I posted this over in the Edge forum yesterday but thought it might get more views here:
How can one enable USB audio on the Galaxy S6? I have the Edge model from AT&T, though I'm sure that makes no difference.
I have a USB DAC I would like to use the phone with. I have a USB OTG cable, and should be able to connect my phone to the DAC to send digital audio from the phone to the USB. This has worked fine on previous phones, and has been supported as a native feature of Android since 4.0.
On my Galaxy S6 Edge, it just doesn't work. It must be missing something simple. In developer options, 'Prevent USB audio routing' is set to 'Off.'
Has anyone had success doing this?
i send my s6 back to samsung for fixing a loosse home button. But i have a OTG cable and attached my USB headset on it without tweaking anything. It was just plugging it in and audio worked fine.

i have a Pioneer AVH-X8700BT and it is both IOS Auto & Android Auto compatible.
Problem is it works fine with an iphone 6s but when i tried it with my new samsung galaxy s7 nothing works!
i tried using both Android Auto and the Mirrolink mode but both nothing.
Tried restarting both car device and phone but nothing.
Also tried with a samsung galaxy s6 and also nothing.
Any ideas?
Same issue here.
My S7 won't connect via Android Auto either. (VW Golf)
Do you have a setting inside the radio for pairing? At least with my radio you have to activate pairing to see the radio
Had the same problem with my S7 Edge from Verizon with my Pioneer 8100NEX. Finally figured out that I have to change the USB options to get it work. After you connect the USB cable, pull down the notification drawer and look for "Connected for charging" notification". Tap that and change "Use USB for" to "Transferring media files". Android Auto worked after that for me.
I didn't have to do this with my S4. Unfortunately for the S7 I have to do this every time I connect my phone. I found this thread because I'm looking for a way to make it the default but haven't had any luck yet.
I had the same problem. Thanks for posting this. Now I also am looking to set the default functionality. Crazy to have to manually switch this every time.
Thanks,

If this works for you to connect - the default functionality can be found under developer options. You can manually force charging, MTP etc there. USB debugging - off / USB configuration - MTP
This is a known official marshmallow issue not isolated to GS7 , LGG5 has same issue listed in google support page. some devices (like my GS7) will not connect after switching USB connection options. I have tried every mode and mine will not work - need a more advanced workaround. I also can't root phone because of corporate network restrictions.
Anyone have an update on this? I have the same issue using Galaxy S6 Edge Plus. I've enabled the developer options and enabled USB Debugging and MTP for the USB connection type with no success. I also can't change options with the connection type in the notification panel.

My S7 Edge Duos seemed to require the disabling of Car Mode as it was interfering with AA's connection. It's a default Samsung piece of unneeded. You can download "Package Disabler Pro for Samsung" from the Playstore. It will allow you to disable apks and stubs without root. I disabled Car Mode and now AA works with the Pioneer 8100 I have. the S7 worked fine with the wife's '16 Accord and AA which was my sticking point. I guess the Pioneers support Car Mode and Mirrorlink so it confuses the hell out of the deck. It's worth the 0.99 cents to see if this works for you. You can also disable all the other bloatware you don't want with it. So it's kind of a win/win for a buck.
Hi I have a Pioneer AVH X8890bt and I want to connect my s6 edge to appradio, however, everytime i plug my phone to the usb it gets connected to android auto, Could anyone guide me as to how to establish a connection. Also, there is a HDMI port at the back of my system and I have learnt that to connect a samsung device you need miracast dongle, so if I buy a dongle will i be able to use the touch function of my car audio or everytime I will have to be dependent on my phone. Please advice.
Hi all,
Since i updated my Note 10.1 tablet ( ed.2014 ) to android L, my external dac stopped working.
The usb dac is the Dragonfly 1.2 (Audioquest) and worked fine before, plug & play.
I tested the dac, the usb-otg cable and also the usb connection of the tablet => they are OK.
Hardware hasn't changed, so to me, it looks like a software problem.
Is the usb power output (more) limited ?
I used the "usb host diagnostics" app that tells me the dac is still recognised.
Is there a way to make the dac function again, or do i have to go back to the earlier version of android ?
thanks !
Jo
Hi,
It seems that you already found the best place on XDA to post your question.
Please continue your journey there
Good luck!
I received a used stock S6 yesterday, and I cannot get it to connect to my computer for file transfer. I also have an Galaxy S4 that connects just fine. The latest Samsung usb driver is installed, as is Smart Switch (which I just installed).
I've tried several different, high quality USB cables. The really strange thing is when I connect the USB cable to the phone there is no indication of connection in the top bar, but when I pull the top bar down there is an option that reads "Connected for charging. Touch for other USB options." When I tap on that it brings up the standard USB options, but I can't change the setting. The setting will always stay at "Charging. Charge your phone via USB" no matter what setting I try to tap on.
Any thoughts?
Never mind. WOW. I tried 3 different USB cables, all of which worked with my GS4, and none of them worked with the GS6. Then I tried a Monoprice quality cable and it connected just fine. Geez, why do they make USB cables like that?
I have had that on my S7. Not sure why some cables won't work while others do on it and vice versa for other phones.
I have no issue getting my Chord Mojo working with the UAPP app on my S8+ but when I try to use band camp, youtube or any other apps it will not route audio to the DAC properly. Note that UAPP uses a proprietary driver for routing data to the extetnal DAC. A notification comes up when connection Mojo to S8+ via micro usb-usb c otg cable(see screenshot below)
I have tried every option in the normal settinsg and developer mode but no matter what it just reverts back to "charge connected device". I have played around with all the USB settings in Developed mode;
Prevent automatic usb routing
Setting the usb device to audio source,
/MTP
Etc
Nothing works.
I even uninstalled UAPP, attached Mojo and opened band camp, still nothing. Worse yet, often it will freeze with Mojo connected and then restart itself or get stuck on the carrier boot screen during restart.
Seems that Android system is not allowing the device to connect properly although I can't be sure. I just want to be able to send all my audio to my exceptional Chord Mojo. Bummer because everything worked fine on S7 Edge running Android 7.0 when I selected MTP under developer options. Unless there's a fix I'll only be able to use Mojo with UAPP.
Im having very similar problem on S8, got an OPPO HA2 DAC, have bought a micro USB to USB C cable, and the phone is charging the DAC? It doesnt let me change the output as per your screen shot above.
Can anyone help?
I've ordered the meenova c to b otg cable, will report back.
i use andoird4viper with my DFR and it works. just had to lock the effect to headset and it should work system wide, as least for my case.
The meenova off cable made no difference with regard to getting Mojo to work with apps other than UAPP.

I'm not rooted and don't want to root.
Still no fix in sight but it is definitely a software issue and most likely with Android system processes.
I want use the LG V30 as a streaming audio device and connect it to my HiFi setup via external DAC - audiolabs mini M-DAC.
This DAC has an PC/Android OTG micro USB port for connectivity and also a built in battery for optional portable use. I leave the DAC plugged into power and don’t use it as a portable device.
When I connect the V30 to the audiolabs mini M-DAC using a standard USB-C to micro USB cable the phone goes into USB “Power Supply” connection mode. Although the audio works fine with the DAC using the USB Audio Player Pro app it rapidly depletes the phone battery.
I have tried to manually switch the USB connection mode to “Charging” and others but it just reverts back to “Power Supply” connection mode.
Can anyone help figure this out ?
I don’t think this issue is limited to V30 phone and no one in the V30 thread has been able help with it. For this reason I’m trying the general QA.
I’m guessing the issue is to do 2 way charging offered by USB-C port. Ideally I would like the phone to be able connect to the DAC and draw power from it or at least remain passive.
My phone is Rooted if that helps.
