[Completed] Calls On CM based Roms Are Always Unknown (Mongolia) - XDA Assist

I have posted this in the Samsung galaxy S5 forum, but I am not seeming to have any luck. I have been searching for the answer for days.
I really like all CM based roms and I do not want to switch to another ROM. However, only on the CM mods, all of my incoming and outgoing calls show up as unknown in the caller ID. There is also an exclamation mark in the symbol that shows my service in the top right.
I live in Mongolia and all the numbers are 8 digits long. If I add the country code (+976) when I make an outgoing call, I can see the number. However, when people call me, it still shows as unknown. When using the stock rom or the MOAR rom, it works fine.
I use a Sprint Samsung Galaxy S5 on lollipop.
I have searched everywhere, but I am not sure what to do. This is really a deal breaker, so please help me out.
Thank you

Hello,
The exclamation mark in your signal icon indicates that you are getting cellular service but you are not getting mobile data. This is because you either have an issue with your SIM card or because you need to edit your APNs to your cell carriers' APN values.

Thank you. However, I DO get mobile data when I turn on the data. I changed the APN. When it is off, I don't get that symbol.
I will post in the forum that you provided.

It shows the symbol when turn mobile data on but it gets data and can browse the web? If so that's strange.

The caller ID may need you to gave data turned on when a call comes in, it may get its' information from the mobile network instead of from cellular signal, it could depend on what phone app and calling setup was used in making the ROM.

[Q] How to Permanently Turn Mobile Data off ?

I know this probably seems a little crazy or weird. But is there any way that I could more permanently turn my mobile data connection off and still use wifi networks? If there is a way to do so I would greatly appreciate any insight or help. Thanks

Crazy indeed lol, but you should have a quick tile that says "mobile data" which you can turn off or another that says airplane mode which you can turn on. After you can turn on WiFi and use it. You might need to do this every time you reboot but it's the easiest way.

Thanks for the reply Stig. I am aware of the quick tile, I was thinking of something that is a little more permanent that would require some effort to turn mobile data back on. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Yeah I understand, figured I'd share the easiest method just in case Are you S-OFF? A more permanent method might require you be S-OFF, I'm not 100% sure but just fyi...
I am indeed S-off. But I am not a developer. Haha. Perhaps there is a way, but if there isn't that is ok too.
Just out of curiosity what is going on that you want it to be so permanent?

What about removing the sim card? I remember seeing either a thread or an xposed module that removes the no sim card notification.
Edit: there is indeed an xposed module for this, only thing though is I don't know if it will work with the M8 and the support page is some Asian language.

I want to be able to make/receive calls and use WiFi. And the WiFi has filters in place to keep things safe but I don't want to have the ability to bypass the filters simply by using mobile data. I wouldn't be able to make/ receive calls without a sim card in, right Stig?

Correct you cannot have any mobile communication without a Sim card.

If your on wifi you can make and receive calls over wifi with google voice. Just set up a free google voice number and you can call and text over wifi. Also if you have or get a phone number through magicjack you can use their app and make and receive calls over wifi. Both of these work over wifi and do not require a sim card or mobile data of any kind, you just can only call or text if you have wifi available though.

What does someone do if you want to sell or give that tablet
Before you data plan stop for that device. Even if you do a
Factory reset anyone can turn the mobile data ON!

Take the sim card out of it. Without a sim, it doesn't matter if mobile data is on or not. No sim means no service. You can use the sim in your new device if you're replacing the old one. Otherwise, throw it away.

[Completed] Ulefone Be Touch 2, unable to call or text

My SIM card does not work properly in my new phone. Does anyone know which settings I must adjust to call or text with my new phone? Sometimes I am able to call with it, but the coverage is very poor and the message "network unavailable" appears when i move around in my house. Wifi is working correctly. I think it is something in the mobile network settings/access points, but have no clue what to change. Ulefone is not a common brand in the Netherlands, so phone shops were unable to help me. Thanks in advance!

Hi
Did you upgrade the bootloader and modem as they recommend?
Also check your APN and see if they are correct , check with your carrier they will provide the information , in most cases if you delete them and re start the phone the carrier will send the information automatically

Hi
not sure what you mean , normally your carrier will send that information automatically , if you place a new sim the sim´s carrier will send that information.
Go settings / mobile networks / Access Points Names there you you can see what you have ask your carrier for the correct information and review them or just reset them and reboot , here is resend automatically and configure by itself
What network mode you have selected?

Ok thankz
With stock firmware, I can receive SMS sent via email. I have tried a few S7 flat custom ROMS and all prevent me from receiving SMS sent by email.
This seems to be the case also when I was still using S6. So what is it with custom ROMS that prevents receiving SMS via email?
Thanks

I never did. I just eventually found a custom ROM that did not have that issue. Forgot which one.
I am now on S8 snap dragon. If you still using S7 exynos, you might want to try Black Diamond by @Kill-Switch.

id be willing to wager that it was the APN. Many custom ROMs build in the APNs to make their ROM foolproof. Dollars to doughnuts its the APN
Is there a way to override the rom's apn? Tello (Sprint MVNO) automatically configures the network settings and doesn't allow to adjust and when I used a RedPocket GSMA (ATT MVNO) sim card, I was able to insert their apn info but still was not able to receive sms text messages.
As a workaround, I am using my Google Voice number forwarded to the phone and all texts are received as long as I have wifi or data connection. Not perfect but it's better than nothing.
BTW, I am working on an LG X Charge SP320 but posted here because of a google search and relevance to the issue in general.
Thanks for the insights and any suggestions.

VoLTE option disappearee?

Hey,
for about a month I've been having problems with calls going directly to the voicemail and not reaching me. I use 4g cause 3g has very bad connection where I live.
Now I am almost 100% sure there was a VoLTE option that I could check/uncheck in the mobile network options, but it seems it has disappeared.
Is there a way to disable VoLTE? Cause I read my problem comes from having it enabled, but now that the option is gone, I can't disable.
Phone is European version, I didn't flash anything or so, 100% stock

Anyone, please?

Unfortunately yes, check the attached screenshot please. I checked every option there. I must get rid off this VOLTE somehow, it's making big problems for me.

what's your access point name? have you chosen it to correct carrier? have you recently change carriers, if so that may the the problem not supporting the correct LTE bands for that carrier.

The APN I can only choose one, which is the correct one.
The carrier, there might be something about this. Recently my service provider merged with another, but I can only use one it seems. See the picture attached. Also thanks again .
Edit: When I searched for a carrier manually the first time, there was no 4G E-Plus. There was only 3g. Does this tell us something?
I use FRD-AL10,..Does it support VolTE?

Just bought a Samsung Galaxy S8+ from someone and it's not registering to any network

I just got the phone, put my sim in it but nothing happened. I tried everything network settings reset, airplane mode on/off, turned off the radio from phone information, factory reset, I even reflashed the firmware with Odin. I will attach some photos and wait for suggestions.

Check to see if it's black listed. This seems to be a common occurrence. If it is I would take the receipt his name and number to your local police as it was not his to sell

Maybe it's not sim unlocked but normally it will say sim not reconized. I would find out the original carrier and check with them. Maybe it hasn't been updated on the sites yet

I am sure it's unlocked. Tried with 3 different carriers and it asks for the sim PIN and it unlocks. But the circle with the line is still there. And it's not connected to any network. I am curious why on phone information it says connected to LTE and signal -120dBm...

It's picking up lte but not registering on a network. There is a dialer code somewhere for a hidden menu. And you can check imei cert validity. Unless it's a CSC issue... Where your towers info isn't being programmed.
I didn't notice but is it showing your phone number in info. All that good stuff no zeroed out no null.
It will show no service even if all the towers are talking to the phone but rejecting it.
---------- Post added at 06:10 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:05 PM ----------
I did a load of tests a while back and messed up my imei cert file. So I couldn't register on any networks. Bassicly blacklisted but on my end. And I was seeing the same. No signal icons. No presence of and signal in db meter there. But apps like lte discovery showed I was seeing the towers.
All the info in your pics look perfect so I seem to think it's a issue registering and completing a proper handshake with their networks.
-120dBm is a very poor connection, no?
go to a location where you get 80 or lower. then test your connections. my phone won't connect in the 90's

When a device will not register on a network it show low signal like that. It has nothing to do with actual signal strength.
I can always be wrong. My understanding from the phone techs that have been to our house to try and fix our lack of connection issues for ATT service, have specifically said that our connection, usually 90+ up to 109db, is not a strong enough signal for our phones to successfully connect to data. (also to call with the phone).
Once they got the signal lower than 90 db, we could get data, and call normally. The lower the db, the better and faster the data, and more secure/stable the cell calls.
