[Completed] Is this damage critical ? - XDA Assist

a few months ago i dropped my moto g in my toilet i immediately took out the sim card and left it to dry(w/o rice which i regret) it got stuck in a boot loop so i sent it to Motorola and they said it needed a new motherboard
Today for fun i charged it and turned it on and to my surprise it wasn't stuck in a boot loop and came back on and fully worked for a few hours i restarted it because it was acting wired and now it is again stuck in the boot loop

Hello,
Welcome to XDA.
If you had asked this at the time it happened I probably would have said it was damaged as well. BUT!....
Since you say it booted fully and was functional it could very well be just fine, try taking the back cover off, remove the battery and find a video on YouTube that shows how to disassemble your device, you don't need to completely disassemble it, just at least get the casing opened so that when you put it in a bag of rice the casing will be able to completely dry out. I think you have a good chance that it is perfectly fine it may just still have moisture trapped inside that hasn't/can't dry out with the casing sealed.
If it doesn't work or if you harm it when you disassemble it then you won't really have lost anything, you'd just be where you are now already, but if it works then you've still got a working device. I say you've got nothing to lose so it's worth trying either way.
I hope this helps you.

Post Water Damage Recovery, Now Bricked

excuse me for the very long title. I being the brilliant human being that i am went into a pool on the day of our independence with my beautiful HOX in my pocket. i sat there for about 5 min, totally sober mind you, then realized what an ass i was. i immediately went inside, shut it off and placed in rice. the next day i turn it on to see if it works and indeed it does. The only visible problem was water under the screen though the screen worked fine. i turned it back off and put it back in rice so as to give the rice ample time to perform its magic. 3 days later i check again and it still works. i decided to switch back to the HOX and things were great. 2 days later however it would randomly shut off and take AT LEAST 30 min before it would turn back on. at the end of the day i took out the sim and threw it back in rice. the next day it wouldnt turn on and thats the way its been ever since. no light when charging ether. ive left it in rice for the past 3 weeks checking every once in awhile but to no avail.
so i know that water damage is the culprit as is my stupidity however im asking to see if there is anything that anyone can think of that might revive my phone? perhaps a batter replacement? or screen replacement? or find out what i shorted? ive taken it apart a little but have held back out of fear of being unable to put back together my already broken phone lol
any help is appreciated. Thank You

Sorry about you phone. Being an electronic technician, I would say you unfortunately made a fatal mistake by turning the phone on before it was totally dry inside. Almost anything on the circuit boards inside could have shorted or partially shorted while wet. I don't think anyone could guess as to what component is bad now without swapping in known good parts. It might have been damaged considerably before you got the chance to turn it off after the soaking, and there's nothing you could have done after that point, although it seemed to OK for a short time. I'm sorry that I can't recommend any further remedies.

alright i assumed as much but thank you for the help. i feel like i can finally let go off my HOX
Take it apart and sell for parts. The digitalizer probably works fine.

You really have to take it apart before putting it in the rice. These things are sealed up pretty good these days.
Might just be the battery. If water got in the pack, it would behave as you described from internal shorting.
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
Open it
At this point, you have nothing to lose by opening it up and drying it out for a week or 2. At least you'll get out any remaining moisture. You may just get lucky.
Also if there is corrosion, use 99% alcohol to remove it.

[Q] LG G2 Dropped in Toilet. HELP!!!!!!!!

Hello guys, I am new to this whole website and only made it to ask this one question. So I accidentally dropped my new LG G2 in the toilet and want to know what I can do to NOT have to ask for ANOTHER replacement. Before I say the details, I just want you guys to know I DO NOT want my folks to get me a new replacement for my LG G2. They already paid for the one I broke just a week ago.
Some details of what happened are:
- I didn't drop my phone all the way in to the toilet. As soon as I see it fall, I tugged on my earphone wires to pull it up.
-Only the top half got wet.
-I tested to see if anything even happened and it seemed fine for about 1 min.
- I then restarted it.
- (I KNOW THIS WAS A STUPID THING TO DO) But everything seemed fine so I watched 21 Jumpstreet
- While watching for about 5 min, The screen started glitching out
- I turned the screen off then on again but the LCD was not working and was just black. Everything else worked fine except for the fact I couldnt see any of it
- I then turned it off and took off the back
- It is now in a bag of rice
PLEASE HELP ! I really need my phone not to break. I've read like 2 other post where the same thing happened to the same phone but they actually dropped the whole thing in the toilet. According to what they said, It worked fine after they let it dry.
It's always best to remove the battery-- resize that's probably not an option for you. Let it dry completely before you do any more "testing" the water inside is connecting areas of the circuitry that shouldn't be connected. You risk shorting out a great number of components if you haven't already. You can also place the phone/rice on top of a refrigerator, they pull moisture out of the surrounding air.

[Q] Water Damaged LG G2 Works But Won't Show Image On Screen

So like the title suggests, I have a water damaged LG G2 that won't fully work. A little back-story, I went swimming one day at the pool and while I was swimming I totally forgot my phone was still in my pocket. I was only in the water for a few minutes and realized my mistake so I quickly drove home and disassembled it. I immediately soaked it in rice for a few days but unfortunately its fried so I decided to do some tests to see if i could fix it myself. I played with it for a while, scrubbed off the corrosion, replaced the battery and the phone works now but the screen wont display an image. I put in another replacement screen but to no avail so I'm assuming it has something to do with the logic board although I'm not for sure. If anyone could shed some light on what might be the problem or help me with a solution it would be greatly appreciated :good:
thanks

Well, you seem to have already done the things I would have suggested. If you've already dropped in a replacement glass/digitizer/LCD assembly and it still isn't working, then I got nothing. I'd send it in to someone to have it fixed or get a new phone. That said, I was actually replacing that assembly myself this weekend after being dumb/inebriated and having my phone fall out of my pocket, cracking the glass and digitizer. One thing I noticed that I didn't expect is that even if everything is completely assembled, if you take off the back cover and turn the phone on, the phone will boot up and respond to touch, but the screen will not turn on. Looking more closely at the back cover, there are a few contacts on there so apparently you have to have the cover on for the screen to work. You could double check to see if there might still be some corrosion on the back cover on those contacts. That's about all I got though.

Few drops of water

Hi All,
Last night few drops of water dropped on my one mini and it started getting stuck and asking me to send report.
It gets stuck from time and then I have to restart it. Also the phone restarts by itself.
There was not more than few drops of water but as I use a case, the water remained in the case for an hour lets say. The lens on the back camera was also blurred a bit but today its gone. What worries me is that the plastic bezzel has cracks ( known problem for the mini I think) and I assume some water might have went inside the phone.
Is it possible that this is causing the phone to freeze and restart and such things or not? It was working flawlesly up till last night.
I've just placed it in a bag of rice hoping to remove all water inside.
Really need your advise.
Thanks

Can you please share some advice?
Is it possible that the phone gets stuck closes apps, asks me to send reports because of the humidity inside?
Sadly yes, it is possible to be producing errors due to the humidity.
It might be temporary ( stop once every single bit of humidity/water is out ) or permanent ( stay like that forever ).
Leave it dipped in rice for another 24 hours, and try again.
If it continues giving you errors, backup your data, and install a new ROM afresh ( clean install a ROM ) and see if it works ok.

Thanks a lot for your advice.
I left it again for allmost 12 h in rice but its the same I'm afraid.
I'll give it a shot with installing a new/stock rom.
Damn, it was just few drops .... unbelieveable.
No success so far.
I've left it at repair shop but the guy is not able to instal any rom.
Its just stuck at HTC logo and doesnt want to boot up now.
The strange thing is that I can go into recovery, go up and down the menu no probelm, and it never shuts down and restarts when in recovery but it doesnt want to boot up.
Guy in the shop says that it perhaps has some corrosion and this causes the problem. Due to the plastic lines cracks he doesnt want to open the phone and try to clean it. He says if he tries to open the plastic frame will break totaly.
Any solution or I should just give up??? Really desperate here
I just finished repairing a one mini with cracks on every side. It was a pita but it can be done without damaging the frame. I had to into it 3 times for various reasons, and it did not damage the frame. I think the guy at the repair shop just doesn't want to bother with it, and I'd take it (and my money) elsewhere.
I managed to open it as well without damaging the frame. It comes of fairly easily. A nice tutorial here

Now to the repaire shot for the guy to check if this one can be saved.

Help Water Damaged S7 Stuck in Bootloop

Hi guys,
Hoping someone has an idea of what I can do or if I am out of luck.
Just got back from my honeymoon and my wife dropped her phone into the pool.
After she took it out it bootlooped until it died. I could not turn it off or any button combination to stop it.
After it died nothing would happen if I tried to turn it on or charge it. I tried the whole rice thing for coupe days and I am now in a situation where the phone only reacts when it is plugged into laptop or charger. However it only bootloops through the very first screen repeatedly. I tried getting into recovery but all that happened was recovery booting... in blue and now that bootloops. It seems I cannot get any further.
I have insurance and already received her new phone. Biggest issue is honeymoon photos that are on there that are not backed up. Are there any options that involve or don't involve payment (not important as photos are priceless) that I can do?
Please, any suggestions are highly appreciated.
Thanks.

Hi mate
If is not possible to get into recovery or download I think is going to be difficult to access the internal memory...
did you try to dry it out with something stronger like....
https://www.walmart.com/ip/DampRid-Hanging-Moisture-Absorber-3ct/15033113
maybe is still wet inside
I agree, a couple of days in rice for what is (almost in your case) a sealed waterproof phone likely is not enough time to dry it out
Problem being, you can not disconnect the battery, so damage can occur with the shorting of circuits if power is still getting to them
Considering you now know it is not waterproof anyway, I would remove the back, remove the battery, and leave it to dry out for another few days, somewhere warm
Remove S7 battery
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u1naej9BnfM
Washing it with Isopropyl Alcohol is another method to remove water residue (This is what causes the problem mainly, the leftover residue stuck to the circuits inside the phone shorting them out)
If the people begins to thinking in deny buying unremovable bateries devices...
