I was under the impression that this phone had MFC support. But after turning on NFC, trying my yubikey, notifying the nfc are I realized that the NFC is only for Google pay. What!
Ok actually I managed to use it between two phones to share url:s
But, common! Why not proper NFC? Google pay is not present here, and I have at least 5 devices that support nfc that is not working with this phone, the most annoying thing being my yubikey.
This is beyond bad actually...
The hardware is there but the software is strangled? Why remove something like this?

Apple only enables NFC for Apple Pay, I guess this part of HTC's new plan to emulate Apple.
Is this for real? Can other users confirm that there is no NFC Bluetooth pairing nor support for other accessories?
Look here confirms it: http://www.technobuffalo.com/videos/htc-one-a9-hands-on/
But would be nice if any one else tried it as well

Interesting, I tried to share a picture with my existing phone and nothing happened. I then tried to share a contact and I received the Beam sound on my MotoX, but no transfer. Now, nothing happens when I bring the 2 devices together. Did you do anything more than bring the devices together to test NFC?

I transferred from this device to my M8, maybe that's the difference, transferring from HTC to HTC.
To answer your question, when you hear the beam notification you tap the screen on the device your transferring from. Hope this helps.

Finally, let’s talk briefly about NFC. The One A9 supports NFC in the United States and in other regions where Android Pay is available, but it’s only for Android Pay. NFC doesn’t have access to read/write to the phone’s storage, which means you can’t use it to initiate a file transfer.

Can someone confirm if this statement is accurate?
I just tried beaming an image to my wife's Samsung a3 which worked ok. Tried the other way round and the A9 opened Google play? and transfer failed. So the standby may well be correct
NFC Yubikey worked with my M8 but not the A9. As crappy as it is, it does work with an OTG cable.

Try the latest version, it updated today and works on my A9.
Took a bit to figure out, but my Yubikey works with NFC on the A9. That said, you have to put it in the right orientation.
Place the back of the Yubikey directly to the left of the camera bump, flush against the case. Hold for three seconds. You might have to rotate the key slightly or move it a bit to ensure the tag is read. It's definitely not the best experience, but it's usable.
I'm trying to use a 3rd party app and it's not reading it. Using it outside the app should load a website... it doesn't. Sometimes if I put the gold button on top of the camera it will make the error beep. I also can't get a Sony NFC speaker to pair. It does seem to work in the yubico authenticator app but it seems HTC had to go and make the M8's abysmal NFC performance even worse.
Hi! I'm from Poland!
I have an account in bank which provides the NFC HCE payments ! Will it work with HTC A9 ?!
How can you put NFC ON?
If I put NFC Pay ON it will not pair with my Sony NFC earphones
I was able to use the YubiKey Neo once or twice and now no matter where I put it, or how I rotate it or how long I wait nothing happens. Tested with a Samsung SIII on CM 12.1 and it still works there. I wonder if one of the many updates broke it?
I tried it today and IT IS WORKING. I think since update to android 7 it work. Maybe no for NFC tags but for Android Beam YES.

it should pair with it but you will need an Android based app to view the video feed on your phone.

go figure
Yes you could buy the camera between $ 50 to $ 100 that will fit your vehicle compared to the aftermarket kits that are out there that will run $ 400 to $ 1700 (OEM) for certain vehicles, that will use the OEM Nav Screen
Not looking to have a gazillion screens in the car, one for each single application.
Lets bring our tablets/phones to good use !
Hope developers are listening, because they could make real good money on something like this
Anyone got this figured out yet? I found this app http://www.appszoom.com/android_developer/juergen-kienhoefer_byhny.html that might work. but not having any luck finding a bluetooth enabled camera that's waterproof and wide angle that would work for the application. The one for that app is spendy and I don't think it'll work as it just uses an on board battery for the power so you'd have to take it out and charge it regularly and I highly doubt it's waterproof.
I did purchase a cheap backup cam and was trying to find a bluetooth transmitter that I could hook it to either via the cam's RCA output or a 3.5mm jack via an adaptor.
I would love to find an app or have one developed for this that would automatically pair and display the camera once the camera is turned on via the backup lights.
i been trying to figure this out as well
but i want a camera that is on all the time while i am riding my motorcycle and use my GN2 as a monitor
i came across these 3 possible options
this camera which says it works via wifi with android os but the camera seems to big for my application
http://www.ebay.com/itm/230949437787?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649
2nd option is another wifi camera but you have to view streaming via the web
this has a youtube video
http://www.ebay.com/itm/180862777730?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649
3rd option is another wifi camera. im waiting on the seller to give me more iof if it will pair with my GN2
http://www.ebay.com/itm/321093995489?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649
im still looking into bluetooth cameras and i will post what i find

Seems pretty expensive, but I am sure there are some other options out there. You have to use their app in order to view the camera's output and the framerate looks like it's pretty poor from what I saw on the iPhone version of the app. Not sure if Android will be better.

I purchased the 4ucam Wifi setup. It works good enough, but there is a problem. With the wifi setup to see the camera you can not get data over 4G. This means if you want to use the camera in your car and still be able to get email or map data etc. you must manually turn on your wifi and wait about 10 seconds for the camera to connect. Then when done using the camera (backing up) manually turn off the wifi to enable 4G data again. Then when you get home, manually turn on the wifi again to use your wifi internet connection.
You must also turn off the feature to auto switch between wifi and mobile networks.
This would be the same for any camera using wifi. I've not found a way to use a non-internet connected wifi network and get mobile network data at the same time.
Still searching for a way to get a backup camera on my android phone.
There is a startup in my town who is creating exactly what you want.
It looks great , but the price is a bit insane

If your phone gets stollen you can control anything. camera, gps, etc... even if sim card is changed

What if it goes down?
What if he just decides to drop it?
What if his site is hacked?
He can technically access this stuff...Not saying he would but it sure seems like a lot of trust to put in someone you'll never know.

This is one application I can never complain about.
I travelled to India around 4 months back and lost my phone when I was shopping.
I complained to the police and the cybercell about it.
I was so upset becoz I had lot personal info in the phone and ofcourse its an expensive phone too.
Then i went home and started to search the web for something like findmyphone. Then I found this app.
( I had samsungdive installed but it did not give me the location info)
Installed this OTA in my phone and started tracking my phone.
Police was then able to follow my guide and was able to locate the phone.
All this was done free.
Had I not had this app it was garunteed lost.
EDIT : the best thing is that if you have a google account with android market in your phone , u can even install it after you loose ur phone
Here's an actual link to the app (why isn't it in the OP?):

And yes, you're giving the author of the app potentially full access to all the data on your phone.
Prey is another app that is more restrained but gives you similar features to track the devices, lock it down, erase it etc. It's also free.
Also, Lookout which also has a malware scanner.

The Smart IR Remote is not currently working with the LG G3. I inquired to the developers about the issue and here is their response:
"Hello Steven,
When LG updated their phones/tablets to Android 4.4 KitKat, they chose not to correctly implement the IR Blaster APIs Google introduced, thus making our app (and all other 3rd party apps) incompatible with phones like the G2/G3 or the G-Pad.
We've been in contact with LG and convinced them to grant us access to the IR Blaster and hopefully they will give us access in a month or so.

Mine works very well but as you said I have to point the IR light directly at the spot on my TV where it receives it.
I have a question for any of you that has direct TV. Is there a way to get the remove to show the guide?
I usually use the button reset to assign a key to one of the remote, but the ir app does not seem to identify any of the direct TV remote keys when you press it to the ir blaster. It works for every other remote I have. Is there a workaround for this?

We're also updating the app tomorrow on Google Play with support for the G3, so that everyone can get it from there too We've confirmed with multiple customers that it works, so we're pretty confident to do that.
Recording doesn't work, also because of limitations from LG. We're trying to get proper support for recording on the G3 and any kind of decent support for other LG devices (like the G2 and GPad 8.3), but that might be a while too.
Thanks for the help!

No, I mean once I set up my cable box, can I go to the guide, hit search, and then access a keyboard instead of having to use the arrow buttons to select a letter and spell out a show title letter by letter that I want to search for? Would like to be able to just type the show name on a keyboard in the app to make it easier/faster.
It has an fm radio, temperature, and humidity from what I found so far.

Next Radio does FM, but yes, it will stream if there is data. I tested Next Radio myself about a month ago briefly. I disabled data and wifi and picked a station -- a station came in. However, others tried to replicate it and even tried a different app and found it did not work. So I was left scratching my head.
On my HTC 10 which does have a FM tuner, nextradio will only work with headphones plugged in because it uses it for the antenna.
I tried NextRadio again (as I had last month with success) and found something interesting. Short answer is no... FM radio does not seem to be enabled.
Disable data AND WiFi prior to launching NextRadio -- radio comes in fine. However, I have a network traffic monitor screen overlay and I saw data still coming through despite no cellular data or wifi being enabled.
Turn on Airplane mode prior to launching NextRadio -- the app prompts me that it can't work while in airplane mode due to the radios being disabled.
Turn off Airplane mode, leaving WiFi and cellular data turned off, then launch NextRadio -- prompted with a message to enable data, indicating FM radio is not supported.
What I take from this is that WiFi and/or cellular data doesn't actually get turned off when you turn them off. Perhaps a bug?
Tried using this app on my PH-1 with the latest updates and no joy in finding anything with the Wifi and cell data off.
Isn't there an FM radio built into most (if not all) Qualcomm SoC's? I remember reading something a couple months back during of the of the hurricanes about enabling it/having a preinstalled app for it.

Yea, it's on nearly every device with a SOC. It just needs to be activated by the OEM.

Yes, it's pretty much there by default. But I had read in some teardowns that some OEMs don't physically connect the FM antenna, so even a software update wouldn't fix it. Unclear if that's the case on the Essential phone or even true anymore. I'm sure things are integrated more than they used to be.

aspect ratio issues and touch is in wrong place, could be a headunit reloaded bug or might be AA it self.

i've actually solved that issue now, just need to make sure the notch setting is not set to hidden, then it works fine.
Thank you
There are 2 bug reports about it, 1 is mine with photos the other is someone else's without photos

I should get mine tomorrow. I'll try it out and report back.

its working perfectly on my kenwood aftermarket head
THANK YOU. Was going to drive me nuts.
It works for me but it takes over a minute before it starts. The car does more see the device. Skoda Octavia Combi model 2018.
Anyone else has the same slow starts?
EDIT: fixed it! Disabling ADB debugging solves the delay (found out using logcat)
Works fine for me on 2018 Acura. Only issue, as referenced above, is if the notch is hidden, it cuts off the screen on the car's display.
Works fine in my [emoji176]Kia Rio 2018[emoji176]
Had to disable the notch hide... grrrr, works fine, not as snappy as my pixel 2 xl in android auto though, connected to 2018 Jeep
works fine on Chevy Volt 2017.
Yep is fine for me. Was tricky to initially pair but after I changed notch setting it worked. 2017 Mercedes.

Cool! I've never actually used Android Auto. (Mine's a much older system, so too prehistoric to have smart related stuff, but after seeing this, I'm now seriously thinking of upgrading). Does it give you access to all of the stuff on your android phone, or is it just basic stuff like syncing up music, etc?

Its a long-ish answer so just download the Android Auto app on your phone and see it in action. What you see on the phone running the app is what you see in the car (aside from integration with steering wheel buttons etc).
Work fine with Skoda Octavia 2018
It mostly works for me but I have to change the connection mode from USB charging to MPT every time I want to connect to my car. Otherwise, it won't detect the phone.
This is with a Honda Accord 2016. The car connection has the same issue with the OnePlus 3T but not with a Motorola phone that I tested.

Oh Ok, this sort of answers my question anyway. (so basically it's more of an app than a built-in full blown Android OS on a car stereo). In other words, limited features rather than a full OS.. Not alot of point for me then if that's all it does. (Mainly I would have used it for music and gps in the car, but I can already do that from my phone easily enough). But if it had been the whole Android OS that does literally everything my phone does, then that would have been totally worth it!
Thanks for the heads up though! What feature do you use yours for mostly?
