[Q] Is it possible to hide the "Play" button? - MX Player

Hi guys,
is it possible to hide the "Play" button in the bottom right corner that shows when you open the player? When pressed this button plays the last video that was being played when the player was last closed. I don't remember this button in earlier versions and I can't find an option to hide it.
Thanks!

Thanks ktsamy. The option wasn't there in the version I was running, but after updating to 1.8 alpha the option is there. I have a couple of issues with the alpha though:
1. Audio and video are a bit out of sync, audio playing a bit later than video.
2. When tapping the screen, the interface is shown. This also shows the Android status bar. The problem is that the video resizes itself (becomes smaller) because of the status bar, as if the status bar was the end of the screen. Once the interface and status bar hide then the video resizes itself to fullscreen again, which is very distracting. I can workaround this by using Display->Fulscreen->On instead of Auto Switch, but it's not really a solution.
Neither of these happened in 1.7.40, do you know about these problems?
Thanks again.

It's a nightly version. There may be bugs. Till that kindly stick with stable version.
kindly give some more details (like model, android version & rom details (if custom rom)) about your device when you reporting issues.
---------- Post added at 02:30 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:10 PM ----------
Try the last build which was released before 1.8 alpha. It should work for you.
you can download it from the following links.

Thanks, that version has the option and it's still pre 1.8, will use that for the time being. Sorry for not posting details, here they are: Samsung Galaxy Note 4, running CyanogenMod 12.1 (Android 5.1.1), lastest nightly.

Can you try 1.8 alpha again & upload the logs...?
Is it happens with all decoders?
Can you collect the logs immediately after play the video & upload here?
If it's possible Kindly share the sample video that has the issue or Share the download link.
It will be helpful in fixing the issues in 1.8 alpha.

Mine hide just fine in MX Player when in full screen and only show little faded dot placeholders after touching anywhere on the screen to bring up the controls. I don't know if there is a setting for it or not, I can't seem to find one
The hide bottom bar app does this well on my tab 2.

[MOD] YouTube 4.5.17 - Improved Interface-Better Search,Thumbnail Layout - Dark UI

Great Job Google on the new YouTube app (version 5.*). Most of the annoying issues have been fixed although there are a few minor things I'll do just for myself like Roboto Light looking terrible on low res screens. Keeping Dark version of 4.5.17 for now.
Install Instructions
Device must be rooted.
Download YouTube-4.5.17-Hoky-SystemApp-Dark.apk attached below
Completely remove YouTube from your device (uninstall, uninstall updates, remove youtube apk from /system/app using a file manager)
Reboot
Move the downloaded apk to /system/app using a file manager
Reboot
If you don't completely understand steps 3 and 5 please ask so you don't make a noob move and mess up your device
Want to download videos?
Install this app: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2137743, browse to a video in YouTube app, press share, and select youtube downloader.

What devices are those and what android version. Is it working on the other device? Sweet font btw.
Hi,
this looks very good, but I have a feature request: could you disable rotation of the app when rotation is locked system-wide? In standard youtube, even if I lock the rotation to portrait and then turn my tablet to the side, the youtube app still rotates to landscape. This is super annoying when trying to watch videos lying in bed.
Thanks, and thanks for your hard work!

Yeah that drives me insane too. Unfortunately I can't or don't have the patience to fix this because it seems a possible fix is in source files, not resources. I appears the problem is related to the app going into fullscreen in landscape on a phone even when auto-rotate is disabled. I use the Set Orientation app and use landscape(sensor), which will force all apps into landscape or reverse landscape depending on which side you lie on.
This is awesomeness, now we just need the screen off playback and download video mods added in and it'll be the best YouTube mod apk yet
Exactly what I needed. I even gave up the other screen off mod because this is more important for me. Big thanks. :good:
Version 2
Hey Guys I made a new version with some improvements:
New unified thumbnails layout for all thumbnails
author,views, upload time on all thumbnails
Why title on bottom? To not cover the hot chick or dudes eyes of course! :silly:
Version 2
Version 2 uploaded. Op updated. Enjoy
Very nice work!! Samsung galaxy nexus, toro. Official pacman ROM thanks...
Very thoughtful! I have sent a tip to Android Police about your work. Let's hope their coverage (if they pick this up) can make Google take notice!

Thanks for doing that. It would be great if Google does something similar to what I did so all people can have a better app. I wouldn't bet on it though since Google hasn't done anything for years. I cant be the only one who has these issues so are those people at YouTube just that dumb?
BTW should I remove version 1?
Hehe. Look closely. Of course I would not upload this without OsamaGahreeb's permission. I'll pm him and see what can be done.

I personally don't use OG's version due to the "Video not available" bug and in general the resolution selector tweak just feels broken. The best youtube downloader for me has been this one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2137743
But the idea of an all-in-one YouTube app with your interface tweaks and the integrated downloader is very tempting! If possible provide both versions (with and without OG's tweaks).
OsamaGahreeb's OGYouTube with my interface
Ok guys,
Here's a version of OsamaGareeb's OGYouTube with my interface changes applied. If you like the quality selector, download, and screen off playback features in Osama's app please go to his OGYouTube thread and show some love.
Install Instructions
Download the attached apk
Uninstall OGYouTube if you have it installed as a user app
Install the downloaded apk (make sure unknown sources is checked in settings > security)
If you only use download feature and could care less for screen off and quality selector I suggest you use this app: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2137743 because OGYouTube still has a few bugs others have reported.
Enjoy

Fixes for Kodi Context Menu with NP

As of Kodi 16 - Alpha 3 (Jarvis) they implemented a long-press feature which allows you to press and hold the Select button for a moment and the context menu will appear! Tested it last night and confirmed it worked like a charm. All I did was download the APK from the Kodi website, FTP it to my NP then run it. It upgraded with no issue and I didn't lose any of my Kodi data or settings.
Alternately, if you are not ready to upgrade you can create a NexusPlayer.XML file containing the code below and place it here: Android/data/org.xbmc.kodi/files/.kodi/userdata/keymaps/
You must restart Kodi for this change to take affect. This Keymap will make the Play/Pause button pull up the context menu when navigating the menus but will still Play/Pause when viewing media.
Code:
<keymap>
<global>
<keyboard>
<play_pause>ContextMenu</play_pause>
</keyboard>
</global>
<fullscreenvideo>
<keyboard>
<play_pause>PlayPause</play_pause>
</keyboard>
</fullscreenvideo>
</keymap>
My thoughts:
I love the NP remote because of how it feels in the hand. I hate that it doesn't have a menu button and how loud the buttons are when clicked. I can get over the clicking but not having the menu button for Kodi really sucked. So, for a while I was using the non-voice fire tv remote. Which I love! Buttons are quiet, and it has the menu button. The downside is that there is no voice without the NP remote and its very small so it doesn't feel as good in the hand.
how's stability on alpha? any chance you're using the mediaportal pvr and netflix?
xml trick worked like a charm.. thank you!

thanks, best mod so far for the NP

Android O picture in picture not working

Just installed the Android O Beta and a playing YouTube video doesn't go into Picture in Picture mode when I return to the homescreen.
Has anyone had this problem and was able to fix it, or has anyone just installed the O beta and has this working without a hitch?
Didn't work when I upgraded to the beta from 7.1.2, I have since tried a factory reset, and as far as the play store tells, there are no updates available to any app.
I installed the beta version of O today on my Pixel XL through Google beta program and picture in picture is not working for me either.
It's a reccurrent problem according to some reviews on YouTube.
I also heard that it currently only works with a YouTube red subscription...
This worked for me

Get the app "Custom Navigation Bar" from Play store, enter 171 as the keycode when you create an extra navigation button. I chose the screenshot icon as my PIP button. Works great.

Same here. Canada. Doesn't work with Chrome or YouTube.
Everyone on this thread -- the PiP mode only works for certain apps that support it. Not all apps support it. Also, all the apps that do support it will request for your permission to use the mode.
If you go to Apps & notifications > Special app access, you will find a permission node for picture-in-picture.

Thanks, mcbeat—the default behaviour is that it's turned on for every compatible app though automatically. So, unfortunately, this doesn't help ?.
Yep not working here in the UK, what's the point in having PIP as a feature if it doesn't work properly - if it's bull**** to make me get YouTube Red - then it's not working, in fact if Google did that it would be a really **** move.

New software update for Galaxy S8+ (with the additional button to hide the nav bar)

Hi, I read one article and saw some videos on youtube about the newly released update for Galaxy S8 LINK : http://sihmar.com/software-update-g955fxxu1aqf7-galaxy-s8-plus-released/
However, mine is not receiving any, the latest update on my S8 plus is G955FXXU1AQEB, my model is SM-G955F.
I personally the additional button to hide the nav bar is great!
How about yours, I'm living in Europe (France)
Thanks guys,
Updates roll out in different regions at different times.
It will be a very good update for me, because in normal use I almost never press the back navigation button, and the force-touch home button will still work even though the navigation bar isn't there. And there being no software buttons blocking the view, the bottom bezel will seem even more tiny, and the screen's roundness will be brought out more. Some people have complained about the update removing the ability to have a black navigation bar, but I don't see any point in coloring the bar black, it breaks the immersion and creates burn-ins. So no downsides for me, so looking forward to the update in the coming days (or weeks possibly?)
Native Android 7 means enable you to hide/swipe up your navbar same as it is implemented in the latest update though.
Just use ADB command line for this while you are awaiting the update.
