Buddy case - General Questions and Answers

Anyone know why buddy cases aren't being produced anymore?
I crave a physical keyboard as it's still so much faster than any onscreen keyboard my friends are using.
Still can't fathom why the manufacturers have stopped making sidesliders.
But apart from that, a buddy case would suit me as well, should be fairly easy to make.
And there is a large public of people that require fast typing.
I also tried to look for a case that just has an extra pocket so I could add a generic bluetooth keyboard, nothing turns up at all.

Don't post multiple threads with the same question, if everyone did that then the forum would get cluttered and it makes it harder for members to did through the threads to find their answer.

So I found some sort of buddy case on ebay for iphone 6 5.5".
Basically it's a flipcase 'thick' enough to house both a keyboard and a phone, which seems to be very hard to find.
The bluetooth keyboard is said to be for iphone but I have one for android anyway so I'll replace that, those things are usually just glued on there.
Also the plastic click-in casing is of course for iphone but I ordered a cheap one for my phone and replace that as well.
Also need to cut out a camera hole in the back of the flipcase.
I'll try to post pictures once I'm done massacring these items.

So here it is.
The most important item is a buddy case or flip cover (however they call it) that is big enough to house a bluetooth keyboard.
I found one for the iphone 6 which could hold a 5.5" inch screen and apparently the keyboard was supported by my moto x play.
Usually the click-in plastic is taped on so you can just (gently) rip it off.
I also bought a very cheap (probably because it was pink) flip cover that has the plastic thingy where my moto x play fits in.
Used double sided carpet tape to stick the plastic click in thingy to the cover.

Physical keyboards are just so much better to type with. With virtual keyboards you must be looking to your hands all the time to type. It is just better when you can "feel" the keyboard.

Any non slider phones close to the dimensions of the Epic?

Basically, I am trying to find something close if not a tad smaller so I can get that phones gel case to use as a hard keyboard delete since I am a swype addict
have u tried any of the other galaxy s phones... or even the evo 4g/droid x... droid x may be ur bast bet as, its 4.3 in screen and its thicker battery cover should make for great a great fit for the epic... but this is just an assumption
also now that I think about it, i believe i read (possibly here in the xda forums) that there is a epic 4g gel case, i remember because it was mentiond that when its on, the slide out keyboard is inoperative, and I was think why make a case for a slider phone when u cant use the slider... on hindsight this is exactly why; for users like u... search for it!

????? I want one that doesnt slide
With a little patience and sugru I'm sure it would work. It would most likely be the best fit.
Wow that stuff is cool
Yea. I wanna try it out. But there is a less expensive alternative someone created. He calls it*oogoo.
Hot-glue it shut.
Seriously though, you could probably get a low-temp hot glue gun, put a bead right around the edge and trim it flush.
Though I still don't see why you wouldn't just keep the slider available just not pop it open. As much as I like Swype, there are always times here and there that I prefer the hard keyboard.

Are you saying to hot glue the case or the phone iteself? Lol.
As someone on android central was saying, a bumper would fix the problem.
Why don't you just trade the phone for an evo?don't ruin the phone by gluing it shut.try a case for another galaxy s phone like a T-Mobile one.I prefer hard keyboards myself.but for simple messaging the on screen keyboard does suffice.

That doesnt solve my case issue
The dimensions are 4.9"x 2.5"x 0.6"
There has to be something close. I was thinking of a samsung vibrant cheapo skin from china and hoping the tolerances were a tad on the big side, its dimensions are 4.9x2.5x0.4
Another idea...
Self fusing silocone tape.
It fuses to itself without the use of adhesives so it won't stick to your phone.
You can use it to either "fix" the ebay case or just create a bumper for it.
There is tommy tape and rescue tape. And others too if you just google it.

[Q] IS this case a good idea? Is it already made? [UPDATE]

UPDATE
I actually found a silicone case on ebay. Its not how I wanted it to be but its still cool. Its a 2 piece and come in different colors. Something cool to mention is that it goes on top of the key board. I like the black and white ones the most
------------------------------------------------------------------------
A hard or silicone case that wraps/hugs the phone. For people like me that don't use the keyboard. So once you have the case you cant open it to use the keyboard. I hate letting people use my phone and they either play with the keyboard and messes up my hinge and etc. I have a case already (clear case with kickstand) but i want a case where it just wraps the whole phone so no one can flip out the keyboard.
Who thinks this is a good idea?
is it already made and I just dont know?
I think it's a pretty good idea.
i explained to my girlfriend how i thought the hinge was flimsy and i was worried about it breaking in the future. yet she still has to slide they keyboard numerous times a day, HARD. REALLY starting to piss me off. Friends do it too... it just needs a gentle push.. jesus

The one piece silicone cases are much better then the garbage protection we have now.
I DO use rubberbands already. Do any of you still have the bands that came on the usb and headphones in the retail box? I just have one wrapped around the trackpad. It works just fine for me and the black matches my case. Still slides out of my pocket just as easily as it did before, with the gel tmo case that is.
Saves my battery, my hinge, my keyboard, and gave me a reason to flash the amazing gingerbread multitouch keyboard sweetness of doom.

Then why didn't you just get a MyTouch 4G instead? If you never use the hardware keyboard, then it is just added weight and bulk. The MyTouch 4G trades a hardware keyboard for a front camera, more RAM, faster CPU, etc.

My girlfriend got a free G2 from the tmobile loyalty program several weeks back, and she's been wanting a case like this, as she never uses the physical keyboard. I don't think it's too ludicrous of a request. If it's between a free phone that happens to have a QWERTY and one that costs $120-200, I think it's relatively a no brainer.
I'm thinking of telling her to try this case: http://www.wirelessground.com/t-mobile-g2-aluminum-black-case.html. I just hope it doesn't add too much bulk.
I so want a case like the one described above. it would be one step closer to having a Desire HD
I felt the same way, initially, but have grown rather fond of being able to see the entire screen while I type. Not so sure I'd give that up now.

Does anyone know if a case like this exists, yet is two piece, without a hinge, so the case still holds the phone together via some sort of clip mechanism?

Case that snaps shut, holding top and bottom half together?

Does anyone know of a case that is like all the snap-on cases on the market yet holds the two halves of the phone together? I envision a little clip with a button by the microphone or something that, when depressed, releases the top half of the phone to expose the keyboard.
Anything like this out there???
Thanks!

This thread is for a belt clip holster. I am looking for a case that covers the phone and holds the two halves together (via a locking closure), nothing like the innocase holster that this thread is talking about. I'm seriously thinking about doing some DIY action on a case. I'm baffled that a company has yet to make a case that addresses the "loose hinge" design of the phone...

Well they are just covering their butts by helping HTC deny that their is even a problem. If they develope product that claims to solve it then it may hurt future business relations if not bring forth some kind of lawsuit from HTC.
Sure when there's thousands of forum threads in many languages across the web aswell as a bankrupting amount of returns due to this issue.. it's still an "unofficial issue" until an important party makes it so.

Ya it's really frustrating. I accept that it's the "design" of the phone. I just want an option outside of a DIY method to help keep it closed. Shucks..

Yeah mine is loose too, annoying even when the phone is closed. Scotch tape is your only answer!
But I love the keyboard...
Sent from my rooted HTC Vision running cm6.1.1
I think the best answer for a case would be a small magnet in the case to hold the two parts together until you want to separate them. I think you might be able to DIY with an existing case, a strong magnet, and some strong glue (i don't thing super glue will work because I don't think magnet is a non-porous substance). I would try it with some tape and see how it works before breaking out the glue. Tape/glue it to the case, not the phone, so that if it goes wrong you wont be stuck with it on your phone. I'm not sure about the long term effects of a magnet right next to the phone is though, and i definitely wouldn't use anything too strong, because the innards of you phone are made from metal, and it could rip something loose or play around with you flash memory. Let us know how it goes for you, or if someone finally makes a case which addresses this issue.
+1 to the magnet idea. i've given this idea some thought too but my level of lifehackery is too noob too attemp. i do see 2 pads on the keyboard side of the phone that could possibly be a good place to put magnets if the opposing side on the screen is hollow or if the magnet is thin enough. another thought...
double sided tape?

Using magnetic tape on the sides of the keyboard has been talked about a lot and attempted by some people with success (do a search for it, there are pics of the mod).
There was also a case posted in this forum a while back that actually did have a clip that snapped the two halves together. Can't remember what it was called though.
Edit: Here is a link to that case: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=916060.

Keyboard protector

I'm looking for a 'screen protector' for the keyboard. Similar to what comes on the phone when they are new.
I haven't been able to find any online, does anyone know of one available?
There's isn't really a keyboard protector out there. There's only a rubber case that includes a rubber case for the keyboard.
I ordered myself one of these,
http://cgi.ebay.com/White-Silicone-...151471?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item255fdda62f
I recommend the light colors so you'll be able to see the keyboard and know what you're pressing. I made the mistake of buying the black one and I can't even see what I'm typing in light. Only when its dark you'll see the keyboards black light.
I am thinking about making my own template for a keyboard cover that will cover the exposed areas around the edges of the keyboard as well as in between each key... in fact, now that I've read this, I'm going to start working on it right now.
if I get something worked out that is functional, I'm not opposed to loaning you my template so you can create your own custom cover. I'm planning on making it a one piece template and using one of the ZAGG screen-cover blanks that you can buy from office supply stores for simplicity's sake.
if it works, I'll post a write-up.
Wont this result in a less haptic keyboard?
I mean, this Phone is bought because of the nice keyboard and when you put something over it, it isnt as good as before?!
the silicon "cover" would, in my opinion, make the keyboard less usable, but a thin strip of film won't affect its function.
to each his own!
I've still got the factory one on mine, but it is barely hanging on so thought i'd replace it. Will make a perfect template hopefully.
Whats the best way to cut it out?

you lucky dog!! I have been using tissue paper and drawing it with a pencil, haha.
since you already have a perfect template, I would just use a craft knife of some sort. a steady hand and some patience should yield a pretty decent template.

[Q] Back Cover Case Without Flap

Hey guys,
I'm looking for a TPU-style case for my HP Touchpad. Everywhere I look, the cases all have the front flap to protect the screen. This just seems to be a gigantic pain in the ass that I don't want to deal with.
Anyways, I have a rubber case for my EVO 3D. It's actually this Rocketfish case from Best Buy: http://goo.gl/oDOiG
Is there anything available like this for the TouchPad? I've been Googling and searching forums for forever and can't find one remotely close. Silicone cases are too stretchy and aren't glossy on the outside. This one has a rubber feel to it and is glossy, so it doesn't stick to everything.
Thanks for the help!
I've looked everywhere I could think of any haven't turned anything up. I've been using TPU cases on all my devices and prefer them over anything else so wanted the same for the TP. They don't seem very common for devices of this size to begin with though. Maybe an enterprising XDAr will step up. In the meantime I'm using the HP case which isn't bad at all.
given some time I'm sure they'll show....bear in mind this has only just become the most desired commodity....so the vendors need a sample to dish out the cases
this is what I'm after too really. Appears to be a real lack of anything decent in the UK at the moment Hopefully there'll be more released soon!
This might do, it's not exactly what you're looking for though.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/New-Leath...K_iPad_Tablet_Accessories&hash=item415cc817ba
The front piece that you can see rotated pops off so you can leave the back/front flap sections behind and still securely hold the pad in the case.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1245482
I've only seen a few rocketfish products so far and so far they seem like overpriced crap. Haven't seen they're cases though, how is it and how much was it?
I actually didn't want the HP case and my mother talked me into it. I'm so glad she did. The flap doubles as a stand, and two positions, one angled for typing easier and one standing up so you can watch stuff easier. Totally worth it imo.
I'm actually thinking about funding another HP case and just slicing off the flap and putting a screen protector in...would do for the near term. Honestly I haven't yet found a situation in a week and a half where the stand part was useful.

Really? At least for me I found that the lower position with the HP case is a perfect viewing angle for when I have the Touchpad in my lap. It also makes it much easier to type.

I tend to either sit with my knees up (I have a knee injury and until surgery in October I have my lt knee up a lot) or I hold the TP with both hands and type with my thumbs...in either case I have no use for the flap.
Unfortunately I tried yesterday to find another case but couldn't - did find more Touchstones but one of those is enough for me.
