exclamation sign beside wifi icon - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
After I updated my nexus 5 (same problem in nexus 6) to Android marshmallow, there is an exclamation sign beside my wifi and celluar data icon which says the connection has no internet! But I have internet connection and its okay! I have know idea why its happening and how can I fix it.

I read an answer to this question (or similar) just a few hours ago - it had been puzzling me too. The answer was that the exclamation mark was showing that you're not connected to Google servers via your data connection (no idea why), but that answer did say that the exclamation mark disappears when you switch on wifi, which corresponds to my own experience. Is that what happens with you?

Thanks for your answer, but as I mentioned I have the problem both when I use wifi or celluar data. The sign just switches place depend on which one I'm using.

I have the same problem.
I know that when the phone has problems connecting to google servers this happens and this is very rare.
But after updating to Marshmallow when I connect to any wifi there is exclamation mark and also there says "Wifi connected, No internet"
Any idea???

Problems with Wifi

Hi
I'm having problems connecting with Wifi. Im running WM6 rom on o2 Atom Life.
When i introduced a new wifi connection to this phone (eg when i turned on the new home wifi for the first time and turned the phone wifi on) it would come up with a small notification down the bottom asking for some details like is this home / work connection and network key etc. I made the mistake of not putting in the details at that time and closing it. As a result I have never been able to connect to the network.
In the Wi-Fi manager, it will show the servers listed but theres no way of actually connecting to one of them. Clicking on the server name simply brings up the "Configure Network Adapters" screen.
The "Wi-fi status" in the Wi-Fi manager shows disconnected. Wi-fi however is turned on.
Please suggest a solution. I don't want to have to hard-reset or flash a new rom.
Thanks

[Q] Wifi disconnected due to "Sign-in to WiFi Network" problem

Hi guys,
I have a Samsung Note 2, and it keeps dropping WiFi constantly, and notifies me every time with a notification "Sign into WiFi network" (I don't have to sign into my WiFi network), after 5mins it disconnects by itself with this message"Your Device has been disconnected from this network, your session has timed out". It start to happen like this since yesterday, i didn't change or update anything on my phone. I looked at some Solution on here, but problem is i can't Modify network config( i live in student accommodation) and i don't have access to router. My other phone Sony xperia had the same problem at the beginning, but i press Sign in and google chrome start downloading a file (generate_204.bin) for me then the problem is solved. However, when i press sign in on my Note2, it redirect me to a weird page, and after 5mins it disconnected again
Please help

Data switching when out of wifi range

hello,
Got my first real problem on my nexus 5 after owning it from day one. I have my wifi on all the time, but lately and i think its after the 5.1.1 update, when i get to work and am out of my wifi range the signal has an exclamation mark next to it. I can receive text messages but data does not work, as i get no whats app and if i go to chrome it says you are offline. I then have to reboot and the display shows the H symbol next to the signal icon.
Any ideas ? Very frustrating, many thanks.

Wifi suddenly not working and does not connect to any AP

For some odd (and scary) reason, my wifi wont connect to ANY access point. Ive turned it on/off (both wifi and phone), connected to other APs, etc. but nothing.
I did not update so nothing has really changed.
What is wrong? It only says in the wifi settings "Saved" but when I hit "Connect" it doesn't do its usual "Connecting..." text.
A message shortly then appears saying "WiFi Connection Failure"
This is very urgent, please help.
Not only reply...incredible...
I have the exact same problem since a couple of days now. This is just terrible. I even updated to Sultans CM13, but the problem remains.

Marshmallow WiFi "no Internet" fix

So this is a general Marshmallow question. I just upgraded from 5.1 to 6 and I'm loving it so far, but I've found a slight quirk with the WiFi management that's pretty irksome and I'm hoping someone can provide some guidance.
My work utilizes a WiFi network with a WPA2 key, but then once you connect you have to log in with different credentials to a portal before you can actually connect with anything (similar to many public hotspots but with the WPA2 on top).
In Kit-Kat and Lollipop, the phone would recognize that an additional login was required, and notify me as such. Sometimes after logging in through Chrome it would automatically detect the change and the WiFi would show it was fully connected, and sometimes I would have to tap the notification then choose "use this network as-is" to make the "!" go away.
In Marshmallow, the phone is detecting that is connected but says "no internet" even after I log in (and the internet is working fine). It gives me a different notification from Lollipop, this time saying "Wi-Fi has no Internet Access (touch for options". Now, instead of allowing me to "use this network as is" the only option I'm presented is "This network has no Internet access. Stay connected?" When I say "yes" I can fully use the network, but the "!" never goes away and the phone never thinks it's actually connected.
It's particularly aggravating because when I get in range of the SSID, instead of automatically connecting, as it did in Lollipop, instead it says "No Internet Access Detected, won't automatically reconnect". Which means that every time I want to connect, I have to go into the Wi-Fi settings and manually tap "Connect" and then go through the whole dance above again.
Anyone know how to get it working again like it used to in Lollipop?

I'm not having this issue at all.
I'm 100% stock, and when additional login information is needed I get the automatic pop-up.
