Guys I have broken the screen of my new Moto G3 as it dropped on floor. Now the glass has cracked but touch and display is working fine. Now what should I do? As I have heard it takes lot of money to get the screen repair done. Please suggest me something. Thank you

No
So any chance of getting it repaired? Original and Low cost..?
There's nothing at all on ifixit for this one yet. Your only hope is a repair shop who offers a warranty or an authorized Moto repair facility....unless you're the type of brave soul to dive balls deep into a device repair blindly. And if that's the case, I salute you. It takes big balls to do that lol
A cheap fix is put a tempered glass screen protector over the broken glass

In that motorola is replacing a screen for free right?
Yes, if you have Moto care accident protection they'll replace it as far as I know. Not sure if it's free though. Might be a small deductible?

well if the touch works i would recumbent to add a tempered glass and use it and save money to fix the screen later
replacement probably costs as much as a new phone
Most of the touch screen cost around Rs 4000 INR

So on day 4 of using my Nexus 5 I cracked the screen pretty badly. It was sitting on the edge of my dining room table and I hit it up into the air. It did one rotation and landed on a plate. I'd say the total fall couldn't have been more then 5 or 6 inches... The screen was totally smashed. :crying:
Anyway I've just sent it into LG for repair. The return process was pretty smooth but the CS Rep would not give me a quote or any idea what the replacement cost would be. I should hear from them in a few business days with a price. Anyone in the same boat?

Did you have a case/ a screen protector on? I'm sorry to hear that.
According to iFixit "The glass and LCD are fused to the display frame. Fixing broken glass will be either expensive or very difficult."
Might as well just invest in another one or another phone.

No case. Although I never had one on my Nexus 4 or Galaxy Nexus and they got through some drops ok. I think the difference here is the edge to edge glass. Even a small hit on the edge will crack the screen. Trust me there will be a case on it if I ever get it back.
I am guessing that it will be at least $150 based on iFixit and some quotes I've seen from the Nexus 4 thread. I'll update everyone when I get a price.
Pay with a credit card? Unless you have a poverty card, there is a good chance your card will have 90 day purchase protection and will cover the cost of the replacement.
Well I just got a notification that fedex delivered my phone to LG Repair facility. Now just waiting for a phone call.
Has anyone else received a quote on a screen replacement yet?

Hello, I m realy wondering how LG can repair your screen without giving you any kind of pre invoice???
I can anderstand that like dead HDs, they can't say how it would cost before examine it but then they must call you back to ask you if you accept the price!
Unless they have done it for free....

Yes my understanding is that they will call me first with a price before repairing it. If I accept they will fix it. If not they will send it back.
I really don't have any choice tho really. If its anything less then the 350 I paid for it Ill probably get it fixed. Other then the cracked screen its a brand new phone.
Well I got the quote from LG. It's $146 dollars to repair the screen. Not too bad I guess.
Hello, Nexus 5 is my first smarthphone, so I don't have much experience with this issue. I've just dropped it down from like 70-80 centimeters and the screen shattered. The good news are that the touch works perfectly and the display itself looks fine. My question is do I only need one of those ~10$ screen replacements from eBay and if yes do they look and feel like the real thing. I really don't want my phone to feel crappy and unauthentic after replacing.
Oh, and should I find a specialist to do it for me or the process is relatively easy and I should be fine?
P.S.: here is one of the said ~10$ replacements - http://www.ebay.com/itm/Front-Scree...l_Phone_Screen_Protectors&hash=item51be030cb7

There are many threads on this topic. Basically no, you need the LCD+digitizer+frame if you plan on replacing it yourself which costs almost as much as the $150 fee LG will charge you for repairing it.

OK, but if I go to a smartphone repair service and give it to a pro? 10$ for the replacement and maybe 20-30$ for the work still sounds better than 150$. Thanks for the reply.

I think what bblzd is saying is that you don't just need that $10 replacement, but rather the screen and digitizer as well. Even if you took it to a pro, they are going to charge you the same if not more than LG.
The glass is bonded to the digitizer with adhesive. To replace just the glass you'd have to separate the two pieces. Good chance of breaking the digitizer while attempting this. And even if you do pull it off without breaking it, you'd have to use loca uv adhesive to attach the glass to the old digitizer. Not an easy feat. YouTube a video on loca adhesive and you'll see. And even after that it will not be perfect. Imo don't even attempt it. Your best bet is to send it to LG for repair and pay the 150. Your other option is to buy the whole assembly for 100 and install it yourself. If it where mine, id pay the 150 and have LG fix it.

Ok, now I understand. Sigh... These assembly parts for 100 are original, and not some chinese replica, right? I've searched around and it looked like it's pretty easy DYI with a whole assembly. I doubt there is official LG service in my area. Thanks for the reply.

The oem replacements are 140 dollars. The generic aftermarket ones are 100. I've read that the generic one sold by a company called ulike is good. You can find them on Amazon.
You should really talk to LG support, I shattered my screen and sent an email off. I don't know how lucky I was but they replaced my screen for free, all I had to do was pay for the shipping to repair location that LG sent me. It doesn't hurt to ask LG, and then decide to go a different route depending on what they said.

The touch screen glass of my Nexus 5 is broken but the screen is working absolutely fine. I need to change the glass of the phone but customer care charges me Rs. 8000 (INR) for replacing the whole LCD DIsplay. Should I go buy a duplicate glass from ebay for approx Rs 1500?
Anyone had experience of how the quality of duplicate glass is would be of great help. Thanks a lot.

The glass and panel are one. Trying to separate the glass from the LCD would be extremely difficult and you'd risk damaging the LCD. With that being said, you're better off replacing the entire display assembly.

But it is approximately 5times the cost of screen only. And I searched on ebay.com and they are selling it at $5. So the difference it that case would be much more!

Of course, if you're not competent doing such things you're likely to just break everything, in which case you'll have to buy another front panel anyways lol
Just purchase the entire front panel, 10 minute simple swap with hardly any risk.
Recently I changed my N5's broken glass, it costed only 7200/- from LG Service Center. I recommend you to go to any service center than doing it y yourself.

I have just replaced my screen+frame after a double drop smashed it completely. I contacted Motorola Support and while my phone too was under warranty, it doesn't cover accidental damage to the screen through being dropped. I was quoted an eye watering £200 to send my phone to the repair facility in Germany to have the screen replaced and couriered back to me in the UK. Negotiations failed!
This all at the same time the Moto X 2014 was reduced on the Moto UK website to £229 for the same spec and options as my handset. Absolute madness!
By comparison, An Apple iPhone 6 screen replacement directly through Apple costs approx £86.44 without their Apple Care package, £55 if you have Apple care. Motorola are ripping customers off with their repairs.
So what I have done is purchase a genuine screen replacement from a US based reseller on eBay. This cost £72 + £20 postage and £15 import tax, so £107 in total. I performed the repair myself, heating up the rear cover (bamboo) first to make it easier to remove, as there is a lot of adhesive! Thankfully there was no damage and could be re-applied. There are 18 T4 screws to remove, a couple of connectors for the battery, LCD etc.. the whole thing just lifts apart after that. Quite easy really!

This is the one I bought, there are others available from different US resellers:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/151642165201
There are slightly cheaper options that you can get from China and Hong Kong too. I went for the US seller because of the speed of delivery to the UK and I had slight worries whether the China based screens where genuine or not.

Did the screen you ordered already come with everything in one piece? (LCD, touch, glass, maybe other parts to make it all fit, etc)
Don't throw away your money in replacing/repairing the screen! It did it twice and highly regret it. Seems like the screen is breaking on it's own! Such an expensive phone with such an incredibly fragile screen....no case, bumper, protection or a thousand pillows will save your moto x screen from breaking. As usual: Motorola does not care about that = biggest dissapointment to me

How is the quality? same as original? what about the colors, contrast, etc?
Hi everyone. I'm wondering if anyone on here has broken there back glass and managed to get it replaced? I pulled my phone out of my pocket a couple days ago and when i looked at it the back cover was shattered. i have no idea what happened. I didn't drop my phone and i don't remember anything hitting my pocket but i figure somehow i must have bumped it. At any rate I purchased a spigen case to cover it up and it looks fine. I'd be able to live with it with the exception that i have a crack going over each of my camera lenses resulting in some distorted pictures. So anyway, short story long, I'm pretty sure that i'm just going to order a replacement back from ebay and attempt the replacement myself. I'm fairly confident from the video's that I've watched that i can handle it ok. If not then oh well I guess. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. Has anyone else done this repair and have any information or advice that would be useful. Just curious and figure it's worth asking first. Thanks in advance
I am quite lucky to even after it several falls.carefully replace it good luck .
Only a few people I saw had their back glass shattered. And I think most of them had replaced it either in the service center or got a replacement unit.
