Raphael is brutally closing programs!
I really dunno why is this happening... I have 50% of RAM free and it lets me run just 3-4 programs together. When I run one more... it occasionally selects one thats previously ran and kills it silently... I really wouldn't like to "Clear Storage" from settings
I also had this problem when I first got my TP. It's a simple fix - you need to disable AutoKill. With a registry editor, go to HKCU\Software\HTC\TaskManager, and change the value of “EnableAutoKill” to “0".
^ yes this a good fix. I remember I couldnt switch between opera and replying to a text message, I felt like I was back to a feature phone, with one thing at a time capability.
There is also a registry tweak that instead of killing apps you can change the threshold at which the system starts auto-killing, same registry path.
You guys are amazing! THANK YOU! BUT... I still have the problem
Any other ideas?
You can refer to this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=426585
In the section of "Tips", there is a tweak which solved the problem perfectly
Thank you. Tried that caches tweak, it made whole system run much faster. But still - i cannot seem to get 4 proggies to run at the same time. Always the first dies... flip flop
This thread is turning into a copy of few others around here. Only this is new and alive.
Please help me out.
I've tried:
1) The HTC Task Manager registry tweaks
2) The cache sizes maximizing
and...
3)?
Maybe the ugly 32MB/32Process limit (http://msmobiles.com/F/viewtopic.php?p=36334&highlight=&sid=c6b5982e059ec35ce19fd3cd952bd683) is still present in WinMo6.1?
Hello!
OMFG! After disabling autokill my TP started to act almost like desktop in case of multitasking
I was able to run around 12 programs at a time, but i've also made changes to memorytreshold, the value i set was 173015040 (1.5 times the default value).
The funny thing was that TP was still responsive to commands and even opera ran smoothly when surfing throu light web pages.
First app closed after memory usage peeked around 65%, but the rest was still responsive.
Hope this helps

Thats my point. Same limit like 65% because I have customized my device with launchers, hardkey remapper, Wktask etc. Now I can have (only) five apps running at a time... Is there a sort of free RAM threshold inside the WM6 or HTC-s stock (1.9) ROM. Maybe it is still the 32 process limit from the old times?
Hello!
It looks like there is some kind of limit to number of proceses or memory used by them but if you customized your pda maybe you should disable some of the oryginal programs that are runing in the background. I saw some registry entries in taks manager that hid some of the runing aps maybe not all of them are nesesery for you and can be disabled to lower proces count.

Yeah.. but I would like to USE the RAM the device has.... I'd like to run manymany programs so the RAM load would be for example 95%. Why is not that possible?
Coreplayer used to work pretty well for me on my Vogue, but lately the video has become so choppy that it's unwatchable. It doesn't seem to matter much what video or resolution I'm watching. I have no idea what changed and I'm looking for some tips on what to look at. Currently I use RawFrameBuffer and pretty much everything else is, I think, the default.
The interesting thing (to me at least) is that the video is very smooth as long as I select Benchmark from the Tools menu. No dropped frames at all.
Anyone have a clue what I should try adjusting?
If it changed all of a sudden maybe it's a device issue. are you running any new services or apps?
I wish it were that simple. If anything I'm running fewer. I have fewer things going on now with my device than probably since I first bought it 14 months ago.
So what you're saying is (just so i can understand) that you had the Vogue and everything went well with CorePlayer. And now, after 14 months of use, with few programs running, it's slower for no apparent reason?
Did you perform a hard reset/flash a rom since you first got it?
Not exactly. I'm saying that something obviously changed, but I'm not sure what or when. I do remember that it behaved something like this when I first installed it 14 months ago, but I changed some settings and it worked better. But I've forgotten what those settings were, so I guess I'm asking for people's views on optimization.
As for hard resets, yes, I've had several, but always been able to restore from backup not more than two weeks old.
when you restored from the backup.. did you also restore the same CorePlayer installation? i'm trying to figure out if it's a HW problem or with CorePlayer
I believed I restored the coreplayer files and settings just about every time I've needed to do a restore. Coreplayer is on a storage card, and I've found that every so often WinMo corrupts the file system on the card, so I back up all of the Program Files folder there, as well as everthing in flash. Personally I think it's a software problem, or Coreplayer wouldn't be playing the moving fine in Benchmark mode.
Why wouldnt you just delete and reinstall coreplayer? Reseting all settings?

Because I'm old and my memory is gone. Altzheimer's is creeping up on me. I do not remember what settings I changed or how to get good performance all those months ago, therefore reinstalling is not likely to have any positive effect. I already know that the default settings (for which there is a button to press in any case) will give me unfortunate performance.
Coreplayer 1.2.5 help playing wmv files from BBC Iplayer
Hi
Can you help with this think it's to with file associations .... am downloading wmv files (for portable devices) direct to my memory card from the BBC Iplayer (wmv) they play fine in WMP but when I try to play the same file in Coreplayer it won't play (pink screen with a circular thing in the middle).
Is this something to with the Media Usage rights for the files or a setting I should remember to tweak during the download or in Coreplayer itself?
Why not just download the latest version 1.3 from their site? Might perform better...
Per the subject, is it possible to prevent things like weather, clock, news, and even updates from running, but keep them around to be run on-demand? Trying to free up memory
Tux,

Yes. I am using the es file explorer task killer and you can kill any process.

I was doing that for awhile, but the processes/services keep coming back. Plus some stuff, like Bluetooth Sharing, Settings, and Email keep appearing, even though I never used them.
I kind of understand from reading about Android memory management, but I'm seeing my memory (using SystemPanel) going down to almost 0, then the Gtab either dies a slow death, or boots back to the TapNTap boot screen (the orange thing).
I've been testing with Startup Auditor Free, but even with that, I can see a bunch of processes/services/apps in memory, even after I try killing them.

I guess what I was really hoping for is to find some kind of init script or config file where those services, etc. were configured for startup, so I could go delete them out of there.

Hi.
So, this is what happened.
Was watching an avi movie on Rockplayer, and I paused it and turned the screen off and forgot about it till this morning when I tried to turn it on and the battery was completely dead and it was off.
I charged it up and left it.
This afternoon when I tried out the new Micro SD card, I navigated to the folder to play a video off it with ES explorer and when I clicked on the file. the screen went greyed and nothing happened.
The file was an mp4, so it should have at least launched and asked if I wanted to play in stock or rock player or whatever, but nothing.
I tried file explorer HD, IO explorer and from the gallery and it just wouldn't play and of the mp4's from internal or external memory, just the same thing... greyed out screen and nothing.
AVI's play fine from the explorers, booting straight into rockplayer and playing, but it seems that files that would normally ask me which app to use, no longer work, including docx files.
If I go to rock player, it seems to work fine, just not from the explorers. Also the stock video app won't play them either when I navigate through it to them.
Quick office pro will open docx files from within as well.
So, to try fix this I went into the app settings and force stopped and cleared cache of everything that might be even remotely related, recking my layout in the process.
Still no joy.
So, I'm guessing it has something to do with the file associations or something.
Any ideas?
If not, how I do I safely wipe to default. It is stock US wifi with 3.2.
Or is it time for me to finally give in and root and try a kernel that actually works with the Micro SD?
If so can anyone point me in the right direction, if I do pick one, it must be really stable!
I'm not particularly attached to any of the data on the Xoom, I have backed up and can get it all again.
Thanks in advance
Cheers

Try this: when the screen goes grey (at the time when you should have a dialog box popup asking which application you want to use) just rotate the Xoom, making it redraw the dialog box. It is said that once this is done, the problem won't appear again with that app.
let us know if it works.
Thanks for the quick reply.
That is great advice
Unfortunately, I was hasty to get it working and I unlocked and rooted my Xoom.
Ya, that was dumb, I know, since I now made this whole thread pointless. Although now at least other people might find your advice and be able to try it.
Sorry about that. And yes, as expected, unlocking did fix it since it wiped the data.
Thanks
Although, now that I have joined the rooting ranks, what is the Tiamat Xoom Rom 2.1 "Hammerhead" like?
Is it stable? Does it still have all the Xoom functionality? Does it work with the SD nicely?
What motivated you to go to it?
Ya, I know they have the Dev section, but it is way too much information everywhere.
Got bored again and also installed the Tiamat Xoom Rom 2.1 "Hammerhead" ROM. It's really cool. I like that the things that were supposed to be fixed by moto-goog are now fixed. Thanks devs

Great! You know you would have rooted eventually, this problem just gave you the justification.
Keep the screen rotate fix in mind...the problem you encountered seems to be from the HC3.2 update, and it may happen again.
Hello, everyone!
Mediaserver process drains the battery hard and that's a big problem!
On any ROMs, any Android versions.
Some users never knew that trouble, but some are in that and it's annoying at all.
There's a lot of tips how to fix it, someone says done, someone's crying.
So, I start that topic to make clear the problem and generally solve it!
What I know about the trouble:
Mediaserver drains the battery when apps are using media files.
Mediaserver is necessary process for Android.
If you kill the process, it will start at the same moment.
if you delete or rename /system/bin/mediaserver and kill the process, your device will reboot and stop on the bootloader
How did I tried to solve it:
Deleted all the broken mp3 s by mp3 Cheker
Puted .nomedia file to the main folder of sd card and external card, also personality to media folders
Installed PowerAMP, Quick Pic, MX player - apps which use their own library of media files.
Deleted MediaStorage by Titanium Backup (nothing changed, only got problems with gPlay)
Nothing helps.
Doesn anyone have any idea what else can fix that?
no ideas? Only myself ibterested in it?
I thought, xda forum users are interesting in solving problems, improving mobile world, but I surprised that noone are in this topic.
