Scrolling smoothness - OnePlus 2 Real Life Review

Some phones exhibit choppy scrolling, especially when navigating long web pages when multiple apps are running in the background. Rate this thread to express how you smooth scrolling feels on the OnePlus 2 under such conditions. A higher rating indicates that scrolling is always buttery smooth, even when you're reading a 10,000 word article on "how to kiss a girl".
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!

It's pretty finicky. Apps like 9gag are very smooth but Instagram is laggy. It had always been the other way around on other phones for me.

Its generally very smooth throughout different apps. Any lags is due to the loading of new content, which is probably why you see stutters in apps like Facebook, Instagram, and what not.
Also how is your phone set up? Running AK Kernel greatly improves overall UI fluidity as well.

Everything stock. I wanted to try AK but I'm a bit sceptical about fast charge it has, won't it wear down the phone faster? Have you tried Boeffa or sandy kernel? Do they have good scrolling too?

I tried AK and boeffla only, so I dunno about Sandy. But it honestly the scrolling cant be any worse than the stock kernel. The fast charging can be disabled (In fact I think its disabled by default) and since OxygenOS 2.1.1 users have reported that the default charging speed is already faster than before.
AK Kernel also unlocks all the cores of the Snapdragon 810 so you should also see better performance in games. Best of all you'll probably get better battery life out of your phone as well.

I have to agree that the new update (2.1.2) + AK kernel make the phone feel perfect for me. I am really enjoying it now and I have absolutely no more issues (home button, lag, etc.).

To be honest, I am happy with the way it is now.
But, yeah... M on the phone does sound awesome. However though, I am expecting some new bugs with the OS ... so for now I am enjoying a BUG free phone

I highly recommend Calkulin+Clemsyn OC/UV kernel (1.5 ghz) rom

So, after people started reporting that their benchmarks are in the 3000's, I decided to flash from ginger RC1 and holy cow this is freakin' fast. Even before I ran the quadrant test everything felt so fast. Twice as fast as vegan gingerbread. I wanted to run the quadrant with all the apps and stuff that I'd be running (quickoffice, dolphin, etc.) and holy cow benchmark was still in the 3000's every time.
I ain't moving to any other rom until someone finds something faster.
Does the unit feel warm or hot ? The rated CPU clock speed is 1.2 (or 1.0, not sure). I am a bit concerned about overclocking to 1.5 at higher voltage. In addition, what apps that were slow and are needing this kind of power ?
Thanks
Sweet.. but honestly with out video drivers for gingerbread its utterly pointless for me :O( Keep us updated on how stable it is :O)

Since when did we "need" anything? The gtab will work just fine with the stock rom. But with a custom rom, it works better. The clakulin+clemsyn v3 combo works even better. I just like the raw power that it gives me.
Added by edit.
But to answer your questions, doesn't feel warm or hot to me at all. Battery life is undoubtedly reduced, although I'm still trying to determine by how much. Stand by for this.

I was concerned about heat and the case feels a bit warmer but not significantly. I guess we will see over time. I would say battery life is reduced but I don't have any numbers. The devs have included a nifty OC profile based on battery life. This is my new favorite rom.
This combo is crazy fast. I scored a 3521 on quadrant. I have been running it for 24 hrs now with no issues. Does not seem to be running hot at all. Battery life seems fine but Im sure it is using more juice.

Here. Nuff said.
Edit.
Keep in mind that I've already installed apps like quickoffice and such. In other words, if I had ran this test right after I flashed this rom I'm sure the score would have been higher.
Here you go: 4484, that beats 345 xooms even overclocked . Oh my.
Sorry about the resolution. I didn't know if I posted at full size if the picture would be huge or not.
Sent from my UPC300-2.2 using Tapatalk
How the flying pigs did you get it up to 4484?
Ok, so I ran it a few more times and it seemed a little sluggish as I had been putting it through its paces today . I shut it down and rebooted. I just ran it 3 times in a row. My lowest score after letting it sit for a bit was 4521, best of the 3 was 4665! Yikes.

I am also using and loving this rom. Love the smooth video with Froyo (but wish it could work with Ginger).
It feels slightly warmer than before I think, but the temp sensor never reads above 87 degrees F, which has to be a safe operating temp, right?
Consistently getting ~3500 quadrants with many apps.

Listen to me very carefully. The devs are doing this on their own time without getting paid. Us lowly humans don't wish anything. Ok? Clemsyn said he was going to do ginger soon, and that's his choice. We don't wish anything. Ok? He's not obligated to do anything. What he's done for froyo is way way way beyond what he's suppose to do, which is nothing. Ok? He made it clear just last week that his intention was to return the gtab and move on with his life. He then decided to stick around and created new roms that are almost twice as fast as previous roms.
If you're disappointed, then Clemsyn could just drop the whole thing and leave. If you're disappointed, please go buy an ipad 2, ok?
In fact, I highly recommend against getting a gtab for most people. I promise, you will not be disappointed with the ipad 2. Love you long time. Go, put the disappointment of a device gtab up on ebay and go out and buy the ipad 2 now, please, before you get any more disappointed.

Very nice. Xoom owners will hate you for sure.
Thank you and others for posting scores.
Very fast. Always loved Calkulin's ROM, and I've come home after playing with Vegan GB for a while (also a great ROM). It also appears that the OC settings work with pershoot's OC kernel as well. I love the fact that it clocks based on battery life.

Geez guy, did you wake up on the wrong side of the bed this morning? It's not like he posted a long harrasing write up for Gingerbread. It was subtle just like you should be. Chill out please.
On that note does anyone have a video of this "Beast ROM" in action?
Wish I could get this combo running. I have been running C&C 1.1+v9 for awhile now and love it. I can't get any of the OC kernals running. The only way I can get this to boot is to install the C&C OC combo and before booting I have to install Clemsyn's v9 kernal. I can't get Pershoots 1.4 ghz kernel running either.
The best I have gotten was with the C&C combo and then installing Clemsyn's OC Extra kernal and I can get to the HC animated boot screen but it never gets past that. My son and I bought our gtabs the same day and his runs all the OC kernels.. Oh Well...

Desire Z or Nexus S??

Should I trade in my Desire Z for the Nexus S?
I'm mostly after browser speed and everyday performance
What happened to the nexus sense port? I had a galaxy S before and it was always slower to the original desire but with ginger on the NS it just might do the trick.
Are you guys satisfied with the NS especially coming from other android devices?
If browsing speed is your priority, I would suggest you wait a bit. Currently the stock browser is rather laggy.
Laggy even with overclock, custom roms (cyanogen, nscollab and infinity) ?
Does cyanogen have the auto text reflow function?
I use my Nexus S since 3 months. It's fabulous.
Choose the right ROM and Kernel! It will be smoothest!
Great experience during 2 days without any charge or FC.
GNS is a very nice device. Buy GNS and flash CM, then enjoy)
Nexus S all the way. Desire Z is old news. I'd rather choose Desire S
Personally it was a bad idea to ask for an advice in a nexus s forum . lol.
anyway, a fair answer for me would be, there is no big deal of a difference between the 2 phones. If you were to buy one of these, then i would have said nexus s but since you already possess the dz, then no need to make the change. speedwise they are the same. the difference maybe comes from the gpu but you said you are only for browsing experience. i think you should stick to the dz until you get something better.
you do have amazing devs back there... i am sure finding a good custom rom is not a problem.
Just 3 hours ago, SuperAOSP Rom created by SUPERTAMEL, has changed the whole browser system
No more lagging issue, just pure enjoyment of browsing
I guess, you come to Nexus S in the right time
Development on the Desire Z has pretty much stalled with the keyboard being the biggest limitation. Even the Desire has better roms for gingerbread. I've owned a SGS before and the browser was indeed a little slow so I should expect performance to be on par to that. The SGS wasn't that bad but I switched to the Z mainly because of the LED flash which is very important to me as a flashlight
What ever happened to the NS sense port? I was looking at some vids over at youtube and they looked really smooth with some minor issues and non working features but nevertheless usable! Was the 0.3 build the one that caused the problem with the IMEI? What exactly happened?
What's the difference in real life performance between SuperAOSP, INfinity and Cyan?
Netarchy is the best kernal option available right? In layman's terms, what does proton voltage do and how do I know what settings to use?
Thanks for helping a NS noobie

Well, sadly that Samsung has put the most important file "EFS" at a very insecure place. And, we never realise that until we find that Nexus Sense has "wiped" the whole EFS data too, making all the IMEI number being the same

SUperAOSP, is the rom created with extra setting known as SupSetup
Infinity is created by Jonathan Griggs where he is very keen in ANdroid and added lots of different features.
Cyan 7 is the nightly build where different bugs and fixes are keep updated and fixed.
Kang's Cyan is the lighter and better version of Cyan 7.
Muiu is the Iphone version of Android (Use this rom if you like iOS interface)

Netarchy or Trinity. Both are equally good.
Both has OC and UV kernel.
Proton voltage let you customize the voltage you wanna set for each frequency and it's only usable for Netarchy kernel.

I come from a desire and i am very much dissapointed in the browsing experience of this phone. It's not hardware accelerated so rendering flash content or bigger images is a pain. If your only looking for that, better stick with the desire z. I've tried all roms btw and I always end up using opera mobile.

So no real difference in performance between cm7, kangs, infinity and superaosp except preference? What's the best rom for me if I need BLN and vibrate on call answer?
How do I know the best settings for photon? Or can I just use default?
Finally got my phone and this thing is wicked fast! I've never experienced a phone out of the box this good! Screen is yellowish as usual though Speakerphone volume is excellent as well!
Browser seems to be very good, not super fluid but good enough. Not as stuttery as my old SGS. Mighty tempted not to flash a custom rom because it's already very good!
Cm7 is recommended, it will change the experience totally and it has text reflow after zoom. I personally use the nightlies a lot but it's up to you, they might be laggy sometimes.

Or you can use mine too.
I tested and using it for 3 weeks haven had any reboots or lag.
-100mv for 100,200,400,800mhz
-50mv for 1000,1200
1400mv for 1300
1450mv for 1400

Thanks for the help guys really really big help I really really appreciate it!
The browser on superaosp is much smoother but I encountered some instances wherein it just would not scroll the page even after swiping the screen multiple times. Perhaps it's the way I swiped the screen? switching to my left hand which was holding the phone made it much better.
BLN and vibrate on answer working perfectly!

Im pretty satisfied with this phone at the moment, with my headphones on this thing can produce way better audio than any HTC phone I have tried. Bass is booming and vocals are rich.
My only quip is the battery which never reaches 100 percent like my old SGS. A calibration should do the trick..I hope.

[Q] Dlev Stability

I have S7 right now. If anyone has switched, or used both, if you could answer the following...
-Battery Life, how does it compare between the two?
-Smoothness, once again, how does it compare? I normally run 1.4Ghz OC, so I know that might help butter things up.
-Stability, any problems besides the no sound first call? It seems to be getting updated regularly, which is awesome.
That's all for now

I really liked S7 but it just decided one day that it was not gonna work. Everything started force closing. So I moved to CM7 but it was good. As for Dlev I didn't like the looks of it. So I was on it like maybe 1 hour or so didn't have issue with in that hour.

I've been on both and I like things about both.
S7 - Good battery life, great stability, great performance..
--It is outdated, sometimes has the battery drain bug.
Dlev - Excellent battery life, like the theme, great stability, is sometimes "choppy", is newer version the S7.
--The developer is active and fixing problems.
If S7 was 2.3.4 or 2.3.5 JVT/JVT it would definitely be my choice of ROM.
I would go for DLEV since it's 2.3.4 and doesn't have the battery drain bug, and has a lot of great features.
MIUI ftw...much better in my opinion. Battery life can be tweaked with setCPU settings so that pretty much fixes that...only issue is that 3d in rendered like 10000000000 times slower so games WILL lag A LOT. other than that...every other category you can think of is A+. Unbeatable in smoothness, theme management and eye candy. It is stable too I have not encountered any situations where it got unstable unless u overclock it to 1600 at 1600mV! That will kill it right away, but yeah...MIUI rocks. One more thing i dont like is that it like half the themes are chinese and there is no AOSP theme all of them have wierdo icons and stuff so that is pretty much really annoying.
Only problem for me is usb connectivity. Tried it without debugging on and all I got was a kies screen with no recognition from my pc (win7). With debugging on it just goes to a charge. I'm gonna play around with it some more, but everything else is super clean and smooth.

This guy ^^ really loves his MIUI lol but yes I've had both...Dlev, didn't like the theme of it and for some reason was choppy every other boot or so, and had data issues, got tired of it and flashed S7 and haven't changed since. Great battery, stability, speed, only negative is its still 2.3.3, not really a big deal for me.

I came from S7 to Dlev about a week ago. I had HUGE battery drain problems with S7 that weren't being fixed with a reboot, or uninstalling apps. I've been extremely happy with Dlev, paired with the Daily Driver kernel the battery life is very good, and the kernel makes charging faster. I have had no stability problems with the new update, I had some problems with the first one and the Touch Wiz launcher (fixed with a re-install). The new version has Go Launcher EX installed, which is an excellent theme-able launcher with lots of eye candy tweaks. Smoothness even at stock speed with all animations is good, would be even better if overclocked.
Dlev is the best for me, which has been running great all the time. I have not tried CM7, but since Dlev is actually based off of the captivate (very like the Infuse if you did not know), which seems like it would work better with the Fuse. Ha Mohammad_Adib knows I like it so much this from Android Forums ha. I would probably be running Infused though, because I just like the feel of running a rom that is actually meant for the Infuse, but with no updates for now I just have nothing to look forward to on that rom, where Dlev may just be my fav now.

well I placed the issue of Pandora in there so perhaps someone who uses the phone the same way could input on what they use and that its comparable to what I am looking for.
I would just dump rom after rom until I find something but time for me is super precious these next couple months.
A chart is great but remember Im not using a lot of the features the charts will describe.
Im only using it for google voice (to see my calls in the gym), pandora, play store, and play music, then some web browsing of course.
I actually turned off all the phone and data features to hopefully conserve battery life.

Still just hoping someone who is utilizing the same features I am can drop in and give their input. Not saying any rom is bad or better just looking to save some time, Im on the road a lot the next few months and the gym is my only real down time. Last night it was quite frustrating dealing with pandora.

Devil Kernel for 4.4 here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=46810981&postcount=452

I just tried this version, and it does seem a bit faster than the original AOSP.. It is fast, but not very smooth, as scrolling seems rather jittery...

Try Illusion 3/16 ( I made a bootable version, as the original had a flaw in the updater script, link is on the page) and flash the boot.img from your AOSP rom.. I was getting 5500's in antutu on stock speeds and 6500's overclocked, smooth scrolling and better battery life as well...
Don't try Devil with this rom as it breaks the playstore..
fastest of them all
no need for custom kernel just boot up latest nightlie from Cyanfox and cyanfox gapps and it's the fastest 4.4 rom for nexus s there is ! !!:laugh:

I haven't tested Cyanfox since 2.02, it is a quick rom.. the site is down, gearing up for version 3, I wonder if our device will still be supported?.. C-rom is very fast with Devil kernel, (the initial release, the second release is slightly slower than the first) and has tested higher than any rom I've tried to date, even higher than when I tested Cyanfox.. If our device is supported in version 3, I hope the rotation bug is fixed..

Jittery/laggy scrolling

Hi, I just got a OP6 on Friday and it really is an amazing device, but no matter what app I'm in, I get extremely stuttery/jittery scrolling. It happens in Settings, Chrome, XDA, basically anything that has a list or scrolls. Is there any way to fix this? I'm on OxygenOS 5.1.9, I've tried rooting and installing kernels and I keep having the same problem. Is this a known issue? Because it's kinda ridiculous to pay over $500 for a phone that scrolls worse than my 2 year old pixel. So if anyone has any ideas on how to fix this, it would be greatly appreciated, thank you.
try doing a cache clean or fresh install because this isn't normal and it should run smooth like mine does.

I've done a full install from fastboot, but I'll wipe cache and see if that helps, thank you.
I noticed it as well.
Franco Kernel helped a bit, especially using Pixel launcher (which is buttery smooth on the Pixel 2)
But the phone isn't as smooth as a Pixel 2 or iPhone X in terms of scrolling inside apps or even launcher.
It shows some frame drops regardless if rooted or not. Seen the same on another OP6 (mine has 128gb his has 64gb).
Clearing cache probably won't help.
Here's to hope the Android P update helps.
And use Samsung Browser instead of Chrome.
Way smoother

I really hope the Android p update helps. On 8.1 my pixel was laggy, kinda similar to the OP6, but after P, it's the smoothest phone I've ever had, definitely hopeful. I'll see about Franco kernel, I'll try it after work, thanks for the suggestion!

maybe its because i never owned a pixel that i cant see the jitter but i came from a galaxy with touchwiz so i think this oneplus is butterly smooth
Definitely agree also seeing jittery scrolling, custom kernels do help a bit but it's still there.
My 120hz iPad Pro is to blame, everything else seems really bad now!
Yh, you definitely have to see it in relation to other devices. Me coming from Touchwiz devices, the phone feels amazing, but knowing how buttery smooth an iPhone X is or Pixel 2 was, it's not that amazing anymore.

Has anyone tried any AOSP or LOS based ROMs that remedy this?

I have tried 3 custom roms and they are all worse than OOS in my experience for smoothness and scrolling lag.

Oh well, didn't expect this.
Anyways preferring the OnePlus ROM feature set.

I thought it weas just me but I notice the jittery when scrolling slowly in chrome or the android central app. Its not bad, but noticeable.
Test
This has been present in every OnePlus device since the 3/3T. It's an Oxygen OS issue.
But it's good that more people are finally noticing it, as there's a chance that it'll be fixed... You'll just have to pay for the OnePlus 7 to get that fix
Even a Samsung S8 has smoother scrolling sadly. It's quite annoying. Using a different browser isn't a solution, as I rely a lot on Chrome anyway, but it also runs smoothly on many Android One devices such as the Nokia 7 Plus.
The P beta had the same poor scrolling performance, but hopefully they at least try to fix it for the final version. It's the least smooth device I've used in the last 2 years, but also the fastest... So you can kinda see where their priorities lie. They'd take an extra 0.049ms faster app opening time over 60fps scrolling.
Hi all, I came from a series of Xiaomi Phones (Redmi, MiMax etc.) - and I find the scrolling very smooth. Maybe just some devices have this problem? I have hovewer jittery backlight when in night mode (see my other post) which is bothering me quite a bit
I remembered this being a hot topic before. Wasn't the "solution" to set the CPU governor to be Conservative instead?

Apparently not anymore because that made it a bit worse lol. Considering selling the device because it's kinda ridiculous to have top specs and such poor scrolling performance.
I'm having no scrolling problems... And I had the pixel 2 XL and that **** was laggy.
Same problem here, been jittery since day one for me, and I got mine as soon as it released. Was thinking about returning it, but then decided that it was probably due to my over-sensitive eyes. The smoothest rom that I have tried was OmniRom. It's actually a decent rom, but single touch responsiveness was bad for me. I would sometimes have to touch the screen a few times just for the touch to register. Right now I'm using franco kernel in performance mode with fsync disabled on RiCE 4.4 and it's a little better.

Came around with these settings while using profile gpu rendering:
Dynamic Stune Boost 1
GPU governor: cpufreq
What that basically does is boosting the CPU slightly more while touch input and kinda syncing gpu boost with the now higher CPU boost.
According to the Profile GPU overlay the stutters are greatly reduced, especially in lawnchair Launcher (App drawer animation) and Facebook.
All using Franco kernel V4
Worst kernel I've tried was Smurf kernel with some extreme frame drops.
