HTC One A9 Battery life and SOT - HTC One A9

Post here your findings with the A9 in daily use; or discuss methods to improve battery life (settings, etc)
How much screen-on time do you get? How long does your battery last through the day, with what type of usage?
Mention also your ROM version pls.
If possible, post screenshot from GSAM or similar app.
inspired by similar thread for the M9 here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/one-m9/general/battery-sot-t3067585
ps: I am in the process of chosing a new phone, which could very well be an M9 or A9.

I'm generally a fairly heavy user and I've been very pleased so far with battery life. This phone and OS have so far been much better at preserving battery when asleep and it charges much faster even from standard chargers.

Well I am more then pleased, and if you use the phone as a game console only and watch videos, then it uses more power, but it is a phone right?

Thanks for replies. If possible, please post numbers (screenshots appreciated).
E.g. how much screen on time in a day, how much % left when going to bed without recharging all day.
+ add ROM version, whether 2gb or 3gb RAM...
you know, the essentials to make comments comparable.
Personally I am still on a 2.5y old One X+ that I want to replace. I don't game but need about 4h SOT (browsing, social apps, ...) without recharging. Today, I need to recharge every day during the day, and I want to put that behind me. In gsmarena battery test, the One A9 scored barely better than the X+, and worse than M9. That has me worried.
/ Updated to add: I also need all day mobile internet on 3g/4g, and 1 hour streaming radio (tunein radio app) with screen off). Maybe in future all day bluetooth for a connected watch? /
Cheers

Thx. I updated my requirements though. I'd been too brief
besides, this thread is meant to collect data from many users, to provide usage examples to all potential buyers

From my experience my a9 battery usage is impressive when the screen is off, but when the screen is on it's worse than hTc one M8
in the M8 the SOT I got is between 5 to 7 hours, and in my new a9 the SOT is 4 to 5 hours per full cycle!
this 4 hours screen I used them in 1 day and half, with all time wifi and sometimes 4G Data when I go out.
I will post Gsam battery stats in the next couple days.

Marshmallow's doze mode works as advertised, with seemingly infinite standby times. But there's only about four hours of SOT in the tiny battery, maybe almost five if you're miserly.

That's about like my M9, which is what I expected with the A9. M8 was way better on battery than the M9.

810 is a battery hog. All that heat is wasted power.
But there's no excuse on the A9. Anybody could tell you a 2150mah battery isn't gonna last long. Would it really have been that big a deal to make the phone 2mm thicker and put a 2500 in it?

Yeah, I agree. Personally, I would rather a phone the same size and the M9, with a 2840 battery, but with the 617 proc. But I'm probably not exactly who HTC was targeting with this device, either.
I was just saying that I think HTC decided that if the A9 battery performance matched the M9 then that was good enough. Once I faced fact that the M8 performance was a thing of the past, the M9 has actually been decent for me, using a custom Rom and flar's ElementalX kernel.

Day 1:
I unplugged my A9 at 7am.
3 minutes of scrolling through facebook. Then drive to work.
7pm the phone vibrates and tells me I have 15% battery life.
I made 4 phone calls all less then 5 minutes. Turned the screen on maybe 10 times to do a time check. And spent a good 15 minutes on break scrolling facebook.
12 hours of almost non use...
Then the fast power dump came.
My 20 minute drive home it went from 14% to 2%.
This is crazy.... I may have to return this thing and get my M8 back.

That battery will definitely be sufficient for the "average user" (by average I mean 9 to 5 day job with 1 hr lunch break and a 1 hr commute from home to work) that listens to music or watches movies on their way to work, uses their phone on their 30 minute or hour break, and watches movies/listens to music on their way home. Your battery stats are pretty good for 24 hours. The "average person" is out the house for about 12-14 hours a day and have time to plug unto the wall for atleast 15 minutes. If you can charge your phone for just 15-20 minutes while you eat on break (like most smartphone owners probably do already) with quick charge 2.0 (and soon to be 3.0) you'll have more than enough battery to last the day, and some, until you get home to charge for the night.
People who are complaining about the battery life must use android wear devices, wireless headsets, and keep your bluetooth on all day , and/or, are business men who are always traveling and don't have time to charge your phone, outside of those reasons I don't see why someone would need an incredibly large battery. I think that the fact that Android devices have been known for poor battery life for a very long time and people are expecting android 6.0 to be just as "battery hogging" which is why they think the 2150 battery is too small. Efficiency plays a huge factor that people are just ignorant to because they haven't used a marshmallow device or an iphone to understand it. Small batteries CAN last the day with the right operating system. Apple puts small batteries in their devices to maximize profit, but what if they put a 3200 mAh battery in an iphone 6s. the battery would probably last 2 full days with average usage. Point being the efficiency of android M seems to work wonders here. I'm wondering how much longer the Galaxy s6 battery will last after it receives the M update.
And to those who claim they don't have enough time to charge their phone or "find it annoying" to have to charge through out the day, you sound ridiculous. There are car chargers for people who drive, somewhat large (and affordable) portable chargers for people who commute via public transportation. Quick quick charging 2.0 & 3.0 . all you need to do is charge for 15 minutes, if needed, throughout the day and then you should be fine.
All in all, the average user should be fine with this phone. For you people that want a 4K display phone with a snapdragon 850 with a clock speed of 3.5GHz, along with 1 week battery life and 56 hours of screen on time for under $450, need to just pack it up. It's 2015 not 2051. Every phone will have its pros and cons. That's reality. If this phone isn't for you, then it isn't for you. Simple.

If this even is true, then you have a bad unit, I use mine like u describe and I got atleast 70% left when I come home from work.

At first I thought battery life sucked, but turned out to be a couple of bad apps (Sony life log and smartband). I ditched them and now getting similar life to my M8.
Last night I fully charged it then unplugged it to see how much charge it lost over night, so over 7.5 hours it lost just 2%. , which compared to the m8 (lost 9%) I'm pretty impressed.
Charge rate seems better too but could that be because it's such a small battery?

I checked the battery use last night. Facebook. ( Which surprisingly didn't come loaded) used 46% of my battery Yesterday ( Per Battery Use stats. ).
There is a good chance it is hogging. ???
As it stands now. I had the same morning and now I'm at 82%. It's been off the charger for 2.5 hours and I've only responded to a facebook message.
I have already turned off unnecessary settings to include enhanced 4G LTE calling .
Hopefully I'll see how it goes.
My screen is on minimum and it has already dropped from 82% to 80% in the time it took to write this.
This kind of feels like the Old days when the HTC EVO came out.

That is NO news about fb app. Never used it never will.

After a couple of days of usage, the phone is doing about ok for me. Screen on time is just as bad as phone idle time is good. Put them together and they are lasting my average work day.
Had plugged it out yesterday at 7 in the morning and when I returned at 5, it was 33% which is acceptable , given that it had been on Wifi and 4G through the day.
I just left it unplugged from the charger last night and the Doze feature really shines through. Screen shot attached.

Is it worth upgrading from m8 to a9?
Im thinking of getting the new a9 but dont know wrther to get an m9 instead. I am currently using an m8 but want to upgrade. Should i get an m9 or a9? Im sticking to htc phones as i like the desighn.

[Q] Real World Battery Life

Fellow MT4GS users,
How is your battery lasting you? I'm coming from a MT4G, even though I eventually modded it, and it I used to get at least a full day and have to charge that night at the worst unless I really heavily used it.
My MT4GS has been lasting me half a day or so before I get into the yellow/red and I'm usually charging before the sun goes down.
My main culprit according to the built in battery indicator is display at 65% (I'm on automatic brightness)
Just over 10 hours today for me before I had to charge.
ps- Anyone know how to remove the annoying low power notifications? I'm getting two pop ups in a row.
Yeah mine generally lasts about 14 hours at moderate usage, but it's only been 2 days, and I remember when I got the MyTouch 4G it died on me while I was still at work and then after a week or so it got much better...
Yeah, I can agree with you there I think my MT4G was a little wonky the first week or so. We'll see how it goes.

Only lasting 6 hours yesterday ....
My battery lasted about 33 hours. After the 1st full charge. So way better than my other phones have done. This wasnt heavy usage though. No videos or music just a few calls, lots of emails and some web browsing.
One problem I am having is low call volume. My videos and music are perfectly loud, just the call volume sucks.

Well make sure, your phones screen brightness is on low. Also make sure wifi, gps, bluetooth are off. Also make sure you kill some of the apps you ran on a task manager. just gotta find ways to keep the battery life up.
Well when I first got the phone, I didnt charge it until it was almost dead. Then fully charged it.
Also I turned off GPS, WiFi ect. I also use task manager to kill background programs that I don't need or want running.
We will see if the battery life goes down after a few weeks. Sometimes they take time to normalize.
Oh what task you ended and what task manger you used?

I appreciate the help but the logic is off. This is the latest ..and i stress smartttphone. It is supsupposed to be used as such. Bluetooth ..4g..music...video calling..maps..etc.. if u use of of these features six hours it will last. If you use them all try maybe 4 hours. Plus those boxes are annoying when the batterly is low. This phone has got to be rooted.

I'm gonna have to agree with that one, that's pretty much no different than saying buy a car but don't drive it so you can save gas lol
I have gotten to around 12 hours or more now. Still moderate overall but heavier browser usage.
I do not kill tasks or turn off wifi, gps or anything. My brightness is auto.
I uninstalled the recent maps update because I saw where G2 users seem to think the recent update is draining their battery so I wondered if it could maybe be causing issues here too.
Anyways my battery life has gotten into the acceptable range and that was all I really did other than have more days to monitor it.

This appears to be the same battery that is in the Sensation 4G according to Google.
For us this is good because Ebay and Amazon are already flooded with replacement batteries.
We need to find a higher capacity mAh battery but with the same size as to not make us have to get a replacement back. This shouldn't be that hard.
My old phone has a smaller battery with a higher mAh capacity so the battery in the myTouch 4G Slide is an utter disappointment. They could have easily produced a 3000 mAh battery for this beast of a phone.
Edit: Found a 1900 mAh battery for only 9.99.

Screen is on the least bright setting. I'm an ex blackberry user and dont even have one app. I could care less about apps. I'm charging every 5 hours and thats sometimes from just it sitting around/ not even using the phone. The thing better get it's act together. I'm starting to like the keyboard too but I'm up at 5am and if im charging at noon that's terrible. Especially with minimal use.

Weird I live in small city and 4G is crazy fast. When I get to a big city like Baltimore, Maryland the 4G was slow. My thoughts are there too many people on the 4G network. T-Mobile did promised us double the 4G speed and they need more Towers too.
~
For the first couple days, my battery life was awful. I'd be getting low-bat notifications when I got home from an 8-hour day at work.
But of course that's always the case with new phones that haven't even had the settings tweaked...
- Placed a Wifi toggle widget on the homepage and turn it off every day after leaving home for work in the morning.
- Ensured certain programs and updates were not running in the background automatically:
~ Turned off Autosync on accounts (manual only)
~ Turned off autoupdates for weather
~ No Bluetooth, GPS, Wifi, unless turned on for a specific reason
~ Enabled power efficiency and power saver modes (30%)
~ Disabled Always-on data connection
~ Disabled auto-updates in various apps (Friendcaster, IM+ Pro, etc.)
- Turned the screen off when not in use
Today I'm at 40% after 14 hours of mixed use. I'd say that's DAMN good.
By the way, for those seeing the whole "Autosync off" thing and thinking that you can't do it, just do it. I don't get my work email or personal email on my phone unless I tell it to and it's utterly awesome. Less stress. Less looking at my phone constantly. It feels free and just plain great. And I used to be superconnected 24/7 syncing every 5 minutes (if push wasn't available).

Display uses most of my battery.

So I've acquired an HTC Sensation and have unlocked, rooted, and installed a few ROMs so far. Stock, CM7.1, and Android Revolution HD. That last one is the one I'm on.
My battery life sucks. Whereas my Blackberry Bold 9700 would go one to two days with constant, heavy usage, this phone gets about 4 to 6 hours. My battery graph says that Display is using 80% to 90% of my battery. I've turned off auto-adjust and set the brightness to minimum, it hasn't helped. Am I ****ed?
I've tried other things, underclocked to 1Ghz, different ROMs, battery calibration, no HTC Sense account, no friendstream, disabled background data and autosync. I've tried everything, and yet the display is totally destroying my battery. Keep in mind too, I mentioned the Blackberry, but I've had Android experience before. I'm not a total noob, and I'm not a pro.
EDIT: If you've got semi-****ty battery, check my last post on page 2. It might help ya out. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=19062683&postcount=20
That's an LCD screen for you. It will always be the biggest power consumer of this phone. I believe that in general, the screen will always be the biggest power consumer of a phone, but LCD is especially bad. It doesn't help that the Sensation has an average-sized battery either.
That said, I can't believe your battery life is that bad, considering you've underclocked, tried different ROMs, calibrated the battery (although I've heard that this can actually decrease batt life), and disabled background data. Make sure you have matching radio + ril in case you haven't yet. I just can't believe that if you're doing all those battery saving tricks at the same time that your batt life would still be bad. Or did you try those things by themselves? You should try several things at once, but I'm assuming you already have.
LCD screen tech really needs to hit the grave. I like qHD resolution, but otherwise I hate the Sensation's screen. I don't get why so many Sensation owners think it's a good screen. LCD is absolutely worthless outside - I turn brightness all the way up and I can still hardly see it. I don't care if SAMOLED has oversaturated colors - as long as it's usable in any conditions I think it's better. Not only is SAMOLED much brighter and usable, it is much more power efficient than LCD. Honestly the screen alone of the Galaxy Nexus is making me consider it just because I hate the Sensation's screen that much (as well as other things about this phone).
I'm doing them all at once. I flashed the radio that mike (author of the ROM I'm using) suggested because he said the RIL file(s) are built in.
I'll post a battery stats screen cap when I can, but I don't have the means to do so right now.

Edit: There it is. Normally, I don't partial charge, but I had to take it off briefly a few minutes ago. As you can see, it was hitting critical levels around 5 hours in before I threw it back on the charger. The line drops steadily usually when the display is being used.
Here's the shot that claims Display is the culprit.
I feel like android never goes into detail as to how much being on 4G drains your batteries. If you switch to EDGE (2G) only, you could see an improvement in battery life. You can get to it from Settings>Wireless Networks>Mobile Data.
If that doesn't work out for you, consider trying out Juice Defender on the market, it's helped me extend my battery life a considerable amount. It does nothing while you're using your phone, but when your screen is off, it'll disable mobile data, and every 15 min (or 30, you could change this in settings), the phone will enable mobile data for a minute so Facebook/Twitter/Messenging Apps can sync.
Aside from that, you can try turning down the brightness levels.
If you're willing to shell out a little cash, your next option would be to cop an Anker battery from eBay or Amazon. This would help the most, imo.
I have tried many things but so far the biggest thing to affect my battery life is disabling bluetooth. That alone takes about 2% per hour of battery life even if I never use it. My usage is light with some games, mail, and texting. Included is a snapshot of today's random usage. I don't know why but my display isn't listed in the snapshot.
One thing I would check is the spare parts app that hopefully is included in android. Look at the battery history->other usage->since last unplugged. Specifically the percentage of running. Mines says running is 12%, screen on is 4%, wifi on is 83%. If your phone is 100% running, then it is never going to sleep.
Is the Sensation a 4G device? if so, which carrier?
Not real 4G, max speed 14.4 mbps where available for TMOUS.

Ur comparing the sensation to a bb 9700? 9700 is not dual core or a 4.3 inch screen. Androids typically have the worst battery life when compared to iPhones and blackberrys. Also HTC phones usually have the worst battery life out of all the android phones.
How long have u had ur phone? Have u gone through at least 5 charging cycles? Did u calibrate ur battery after flashing new roms?

I have the same problem, more or less.
I had a great improvement installing "juice defender", this app cutting off the 3g as soon as the screen is off, putting it on once every hour to chek mail etc.
try it.
it's an improvement, but my battery drain remain awful. I had a HTC HD2, and was used to 4-6 ma, now, if it's under 80, i'm happy...
Turn the brightness down. I only use auto brightness in the daylight. I used a app called dimmer to turn the brightness down to 10. The minimum setting the phone will allow is 30 so dimmer turns it down more. The dimmer app is nice it switches brightness down to 10 and the next click sets it back, so I have it switch between auto and 10. Full brightness will kill your battery fast.

I never directly compared them, I'm just sharing my past experiences. I never expected the sensation to come even close in battery life.
anyhow, ill try juice defender and my Bluetooth and brightness are off and set to low. it just sucks cause I seem to only lose a lot when the screen is on, but I don't want to blame S-LCD because this seems to only affect a small percentage of users.
worst case scenario, ill buy a new battery. thanks everyone for taking a look, please excuse the grammar, on my sensation right now
@OP... don't worry about battery life. I am in the same scene as you are...
Running an HD game would drain by battery in 2 to 3 hrs with lowest brightness and everything off.. My only problem is low network signal...
if you start using your mobile as laptop like playing games etc then you get as much time as a laptop gives u... But if you use it as a phone, out will do all say..
So either change device or line with it..
In Android Revolution the kernel spends the battery. You can flash the bricked kernel and you will see the battery life in normal use under 20 hours. You can find it under android development for sensation here in xda. I flashed yesterday and with wifi on and all sync on I have 45%. 12 hours from the last charge.

I will most definitely try this when I return from work. I may have to flash cyanogenmod, which seems to give me slightly better life. is the stock AR HD kernel really that bad?
edit: okay I went ahead and flashed the bricked kernel while at work. hope it helps, but I lost 10% battery to do it and I'm down to 20% left. we'll see how it does.
From what I read we have a new faux kernel. You can check it after bricked.
Hey guys. Small update.
I am recalibrating the battery, again, yet something special is happening this time. I ran the phone down and it played a 1080p video on max brightness with wifi, bluetooth, gps, background data all on. It played the video for 15 to 20 minutes while sitting at 0%! Now, I'm currently recharging it and best part, it's been at 100% and still charging, orange LED and all, for about 40 minutes now. Considering my charger charges at .75A an hour, thats something like .50ish A, or 500mAH that I didn't have before. That could explain my pathetic battery life. Imagine if it charges at 100% for an hour! That's 750 mAH that I lost due to bad calibration, half my battery!
Hopefully with a few more cycles, and some good luck, my battery meter will correct itself and I'll see regular battery life!
edit: Two hours In, I'm overclocked to 1.5ghz, have max brightness, wifi, GPS, Bluetooth all on. background data and auto sync enabled. the screen has been on almost the entire time. current battery? 40%! that's with constant interaction, at times, I was playing games and listening to music at the same time. I mean Im using this phone to the max and its performing incredibly.
in real life, I will underclock to 1 or 1.2ghz (still an underclock since the system is clocked at 1.5ghz default) and wont have the screen on the entire time, so I shouldn't have a hard time making it through a day with moderate to heavy use I also never really use BT and wifi is a rarity. background data will likely stay enabled, but we'll see.
please excuse grammar, on the sensation right now and I just gave up the BB 9700 keyboard just two days ago, one of the only good things about that phone!
edit2: okay so I ran down the phone. it shut down just minutes before the 3 hour mark. this is very exciting because my battery barely decreases while the screen is off. on Max brightness and wifi/GPS/Bluetooth/4G on, and the screen on for all but about 10 minutes, I got about 3 hours. this is exceptional. ill do a real world test tomorrow and report back, but things are looking up. currently, brightness is set to auto, wifi is off, GPS and Bluetooth are off, processor is clocked at 1.2ghz. very excited that this one calibration actually did something!
also, I consider HSPA+ to be 4G cause its about 10 times faster than any 3G out there and it's actually been official for a while.
www.phonearena.com/news/ITU-says-LTE-WiMax-and-HSPA--are-now-officially-4G_id15435
Edit3: It helped, but I'll be buying a Chichitech battery, ordering it tomorrow. 1900mAh better make a difference.
So its been a few days, but here's what I did to get acceptable battery - all at once:
Flash a Cyanogenmod rom, HyperSensation, the other one, Selfkang or whatever is a MAJOR battery destroyer for me. Any kernel, any clock speed, I'd lose 5 to 10% an hour just idling. I lost 15% alone playing 4 mp3s through my AUX cable. Not saying it's like this for everyone, but it was for me.
Flashed Faux's kernel, Joe's RCU from his thread.
Underclocked to 1.08Ghz while the screen is on, 540Mhz while the screen is off.
Undervolted the processor using FauxClock to -37.5mV, might go even lower if it's stable.
Ordered a 1900mAh ChiChiTech battery from Amazon, http://www.amazon.com/CHICHITEC-T-mobile-Sensation-Cellphone-Battery/dp/B0057US9YW - whether or not it's 1900mAh doesn't really apply, but what does is that I instantly got 20% more and I'm not even done conditioning. It's only 23 bucks, two for thirty. I was so anxious to try to get a battery that I next-dayed it for 17 bucks.
I'm a moderate to heavy user, I used some wifi hotspot today, automatic brightness for the display, background data and auto-sync, listening to standup comedy mp3s for 1.5 to 5 hours a day, web for probably 30 minutes to an hour a day, and today specifically, 45 minutes of Legends of Yore (fun rogue-like!) and 15 minutes of Age of Zombies.
Only two thirds of my battery used and I've been off the charger for 13 hours. My old battery would have given out about 6 hours ago, and that's if I cut my activity in half.
Anyhow, problem's solved, but I figured it'd be a good read for anyone in a similar boat.

How is the battery life?

i want to know if Z3 has good battery life..

Its insane lol Iam coming from a htc one and this easily lasts double what i got from the htc! Now i have adjusted my settings to help with battery life, I always do when i get a new phone. I turn alot of stuff off that aint being used and only turn them on if need be! None the less this is by far the best battery life i have ever experienced from a phone! It also drains consistently where as with the htc it used to drop from 100 - around 96 within a few minutes and then when it got to 30 it seemed to suddenly start draining faster! I took this off charge at 100 and left in standby for over 4 or 5 hours and it was still at 100%
I had great battery life when I first got mine. Since I updated the software, it's tanked.
I have repaired and factory reset it and i've optimised everything with battery savings, but went from 8 hours SOT and two day battery to around 6 screen on and at about 20% when I go to bed after one day.
HTC One M8 gave me around 6 hours screen on time, and lasted a day and a half.
Hoping this sorts itself out, as the screen temperature issue, speaker notification volume, and now battery life, is not enough to of justified my jumping ship :/ (Even though I really wanted it because it's waterproof) lol.
All that said, the battery life even now is excellent still.
It's not that good as some people say but still ok. I would say that maybe 20-30% better than htc one m8. This means that you can easily go through the work day but if you would be go out after the work day (partying) you would be a bit worried if the battery lasts.

I have hight demand about battery life but I'm also happy with Z3 dual. I wish it can be charge ( much ) faster by microUSB port, best could be about 2 hours.
I am actually disappointed by the battery. It's down to 80% after just an hour and a half with medium usage. How is it going to last 2 days like that? Don't know if my phone is a faulty device or I am doing something wrong. It's charging now, I will put up some screenshots if it's still bad. Everything else is perfect so the battery being bad (which should be the best thing with this phone) is making me sad :/

First charge and use,
Been unplugged for about 9.5 hours. A lot of whatsapp usage today. Battery life currently sitting at 65%. About half LTE and half WiFi.
This is a lot better than my Samsung S4, but not sure how it compares to other users.
I'm actually curious if anyone has compared the z2 and z3 battery performance in real world usage with the same usage pattern? Which has the longer sceen on time and standby time etc.

Nothing special
Could anyone tell me if this looks right? Is it good or bad? I didn't charge it overnight so ~10 hours are included in which I didn't use the phone.
Here's my battery usage the first day after I got it (charged up to full overnight before starting to use):
http://imgur.com/a/RyftP?gallery
Summary: 13.5 hours on battery, leaving me with 6%, with 8h43m+ screen on time and 3+ hours of music. Coming from a Nexus 4, I'm very very happy.
coming from LG G i'm very happy.
I'm struggling to get 4 hours of screen time before it dies after less than a day. No apps at all hogging the battery or anything like that.
Standby battery seems to be awful, even with stamina mode on blocking everything other than facebook messenger and gmail. It's losing 1% an hour, which doesn't sound bad, but my Galaxy Note 3 was draining 1% every three hours on both stock rom and Cyanogen 11. Moto G 2014 similarly does around 1% every 2-3 hours.
Standby for the most part should be represented by an almost perfectly straight line in battery stats, but on the Z3 its a constant curve downwards, much like the standby battery bug in the OnePlus One.
I'm in a full 4 bar LTE area as well, so it's not poor signal doing the damage.
The strangest of all, is the first day I had the phone it managed to get me through 2 full days easily. That included 8 hours of music streaming over bluetooth each day, and 4 hours screen time. Yesterday I was just over 3 hours screen time after 17 hours, and it was on 6% battery, including the 8 hours or so music streaming. That is exceptionally poor compared to both the Note 3 and Moto G.
But who knows, maybe disabling all the bloatware is causing issues. Either way I'll have a replacement device from amazon tomorrow which hopefully wont have the screen issues or bluetooth/wifi dropouts (thoguh I suspect that is software related).

go into your battery settings and make a screen shot
I had z2 so will offer comparison on battery. It does last longer than z2 by approx 20-30%, on my usual usage with z2 I was at approx 15% remaining by end of the day, with the z3 I'm at about 35%ish.
Heavy use and relatively bright screen.

SoT IS A LIE?

Hello XDAres
Read this as a foreword - it's not a must
I've been using my OnePlus One for about a year, and at first the battery was great, but after upgrading to CM12S it seemd like it got much worse. this case wasn't only for me ofcourse.. many other users of CM12s and basically any Lollipop device had complained about a decreased battery life. their evidence to that was their SoT- which used to be (and I'm talking about the majority) around 4-5 hrs back at KitKat days, and had dropped down to 3-4 once they had gotten the 5.0-5.1.1 Updates.
that was caused by a number of things- among of them was the Google Services Wake bug etc.
Now to the point-
My OPO used to get 4.5+ SoT ( Screen on Time) back @ Kitkat days. since the upgrade to LP it went down to 3-4 max.
And then I've tried something-
I simply changed the settings of display, to turn off the display after 30 minutes of screen idle (it was 15 seconds before).
And the results?

The suggested conclusion is- SoT is a lie.
If prior to the changes I've made on the display settings, I'd get ~15% @ the end of the day ( say 11PM/23:00 ) and a 3.5hrs SoT, I can now get to ~5% at the end of the day ( again 11PM/23:00 ) by simply raising those values. does it mean that I've used the phone more? well, no, it simply tells us that SoT isn't that trustworthy as we thought.
Opinions?
So, I have my display off time set to 1 minute and get the same SoT at the end of the day (6+ hours).
Stock CM12.1, no tweaks, no greenify.
Nothing changed since kitkat
It's not a lie, but it is a terrible measure of battery life. Sure the screen consumes a lot of power, but it's not the only thing eating energy, using the phone while the screen is on is a huge burden and especially when I comes to using the GPS there can be a huge disparity between a person that leaves the phone on a counter and a person walking around triggering the sudden motion sensor.

The SOT reported is not a lie, it's completely accurate. You're not thinking about this properly. If you previously had it set to turn off after 15 seconds, then we can be confident that when the screen was on you were actually using the phone and depleting the battery. Since changing it to turn off after 30 minutes we can be confident that after using your phone you'd put it down and the screen would remain on but the battery wouldn't be depleting like it normally would if you were actually using it. Of course you got more SOT, you'll always get more SOT if the phone is sitting on a table with the screen on but not actually being used.
This is the worst premise to start a thread with and to top it off the test you did is so bad I'm at a loss for words. You clearly disproved your point from the beginning. Your normal usage that you had on KitKat gave you more SOT than on Lollipop. Some people have different results though. Changing the display time out doesn't mean anything. You could have as well kept charging the phone not letting it reach 90% and shown a 12hr SOT and the second screenshot you could have reused an old one. No one would know

Have you both seen my suggestested connclusion?
I said that SoT isn't always turstworthy, that is my point, and I've showed that I can use the phone ( a normal daily usage ) for one day and get 3.5 SoT, and the next day I'd get nearly 6hrs SoT. and again, those are the results of about the same usage, the only difference was the screen turn off time.
Thus, we can conclude that people who post pictures of a ~5hrs SoT @ a LP ROM, or in the other and, people who post pictures of ~3.5hrs SoT @ a LP ROM, haven't necessarily have a 'worse/better' battery.
It depends on too many f actors, so we cannot take SoT as a confirmation of a good/bad battery life.

SOT is trustworthy just your test is dumb. It's a half baked theory and you're trying to convince yourself you got a good idea. Most grown people don't post fake SOT hence why it's always been a great indicator of battery life especially if usage patterns are similar (that's the key here). Other factors come into play like rogue apps but not the factors you're trying to manufacture with your lame test

Yes I read it, but your logic that you use to make your argument is completely illogical. The conclusion is right; there are too many unique factors for each user to take into consideration, so two users with the exact same ROM can have wildly differing battery consumption experiences. I say this to anyone asking about battery life on a ROM or build: the only way to find out is via your own testing.

I see that it is hard for you to say what you have to say without being so rude, for an unknown reason.
I'll still answer you-
Person A- Gets 5.5hrs SoT and he is happy.
Person B- Gets 3.5hrs SoT and he isn't happy.
Both use the same ROM, and both get to 11PM with 15% Battery.
Person A- read emails for a few hours.
Person B- only used facebook a little, navigated for a few minutes, used whatsapp and played Temple Run 2 for about 30 minuets.
both batteries lasted for the entire day.
Person A's phone mainly drained the battery for using the screen- thus the higher SoT.
Person B's phone mainly drained the battery for Data Usage,GPS,GPU etc- thus the lower SoT.
Person A- thinks his battery life is awesome.
Person B- thinks his battery life sucks.
both of them get to that conclusion by checking their SoT.

You're still not getting what I mean and used a very obvious example. I am specifically focusing on YOUR experience, not usage patterns between two different people. You had better battery life on KitKat and I assume your usage patterns and apps have remained generally the same. That's why it's logical to assume Lollipop has worse battery life due to different SOT.
The difference between two people can have too many factors to even bother considering. But judging from your own experiences on different ROMs or Android versions you'll get a clearer idea that your usage will give you. But this assume that the usage is NORMAL not increasing time-out to 30 mins to manufacture results to prove a point

You had to make a thread for this? Everyone knows this stuff.
Which is why when posting SOT stats its common to post your App usage stats along with some description (like WiFi/data usage, Location active or not, auto sync on or not)
I too find your thread absurd just cuz your little experiment has such obvious results it's ridiculous you had to point that out.
I prefer better idle drain rather than high SOT
SOT is a lie for "end users"
I have went up to 8.5 hours of SOT with 40+ mins on call with CM11S-05Q, and on average was getting 6.5-7 hours of SOT with 1.5+ hours call time on 26-32 hours frame.
Moving to COS12 was a bummer, but with COS12.1, just a few days back with some more modification with Amplify was able to get a staggering 6.5+ hours SOT which I had been getting with Custom ROMs like AICP easy ...
So it jots down to the user, how is the user is using the phone, what has he done over the stock behavior of the phone to boost the battery performance, Amplify, Greenify, OS tweaks, myandroidtoolspro etc comes handy.
Again, if you use the phone with stock behavior, you wouldn't be here at XDA.
Oneplus One has best battery performance I have seen in years, since the time of Motorola Atrix 2 and recently Droid Turbo. Motorola had been ruling in battery domain since beginning of android smartphones, cause they were the dudes who made cellphones to begin with, and the only device in which I saw a similar performance is OPO. So SOT isn't a lie, absolutely not.
Lidor, the issue you have is Mobile Radio Active Bug, Google it.
SoT is not intended as a general and absolute battery meter.
It does what is says, it tells you how long the screen has been on after unplugging it from a power source.
Note: Of course when the screen is on consumes part of battery life.
So, SoT is not a lie, is a honest indicator of how long the screen was on.
Why the screen was on? That's the real question, and SoT is not competent to answer.
SoT alone is not enough to compare the battery life between os versions.
What if someone asks: How long will the engine of a car stay on with 10L of fuel?
This is my (educated) Opinion regarding SoT.
sot emm.

Battery life

Hi. I've pre ordered the moto one vision yesterday, basicly out of curiosity about a moto running on Samsung Exynos 9609 soc.
I have a motorola one already which is built on Qualcomm msm8953 and battery is great on that device.
How's the battery holding up on Moto One Vision, concidering it only has a 3500 mAh battery and a 6"+ screen, 48MP cam etc?
I kind of feel like the battery is a bit undersized for this device, but I may be wrong.
Please comment about your battery experience below, or fill in with questions about battery.
Fully charged yesterday, today still i have 81%
After the first charging: 5,5h SOT and still about 22% was avalible. Not bad.
i bought it last Friday, charged twice since then, i have an impression of battery drain, but i think it's because i just use it more often, just like every phone while it's new
Thanks everyone for your replies. Maybe it's not as bad as I thought after all.
Please continue with replies and / or questions about battery.
I read somewhere that Motorola One has great battery back-up!
today, here confirmed !
For me, 1,5 days
As it's said... a picture worth a thousand words...
Here's what AccuBattery says about my One Vision.
I use it mainly to Instagram and some youtube (light usage on that one). Whatsapp and Google Maps.
(#1 - @81% it would last: 19h and half combined use, 7h with screen on, 24h on standby)

(#2 - Usage by app)
(#3 - Screen on - 11,2% battery usage/hour - Standby - 3,3%/hour - Combined - 4,2%/hour)
(#4 - Battery Health - 102% - Estimated capacity - 3567 mAh)
Battery Life Opinion
I just bought Motorola One Vision, but I´m concerned about battery life (while waiting for the cell phone to be delivered for me). I saw some reviews tellign that battery life is poor , and some telling that battery life is OK (1 day - 20 hours - normal use). Can anyone tell me if for a normal user like me that don´t play games in the cell phone, just use social networks, and a little of youtube the battery lasts at least from 6 AM to 11 PM? (my normal daily use)? I´m in doubt since there are people telling the battery life is good (one day and a half) and some people are telling that battery lasts only 6 to 10 hours. Which one is true? If someone have a trusted review, please share.
Thanks!
I've had the One Vision for 3 weeks now and have no problems with battery life.
I get around 6-7 hours of SOT.
I 'm what you would call a normal user like yourself.
Battery seems drain fast took of charger 100% 6:45am took couple photos in garden checked FB/ Twitter emails 7:10am 93% , this could boil down to fact it's had one full charge over night since getting and may settle etc in few days this is with latest update with June security , hope future updates can improve battery and camera

Just got a Vision One, after sporting a G5s + for the past 3years.
Wheras i could still get 2days of use out of my G5s+ , i have the impression the Vision just drains really fast. Maybe i'm just using it more because it's new ? I don't really have that impression though.

Just like you - sort've...
I'm considering getting either the 'Moto G7 plus' or 'Moto One vision' .
At first I thought I was going down the 'Vision' route due to 'better specs' - until I started reading about 'poor battery drain' despite having a 3500mAh battery
My current phone 'only' has a 3000Mah with 5.2" screen that with my [very] light usage it'll last the day with still ~35-50% battery left over (depending if I get bored @ work & play a game or 2)
I mainly only have phone for emergency, some occasional game playing (subway surfer etc - no 3d intensive gaming) & music listening (not into watching videos on a phone or social media usually) - so 'screen on' time is usually pretty low - & would also like to hear 'real life' reviews of how long the battery does last

I've it for one month and for me the battery usage is ok. I go to work at 7 am, and I put it on charge at 10 pm with 40~30% of battery which for my use is ok. I noticed that if I play a game for 40 min or play a video for around 30~40 minutes the battery is at 10% at 10 pm. So my verdict is that for a user that don't play games/watch videos a lot, the battery can stand a day and ends up with 40%, but if you like to play then maybe you should consider another option.. My guess is that the battery drain is due to the screen... The good points are the screen is very good and Android is very fast and good (I had a Samsung A50 before).

Yeah sort of guessed the screen may play a big part in battery drain... Larger Screen needs more power to display,
Those that check their Twitbook accounts ever few minutes may be the ones that complain about fast battery drain the most, although I have seen some personnal reviews about battery loss overnight when left alone
Some have said that it's 99% when they go to bed but when they wake up it's down to ~80% (I assume it's like 10pm to 7am), which surely can't be because of the screen .. I assume this is because of overnight syncing issues from social apps running in background etc.
Since (I'm led to believe) the vision is 'pure android' - no bloat (apart from a couple of additional moto apps - I think) I guess as long as I disable all auto sync apps & not have too many app installed running in background (I mainly only have Sophos Security [Antivirus etc] & Tasker [For 'While in zone change volumes etc]) I should get less drain overnight.... In theory
It's a mostly pure android experience. I'm not a heavy social media user. Here are some screen shots. I unhook at 545am and I'm on 20% at 10pmView attachment 4803617

For me it's ok drive regardless of the battery % at night I always charge it overnight, so it's fine for my use.
Hi, my moto on vision after two weeks...
https://imgur.com/gallery/vPlsqyI
50hs total and 4hs 37min sot
My phone has SOT (at 63% birghtness) around 5-6 hours and with normal usage it lasts about two days.
But I'd recommend having a charger nearby. After 40-ish hours I still had 25-30% battery.

Yeah Im having a same experience as you ,5 to 6 hours of SOT is typically what I get when using wifi, lop off an hour when using LTE though.
