Does anyone know a good car mount for the Z5? The one I currently have or any others that I've seen tends to either block the finger print reader or volume keys...

I bought this one. By no means a revolution but it's sleek and doesn't take a lot of space. But if I were to use the phone in it several times a day I would probably get a bit frustrated since you need to bend that jaws open in order to insert/release the phone.

Already available for the Z5 compact (active and passive), Z5 (passive); the active mount solution for the Z5 should follow very soon... I'm expecting within the next days

Is it possible to avoid additional wiring in active version of brodit? I mean, connecting to 12V charger or sth? I always hate to change new car integrity, so as my car is 3 months old it's not good yet to modify anything [emoji14].

And I've got a new opel corsa with intellilink system, which unfortunately doesn't support android auto. Hopefully it's gonna be updated. Probably not, but maybe this miracle gonna happen. And replacing this "thing" with other infotainment will cost about 1000$, so I think I would prefer to spent money on that than on navdy.
However, the coolest thing would be a navigation on screen with a map, and navigation commands on hud. *dreaming*
End of offtopic
I'm looking for an active holder. It's shame we don't have wireless charging, connecting a cable every time is... bad

Even the case of my former Z1 fits the Z5.

Brodit is absolutely fantastic, but christ it's expensive. The mounting bracket itself for my car is ~$25 + brodit holder for my phone is nearly ~$30. $55 for a phone holder is a *lot* of money.

Another Brodit fan here - yes, they are expensive but the build quality is superb. The way I look at it is that it may cost £100 / $150 to have the brodit mount & [active] holder but over the lifetime of the car, works out at a couple of dollars a month. For me, that's worth it knowing that I'm not damaging the car by screwing things to the dash (and it's very secure) and by having a 'proper' holder / charger that won't damage the USB port over time. I've used generic holders in the past and IMHO they are simply not as good as a properly designed one.

You also have the XSP-N1BT from Sony that I think is brilliant.
I just don't now if you have a backward camera if it would be streamed to your phone as the rest of the functionnality.

That's not really a cradle / holder as it replaces your stereo head unit and there are many UK cars now that have 'standard DIN fittings. Oh, at £200 quite pricey but a very interesting concept.

I agree it is a little pricey but that the best phone integration system I could find on the aftermarket.
No cables whatsoever.
I used to use mounts but since i changed my car back in 2012, I couldn't find one that let me have access to a screen while my hand on the shift.
And in my car, unfortunaltey, the manufacturer only implemented bluetooth for phone calls, not for music (one of the two major complaints for my car).
So I always have to have a cable for music and I hate it.

I had personally bought and thrown away several classic car holders, until I discovered the magnetic ones. It gives you full access to your phone display and buttons, no scratches, quick and easy to mount, easy to adjust position, etc. With Z5, I had to stick the little metal layer circle on the back of my smart case (tough decision) but I am very happy now.
Google "magnetic car holder" for a variety of models.

It's particularily useful for us who have opted for a phone with a large screen, as we can access stuff without having to dig the phone out of the pocket.
From the press release:
The Sony Ericsson LiveView™ uses Bluetooth™ connectivity to wirelessly pair up to a compatible handset and allows consumers to control the phone without taking it out of their pocket or handbag. Read text messages, see incoming calls and keep up to date with the latest news on Facebook™ and Twitter™.
The Sony Ericsson LiveView™ allows the user to control the Sony Ericsson music [and presumably other players? - mickeko note] features of the handset from the micro display, selecting tracks and controlling volume. The product also serves as a calendar reminder, displaying calendar events and other phone applications.

It certainly looks interesting, and is the first real innovation I've seen by SE in a long time. My only gripe is that it isn't advertised as Waterproof (and probably isn't).
Pity, as that would have justified it's purchase by me, unless it's RRP is rediculously expensive
Nice device, but it would've been great if it had a 3.5mm headphone jack and a built-in mic, so you can use it as a BT hands free clip as well. , why did they left that part out

It has Bluetooth, no need wired accessories. The 3,5 mm jack takes more room and waterproofing that hole?

I might invest on something like this if it had BT headset functionality, otherwise its just a gimmick. Whats the point ?? If you are anyway going to have a wired headset then you can always get one with buttons to control calls and music. When you forget about music controlling, there is nothing much left. Read a RSS feed on a 1.3 screen when you have a 4" high res screen on your pocket or read a SMS on this tiny screen first and then take out the phone to reply
on the other hand if it acted as a BT clip it would in fact provide some functionality instead of being just a gimmick. BTW SE doesn't say this is water proof, so why would having a 3.5mm pose any problems ?

It is not waterproof.
I think that SE seems it primary as a wrist "watch". Do you really like to connect your wrist by wire to your headset? Every time when you swing your hand your headset is rolling around?
I might buy one, if the price is appropriate. I mean below 200 euros, it makes 2000 Swedish crowns.
They might make a S-version where is the 3,5 mm jacket, if the customers like to have that. Make a proposal to them.

No, definitely not as a wrist watch, maybe clip it to my shirt or something when listening to music.
Are you willing to pay upto 200 euros (275 USD) for something like that . Even an ipod nano 6th Gen doesn't cost that much (150USD ). And you can ware it as a watch too if you really want. For me a retail price of more than $75 doesn't make any sense, but still I wouldn't buy , perhaps if it comes down to like $50, then I would consider , but even then I hardly find any use for it, the time is displayed in very small numbers, and when it goes to sleep you'll have to wake it up by pushing a button to see the time, I don't see calendar or alarm functions, so its not even worth as a watch. Of course one might argue since the phone is in your pocket you don't need to have an alarm on that device, I'm just trying to find ways to justify it's cost, thats all..
no Nexus One compatibility ?
i wonder how long is the battery life on that thing
not being waterproof is already a big no no for me

I want one! If they are reasonably priced in Canada / US I will pick one up for sure.
As I recall they are about 59Euro's from Amazon germany. More expensive if from Amazon UK. I tried ordering one but they don't/won't send to AU.
I've bought one of these couple days ago for £50 off superetrader (MoDaCo Edition). I intended to use it mainly as music player control but that function doesn't work on SGS, you can control volume levels only. It's quite nice for checking incoming messages and tweets without taking your mobile out of the packet. Battery lasts about 12 hours but be aware that bt on your sgs is on all the time. Quite dissapointing is that only few apps on the market support it. I think i'm gonna sell it anyway.

Thats odd, it should support AVRCP profile (Audio/Video Remote Control Profile), and I have read somewhere that it does. Try with PowerAmp (which is better than the built in one anyways) or some other player. But built in player should work too.
Does this mean those poor souls using SE phones will finally see an update?
Yea this thing is available in France for 59e. As stated above though you can't controle the music yet, just the volume. I'm hoping this will be fixed because that's how i inted to use it, would be great to controle the music without taking the phone out of the pocket.
I thought battery life was better than 12h though...
Only thing i'm wondering about is battery consumption on the SGS itself...
and yea SE X10 are getting upgraded, 2.1 wooooooohoooooooo when 2.3 is comming out. What a shame, we complain about samsung but damn SE used to be top notch, what happened there?
I bought a sony ericsson mbw 100 instead. Battery lasts a week and the drain on bluetooth is about 5% of your battery. A negligible hit for the benefit you receive
Sent from my GT-I9000 using Tapatalk
I would have bought it if it had a mike built in as with a headphone without mike you have to use the Phones mike so will have to take it out anyway.
But if this had a mike it really could remove the need to take out the Phone.

I ordered the Arkon SM514 last night from Amazon. I've been missing my N1 car dock like crazy. I like the idea of this one from Arkon even more, because it looks like it will work great even with a case installed, and will give more angle and positioning options than the N1 dock does.
I'll post some pics once I get it installed. Can't wait!
I also ordered one of these 90 deg micro usb cables which may or may not be beneficial to use when the phone is docked. I use a USB charger in the car.
ProClip / Brodit is coming out with their custom Desire Z / G2 mount soon. It's on brodit's main site in sweden, but is not showing up on the ProClip USA site yet. I have their mount for my G1, and it's awesome. Very solid. Here's what the G2 one looks like:
Their mounts are pricey, but IMHO well worth the cost.

hmm according to pics here - http://www.arkon.com/slimgrip/assets/g2_mount_gallery/index.html you can use it in landscape mode. I am just a bit worried if the phone will not fall out in that position with nothing holding it on the bottom.
Also pics, video and manual on their website shows G2 in the product pics but not when I got to amazon or any other place that sells it. Can anyone confirm that those versions come with the extra long legs for G2 ? (part SP-SM050-LF - Extra Long Support L GN014-SBH egs (2 Pack) for larger phones)
why do you guys need to have the keyboard out while driving, doesn't make sense to me.

As soon as I get it, I'll let you know. Check out the youtube video from the manufacturer (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LH6mJB2wuko). They show it working fine in landscape. Of course that's just on a bench, not in a moving vehicle. I'll check it out for myself soon.
I'm loving the idea of being able to leave the case on to use it, though. That was one annoying thing about the N1 dock...popping the case off every time I needed to use the dock.
I also agree that driving with the keyboard out seems ridiculous.

[Q] Best Car mount for Desire HD?

Hi,
I have an universal 5$ car mount in my car, which it sticks to the windshield by Vacuum.
The vacuum suction is pretty good (comparing to my GPS other one which falls down after few minutes :\), it keeps stable for months.
But the spring arms which make pressure on both side of the mobile to hold it, are suckish.
The spring had broken 999 times and it gets really crappy (maybe a cause of the sun [its damn hot here])
So now I'm looking for a new one, I thought of universal or specificly for Desire HD,
I prefer universal so my mom and my brother will also be able to use it but if it downs the quality back to my old crap, it ain't worth it.
I'm open for any suggestion you got.
Thanks,
Yarden.
in my thread about my mazda 6 there was one who linked me a universal holder which looks to be good...
i have ordered it but havent recieved it yet
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1124985
ah the sticky one?
I'm not sure about it, I've seen an explanation video about it and the describer lady when she plugged the phone to it, she pressed so hard to make it sticks,
I don't think that's a pleasure daily mission for me.. :\
I use a Brodit and have done for about the last 5 phones i've had! they are specific to your phone & car though so not much use to your other family members. You buy it in 2 parts, a mount specifically for you car, and a holder specific to the model of your phone. If you upgrade phone, you just buy a new holder for the phone. They are superb quality and hold your phone rock solid.

yes that is one of the options i also checked out. But in my car - it's either going to cover the vents or sit somewhere i don't like - so i opted for the universal one - which the gf also can use for her wildfire

you can use the brodit mount with a herbert richter goose mount. I've done this before with my PDA and it works a treat. Unfortunately I've already binned it as I thought I would not use it since I've sold my PDA. But now I'm looking to make another one.

I have used the RAM arm for something else in the car but the mount is good.
You can get spares too for it from the dealer or direct and other ends fit too. Just said else where got a desire case from them and a discount when checking out dunno if it will work outside the UK but "TESCO 1" worked when I just shopped for a desire case and iphone charger.
btw Tesco is a big UK shop not a dj
But hey worth a go to save a few $$$ or £££
Steve
Yeah but 95% of these "castom" mounts for HTC doesn't fit if I use silicone case,
And I got pretty massive one from case mate (its double protection, silicone + plastic)
So it ain't useful for me.
Any way I bought that clips universal holder of exogear (for 33$ free shipping), when it arrive ill feedback here if it worths

I was going to get it, but the chance of me getting it now is @ about 10% now. I wanted to buy it so that I wouldn't have to take my phone out to skip a track or something. But since I have a Bluetooth set now, I don't really have a need for it.

hahaha !
I just do not want to wait:silly:
But I wanna tell you I have a Sony smart watch and compare to Pebble the Sony is terrible !
-I can't just plug the charger cable and charge Sony smartwatch. It's connecting/reconnecting., so I need to find good position for stably charge. (maybe my unit is defective).
-The sony belt is always dirty and dusty. Always.
-The screen is got a bad responding to fingers. (I know how to fix it. You need to press and hold then it will work, but it's stupid)
-Bad on sun-light.
-Battery is bad. I need to charge them every 2 days. Because after 1 day I have a half charge. (and I don't want to risk, so I charge every day.)
The design is not comparable with Pebble.
I was surprised when I saw how it looks on hand. Very solid man.
The Pebble is not using the BT 4.0 BLE, right?
I would like to buy a Casio GB-6900AA but it connects only with BLE compatible devices...

Black seems like a wise choice.
Do you think it's possible to customize with other types of straps?
What would you say the gap is aprox. (where the strap goes through)?

Yeah, the creators of Pebble already confirmed that you can use other straps.
Check out the forum @ getpebble dot com.
Does it work with a bluetooth headset connected (to the phone) at the same time? If both have play/pause/skip buttons etc..
Has anyone tried?

Yeah that should work without a problem. Each device has his own ID and from each ID the phone will receive it's commands.

It doesn't have wifi since it works with a BT connection.
Weather function to do what? Your phone could send that info to your watch tho, so the watch won't need such thing by itself.

weather on the screen with time...I really dont see why to buy this at all, I thought hard about 2 weeks and I see no functionality for it. I am either going to be with my phone or too far away for bluetooth to work so why bother.

Not sure if trolling or not, but you should not attempt to charge an electronic device near water or your child.

Are you serious?[emoji1]
1) Do not mix mains electricity and water, it tends to end bad.
2) If you are going to open the charging flap then the phone is no longer waterproof.
3) Not sure if I just got trolled by replying to this, but I could not in all good conscience let someone put a mains charger in the shower or pool with their children.
Natural selection... No, jk well, I shown a magnetic charging to my friend yesterday and he asked me if you could charge it this way underwater, so OP does not have to feel bad about his question

He doesn't have to charge from mains, which would be a very silly idea. He can use the magnetic charging point, and use a battery pack. It's only slightly less silly, though.
I'm surprised at the number of people who actually want to use their phone underwater, rather than just having the piece of mind that it should still work if you get caught in the rain.
Ignoring the fact that this is illogical, using the magnetic charger would allow your phone to stay waterproof as all flaps are closed. Again having said that, it still is not a good idea to try it.

The phone will last you long enough so that you can still use it underwater. Charging the phone under water might be a safety hazard as water and electricity don't usually mix. If you are really in need of a charger on the go, just get an external battery. They are pretty cheap on eBay and are good quality. I bought a 20,000 mah battery for 15 bucks. Best of luck.
Seriously though. Pool time is for POOL TIME. Leave the gadgets out of it.
If you absolutely HAVE to have it, don't bring in electrical cords into a pool with children?

Seriously, not trolling... Good question...
I am new to Android, and new to the Z3C. And I have a similar question to the OP, albeit for much different reasons.
The primary reason why I got the Z3C is because of its waterproof feature. I ride motorcycles. Many long distance trips. And I am not a fair weather-only rider. I use the Nokia Maps with offline map of the continental USA as my riding GPS. In the past, when it rains, I put away the Nokia 808, thus losing my GPS capability.
The appeal of the Z3C is that I will be able to keep my Z3C GPS out even when it rains. But I would like to keep it charged as well, since GPS tends to drain the battery fast. So, along the same lines as the OP, are there magnetic chargers out there that are waterproof, or at least water-resistant?
Bonus question: Is there an app in Android similar to Nokia Car Mode? It's an UI overlay that has oversized buttons and allows you to control 3 common apps for driving: Music / Maps / Cellular.
Thanks in advance!
Please post in the correct device forum, the Z3C had its own section, please search for it.
To answer your question, change the home launcher to xperia simple, it is in settings.
Magnetic chargers keep the water proof as they do not item any flaps on the phone
Thank you for your response. I am afraid you have misunderstood my post greatly.
A) My usage of Z3C is synonymous with "Z3 Compact". Just like some people call the S 1000 RR motorcycle as S1KRR. Unless there is exactly an Xperia model called Z3C (which XDA doesn't have a section for, as far as I have searched, and Sony doesn't have a model for), this should be self explanatory. But if you insist that I use the full model name, maybe I shall do so.
B) The question was, "Are there magnetic chargers out there that are waterproof, or at least water-resistant?" I am fully aware that using the magnetic charger will allow the phone itself to retain its waterproof quality. But I am asking if there are magnetic chargers out there that are waterproof or water resistant. In other words, the noun and main tangible object of the question is the charger itself, not the phone. I seriously don't think that my Magnector X2 charger itself will survive any water contact if I ride my motorcycle in the rain.
Thanks again.

My bad. I didn't realize I'm posting in the Z3 forum. I thought it was the Z3C forum.
But considering the Z3 and Z3C both have the same charging port, and uses the same charging dock station, and same charger, please allow me to rephrase my question to suit you:
Are there magnetic chargers out there that are waterproof, or at least water-resistant for the Z3?
Hope this helps?
I highly doubt that you can charge the phone in rain/water. Even with a magnetic charger, if some water gets in the charging pins, it will short-circuit. What I would do - put the USB cable in the port, and wrap it up with some tape, covering a bit from the sides of the phone.
Sent from my D6603 using Tapatalk
I would simply buy two tools - one powerbank for some huge capacity and the dimensions similar to z3/z3c, second - the waterproof case for motorcycle steering wheel (or somewhere else where you will be able to either see it and still feel comfortable).
The powerbank will extend your battery life greatly and it will be connected to yor mobile under a waterproof case.
The only problem I see there is heating.
