would I take to recovery the old image of the phone?
2. I also need some clarification about SuperUser and SuperSU apps. I used kingoroot and it installed kingo superuser on my phone. Which is the preferred superuser app I should use? if i delete the kingo superuser app will it take away my ability to easily unroot my phone via pc the same way i rooted it? (there is an option on kingoroot when i plug my phone into my computer to unroot) the only reason i kept Kingoroots superuse over superuserSU is because I wanted to make sure I could unroot. what exaclty is the purpose of these apps? to delegate permissions? or is there other uses for them?
3. custom roms- I want to put a custom rom on my phone. i do not see any custom roms for my specific mobile device, (obviously because many people do not have this device, i really didnt expect there to be) Is there, for a lack of better words a "universal," or a custom rom I could use that would be compatible with my device? Are most ROMS used for android not device specific. (Im really sorry if thats a really stupid question.) I dont really understand this. is there a custom rom you would suggest me using?
4. What are some useful tools or cool things that I can do with my newly rooted device? any suggestions? what are your favorite things to do with a rooted device? Am i kind of out of luck because of the specific device I have not being so popular? I'm being a huge newb here but I thought I would give this forum a try.
I really really appreciate you taking the time to read all that if you did!

Hello,
Welcome to XDA.
Ok, first, as far as I know you cannot make a backup without custom recovery. I have searched for a custom recovery for you but I did not find one anywhere in XDA or Google.
You will have to find a custom recovery(CWM or TWRP) for Huawei H892L if it exists anywhere and install it however the guide you find it in says to install it, the method used will depend on what file format your recovery file is, the method also varies from device brand to device brand. Recoveries are very specific things, the recovery for one device brand/model number does not work on another device brand/model number, sometimes recoveries can be shared by devices that are virtually identical in hardware/software but more than most of the time trying a recovery for one device on another results in a bricked device similar to flashing the wrong BIOS on a PC.
As for the superuser, superSU and kinguser, if you have Kinguser I recommend you use the supersume app from the playstore to switch to superSU, it does it for you. If at some point you choose to unroot, there is an option in the superSU app settings that lets you unroot and uninstall superSU and root is completely gone.
Custom ROMs are flashed in custom recovery, for copyright and trademark reasons most custom ROMs have to be flashed along with a compatible Google apps package, referred to as Gapps. They both come in .zip format. The Android version of your ROM and Gapps have to match, 4.4/4.4, 5.0/5.0, 5.1/5.1 etc.. The custom ROMs are also device brand/model specific and also can't be shared. No, there is no "universal" android ROM. You are correct that your device is not popular so you most likely won't find anything as far as custom ROMs and recoveries. You would have been better off rooting and customizing your S4(depending on your model number) or your Note 3, there is plenty available and they are actually much easier devices to work with, I love my Samsung devices, they are easily rooted and usually easy to fix if a modification goes wrong, the device you have will easily get messed up and would likely be almost impossible to fix.
Root gives you control over everything about the device, you can modify any and every part of your systems software to look and function how you choose it to do, you can even modify the apps you install or even add features that it didn't have before as long as your hardware supports it, for example my Straight talk S3 supports Hotspot and tether even though it didn't come with it, and that's just the least of the mods my device has.
For more answers to your questions you can post in the thread linked below, there are many knowledgeable members in that thread, including myself.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2257421
Good luck in your journey, if you choose to customize one of your Samsung devices(which i personally recommend for someone new to this because they are easy to repair), they are virtually impossible to brick beyond repair unless you just completely lose your head and use something meant for another device and 95% of the time even that is fixable.

thank you so

I really appreciate you taking the time to reply to my questions, and so thoroughly too! And that sounds like a good idea, I am going to just root my S4 and use that for a beginners root device. Nice to know it will be hard to mess that up. so i will download supersume and switch over to superSU automatically.. I also have straight talk, is it really possible to make my s4 a hotspot?? i heard something about that, but also heard something about straight talk being fussy about it? is there a way they would even know, by analyzing data intake maybe? idk where i heard that from. but Anyways. thanks for all the info. I think I will stick around in these forums and gather information and maybe ask for help if I need it.
Have a good night

As long as your S4 doesn't have a locked bootloader you should be fine, if its locked then you'll likely brick it trying anything, post me your model numbers for both the S4 and the Note 3 and I'll see what is out there before you do anything.

The note is in my storage two hours away. it also has a crack on the screen so will hold off on that.
But the s4 model number is SCH-I545

Yeah, the i545 is one that is a pain, what firmware version does it have? Is it easy to get to? If it's one of the versions with locked bootloader you can root it possibly but custom recovery and custom ROMs is absolutely out of the question. With locked bootloader you'll be stuck with using Safestrap and modified stock ROMs.

Android version 5.0.2
Secure boot status says type; samsung
How exactly do you check the firmware, I was under the impression that is was Android version.

I also have a Motorola droid razr Android version 4.1.2 may be worth considering. I'll do some investigating on whether I can root it. Thanks for conversing with me, I am starting my second degree in the spring. I will be taking computer programming, and i Can't wait to get to the mobile side of the curriculum. Hopefully I will be ahead of the game by then XD

Are you sure this isn't 5.0.1? i'm finding i545 root for 5.0.1 but no 5.0.2.
The thread below is root for 5.0.2
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4-verizon/general/rooted-galaxy-s4-t3158098
you"ll have to ask about the bootloader and whether or not you have to use custom recovery(CWM, TWRP) or Safestrap in the i545 forum linked below.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4-verizon/help
Be careful, I have tried to repair an i545 that had been flashed with TWRP over the locked bootloader, there is no saving it if this is done, be certain of what you have before you do anything, either way isn't too difficult you just have to be sure of which way you have to go.
Exactly which razr model number do you have?

It is 5.0.1 my fault! I was looking right at it too. So the secure boot status=Samsung means the boot loader is definately locked?
On The Razr i have I can't read the model number its scratched on the back..any way to tell via the settings? Maybe xt912? Its not the RAZR max...idk I can't make it out. In the settings it says
Mod number= Droid Razr
Android version = 4.1.2
Baseband version CDMA_N_05.21.00RLTEDC_U_09_.1D.00
Build number 9.8.20-72_VZW-16
Sorry for the questions.
I think this phone is rootable. Def needs a new screen. BTW I'm in NC too. Kitty Hawk NC on the beach

correction it is 5.0.1
okay MOTXT912W is the model number. i just ordered a replacement screen for it, maybe ill make this badboy my new phone if a root is possible.
Im stressed out thinking about my note 3.. i really hope its in storage, the more i think about it the more I wonder if it got thrown out by my gf bc the screen was trashed.
sure hope not i miss that thing. but im going back to my storage unit maybe this week ill rummage through and see if i can find it.
surely one of my many phones can accept custom roms!

The ordered a new digitizer\glass\blackframe and an eb20 battery too for the xt912 Razr.. But I'm thinking about doing the RAZR maxx conversion and putting an Eb40 battery on it. I know someone named wando Did it on these forums, exciting stuff.

Basically taking the RAZR Maxx battery (3300 mAh, eb40) and replacing the regular RAZR xt912 battery (1900 mAh eb20) with it. Making it essentially a RAZR max

Are there any devs working on the Samsung Galaxy Stellar?

I keep searching trying to find stuff. I found a thread on another forum that led me to getting root. I know patience is a virtue, and all, but I should would like to see some work on roms, and recoveries, and for there to actually be a section on XDA for this device.
Yeah I accidentally tried to flash a bootloader from the "Verizon-GS3-CASUAL-Revision131a" java program. I lost my backups in the process so can anyone give me a hand with a backup from thier Stellar?
Hey I actually found the open-source kernel and platform for the Stellar at Samsung's Open Souce site.
Would that help me any?
Idk, I unfortunately don't know much about the development side of things. I rely on the devs here for that stuff. I'm to afraid to mess something up to flash something that someone else hasn't said that it works. I used to do that with my Captivate, but I need this phone to work, and not stuck in infinite bootloop

You wouldn't happen to have a backup by any chance?
I don't know what recovery to use, or how to flash it. If I had that I could make a backup, and upload it

If you got ClockworkMod recovery onto your phone (as I saw you got it rooted) you may be able to give me a zip and I think I can make it into a .tar file so Odin will read it since Odin mode is the only mode my phone will get into right now.
I'll keep looking around for some other methods of backup...I also heard Titanium Backup wasn't too bad...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1491157
This link is a place where I found the possibility of using a CWM .zip file for Odin.
I am rooted, but have not installed a recovery. I am not sure which one to flash, or how to flash it
Sent from my SCH-I200 using xda premium
Hmm...you bring up a good point. It's best I not ask you to put in a new recovery mode since we don't know what exactly that will do to the Stellar. I will say that before I bricked the phone I actually did make it work...barely so lets not do that.
Can you try using some programs that access the phone through the computer?
Google this: Index of /romdump
You should find a little program calle Romdump. It should extract the roms without messing anything up.
Do you know about ADB? If not I do have enough experience to help you with that.
You need to have a clockwork mod recovery that is built for this phone, or whatever phone you are using, in order to get it to flash. Without a custom recovery for the galaxy stellar, or at least a recovery that is sure to work for this phone (I think I heard about some S3 stuff that works for the stellar, like the root method I think you used) the recovery will not flash and your phone will not load until you reflash the stock recovery.
Do not flash any recoveries until you know they work for your phone (i.e. someone has tested them), or without a backup of your stock recovery.
Since you are both saying you're not devs and don't really know what you're doing (neither do I really) I would suggest not flashing any recoveries that have not been confirmed to work for the stellar. Yes, many people use CWM and TWRP but there is a custom build of those recoveries for every phone, they are not universal.
I'm really interested in this phone so I'm hoping some development starts. Without community support and development I don't think I would bother switching to Verizon to get this phone even though its free. I hate cell phone contracts...
Not to be rude, but you wouldn't happen to have a rooted Galaxy Stellar on hand?
I also found something else that may help bring the phones back:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=960946
UPDATE: If anyone can use this on their phones I would be very grateful:
This link shows how to use romdump to get the stock firmware.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1771347
I thought there would be a lot more people like me who needed a new phone, didn't really have money for an upgrade, so they went with this phone like I did. Doesn't really seem like it has gained much interest in the dev community. It still doesn't have it's own subforum on here. I am starting to really regret getting this phone. Half the fun of having android for me was the dev, and community support for the devices I had in the past. I had the galaxy s, and the inspire 4g, both of which had really big communities, and they started pretty much right at the release for those phones.

STOCK ROM!
HEY guys I rooted my phone already. Things were going great, until i decided to download some kind of font switch. I guess it is required for the phone to be root. Then it asked me to restart my phone, that's when my phone froze on the samsung logo screen . It' stuck there ever since. I did a factory reset, and that didn't work either. So i downloaded ODIN and im waiting for a STOCK rom! can anybody help me with that and PM me?It would be great THANKS!
Anyone have an idea on how to back up the stock rom? I haven't seen anyone who has successfully done it with this phone yet

Sovereign738111 and I worked on this yesterday and got the recovery, system, and bootloader images off of my phone and into a couple of files. Now we just need a developer to give them to...In the meantime I'm also reading up on how to build a custom ROM etc. so that I can get familiarized with it. That way I can possibly try it myself. I know how to compile my own regular Linux kernel and add packages and things of that nature, and looking at what I've seen so far, figuring this out for Android shouldn't be too difficult.
I don't have the Stellar but I would be willing to work on a ROM for you guys. If someone would give me the files I need, I'll gladly do it. Just need a couple of people to test also.

[Q] Development for LG-LS860

I have a LG Mach (AKA Cayenne, LS860) LG Apparently algo named the LU3000 "Mach" as well for w/e reason. There is a distinct lack of ANYbody developing for this phone. I would like to take on doing it myself, but I am unclear on how to start. I managed after about a week to root the stock rom, but I can't find any recoveries for it. How should I go about this?
I understand that this is a very in depth question and for most, it would be too much to tackle. However, I have a background in C++ and Visual Basic (though I am a little rusty). Any direction would be nice and I am willing and capable of learning anything necessary to accomplish this.
Thanks!
Well this is a combination of bump / information. Since there is a lack of information regarding this phone out here, I figured I would share the method I used to root this phone. It works on the stock 4.0.4 rom.

I was thinking about compiling TWRP for this phone myself, but I would like input from everyone if CWM would be a better choice? Input welcome

I just won this phone, and I'm putting the term LG MACH ROOT/LG MACH BOOTLOADER in this thread so people can find it via google.
There is pretty much no developer love for this phone...
I don't care which way you do it. Personally I prefer TWRP because of it's touch controls.

Well, it looks like its up to me and you:
Im going to compile TWRP tonight for it, and if all goes well, I will create a new thread with the rooting method and recovery explained. However, know that you will officially be person #2 to use this recovery image. All warnings and potential problems will apply.
Up for some fun?
I haven't got the phone yet actually. Briefmobile informed that I won and that sprint will ship it. I don't know anything more than that :/ I hope soon. It'd be fun to mess with the phone while my college break is going on still.
Sorry about the really slow replies. I should subscribe so that tapatalk notifies me.
I don't know when it will get here :/
But since you have it, do you know if the bootloader is unlocked/unlockable? Google is surprisingly of little use with this phone. I'd love to dink around with this phone since it's not my primary one (and I can't use cellular services on it)

All good, it takes time to develop these things anyways. I should have a stable TWRP build within a few days, and a CyanogenMod 10.1 (Android 4.2) build complete in the next couple of weeks.
The bootloader is something I am going to tackle tonight. As you can tell, there is zero documentation on the web for this device. In fact, it received more attention when it was a concept than it does now. So for now, I have no answer on the bootloader. I hope so, or all my work is useless lol. However, root is obtained at a bare minimum
Anyone out there that comes across this thread that wants to find information on modding this phone, PLEASE post your interest here. Trust me, you won't find any other resources.
lg locked bootloaders
I have the lg motion, I don't know how close it is to the mach but I've been following a thread for several months that has been trying to figure out a workaround for the locked boot loader. Google all things root guide for lg motion and you might be able to find a decent starting point for your phones maybe even help them figure out the motion
Ok, well I think, for now at least, root is all we are getting . I have managed to develop and compile ClockworkMod Recovery TeamWin Recovery, and Cyanogenmod 10.1 for it, but realized after all that work that the bootloader is not only locked, but also signed with a digitally encrypted key. Basically in laymans terms: We are ****ed. So, if anybody manages to shmooze either Sprint or LG out of these unlock codes, let me know and I'll provide everything else. Otherwise, anything I have made will brick every LS860 it goes on. Sorry guys.

Thats correct. At least from my understanding. I could be wrong, but without the ability to unlock the bootloader i dont want to try flashing recovery. Too risky for me. Ill give anyone who wants to try my twrp build but i wont accept any repercussion for it doing anythin negative
Give me your twrp build then
I just rooted it. Was super easy.
Tried adb reboot bootloader. Did nothing. Tried adb reboot recovery. Recovered the device. Can't seem to figure out a way to have it download software. (like nvflash) Wonder if there's a special cable...

But then I guess you have to convert that to a kdz file. Then decrypt the kdz file. Well it appears you need to be an LG Service tech to use the program. But then I guess you have to convert that to a kdz file. Then decrypt the kdz file. Well it appears you need to be an LG Service tech to use the program. Was hoping there was work around for all this,

I rooted it, it was easy using the sony tool that does the adb backup remount bug, but that's as far as I got. I uninstalled a bunch of crap off of the system partition and its a lot faster now, too bad I can't get that activation screen to go away.
Just pulled the newest OTA. I found it in /cache. I tried to get the URL but instead I made it so it no longer sees there's an update... I have the zip file however, and inside of it there is patches to just about everything in system, and updates to magazines, chrome, and LGBookmarksProvider.
There's also a command to install a recovery image:
#!/system/bin/sh
/sbin/write_recovery /dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/recovery
Not sure if it's a good idea to flash that... forgot that it's still locked bootloader
EDIT: Finally figured out download mode... I just held all the buttons down when starting it and voila, it's there. I also hear you can use the LG Software update tool to flash back to stock, so we might finally have root that's safe
Does anyone have the BooksTablet.apk found in /system/app? I'm not sure why but it won't install the update cause the sha1 of that file fails I don't know where to find it.
Dont let this thread die! I noticed there was no dedicated forum for the LS860 development, I really enjoy this phone and would love some level of development for it. I can help as much as I am able.

Can someone rip me their BooksTablet.apk and BooksTablet.odex from their LS860 and PM me a link to it? I really am pissed off at the update prompt (I'm not sure why it's not working, I haven't touched it and I made sure I backed everything up... It won't validate BooksTablet.apk) I'm on the stock original version of the software ZV6 or something... not the ZV7.
I really don't want to go into sprint that much, though I might have to do that soon.
Edit: Just called sprint. They won't do anything for me and I'm not going to pay money for someone to reflash my phone. It's pretty ridiculous how factory images for devices aren't released. You know how many issues this would solve? That's why nexus devices are great. They're practically unbrickable.
Hey guys, try posting the mach in here so maybe it can get a forum for it.... And possibly some development.

Hi, I have LG Mach (LG LS860) - the Root MANY ANDROID! [Upd: 17.04.2013] Sony method worked with software version ZV6, but I have purchased a new LG Mach with ROM version ZV7 (an update from Feb 20) - and this method runs but does not result in root - how can I roll this software version back or else get root in an alternative manner? - please help!

Rooting problem

Hi folks,
There was this wonderful guide on how to root a phone. Well, I'm stupid. I admit it.
I have NO idea what flashing means or what ROMing does...
regardless, my sole aim & purpose here was to figure out a way HOW to get my phone in a state, where i can delete ANY APPLICATION tmobile puts on my bloody phone that i don't want or need. much like getting a new HP laptop...i buy my own OS and delete everything and start from scratch...
so first i got my unlock code from tmobile...so my phone is unlocked...but i still can't delete any app
so guy next to me who i know and writes apps for android says i should root my phone
well i think i'm rooted...but can't confirm...
regardless, going through this process of rooting...it cleared out phone contents...which i knew it would...you know SD data, sim card data...photos, etc etc...
lol...well now i forgot what gmail ID i used to store all my phone contacts that sucks for me...
So HOW do i get my phone to a state where i can delete anything i want on my phone?!! Thx
Unlock bootloader, flash recovery e.g twrp (v 2.3.3 recommended, higher versions have problems) flash super user then download system tuner and delete the bloat or stuff u don't want under system tab

This guide makes it pretty easy.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=24478083
Follow the steps to unlock bootloader, get a new recovery, and a custom Rom.
Customs Roms don't come with all that tmobile bloat. If you like Sense, try Viper One S.
Goodluck and enjoy the wonderful world of xda.

I don't know what a ROM is
But yes, I don't like ANY of the Tmobile bloated software...my INTENTION is to delete all the apps it puts on and just put my own on.
I also don't know what new recovery means.
I'm a guy that pretty much has used Win7 for ages & ages..this is my "realistically" first smartphone, because the "actual 1st" had a broken screen and didn't play with it much. All of this Android stuff is pretty new.
So yeah, I just like clean slates...I pretty much just want my phone to play the music I add on it, my Pandora & watch a few TV shows that I add to the phone via USB from my PC.
As a side question, is it OKAY to ask about "cracked" apps...meaning finding apps that are free but are normally billable..thanks.
Earlier this morning I did go to one of the threads here to start "rooting" but I don't know if I'm done or not...how do I know?
get to know xda, not just these threads--ck out the wiki
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/Main_Page
i read and searched everything when i started
you cannot discuss cracked apps as the are illegal
if you are rooted you can dl and use apps like titanium backup and root explorer from market
all this takes time but effort like everything else we do
enjoy the advantages of being rooted
and once you are make a backup (nandroid) asap and a copy of your sdcard. put both on pc also

[Q] Removing unistallable apps from stock ROM?

Hi
My Verizon S3 (SCH-i535) has been off contract for a few months now. I'm considering buying a new phone, but I think the S3 is still a pretty good phone. However, I would really like to customize it a little if I'm going to keep it.
It has the latest OTA update (4.4.2), so I understand I can't load custom ROM's. But I can root it if I'm not mistaken. If that's right what I would like to do it remove some of the apps that I don't want or have no need for, but aren't uninstallable.
So, my questions are, does root let me do this? If so, is it fairly straight forward to do? And, how do I find out what is safe to remove and what will break my phone?
I'm at the point where if I can't 'make it my own' (short of a custom ROM) I'm going to by an unlocked phone. Which hopefully will give me more control than this one .
Thanks,
Jon
Yes, you can remove "unremovable" apps with root. Use Titanium Backup or a file explorer with root access. You just need to be careful that you don't remove something critical for the phone to operate. I would highly recommend installing the unofficial Safestrap for our bootloader locked phones and make a backup of the rom before you remove anything.

Thanks. I had been planning on putting a few examples in the original post as examples. But when I went in the settings and looked at all the apps again (haven't poked around in there in a while) there were dozens. I couldn't decide which to list . So I guess I will have to be careful I don't go overboard.
I'm still trying to understand what Safestrap is, or does (although I did read some of the description). It sounds like even though we can't unlock the bootloader, and therefor replace the factory ROM, we can get the device to boot an alternate ROM stored on the SD card. I keep wondering if I have this right, it sounds a little odd. Or maybe not, I can't decide.

Yeah, safestrap will let you run another rom, but it has to be based off of the stock 4.4.2 rom. I think there are 2 or 3. And the second rom will use the internal phone storage. So if you have the 16gb phone like I do, 2 roms don't leave much space. I just use safestrap as a custom recovery to make backups in case I screw something up and to flash a few things. I just use the stock rom and don't put a second one on. As far as what is safe to remove, if you find one you aren't sure of just Google it and you should be able to find out. There are several lists floating around. I usually disable them with titanium backup and leave them there, although a did remove a few so I could add some other apps to the system. They can't run when disabled so they aren't using ram or battery. If it has the android guy beside it, it is probably important! I think I have all the Samsung stuff and most of the Verizon disabled.

Cricket(SM-G360AZ) Galaxy Core Development

I see posts for every other carrier model but Cricket.
Can anybody make some pre-rooted Roms and a recovery for this model? I'm also here to learn if anyone has time to teach.
I'm currently on G360AZTUU3AOH1 and don't want to attempt to flash other versions(Like G360H or G360P) and brick my device as this is my only phone at the moment.
I'm rooted now, but would like to get an upgrade as there's tons of app crashes on the current version.
How did you root? Was it just an app like Kingroot? I'm looking to get root but I'm afraid of bricking my phone after all the horror stories I read.
Latest version of Kingoroot works on this phone and I feel that the kingroot apk would work but I didn't try it yet and had trouble with the windows version of Kingroot.
It amazes me how there is alot of work done on the G360H yet hardly any on the G360AZ. With alot of people using coreprimelte references it is making it difficult to secure good leads on ways to work on this phone as it is rather special I guess.
I hope someone can follow up on a recovery and rom compatibility info. Bought this phone as a cheap play-a-round phone only to find there isn't much I can do with it atm.
I did manage to get a Nandroid backup of the phone to my pc. Working on doing some tests to make sure it can be made into a Odin file. If so I plan to get it posted.
I agree, I want to try Kingroot but don't want to eff up the phone for fear of not fixing it
