Ask any question thread - Xiaomi Mi 4C

I was meaning to make this thread and forgot all the questions I had.
I'll start with one, does the CM rom have dual sim function?

I can't seem to find the data usage in settings unless miui removed it?

i think your battery is empty before that happens
Found this on ars technica site:
Actually it's physically impossible for an LCD to get screen burn - that refers to the phosphorous coating on old CRTs where the electron beam actually burnt away the coating... (which is technically reversible, however I doubt it would be economically feasible and requires specialist equipment)
LCDs suffer from a something similar - which is called image persistence, a static image causes a parasitic capacitance to build up which prevents the liquid crystal molecules from returning to their normal relaxed state. The good news is that it's reversible and can be performed by an end user.
It can usually be recovered by displaying a full white screen and depending on the severity of the persistent image it can be recovered in as little as an hour...
Also due to the nature of IPS panels they tend to suffer the image persistence problems sooner than other LCD panels. Modern laptops shouldn't suffer from image ghosting (not at a hardware level anyway) - on older panels is was caused by slow refresh rates and panel response times (The old cursor submarining on Apple PowerBook 140s spring to mind). Extremes in temperatures can cause ghosting or panel lethargy in older panels - most modern panels have impressive temperature ranges...

I guess I can install the nav bar mod without worrying about screen burns then

Yes

I did install soft buttons last week but it wasn't transparent where aosp based roms are and was worried about screen burns so removed it

But on other phones they are often also not transparent

Example being the desktop, its transparent and some apps also have it transparent

Yes, but before Android KitKat almost all nav bars were black

Yea I know that, just want it to mimic nexus method

Is there any app that can assign long press actions to Tue capacitive keys? I need long press menu/recents button launch last app. Sadly miui doesn't have this. I know cm rom has it but need it on miui rom.

To answer original question, yes, dual sim works well. You assign which sim to use for outgoing calls or to ask you every time which sim to use. same with sms. For data you assign one sim.
The one sim that is primary can use 3g, lte, while the secondary uses 2g (from what i have observed).

Hello, are there any Mi4c users using CDMA/Evdo Rev. A networks? I'm using CDMA networks but the data connection not working at all neither through CDMA or Evdo Rev. A or even LTE, but the sms & voice working normal. Has anyone facing the same problem? Maybe has solution to it?
Thanks.

Anyone else have issues with the alarm not ringing in the morning, after the phone haven't been used for 6-8 hours during the night? I'm currently using Sleep as Android as my alarm app and I've set the alarm to ring every morning, but it never does. I assume this is because of MiUI's memory optimization, which causes it to shutdown the app during the night and therefore the alarm won't ring when I've set it to.
I've tried looking for an option to customize/turn off the memory optimization for certain apps, but I can't seem to find any option for this. Anyone experienced the same issues and have any solution to it, because the alarm is kinda necessary for me ^^

Well the default alarm works fine for me and I'm on build 5.11.5

Default alarm app works fine for me too

Hm, alright.. maybe I should try to use the default alarm and see if it works. You don't have any ideas of why Sleep as Android isn't working? I have tried to set the alarm during the day when I'm constantly using the phone and then the alarm is working perfectly, so it seems like the phone is doing something during the night that turns off the app.
Thanks for your answers.

Is there any way of preventing the miui CD mounting when connecting to PC with USB?

[Q] Any way to keep brightness down in camera?

Right, I've got a black One S with android 4.0.3 and sense 4, all like new (as it is). I don't fancy rooting it and don't really want to change from the HTC Rom, but the backlight in the camera annoys me. On the touch pro2 with the HTC stuff, I'm certain there was an option in settings to keep the screen backlight down when in the camera. On the Trophy that followed, I couldn't control it, because, let's face it, you can't control much in WP7. however, switching to the one S and android, I expected being able to keep the backlight down.
Why is this frustrating me? I don't like.being blinded by the viewfinder, and I don't want to kill the battery any more than I have to. So, is there a way to keep the phone's backlight down while in the HTC camera app?
Okay, now I know everyone has ignored this thread but I think I've discovered a way. So here's the setup:
HTC One S
System brightness set to lowest
A 4 digit screen-lock password
So I have the passcode set on the 15 minute max timeout, so, the phone locked itself, and I dragged the camera icon on the lockscreen into the ring. Naturally, despite being locked, it still allows use of the camera. Now, it may just be my eyes, but I'm certain I noticed a distance difference in brightness. That is, the screen seemed a lot dimmer when the camera app was being accessed from behind the lock rather than unlocked.
I think the brightness is ok lol

AMOLED displays as the one in One S doesnt have backlights. But there is a mod that lowers the values when using auto brightness since the defaults are a bit high, not especially made for in-camera though. Check for it in Tweak Machine thread in apps and themes forums.

I guess most people aren't that fussed about the brightness, but the battery did seem to last a lot longer when recording 1080p video with the lower brightness.

Does that require root access? From what I can see it does, and I guess that too would be helpful for the majority, but my phone isn't rooted. Mainly because I like the HTC Sense camera interface so much
Yeah you must flash it from custom recovery so at least unlocked boot loader required. Why not try a sense based ROM? They all keep the awesome HTC camera and its snappiness
Unfortunately with the One S update I finally received last night bringing it up from Android 4.0.3 to 4.0.4 and Sense 4.1, HTC have now removed the incredibly helpful 'bug' of the brightness staying down in the camera if it is launched from the lockscreen with a password set. Thanks a lot HTC, you excell yourselves with stupidity once again.

Bump. Recording lectures is impossible due to HTC's stupidity. The 100% screen brightness not only kills the battery before lecture ends, but it's extremely distracting for people behind me (especially if room is dark during powerpoint presentations).
This has to be turned down. Ideally, once set up, the phone should be able to record video with the screen OFF. Or at least with brightness on min. Surely there's a mod or a hack for this?

hi,
Firstly, I'm glad that I'm not alone in this. As you said, it is extremely frustrating as not only is the bright screen distracting for others and makes you look foolish, the battery hardly lasts any time at all. I contacted HTC to see if they could add a brightness slider, their customer support rep said the technical team would get in touch with me - they haven't.
However, on the positive side, I have found two apps which don't allow you to record with lower brightness, they up the ante to your other suggestion, having the screen off. I'd always assumed that cameras on phones couldn't work with the screen off because I thought the phone went into proper sleep. Turns out that the camera can stay active. There are many poor apps on Play, but I found two which offer free (very limited functionality, but allows you to check that the app works with your phone) versions and rather expensive pro versions. I tried both the free versions and liked the second one I tried so much that I bought it.
The first one I found was (I don't know why they assume people are using their cameras solely for nefarious purposes - some of us do have legitimate reasons and battery life concerns) 'Hidden Camera Spy Camera', Play link (Lite version link is in their description). This one worked ok, but took a while to configure and doesn't have the nicest interface. So I continued hunting and came across an even better app:
Secret Video Recorder Pro (Lite version listed at the side in the More by this Developer panel): This app is even more elegant. I tried the lite version and found that it worked well, so I then decided to buy the full version (apparently it's currently 50% off, but still pretty expensive - well worth it though). After going through the settings, I set it to use the rear camera and force HD recording. I then tapped the icon on the homescreen, it notified me and then just ran in the notification area. I then turned the screen off, whirled the phone around my room, turned the phone back on and tapped on the notification to stop it. I then checked the video and to my amazement, it had worked! (on an unrooted, still carrier locked, black One S running the latest official updated OS (Android 4.0.4 and Sense 4.1))
When I dragged the app into the fixed Sense homescreen dock, originally it displayed nothing, even after rebooting the phone. However, after Sense crashed and showed me a message saying Sense had crashed, it even worked from the lockscreen. If you have the 'Show icon' enabled in the SVR Preferences, you can then tell from the lockscreen that it is actually recording as you can see the icon in the notification bar.
I'm sorry for rambling on and on, but I think SVR just got into my top 5 apps of all time list as it is unbelievably flawless (apart from the price )

Doesn't using SVR defeat your original purpose? It's not using the Sense camera, it's using it's own implementation? At that rate, any aftermarket camera should work and allow you to use default screen brightness.

Unfortunately, yes, it does. SVR is sort of a compromise for me at the moment as I can save battery life but I do miss out on all the Sense camera features. It would be great if HTC do actually listen to my request and implement it, given how simple a request it is, but they appear to be constantly so far ahead with all their development process that I doubt they'd include it in the the Android 4.1 release scheduled for this month
SVR is on one end of the scale of what I'd like to do with the camera (save the battery) and the Sense camera is on the other end (use the camera). Where I'd like HTC to place us is in the middle of those two, with the ability to use the Sense camera but in a power-efficient manner (such as being able to record a video but take stills at the same time, with the battery outlasting the meager storage space).

Missing tweaks

Hello Everyone,
I'm fresh owner (bouth a week ago) of Honor 9 and I'm very happy with the choise I've made. The phone is incredible fast (comparing from my previous Galaxy S6) and EMUI is well optimised. But, ehm let's complain a bit . I'm courious what kind of feature you're missing on your Honor 9 phone/EMUI. For me the complaining list would look like:
- Missing ability to control notification light - different freq. and color for different apps
- Gesture for home button - there would be nice if "scroll up/down" would trigger to enroll notification arean
- Dim clock as screensaver while charging (very usefull as I'm charging my phone while sleeping, and so could be use as night clock)
- Knock Knock feature on locked phone - to see notification when phone is on the table (I know there is notification LED for it)
Ok that's my complaining list. If you have any idea to overcome such a limitation feel free to suggest. Also don't hesitate to complain a bit as well

I don't think there is a way to over come your complaints without rooting your device. Even rooting your device won't allow you to use the features you want on the home button.

Hi iceepyon,
yes I believe you're right, there the missing feature about home button won't be most probably overcome without ROOTing the device and use custome KERNEL. To by honest with you I'd rather to not use the feature as some application I'm using won't run on ROOTed phones (based on official statements).
Hovewer I believe some of missing feature could be added by some app?Any recommendation?

- most phones nowadays don't have notification light. Probably because the phone spend most of its time in our hands
- I agree with this one. The fingerprint scanner supports swiping gesture
- honor 9 uses ips lcd screen, even if its dimmed, the whole screen still light up. This will heavily drain the battery
- you can use wave on proximity sensor app to turn the screen on

1. Maybe most of the phones doesn't have notification LED (wouldn't be so sure about this one), but Honor 9 does, so ability to control it would be usefull
2. Yeah would be nice, but dunno if if is possible withou kernel upgrading
3. Yes, could be battery dainer, but I'm speaking about situation when the phone is charging actually
4. Can you explain a bit deeper the statement, about to using "waze on proximity sensor app"?

3. Charging and discharging simultaneously can be harmful to the battery health
4. There are a few apps out there that try to simulate the wake screen using gestures and usually they implement it by making use of the proximity sensor. AcDisplay, WaveUp and Glance Plus are among them

Well, there is honestly nothing much which can be done if you want to add the knock on wake feature. Same can be said of the notification LED as those are built into the device's official stock OS. The only thing you can do is install a 3rd party OS and hope that it has some of the features you want. However be warned that most if not all 3rd party OSes do not have the best post image processing software so your pictures won't turn out as good as if you have taken them using the stock OS that came with your device.
@iceepyon, yes I can imagine that most 3rd party OS won't have such a camera software optimalization. Btw, I've read some post about how to enable 3rd party clock as screensaver. I can't understand why Honor/Huawei disabled this feature, which is present in stcok android.

Probably due to security issues. As Huawei has been focusing quite allot on making and keeping their devices secure.
@iceepyon, I really don't know how "clock" screensaver would expose the security more than "image slideshow" screensaver

That is certainly true of rooting or installing custom OSes onto your mobile device. As there are so many things which can go wrong. However current versions of android are now at a point where unless you need to have your device rooted for work purposes. There really isn't a point for the average user to do so.

Android 10 [Q] Features Report/Feedback

So I know there are other android 10 threads out there but I felt like y'all should get a list of whats new in front of your eyes instead of looking around:
**Improved night camera quality - Yes I have felt and improvement it is slight however, but it did get somewhat better.
**Google's new navigation gestures (I felt like I should write this because last updates, Sony phones did not get the nav gestures) however the new gestures seem just a tiny bit laggy -rarely though- and when in landscape mode, the slide down bar drops not in a symmetric way but rather drops right sided which makes things look out of place
**New CinemaPro app features - the app now has the levels of both phone microphones like on the v50 and also has aspect ratio check lines (if you want to shoot a video on cinema pro it only shoots 21/9 but you can have check lines to see whats being viewed in any other aspect ratio you choose and you also have a meter inside the camera to show you if youre in the frame or not)
**Dark mode - works on most apps, but I can't seem to activate it on my phone app, any suggestions?
**UI click sounds changed - yup! I love the new ones they sound more like Android rather than Sony and I do love Android!
**FINGERPRINT!!!! - Yes!! finally fingerprint scanner is way more responsive now!! before it was sooo strict about the cleanness and the angle, I registered 3 fingers and it only could recognize one of them because of the angle it provides, but now every finger on any angle with less cleanness is verry responsive! (could still be worked on, but im so happy with it at this moment)
**Sadly no more face unlock, even though I never used it but it worked surprisingly fast when I had the option available, but now it doesnt exist, good thing they improved the fingerprint scanner XD
**Slightly improved battery life - I only noticed it when I tested it, but if youre not a detailed tester you wont be able to recognize throughout the day, maybe if youre a slight user, yes you will notice the phone lasting 2/3 hours longer (overall usage and not screen on time) because I can tell they worked greatly on improving the idle drain.
**Speaker loudness - I think the phone got louder? I am not sure but defiantly notice something that didnt exist, not necessarily higher quality but I do notice something increasing in volume I cant tell if its volume or distortion lol but when I go to max volume there is something that makes you think, a little lower than max sounded like max on previous android but I cant tell if max here is actually louder or just more noisy especially with dolby atmos
**Some people reported signal drops? or bad signal? I havent noticed a difference here so thats good news
**Performance - the phone was fast enough to almost be the king of speed and smoothness so yah even if its better on android 10 I cant even feel the difference but it is VERY smooth even on a new android which means its pretty sick!
**Recent apps button (in old school 3 button nav bar) doesnt seem to do anything if you have custom launcher, but works on default sony launcher.
UPDATE!!
**one handed mode, which I use alot when im in bed, cant seem to be activated in the new navigation gestures, because you have to double tap home button but u dont have it in new gestures, so heres what i did:
Enabled side sense, i know it doesn't work properly, but now you have an option of controlling how to access it, You can actually enable the inside the screen tap rather than from the side (if you have a case on, this will really help you) , adjust sensitivity, position, transparency of the slide activators, and change the gestures of how it works, now i changed the double tap side sense from opening the side sense menu, to activate one handed mode, and now side sense works smoothly with gestures and i can activate one handed mode in new android nav gestures, youre welcome
Thx u for this thread
UI seems a lot smoother. I'm liking the android 10 gestures which adds to the "smoothness".
Can't really say about photo quality, haven't been using the camera much. I can definitely notice a better battery life compared to before.
Basically no issues just yet! Aside from me getting used to the new gestures (+ side sense)
Im using the google dialer app in play store. It has a way better ui, better icons and dark mode compatible. Set it as default and it's all good. I don't understand why sony have decided to use the "stock" google messenger app but not dialer... the dialer seems customized in some way idk
There is a bug that I noticed: when going back home using the gesture, if the app icon is on the dock, the icons a bit laggy and will flash for once. don't really know how to describe it
Someone can make a full review of android 10 and post it on youtube ?

I don't use any music streaming service such as Spotify or Pandora. I think I've concluded that this is a software bug since I when I flashed back to the previous firmware and didn't have the same problem. Maybe my device is just strange. Any opinion?

Precisely, IDK if that happens with pixel or one plus devices, but I know that it happens with Xperia 1. When you go back to the app, let's just say it's inside a folder, app shows in the dock then the folder pops back. Then if you open an app let's just say dialer then you switch to camera with recent menu and you go back to home screen it shows dialer app on where the camera icon then you get the camera icon back in the dock. Due to the large number of people having problems (boot loop, black screen) with certain LCD/TP combinations, I assume Xiaomi have withdrawn the update.
I'm from Brazil and my signal is very poor after Android 10 most of the times it automatically changes from 4g to 3g... Any thoughts?

omg i thought i was the only one, five dark circle spots appeared where the navbar used to be after android 10 i presumed the screen was done for, could this be an issue with android 10 and can it be fixed with a SW update?

This defect of the dark points, can be interpreted as hardware damage?

Dear IlSaro,
I Don't Think So This Hardware Has Damaged As Before The Update There Was No Dark Spot. This Should Be Fixed With New March Update.

i hope so but it looks like the lcd hardware got damaged while updating so idk if a software update will fix it.
It does not have to be damaged hardware. I think this might be a driver problem where some of the backlight led are not triggered correctly. We will see with the next patch.
Sadly i am not so happy with the update.
The darkmode is quite nice, but reading in sunlight is difficult in some apps. Gmail for example is really hard to read in darkmode when you are outside and the sun is shining. Would be nice to have a quick option the switch between darkmode and normal. You can put a shortcut in the Top menu, so everything is fine here.
Gesture Control is also a mixed bag for me. While it works fine overall there are some problems, sadly especially with the apps that uses googles material concept for menus. A swipe from the left normally opens the menu. Now it also is the "back" button and clashes with it. You now have to make a awkward gesture (starting left, going down and right diagonal) to open the menu or you have to use the button for the menu. But this sits at the top left of the screen so good look reaching there with one hand.
Dual Sim is bad now because you can no longer deaktivate a single sim. I don't know why this is removed.
The camera plays sounds on taking a picture even if you deactived the sounds in the camera app. And if you active them, you get two sounds at once.
Support for third party launchers with gesture controll completly does not work.
And we got a message to customize our pixel in the settings. Which is a little bit useless because i do not use a pixel phone here.
Overall i don't think the update is very good. Feels rushed and not really tested.

I confirm the lack of dual-sim settings but apart from the small gray areas at the bottom, which could be eliminated in the future update, I do not detect other bugs.
After the update, however, I made a complete reset
I confirm the pixel reminder and the third party launcher gestures not working at all.
Problems so far:
When i scroll your screenshots from the first post, i got lot of lagg (please try for your self in Xda app + Android 10).
Also, two or three times, I'm experiencing random reboots from some apps.
I noticed random drops on both wifi bands (2.4 & 5 GHz).
Worse strength of 4G mobile signal.
Slower response from fingerprint sensor.
Very common graphical glitches on home screen.
Worst battery life.
Maximum brightness is now lower than earlier in previous version of Android.
The overall performance is good and gestures are fast and don't usually lag.
The bugs I've detected are:
- Five dim spots on the bottom of the screen, they show up just a second after the Android One logo appear when booting up or restarting.
- much worse cell signal reception.
- (edit, fixed with reboot) No microphone most of the times (WhatsApp and telegram voice notes are silent, assistant and Google voice search don't work, "ok Google" doesn't trigger, etc.) and low volume when recording videos.
- Still no vibration for WhatsApp, telegram, signal... calls when DND is active and set up to allow calls from anyone. Regular phone calls do vibrate as expected.
- Battery seems to drain faster?
Can I ask if anybody can confirm if Bluetooth audio codecs can be selected, as it has been broke for months andd never fixed, can you set aac on aac headphones?
Sorry 10 is not on my device as it bricked it

You can put a "dark mode" tile in quick settings.
If you move it to the first 6 tiles, you can switch dark mode on or off after one single slide down of QS.

Anybody else having issues with the new Android 11 update?

UI transitions, pulling down the notifications or pulling up the app drawer seems laggy/slow frame rate.
Battery drain: the battery used to last at the very least 48h. Now I'm recharging it every 24/28h
Factory reset didn't solve anything for me.
laggy here too. Good info, now I know Factory reset it's useless.
Other issue I have:
some app don't use anymore or not properly border / edge.
I think downgrade to Android 10.
Haven't got it yet, in the US.
Same lagging in Android 11 on Edge.
I also have Edge+, on Edge+ no change.
Went back to Android 10...

I found a solution, I'll post it later. Battery is ok for me.
This works for me:
Go to Developer options and disable "Enable blurs". That option provides a blur on the screen, for example, behind the notification panel when we slide it.
You need to perform a reboot. After rebooting, all animations and transitions work fine. Let me know if it is useful.
Related with this: When "Enable blur" is enabled and you are broadcasting screen, you will notice a problem in vertical mode. Try swiping the notification bar... can you see how the resolution expands on the TV? I'm sure that's related to the lag.

Yes, I noticed that. I don't think it's an issue... it's a motorola decision.

It can be a motorola decision have border screens and dont be used properly, some apps dont use the edges now and i see my backscreen wallpepare in the sides when im using spotify. Is horrible and it shouldnt be like that!
I have the same problems as you guys and also now i have to wait half of a second to start recording an audio on whatsapp or instagram, and before the update it was perfect.... Does someone know how to do a downgrade?
I updated my Moto Edge 5g 6days ago, and changed the Blur option as advised by Cruban and my phone is working fine.
The battery seems the same as it was before and i don't have any issues with the non edge apps and the wallpaper.
For me too at first!
After disable turn off "Enable blur" and restart the phone , everything's work fine
I have receive new update today
RPD31.Q4U-39-26-14
