Google Now not speaking many basic answers - Moto G 2015 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, My google now stopped speaking some answers like what's the temperature, do i need an umbrella, whats the time, what is 1 usd in gbp
I downloaded 4 apps and played a video and turned the video volume down and this happened.
I deleted the apps, full media volume now, still the same error.
I deleted the google search, google now and reinstalled.
I deleted all history pressed retrain google now.
I checked Speech Output on.
Nothing has helped, it is still not working for basic commands, it is responding for things like add reminder, etc.
It is also showing a different search result for temperature and not saying anything.
I found that when I disable or switch off Web & App Activity section of Activity controls, it works to some extent but still not speaking, but why, I even deleted everything but if its on google now won't respond to basic things. Please help.
support.google.com/websearch/answer/465
I also learnt that when it on, all my search pages end with "You're seeing a basic version of this page optimised for your connection speed. Switch to standard version"
But when Web & App Activity is off it doesn't show this and works fine and speaks, there is no problem with my connection.
Android Version Number 5.1.1
Device Model moto g 3 xt1550
Google App Version Number 5.4.28.19.arm
Language used with "Ok Google" english us
Please help and reply, wasted hours trying to correct this. I really appreciate any help.

Thanks for your reply, I have already tried that still nothing.
Is there a way to force google search to all search pages to standard version and not basic version of this page optimised for my connection speed, without Web & App Activity off, as it doesn't show this and works fine and speaks when its off, also there is no problem with my connection.
Anyone else has any help to offer?

Did you clear the data and cache of the gnow. Do that it may work for you.

HTC Sensation 4G crashing randonly [logcat log attached]

First of all, let me tell you, I have tried all the available solutions posted on this forum, including:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1622683
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1610232
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1622683
But none of the solutions works, I have even tried using different ROMS (Stock ROM, CM7, and currently running ARHD for TMOUS 1.2)
I have already tried factory reset, clearing dalvik cache, battery stats using super wipe script.
Basically, My problem description is same as described in the above links,
"my phone would randomly turn off, sometimes it would be while in the middle of a phone call, and sometimes while playing a game. After it would turn off, sometimes it would automatically turn back on and sometimes I would have to hit the power button to turn it back on"
It crashes randomly, (but I am thinking it's not so random, I am thinking it crashes when I try to use any app that uses GPS like Google maps, facebook (checkin), camera(for geo-tagging a photo), etc. So I tried to reproduce this while logging using adb logcat and voila, it happens every time i use google maps for more than half a minute.
I have attached logcat output file, I tried to analyse it a little, but I am no expert in it,
So If someone can have a look at it, it would be really great. Let me know if you need any more details of the ROM/FW/KERNEL/anything else.
I disconnected the phone from PC as soon as it showed white screen with HTC logo, so that you will have a reference point to know when restart actually happened.

Heyyy you are not alone !!!
it seems like i have the exact problem
after i updated maps to the latest version
Whenever i use Maps the phone crashes after sometime and restarts !
I ve been using CM9 and I never had this problem before
If someone knows please help us !
Same here guys, updated Google Maps and when in Google Maps phone crashes! Any solutions anybody?
if it is crashing due to google maps then the problem is indeed because of latest update of google maps (6.10.0) just revert back to the previous version of it ...there is a thread for this check it
EDIT: thread here
Found this on T-Mobile website
http://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-4703
It says,
Symptoms
When using maps or navigation, device crashes or restarts
What happens and why
The newest version of Google Maps currently causes a conflict with the HTC Sensation 4G, which can result in the device software crashing, freezing, or restarting while using Maps or Navigation.

So, the solutions is to rollback to Google maps 6.3.0
If you had installed an update from google play, then you can uninstall that update by Settings->APPS->Maps->uninstall updates.
But, if you are using custom ROM like me, (i'm using ARHD latest ROM), you have to download and install the APK,
And here's where you can get the APK to install this version of google maps
http://www.iapktop.com/google-maps-6-3-0.html
You can find out more information and latest update on this issue on google groups, this issue has been identified by google and currently working on a fix:

Are your location settings set to high accuracy? Google now does not work to it's full potential if it cannot access your information (go figure). All the anonymous data it collects about your location, email, and so on will be compiled into useful stuff for Google now..
Google Now Issue?
Yes Location is on High Accuracy and the problem is still there.Work on this issue, you must fix it i posted several times until now and also tried so many solutions but nothings works.Sometimes cards are there and sometimes are not.It says not available.

Not Available simply means that "There are no other cards worth displaying at this time". As far as the appearance (or absence) of cards in general, when you first install the app it takes it two or three weeks to start presenting useful information. Afterward, depending on changes to your system and habits, there will be a slight delay. Just go about your business and you'll start seeing more and more cards pertinent to your activities.

GPS locating every time you use google voice typing. (microphone button) Solution

Hi all,
I use a Galaxy S3 T999 and across several different 4.3 ROM's, I've found that since about a month ago, every time I hit the microphone key on the keyboard to voice type, the GPS icon will display for about 4 seconds. I don't know why this is necessary, any input?
So, if this bothers you (privacy, battery life?) here's the solution I found:
First, trying to control location permissions for this will block all location access otherwise. You must disable location permissions for Google framework which will also stop location from working in maps, etc.
The solution I found is to uninstall the update to the "Google Search" app, and check the box to stop it from auto-updating. I see zero performance impact or functionality loss, and no loss of accuracy in voice typing, for my purposes (I don't use the Google Search app or Google Now). The voice typing process uses about 10% less cpu while it is listening to your voice too.
The Google Search app, as far as I know, provides the functions of Google Now. Using an old version means you'll be missing some cards and perhaps some other functions. Since I personally don't use Google Now, this solution works for me and hopefully for someone else.
Questions:
Does your gps icon blink for a bit every time you hit the microphone key (on the keyboard) to voice type? I found not every device is doing this.
Why?
It worked - Thank you!
Thanks a ton! Your fix worked, this location stuff was bothering me. Looks like not many are bothered by the GPS locating happening everytime the Google Voice Typing is opened or is it just a few phones plagued. I am on a Galaxy S3 (i9300) running CM10.2.
This seems to be a T999 issue

[Q] Lollipop: No Voice Search, Ok Goodle, TTS..

Interesting one, and can't figure out why it's happening - so if anyone has any thoughts x)
Flashed L tonight, all went smoothly and generally everything is fine. The only weird thing is that Google Voice search has stopped working. I press the Voice search button, and it just doesn't pick up any sound. I trying saying "ok google", and it doesn't pick that up either. Also, along with that, Text to Speech refuses to work too, tried with different languages and different voice packs.
Any ideas?
I know I had to go into the Google Now settings and activate the "OK Google" from any screen, to get it to work.
I had the same problem when setting another language as the primary language, then switching back to English, but something seemed bugged.
Removing all the other languages and restoring English (US) only, and finally rebooting, resolved the issue. Hope this helps.

Hmm, just gave that a try, no dice Was it just the Voice language or the whole phone that you had to change?
The weird thing is, it's like it's not even connecting to the microphone, just sits there listening and not hearing anything x)
Yes, that was exactly the same behavior i had with mine. I also ended up trying to configure Ok Google from any screen, and the voice training feature didn't hear anything, remaining stuck on the 1st of 3 verifications.
Maybe you can try going to Settings > App > All > Google Search and deleting cache/data to restore it brand new.

Tried that, and reflashing it, factory reset etc. Turns out the problem is slightly wider than just that not working though - It's killed the Microphone completely, can't make voice calls, it's like it's just not picking up the mix exists for some reason :S
It takes time to activate, there is a backend update of google going on while you select your language, but eventually comes back on.
Try voice typing if your believe the mic is not doing any good for "ok google"

Wouldn't really explain why my Microphone doesn't work at all, even in phone calls though

just to try it out to rule out whether it's the telephony app or in effect a bug which affects 5.0 as a whole(which i highly doubt, because i have mine working like a charm) Hell mine even works on off-screen while charging.

Ok, voice search nothing, voice typing nothing, Making Phone calls, nothing x) The only thing I haven't managed to try yet is downloading a 3rd party voice recorder app - but unfortunately I'm on GSM at work and for some reason, Lollipop is refusing to connect to the wifi as well. Good times
Might just flash it back to 4.4.4 and wait for the OTA upgrade to see if that does it better
Just as an additional - managed to download a voice recorder app.... Nothing either. So the whole OS isn't picking up the Microphone. Curiouser and curiouser
Oh hell.... I'm going to hang my head in shame now and hand in any tehcy credentials I may have once had.
I have a Pressy.... I forgot it was plugged in... I didn't install the app. Lollipop saw it as a headset and mic.
In conclusion: I'm an idiot. That is all x) Thank you for anyone who tried to help though.
I have the exact same problem but no pressy. Could it mean that there is a fault with the headphone jack?

Slow Assistant

I'm having a weird issue that I haven't been able to find in any searches: when using Assistant to text (or call) it takes a very long time to process, almost a full minute before it reads the message back and asks if I want to send it. Using Android Auto, it just times out and goes back to playing music. It works just fine if I swipe up from the corners, but Assistant in Maps and Android Auto barely works.
This happens to me when I have bad connection, or when I drive close enough to my gym where it tries to auto connect to the wifi.

Unfortunately connection didn't seem to make a difference. Also, other functions work fine. I can ask questions and get immediate answers, broadcasting to home works fine (which you'd think would be a more intensive task). I've cleared cache/data for the Google app without any change. It's crazy weird and I haven't heard anything else like it.

Are you using the OpenGapps beta or Android 10? I wonder if this is an issue on Android 9 too... Sorry I'm not really sure.

I'm bone stock. I'm on the beta for the Google app. I'll opt out of that and see if it makes a different. I also wonder if it's a server-side issue that's affecting so few people they don't really know it's happening. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
