Rooted Cricket Stylo - System Data "chunk" ENORMOUS! >6GB on 8GB Stylo!
I have the Cricket version of the LG G Stylo (LG-H634), and the "System Data" chunk has gradually ballooned from under 2GB, to take up now more than 6GB of my total 8GB internal storage! I managed to root the device (thanks to these forums), and have been able to delete enough to increase my available storage from under 300MB to almost 600MB (including uninstalling Facebook, which I'd like to reinstall, once I free up more space). Yet the "System Data" chunk hasn't decreased. If anything, it seems like uninstalling apps has, at times, actually caused "System Data" to INCREASE! I've tried everything I've managed to find in these forums, short of either doing a complete factory reset, or hunting down files individually.
I've used multiple "system cleaning" apps, including several that require root access. I use DiskUsage to view the used space (as much as possible), and have used 2 or 3 different file manager apps, trying to make sense of the folder hierarchy. But I have yet to decidedly figure out which folder(s) are even a part of this "System Data" area, let alone, which ones are taking up so much space. PLEASE, someone help! How do I find out what's clogging up my storage, get rid of it, and keep it from getting SO HUGE again?!?

I'm wondering the same thing and which lg apps I can remove and strip out to make room. My storage manager says there is 4.3GB and it's mostly the pre installed crap I never use.

[Q] Rooting, Custom ROMs and Available Internal Storage

Hi there!
If I root my Nexus S, will it then be possible to see what's going on in the internal storage? My phone is acting rather strangely when it comes to the internal storage. When I delete an app's cache (from Settings/Apps) the indicated space does not get freed up. On the contrary, an equivalent amount of space gets subtracted from the indicated amount of free internal storage! On most occasions when I uninstall an app the space gets freed up. However, recently I had 300 MB available when I installed Chrome browser. That took up about 50 MB, so I had a remaining 250 MB available. I uninstalled it again and now I only have 200 MB free. I often get notifications that there is too little storage space available when updating rather small apps (typically less than 20 MB).
With a rooted phone, will I be able to see what's going on and easily locate and delete redundant files? (Back in the days I felt I had a lot better control and overview over my Pocket PC. With my Android I struggle to make sense of what's going on. Well, not that I´m going back...)
I'm not really asking for a quick solution to the problem because it seems from other discussions that this isn't possible. But I'd like to avoid running into the same problem again after a hard reset, rooting, or ROM change.
Cheers,
Larry

hey Larry,
first of all after you're rooted you can see all of your files and folders from...well..root directory
before doing so i'd try to move apps to SD or from SD depends where the low space is: http://i.stack.imgur.com/Aof9r.png
Hi eytan!
As I said, I'm short of internal storage. I've already moved just about everything possible out of the internal memory. Moving programs out of internal storage does result in more internal storage (as long as there's something left to move). However, this does not explain why my internal memory is disappearing. I ought to have a lot more available internal memory - at least 400 MB.
Yes, that's what rooting does. Maybe I should have elaborated a bit... Will it make sense without extensive knowledge of the Android system. It seems like instead of cache (and certain programs like chrome browser) being deleted they are somehow being copied within the internal storage. I was wondering if I would be able to locate this - find some folder that has grown 50 MB in case of the google chrome uninstallation. Or will all this data be stacked up in some sort of system file that isn't accessible.

well, you can always search your phone by folder size and locate the origin of this.
i guess your best chances are at DATA folder, just be careful and make sure you delete only things your'e sure that are already uninstalled and just have "leftovers"

[Q] Isn't there anyone that can help?!

Omfg anyone at all?!
I've been posting on and off for the past 2 weeks and no one is responding, I've got two threads, one of them being much more urgant right now than the other. Maybe I'm intimidation people with my n00bity, but I really thought providing as much information as I could would get more people better resources to help me. However no one responded so I'll just dumb down my problem and focus on one thing and not multiple things.
So my Intenal Storage space says 0.00B. It doesn't tell me how much available space I have left, but I'm assuming its 0.00B as well. However there is a green bar section saying that 39MB is being used for apps. Now I can't install an app at all on this 0.00B partition, even though this is my main partition where all my system data, settings, misc apps should be stored. If I do manage to find an app that installs on my 2.3GB partition, then the app data being used on Partition 1 will be read as 40.5MB instead of 39MB. If I unistall the app, it will go back to 39MB. Luckily stock came with file manager so i can browse my 1st partition to see that even though I have 0.00B total space showing, theres 500MB worth of data being used somewhere.
Basically I'm asking if anyone here knows how I can get that 0.00B to read AS IT USED TO, so that I can install whatever app I need to. It used to read as I think 500MB total and 300MB available, and 40 green for apps, however that all changed when the fire nation attacked---I mean when I factory reset my device and checked the box to erase the 2.3GB partition.

Huge System Data Folder under Misc. and much space for apps used

Yeah. Haven't found a thread so far, so I'm gonna try my best.
Got the LG G Flex 2 H-955 (16GB Storage, 2GB RAM) about 2 Months ago, and this far it is a great phone besides this little problem I am annoyed with.
There is some sort of memory lack or something, but my internal Storage ist filled with a Folder in the Storage manager under Misc. named System Data, I think you know which one I mean, if you own the Flex 2. 2 Months ago, I think I can remember having it only 2 GB, which was totally fine, but now it has about 5.35 GB, which is very much on such small 16GB Storage.
Additionally I found the Apps-part in the Storage manager being 7.75 GB big, but looking under the installed Apps, I can barely find enough to get over 2 gb, and when I look with my File Explorer (ES Explorer) at /storage/emulated/Android it is about 1.8 GB.
My 360 Antivirus is recommending me daily to clean up my phone, which I do every second or third day, but it helps nothing. Maybe it makes it even worse. I don't know.
Is there any way to get rid of these data without rooting my phone and removing warranty?
Just got a new flex 2 16GB, it came with 5.1.1 pre installed. Straight out of the box it has a 7.30GB 'system data' folder in misc heading in storage!!
This leaves me with less than 7GB free space? This can't be right can it?
Very confused about this too
Same thing here! Can someone explain if this is normal? Thanks
Checking about about with root explorer, I found that the system folder is near 4GB, and the data folder is nearly 3GB. Maybe this is what the system data folder refers too....shrugs

internal memory space

i have a question, we have a 24Gb of internal memory, but if you see my screenshot about 14Gb are "System Data" , i cannot understand what's this "system data".
thank all for your answer
Neverending fight for free space
I thought "system data" was some part of the firmware but firmware already took 10gib so not sure what it is. I fight with free space every day single day. There must be some part of the internal space I don't have access to (was to late to get unlock code) which eating up my free space. Can't find it using normal tools
I use Diskinfo as well and mine shows "System Data" having 6.77gib and apps 16gib. I am deleting apps and media and everything I can but never see to win. I am gonna a switch to iPhone on the next upgrade. Honor 7 was same. Just tired of these issues. I had Samsung Xcover which was rooted and I could find a folder getting strange huge files that I had to erase manually in order to get free space. Not having rooted phones or options are limited

rootless ways to Overcome >500mb free space required limit?

Google forces people to have at least 500mb of free space saying "some crashes may happen" (they actually don't and if they do I/people can manage that).
Freed up all space on phone, removed all files, removed almost all apps, but space used up (probably by internal partitions such as /data /system etc) increases so:
I mostly can't ****ing use phone any more;
can't install any app (even from USB, yeah I unchecked the damn "protect device" options),
can't enable ADB (because of some other WebView error, which too is related to how google/android works, can't access Dev Settings, they always crash , yes even with >500mb of free space),
can't view email (only in Gmail) (without a workaround,
can't download files (only in Google Drive) and so on...
Clearly this is a google problem, I wish I (and anybody else) never had to use an android/iphone etc.
When rooted etc, all this was never a problem, I also even could do all until there was actually 0mb available.
I need to do this to test some app I'd like to develop.
I can root, etc. each phone, but I'd rather keep putting it off (as I'm developing a hatred for all this, including anti user technology)
@StackExploit
It's NOT Google who notifies you when your Android device has less than 500MB free storage space, but Android OS.
The Android >=500MB free storage space rule is because of 'operating capital' - it needs space to store temporary files as you use apps, it needs space to download updates to and space to store the uncompressed update files prior to installing them ( it should delete the compressed and uncompressed update files automatically after install ), etc.pp.
If Android's storage memory is 32GB ( 32,768MB ) then 500MB correspond to ~2%, if it's 16GB ( 16,384MB ) then it corresponds to ~3%. IMO ridiculously low shares. Take note that Windows & Mac computers have the at minimum 10% free space rule.
In answer to your actual question: I don't believe there's a way around this restriction. Not unless you had rooted and used a custom ROM that specifically mentioned that as a feature. Even if you could bypass it, you'd probably run into other problems (e.g. performance) as a consequence.
Yes, of course, I didn't mention this need of space for temp files (which most often don't take up anywhere near as much as 500mb), because I explained instead for example that I can manage if things crash. These files should be in RAM instead when possible anyway(!).
Well, the min storage is 3% but so what when you can't upgrade any parts like storage and external storage is still lagging behind in so many cases. The higher prices for devices with more (of the same non removable) internal storage are ridiculous.
