Update: So thanks for all the help guys, i just downloaded a firmware from Flashtool's XperiFirm and flashed it to 23.4.A.1.232, I'm just going to apply root and recovery and i'm set.
Hello, I was using a stock based 5.1 ROM when i tried to change the theme and the screen just went black i was receiving messages and stuff so i knew the ROM was working but it had no interface i tried waiting to no avail so i restarted the phone and saw the screen still black. Since i had just recently installed the ROM and did a SD and internal storage wipe for a fresh start, i just said screw it i'll just use my old twrp backup and booted into recovery HOWEVER before flashing the backup when i went to do "Advanced Wipe" i must have accidentally ticked the wrong thing because being a moron i restarted the phone and i suddenly had no recovery or rom. So now when i turn on the phone the only thing it's showing the Sony logo in the middle and "XPERIA" in the bottom.
I can still access fastboot and flash mode.
I started up fastboot and tried to flash the dual recovery kernel but i kept getting the "Command not allowed" error.
I used flashtool to Relock/Unlock my phone and still got the same error.
I re-installed all the drivers still the same error.
I tried different USB ports and cables.
I know i can flash a firmware using XperiFirm from flashtool, but my internet connection is slow, has frequent disconnects that restart the download and the ISP charges like 5$ for every Gb i download, also i dont like to wait a day to download a firmware that i'll change in a few hours.
If you can help me get twrp in my phone i'll be a happy camper , if not i'll just have to flash the firmware :|
Thanks in Advance, Dan
UPDATE: i made and ftf from a ROM i had laying around and flashed it with flashtool but i've still got the same issue with no improvement. I just cant get why fastboot flash commands arent working.

I have the Nexus S from Telus.
It was rooted, unlocked, running CM7. However I've been having issues with it freezing and decided I want to go back to the stock rom.
I ended up downloading what I thought was stock ROM for my phone (Stock GRH78 Nandroid Backup in this Tutorial http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=884093) however after it flashed my phone, I ended up with a phone which was essentially stuck in Airplane mode, would not connect to Telus. I'm guessing that it has the wrong radio for my phone/carrier?
So then I ended up finding a zip file someone posted Stock-GRJ22-i9020A-unsigned which should have worked, I ended up flashing the zip file from recovery.
It said it installed fine. Rebooted, and now the phone just cycles the Samsung Loading screen endlessly.
I tried to go back to recovery, and it gives me yellow triangle with !.
Is there any way to flash the recovery image back to the phone?
I plug the phone in and the PC won't recognize a device.
I installed the Android SDK
Ran the command adb devices, no devices attached to the PC.
I tried fastboot devices - blank
I don't know how I'll be able to get files back onto the phone SD Card for flashing etc...
I had the exact problem two days ago...flashed an image that jacked my phone up. Wouldn't boot past the google logo. Sat there indefinitely.
Read this thread and see if you can get it work. In a nutshell, you need the PDA net drivers installed. Since PDA net can't install the app on your phone (because it's not booted into an OS) leave the install program in limbo and voila, fast boot will work. From there, push the recovery.img (google Clockworkmod recovery image), boot into recovery and you are off to the races.
This is, of course, assuming you already have a ROM image on your internal SD card you can flash to get back up and running. I'm not sure how to install a .zip image ROM if you can't gain access to your SD card.

Good luck, I know the feeling. It blows.
Ah, just found out how to install a file on a phone that won't boot.
You do need to flash CWM recovery first though.

Good news! I tried a factory reset/data wipe and rebooted the phone.
It doesn't hang anymore, all functions restored and the phone is working on Telus again!
I guess I had to format data, clear cache, before the flash of the rom.
So relieved.
Issue has been solved!
Hey guys,
I've been using this website as reference for years but never had an issue I hadn't already seen asked.
I've been looking for weeks for a solution to this and haven't found anything.
I tried to flash cm10.1 over my stock 4.1.2 and corrupted the system.
It was booting directly to AP Fastboot and showing an error about not calling the ROM properly.
I tried reflashing using RSD Light 5.7 but every time it tried to flash the system it said the phone returned failed.
So I upgraded RSD to v6.1 and tried again. This time the phone says it flashed properly but it freezes during the droid boot logo.
I've tried using the utility and it gives me the same results.
I can get into factory recovery and I've performed several hard resets. But the phone still freezes whenever it tries to load the system.
I'm using a Motorola Factory Cable on a high speed USB port.
Any ideas why I'm stuck in a soft brick that I can't flash out of?

Format system via any of the custom recoveries before flashing your new ROM - this will wipe out any leftover problems completely & should let you start 100% fresh with a new ROM.

I lost my root when I originally got stuck in fastboot. And I can't boot up the phone until I can get it fixed.

Can you get back into fastboot now? If so
Use fastboot to flash a custom recovery (CWM, TWRP or OUDHS)
use the recovery to factory reset, wipe cache/dalvic, AND format system (sometimes in the advanced menu)
then flash rom of your choice.
If you can't get fastboot working you'll need smarter help than I can give you... but the format system step clears out all kinds of gremlins.
I can get into fast boot but I don't have an unlocked boot loader to flash anything custom.

Had the same problem after a fastboot via the utility. Try powering your phone down completely and leaving it off for about 5-10 min. This can be tricky with the hardware buttons so if you have access to TWRP that will help as it has a power off option. You might also try flashing again via the utility. I believe that's what I had to do, but the power down method is what a friend suggested based of his experience with the same exact problem you documented.
FIXED!!!
OK first I want to thank everybody who responded. I got tied up with work and kind of forgot about this project for a few days.
Repeated uses of the Utility and RSD both left me stuck with the phone freezing every time it tried to load the system into memory.
I had checked out the toolbox before but I didn't think I could do much from a locked bootloader.
After your suggestion jmcdonald I tried it again. It says my device isn't available to be unlocked so I tried downgrading back to ICS.
The toolbox says that it failed but it must have fixed something because the phone booted back up to android 4.1.2 stock!
So far I have bricked a lot of phones and learned a lot about ADB in the process of fixing them but I've never had one I was so certain was bricked permanently. But now it seems to be working fine, I'm scared to try rebooting in now.
Definatly going to unlock the bootloader pronto.
Thanks again jmcdonald!
So i tried to install a new kernel, but things got messy, the kernel installed, but when it booted it gave me a black screen, could only hold the power button to open the turn off, restart features.I tried to flash a new firmware with odin, but it just fails to flash,if i boot into recovery twrp and try to copy somehting on my internal storage it gives me an error saying my phone is disconnected or not responding, then i formated everything and now i only have recovery to boot into with no options to install a firmware with odin since it fails.Tried with smart switch as well, nothing.I guess it has something to do with the fact that i coudn't copy anything on my internal storage.Any ideas?
Issue solved, used adb sideload to install a custom rom and that worked
Hi guys in a new guy in xda Peace be upon you all .So here is the deal i have rooted quite a few phones and unlocked and got rid of softbrick .But this one is give me a headache .The owner gave me the phone he said he bought a 10 of those for his repair shop.I fixed the Htc One it was 2 nights of work barely any sleep. But never the less this device is moto g first generation the device is locked by pattern and wont let me in .If i slide to the camera at the lock screen camera stopped working .Fine i was like oke this would be easy its corrupted os .Next i tried to unlock the bootloader it failed with error battery was very weak like 5 %than i let it charge to about 80% and i managed to unlock the bootloader .Next i tried to install custom recovery to get rid of screen lock .when i go to recovery i got the screen with green android dude on his back with no comand then i hold volume up button for 10 sec and i tap the power button and it booted to android stock recovery .No matter what i do i couldnt get to install custom recovery it says finished without errors in cmd but i couldnt it always reverts me to stock recovery .Someone told me some stock roms after restart reinstalls stock recovery. Then i said fine i will do this in fastboot on cmd :fastboot boot recovery twrp.img and its the same it says downloading fine then goes and its the same stock recovery adb sideload wont work because usb debbuging is turned off i think because when i type adb devices it displays nothing emtpy so i even tried to get rid of whole stock rom but no go i tried fastboot erase data fastboot erase system fastboot erase cache it all displays sucesfull next reboot the same stock rom like i never touched anything i even tried factory reset in stock recovery it wont work it says done. like its completed but it doesnt do anything any help is apprecieted
Disclaimer: I am by no means an expert! But I have flashed twrp to 2 Moto Gs this week.
What I needed to do after flashing the recovery, was going immediately to recovery without rebooting.
When I rebooted after flashing the recovery I also got the 'no command' guy. But going to recovery from the bootloader menu after flashing worked for me.

Thank you for replying i already tried that but it doesnt work i tried twrp cwm recovery you name it it doesnt work .Hm what i dont get i erased the whole stock os with fastboot erase data fastboot erase system and it still boots in to the os only tought that comes in to my mind is that the bootloader is corrupted messed up .Or is the eMMC it has errors .I dont know what to do i tried all or maybe the phone is stolen and it wont accept any permissions but i doubt it i get no errors in fastboot and trough flashing and factory reset all completed sucesfully .I dont know what to do .This is a tough one if i only had riff box jtag to try that Do you know some custom bootloader can you link me ?
You need to flash original stock 5.1 rom for your phone..From this link you have tutorial how to do it. You must do it because your partitions and file system is messed up..With this stock rom will be fixed bootloader and partitions..
After install stock rom you could install twrp again and any custom rom..
thank you kind sir i will try that thank you
why???
I done as it says in the tutorial cmd returns all okay when i finished the instalation the some old os locked screen same old recovery same thing nohing changed i done everything correct why mate do you know the reason i even put android 5.02 .Its like i never touched anything i done all right
Ok so i did the following in this order.
Installed twrp 3.3.1.0 via odin which worked perfectly.
Installed lineage os 17.1.
Installed no verify.
Installed gapps.
Had it all up ad running perfectly fine for a few weeks.
I decided to try a different os called pixel experience which i also got running just fine.
However i didn't like it and decided to go back to lineage os.
I used the exactly the same steps i used previously to wipe the system os inside twrp.
however when i tried to wipe the data it failed and then my phone auto rebooted and now i can't do anything.
It wont charge so needs to be plugged in to even turn on.
Once its plugged in it auto boots to a twrp splash screen and is stuck there and cant get into the twrp menu do install an os.
I can get into the download mode and odin detects the phone so i tried reinstalling twrp which says it was successful but when i reboot it gets stuck in the same splash screen.
i also tried reinstalling the original bl ap cp csc files that i had previously had installed which after many attempts finally go them to install but still loads the twrp splash screen and gets stuck there.
ive tried using adb fastboot loader using cmd but it doesn't detect the device so cant do any that way at all
i fear my phone is completely bricked and unusable please if you can offer any help would be much appreciated as im at the point where im looking to buy another phone as this is my old phone atm.
HI
Can't you come back to the last official firm for our S7 ?
It is an Oreo 8.0.0 firm
Have a look at samfirm ( or updato) and search for GF930FXXS8ETC2_xxx.zip
U flash that with Odin ( 3.13.1 I think) and yr phone is back to life !!!
Hope this helps
