[STICKY] MX Player 1.8.x Alpha test - MX Player

MX Player Develepor (@bleu8888) has published a new aplha version on the official website. The first alpha version of 1.8.x is mainly having fixes for Android 6.
It is not tested properly on earlier Android. There may be some UI issues on earlier android versions.Kindly report back the issues only on this thread to keep the bug list organized.
Known issues:
Android 6 x86 is not yet supported.
HW+ decoder may be instable on some devices.
Tegra 3 is not yet supported.
Changelog:
Supports playback speed control. Speed can be changed on [Menu > Play > Speed] or by swiping up/down with two fingers. This feature is not available with HW decoder before Android 6.
SSA subtitle rendering can be improved optionally on [Menu > Subtitle > Settings > Text]. This feature only works with SW decoder as of now.
Improved network buffering.
De-interlacing algorithm can be selected between yadif and w3fdif. This feature only works with SW decoder as of now.
List screen floating button can be removed optionally on [Settings > List > Floating button].
Remembers selections/options from previous playback even if starting over playback. This behavior can be changed on [Settings > Player > Remember selection].
Fixed some issues on Android 6.
No longer supports Android 2.x, 3.0/3.1 and ARMv5, ARMv6, MIPS CPUs.

Are you kidding?
The online subtitle download feature is implemented before 5 months & you are claiming that it was broken from 4 months. As far as I know it was broken from Oct.
Regarding this issue I have already contacted the MX Player Developer. He has already contacted opensubtitles.org team. The issue is from their end. It will be resolved as soon as they fix from their end.

2 video applications with Search headline issue does. Or other applications that read seek headlines and captions know how to download and unzip the zipper. Therefore, I think that is a problem with your application, and if the problem do not go any other application.

I installed on Lollipop, it won't find my purchase and closes. Had to revert to Play Store pro version.

It keeps telling me the neon codec is not installed. When I install the codec from the play store it says its outdated

Is the audio sync feature added. If it is not please add it.

I think I may have solved the problem. I had the last nightly from a while back installed. When the new version couldn't check and closed, after installing the Play Store pro version I then installed this nightly again and it worked.

You might have installed x86 version.
Kindly install the app from first or second link (for Pro)
Both has inbuilt neon codecs.

Can you check it again. Without any updates the subtitle search function has started working again. I have personally checked.
As I posted earlier It was the opensubtitle.org issue. When they fixed it, it automatically started working again.

I installed the first link. That's why its weird. On my other devices it works fine but on one tablet it gives me that error.
On that device (android 4.1) I get that error, on other devices (> 4.1) it is all good. I think Mxplayer is looking for the neon libs in the wrong folder, since in android <=4.1 libs are in a different folder than in newer versions

[Resolved] MX Player support for Android 4.4.3

Hi,
According to AndroidPolice and other sources (sorry, can't link), Android 4.4.3 is coming.
Will MX Player work on this version or is an update necessary?
Thanks!
Sure, no reason why it should not work. MX Player requires Android 2.1 and above...

I can't add a link because I'm a new user, but there was a relatively long delay (more than a week if I understand correctly) until Android 4.4.1 and 4.4.2 support was added when they were released. Users got a dialog saying "Unsupported android version" and MX Player wouldn't load. Only when MX Player v1.7.21 was released it started working again.
You can Google "mx player unsupported android version" for references.
I just want to know the current version already supports Android 4.4.3 or is it going to show the same error.

Actually that was not a version issue but an incompatibility issue with Android internal module.
MX Player uses many Android private modules to improve playback performance.
Sometimes this private modules changes and then this message will be showed up.
In that case, audio module was changed so the developer has been forced to rewrite entire audio output codes.
That's why there was a delay.
MX Player will be compatible with android 4.4.3 if there is no major changes in Internal Module.
ktsamy is correct. Even if the developer ( @bleu8888 ) were to force compatibility, it could potentially result in no audio at all for example.
In previous versions, most problem was from incompatibility of audio output module.
With the latest version of MX Player, the compatibility was improved. Therefore I hope it works without additional patch.
There is of course no way to say for sure but going by the details that were leaked this will be a minor update and certainly not a big overhaul.
I doubt android devs will have tampered with those modules again since quite a few apps rely on those and it's not worth breaking compatibility again unless they're having to make some major changes.

I've been using BS player whenever a new version of Android comes out and therefore MX stops working.

MX Player relies on lot of android's internal modules for better performance. In the last update there was a change in audio module which was preventing the player from run.
This time it's graphics module which prevents the mx from run.
As I already said, the developer is already working on it. it will be patched as soon as possible.

Trivia question for you: when was the last update to Android that didn't break mx?
The speculation on the old mx support forum whenever there was a new version was that mx would automatically stop working whenever a new version came out - in other words, it was testing version numbers. Is this not true?
Nexus 5
Confirmed.
MX Player not working on Nexus 5 with Android 4.4.3.
Using built-in Video player till updated version is released.

Please I am having a problem plz help me, I have been trying to figure up how to set #MX_Player to player the Next video instead of returning to the list after playback is finished.

Questions for the MX-perts:
I used to be able to stream .m3u8 video streams on my nexus 9 however, shortly after upgrading to MX Pro, I receive the "unable to play this file" error.
- Any changes to MX codecs?
- I have tried SW, HW, & HW+ settings.
- I can still play m3u8 videos with the stock video player, but it stinks without any customization.
- Lastly, I have tried the neon.1.7.32.rev1codec zip with a new MX Pro installation.
I'm still getting the "unable to play this file" error.
Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Thanks!

[Bug report] system start to be slowen down after playback

Hi, I am suffering a quite strange problem.
I am using Nexus 7 LTE (2013), mx player was always working quite well until I OTA to Android version LMY48P about 1 month ago...
Whenever I start to playback, the android system UI starts to be slowen down, which means the FPS of system UI has been decreased and it looks like slides...
No matter I pause the video, I stop the video, I quit mxplayer or I force stop mxplayer, the system UI wonldn't be normal unless I reboot my Nexus 7.
I was afraid that this might be due to OTA, so I wipe my Nexus 7 clean and reinstall the system using img downloaded from Google developer site, and the bug didn't go away...
I also tried to use s/w or H/W orH/W+, they cause same problem...
It is strange that if I only open mxplayer, nothing wrong. But whenever I play something, bug occured...
I also tested that it is only the system UI is slowing down but loading and performing of apps are not infected...
Any ideas guys? It's just me or a common problem?
Android version 5.1.1 LMY48P, mxplayer version 1.7.40.

H/W decoder uses android's internal mediaplayer function to play the video. If it happens with H/W decoder, the issue might be from the system.

"bug" after 6.0.1 upgrade

Hi guys,
MX Player has been my favorite player for ages but after I've upgraded my GS5 to Android 6.0.1 it started doing something annoying. Before the update if I had a bunch of videos on a folder it would simply play one after the other. After the update the first video stops playing when it reaches the end but the next video doesn't start...instead I have to start it manually. I went to the MX Player settings, then Player and made sure the option "Back to list - return to the list after playback is completed" was unmarked. Any idea on how to fix this?

@rawfa
@Vanillo
@Ragepaw
Hope you guys are openning the videoa from either samsung file manager or Gallery. It's actually not a MX Player bug. It's a side effect of content provider. Latest Samsung File Manager and Gallery uses Content provider instead of forwarding normal file paths.
For example, MX Player will receive "content://[email protected]/external/video/media/12345" instead of actual file path. So, it may not be possible to open the next video when actual path of the file. Next button doesn't work with most of the known media players because of this new implementation.
Instead of File manager, you can use MX Player directly to open videos. If you want to use in Hierarchical Tree View, Just Go to Menu > View > Folders. To show all videos without showing any folders you may use "Files".
Thanks @ktsamy.
Unfortunate answer, but it also explains the other weird issue I have been seeing, which is MX Player showing a number instead of the filename.

Things changes with newer android versions.
From android 7.0 onwards it will be default on all apps having target SDK as 24.
It's unfortunate that Nougat will no longer allow the file scheme when target SDK is set to 24. So, either they have use Target SDK as 23 or have to switch to content scheme. But, When content scheme is used the intent receiver will not aware the actual path.[emoji20]

We have tried to reproduce the issue on the android emulator with android TV 7.1.1 firmware. But, we couldn't reproduce the issue. Can you please collect the complete system logs using ADB?

Did another bug report which includes the system logs, and used adb logcat for another log report. If there is any other log you need, you will have to give me instructions on how to get it.

We have investigated from our end. But, couldn't reproduce the issue.
Have you rooted the device and changed anything on system partition?
In your logs, we have noticed crashes on some other media related system libraries as well.
We have checked on the Google Play data as well. There weren't any similar crashes reported on the nexus player. MX Player uses several android internal modules for performance reasons. Since you are facing the issues with even older versions, it looks like some firmware bug triggers the issues on MX and some other system libraries that rely on some particular modules. can you please update your firmware to the latest and check again? It may fix your issues.

No I haven't rooted anything, not even sure how to do that. Just installed the Android TV and added apps. Using a third party launcher called 'Top TV Launcher 2'. Also have VLC and mpv players (both work fine)
When you say firmware, are you referring to the computer BIOS or the Android TV? Both are at the latest version I can find, which is not that easy to find for Android TV. Can you PM me a link to the version you are using and I will try it. Thanks.

Are you using the android TV firmware on the PC? Can you provide us more info?
As we have mentioned, MX Player uses several android internal modules to improve the performance. So, if some system module is broken on your Android TV ROM, it will affect the apps that make use of them.
Yes, the Android x86 for PC is the base OS on the PC. I tried other flavors of Android TV and MX Player doesn't work on any of them. I even tried using a different PC with different specs with same results. MX Player crashes as soon as it displays an image or plays any media.
Bump... MX Player still not working. Where do we go from here?
All the Android x86 for PC OS'es are already rooted. None of them will run MX Player. Also Amazon Prime Video and Google Video fails exactly the same way. They must use the same libraries that MX uses. What logs or info can I upload to get this resolved?
All other apps I have tried work fine. VLC, MPV, Archos, ES Player, Kodi.
Any help on this is appreciated. Tell me what logs or info I can upload.
How can I see which modules are crashing? I am not that familiar with the Android OS. Minimal Linux knowledge and a guru with Windows.
Here are the debug logs

Since it's a crash caused by the android internal libraries, it is very difficult to fix this until or unless we find a way to reproduce. Unfortunately, we couldn't still figure out a way to reproduce the issue. We have even tested on the Android x86 (7.1-r2 from http://www.android-x86.org). But, MX Player works as expected. Have you tried this one on your PC?
Yes I have this is the one I am using right now, so I have to assume it is a hardware/driver related issue. I am using a Dell Optiplex 9010 with i5-3570 4GB memory and 128GB SSD drive. What are the specs of the hardware you have used and I will try to duplicate it?
One other clue is that besides MX Player Pro, Amazon Prime video and Google video also crash as soon as you try to open a video. VLC, MPV, Kodi, ES Player, EXO, and Archos all work fine. I am sure the issues are related.
