A: Yes
Q: What code is Oct-M based on?
A: Starting with Oct-M, we rebased OctOs on AOSP code. After a short love affair with AOSP we had to make the move back to CM as a base.
Q: What happened to AOSP?
A: Well despite our efforts & our call for help, in the end we we're just to short staffed. We had to use CM as a base for our CAF devices & trying to maintain two branches just became overwhelming.
Q: Why isn't there XXXXXXX feature.
A: Shoot us a Suggestion if you want to see something added. While we are not going to promise to implement, we will always look into it
Q: But XYZ rom and all the others have..
A: ROM developers build something they want to use. The ROM developer that includes something they won't run implies less than 100% effort to ensure it does work. As a team, we have similar goals and objectives. If XYZ ROM has a feature you want, and we don't include (or don't want to include), feel free to use XYZ ROM, or build your own custom version of Oct-M.
Q: Superuser or SuperSU?
A: Team OctOs uses SuperSU and is installed automatically.
Bugs:
Bugs happen. Our testers are very good at breaking things, but no where near as good as the rest of the Android public. In order to investigate and fix issues, we need the help of the users who are going to report them. The Android OS has many nifty features to help us in this, but only if we can engage the user to assist us.
Logs, Logcat, and the Android Debugging Bridge (ADB)
Like any other OS, Android has multiple log files that are generated and record the goings-on of the system. As a user, you have two basic ways to view and pull these to send to us. Without the information in the logfiles, there simply is not a whole lot of information to go on.
Log file APKs
Team OctOs recommends SysLog from the Android Market. This application will allow you to selectively pick any (or all) of the system logs, compress them into a .ZIP file, and allow you to save, email, move to your Copy/DropBox/Cloud Storage account, etc.
ADB Logcat
The Android Debugging Bridge (ADB) is a powerful tool available from Google as part of the Android Software Development Kit (SDK). Used for many things, being able to selectively see, in real-time, what your device is doing cannot be downplayed. While there is more setup involved, if you are doing consistent ROM flashing, you really should invest the time to get setup properly to do it.

Basic Instructions:
Download ROM .zip file and MD5 file, and grab your favorite gapps package.
Reboot to Recovery (Note: Use Reboot to Recovery from Power Menu, Hardware-based boot to recovery, or adb reboot recovery - ROM Manager or similar software is NOT supported)
--- TWRP is the ONLY recovery Team OctOs uses - We do not support flashing on CWM ---
Factory Reset from TWRP
Flash ROM and GApps .ZIP files
Reboot
The Oct-M ROM installation script will automatically wipe /system, /cache, and /data/dalvik-cache. There is no need to do these before or after flashing the ROM unless you are instructed to by your GApps Provider

As you guys are rolling out M builds now, is there any way you could have the oct-l thread locked to avoid confusion? If not, no big deal, just an idea. Keep up the good work.
You know for some reason I have been unable to edit any of my threads. I have tried 2 different pc's , my phone, Linux OS,Windows 10 etc etc. Finally I was able to edit this thread today and instead of editing it created 3 new threads. Luckily a moderator helped me delete them. I'll do my best to get rid of the Lollipop thread to avoid confusion . But so far XDA and I are not doing well lol

First off, thanks for all your hard work. Have been running Oct M for a day now and all is fine except for a couple of things; 1. Camera fc'd then forced reboot; 2. This is a bit strange. When I tried to attach a photo [in gmail] using the photo icon, google+ fc'd and I was dumped back to email I was trying to attach the photo to. However, when I tried again using the image icon instead I could then sellect and attach the photo I wanted, no problem. I've never seen this before...
Anyway, apart from that, brilliant work..

Does this ROM include features like customizable navbar and Privacy Guard (most important features for me)? Wanted to try it, but MultiROM won't let me install it as secondary. Got many apps installed and just wanted to know before factory reset and recover all apps with TB (takes quite a while)...

Privacy guard not yet. Some nav bar customization is in rom now. We will be adding more features as we go.

Initial m release is excellent overall. I noticed that I can't seem to find a way to change the bottom shortcuts on the lockscreen... And the border on the navbar that goes 3/4 across the screen is strange, but great start. I don't flash nearly as many roms as I used to, but had to try this, and am glad I did.
Just an FYI to anyone that runs across this same issue. After flashing ROM message appeared in SU that root was lost & I would have to root my device again. Instead I flashed the latest beta SuperSU 2.52 & all was well again.
My 1st impressions of ROM are great. I've run several versions of 6.0 on this device & all have been quirky. They've been slow in certain instances & haven't played nice with all of my apps. Octo however has been fluid, responsive & very cohesive with all of my apps. Great work dev team, thank you!

Thank you for the kind words! Although your SuperSU experience is puzzling to me. You didn't by chance wipe system before install did you? The block system does that for you. Therefore we recommend you factory reset, flash rom,gapps and reboot. SuperSU should flash on its own with no issue. Our testers only experienced the no root issue when they wiped system.

Yes I did. I did read the install instructions & saw that but didn't realize that just a "factory wipe" was crucial to the install. It's just customary for me to do a completely clean install when changing ROMs. Thanks for pointing that out as I was curious. Hopefully users will read this before making the same mistake. Again great ROM. Its been rather frustrating with 6.0 & the ROMs I've flashed. Yours seems to be the ticket though.

Well we were in the final testing phase of a new release and Google went ahead and started releasing 5.1. As a result we are working on incorporating that into our ROM which will take a little more time.

It could be your tablet's problem, as mine charged fully from zero in less than 2hrs. Have you tried a battery wipe /calibration?
Anyway my congratulations for the rom, my tablet seems reborn after being with stock 5.0.2

Loaded it up this morning. Everything booted ok and so far all is well. Off the bat it's pretty smooth. Once it settles in I should be able to get a good feel for battery life. Data and wifi connected fine.

Charged it to 100% at 8:30 this morning. Almost 5 hours later with admittedly light use ( some texts, several emails, one 10 minute phone call, about 20 mins of SOT ) and my phone is still at 96%. It's deep sleeping so well I think I hear it snoring.
I keep checking it just to make sure it hasn't gone into "sleep of death" mode and in need of a battery pull but so far so good.

dear dev, please add ROM features to the thread! some of them are obvious just by looking at the screenshots but some aren't... like I have no idea if double-tap to wake feature is supported or not, several more are unclear as well. thanks in advance!

Good question. One idea, do you have "Google" app installed? I know that you said app for voice-to-text. Can anyone else confirm voice dial yea or nea?

I just checked it on my phone and it's works fine. In fact "ok Google" from any screen works as well.

So far 2 days in and this is most bug free 5.1 rom I've used and I've tried them all. Great job. Also the best one for battery life as well.

Yes I have the Google app... Specifically I'm trying to do " voice dial" when I press the button on my tone pro headset, it worked on resurrection remix but I can't get it to work on CM, PA or this..... Maybe I screwed up Google settings or I need a different gapps package....I I could find a way to do all this without Google I would.... I don't really care much for anything voice other than phone or SMS when I need it, maybe I'll drink the Google now koolaide in the future but idk
In the voice input settings under the Google voice settings there's an option for hands free and in that are two options for bluetooth or wired headset.

Tried, still no dice switched to the Banks gapps too.... It's OK guys I'll get around it eventually, I'm able to get the Google listening with the button but when I say "call xyz" it says "there is a problem with Google” I'm used to when I push the button a digital female voice says " say call followed by name or number" in "voice dailer" which hopefully isn't getting phased out in these newer builds. Thanks for each of your input, it's a real head scratcher 4 me

About Us:
Dirty Unicorns is a project that started out with no name. It was a project that was first based off AOKP back in the early days of Jelly Bean. In the early days it was just a one man show on one device, the EVO 3D. Since then, many others have joined the project and it has grown exponentially.
We have seen a lot of talent contribute to this project of ours. Big or small, the focus was always on contributing to the community. That is ultimately why we do what we do. After Jelly Bean, we decided to move to a new base, OmniROM. While AOKP was fun, OmniROM proved to be even more exciting base because it challenged us to see what we could do with a project that had different goals in mind. We learned a lot and again, gain contributors. With Lollipop, we moved to an AOSP base with a lot of patches from CAF to make our older devices function as they should. We grew even more and learned a whole lot more.
It has been an awesome learning experience and is still not over! We are still learning every day and continue to move forward. Lastly, we DO NOT accept, nor ask, for donations. We don't believe in that. Everything that is necessary to keep this project going is out of our own pocket. Gerrit, Jenkins, Websites, Devices, etc. We will never ask for a dime. All we do ask, is that you have patience, search, read and try to enjoy the process with us!!

This is due to restoring data/apps from Google. Go ahead and clear data and cache for theme chooser and theme provider then reboot you should be good moving forward.
I changed my LCD density and now the navbar looks weird, what gives?
This is currenly an issue that we are aware of and addressing. For now after you changed density reset navbar layout or stay on the stock density.

I had the firmware TeamEOS. Wipes are made in TWRP and flashed Dirty Unicorns.
Everything works well!
Touchscreen does not work on kodi, like all other non stock ROMs. Other than that touchscreen works fine. Not aware of any other bugs. Working on getting marshmallow proper. Boots up, but sound is a little unstable and video doesn't work.

Im from Malaysia and i bought the Shield Tab from local online seller but the sim locked with AT&T.
ive tried everything, even contacted AT&T but still nothing...Anyone here can help me..?? Obviously custom rom didnt fix it..

Haven't pulled in those functions yet.
Flashed DU with no issues, but Banks Dynamic GAPPS will not flash.
Hands down the best rom for this tablet. Runs smooth as butter, great battery life, and none of the audio issues that plagued all the other roms ive tried. This should be the definitive custom rom for the shield tablet.

I havent tried the latest r29 build so I can't comment on it but I gave up on blisspop with r28. I switched to TeamEOS ROM which i liked but development was stopped and then transitioned to Dirty Unicorn.
I fully recommend this ROM. The only issue I have run across is the battery saver option won't allow you to change the color from the default . The color change option doesn't work and apparently the shield cqontroller doesnt work with Kodi. I dont have the shield controller so I can't comment on that either.
I'm using slim zero gapps and not the ones recommended with the rom.
I really hope this ROM takes off.

I haven't seen any limitations at the moment other than the Kodi bug with the shield controller not working with the app. As far as user experience goes, it's been hands down the best I've seen for custom roms on this tablet.
I don't think the NVIDIA functions work at all on this rom, which is what is stopping me from giving it a test drive.
Hopefully the nvidia apps will be integrated into a usable state soon.
as for KODI, does it work with the touch screen? or is it just the controller that doesn't work?
I'm having some issues. I did everything as mentioned. I came from a rooted stock L and after installing DU and the Du TBO Gapps, not 64 bit version, I boot to the home screen and nothing pops up without an error. So format and reinstall again but I can't move forward because I can't access the store to do updates that it says it needs because I can't connect to my wifi. Here is the MAIN problem. When I go to settings to connect to wifi my keyboard won't work. "Unfortunately, Android Keyboard (AOSP) has stopped." How do I fix this?

Flash other gapps than TBO. Slim zero worked for me, but I am sure other ones work too.

A: Yes
Q: What code is Oct-M based on?
A: Starting with Oct-M, we rebased OctOS on AOSP code. After a short love affair with AOSP we had to make the move back to CM as a base.
Q: What happened to AOSP?
A: Well despite our efforts & our call for help, in the end were just to short staffed. We had to use CM as a base for our legacy CAF devices & maintaining both branches just became overwhelming.
Q: Why isn't there XXXXXXX feature.
A: Shoot us a Suggestion if you want to see something added. While we are not going to promise to implement, we will always look into it
Q: But XYZ rom and all the others have..
A: ROM developers build something they want to use. The ROM developer that includes something they won't run implies less than 100% effort to ensure it does work. As a team, we have similar goals and objectives. If XYZ ROM has a feature you want, and we don't include (or don't want to include), feel free to use XYZ ROM, or build your own custom version of Oct-M.
Q: Superuser or SuperSU?
A: Team OctOs uses SuperSU and is installed automatically.
Bugs:
Bugs happen. Our testers are very good at breaking things, but no where near as good as the rest of the Android public. In order to investigate and fix issues, we need the help of the users who are going to report them. The Android OS has many nifty features to help us in this, but only if we can engage the user to assist us.
Logs, Logcat, and the Android Debugging Bridge (ADB)
Like any other OS, Android has multiple log files that are generated and record the goings-on of the system. As a user, you have two basic ways to view and pull these to send to us. Without the information in the logfiles, there simply is not a whole lot of information to go on.
Log file APKs
Team OctOS recommends SysLog from the Android Market. This application will allow you to selectively pick any (or all) of the system logs, compress them into a .ZIP file, and allow you to save, email, move to your Copy/DropBox/Cloud Storage account, etc.
ADB Logcat
The Android Debugging Bridge (ADB) is a powerful tool available from Google as part of the Android Software Development Kit (SDK). Used for many things, being able to selectively see, in real-time, what your device is doing cannot be downplayed. While there is more setup involved, if you are doing consistent ROM flashing, you really should invest the time to get setup properly to do it.

Basic Instructions:
Download ROM .zip file and MD5 file, and grab your favourite gapps package
Reboot to Recovery (Note: Use Reboot to Recovery from Power Menu, Hardware-based boot to recovery, or adb reboot recovery - ROM Manager or similar software is NOT supported)

Factory Reset from TWRP
Flash ROM and GApps
If you are not encrypted flash the above posted mod or a kernel that does not enforce encryption
Reboot
The Oct-M ROM installation script will automatically wipe /system, /cache, and /data/dalvik-cache. There is no need to do these before or after flashing the ROM unless you are instructed to by your GApps Provider
The foundation of the Android OS is the fact that is it open-source. We have all code we use internally in the creation of Oct-M available on our GitHub repositories.
Unless otherwise specified, all Oct-M builds use the device's stock kernel.

Well I've always had issues with booting cmte ROMs. This actually booted and it's running good so far. Thank you because layers ROMs were getting boring to me.

Just a heads up, we've pulled all of the 3/12 weeklies because there was an upstream change by CM that caused APN, no sim/no data issues across most of our devices . we are currently rebuilding a set of new weeklies with fixes in place. New builds will be up by tonight, thanks for understanding!

A: Yes, this is Android 7.1.2
Q: What code is Oct-N based on?
A: This version of Oct-N is based on LineageOS 14.1
Q: Why isn't there XYZ feature?
A: Shoot us a Suggestion if you want to see something added. While we are not going to promise to implement, we will always look into it
Q: But all the others have..
A: ROM developers, build something they want to use. The ROM developer that includes something they won't run implies less than 100% effort to ensure it does work. As a team, we have similar goals and objectives. If XYZ ROM has a feature you want, and we don't include (or don't want to include), feel free to use XYZ ROM, or build your own custom version of Oct-N.
Q: What about root?
A: Root is removed by default (user will be able to flash which ever root zip they want)
Bugs:
Bugs happen. Our testers are very good at breaking things, but no where near as good as the rest of the Android public. In order to investigate and fix issues, we need the help of the users who are going to report them. The Android OS has many nifty features to help us in this, but only if we can engage the user to assist us.
Logs, Logcat, and the Android Debugging Bridge (ADB)
Like any other OS, Android has multiple log files that are generated and record the goings-on of the system. As a user, you have two basic ways to view and pull these to send to us. Without the information in the logfiles, there simply is not a whole lot of information to go on.
Log file APKs
Team OctOs recommends SysLog from the Android Market. This application will allow you to selectively pick any (or all) of the system logs, compress them into a .ZIP file, and allow you to save, email, move to your Copy/DropBox/Cloud Storage account, etc.
ADB Logcat
The Android Debugging Bridge (ADB) is a powerful tool available from Google as part of the Android Software Development Kit (SDK). Used for many things, being able to selectively see, in real-time, what your device is doing cannot be downplayed. While there is more setup involved, if you are doing consistent ROM flashing, you really should invest the time to get setup properly to do it.

Basic Instructions:
Download ROM .zip file and MD5 file, and grab your favorite Open Gapps package http://opengapps.org
Reboot to Recovery (Note: Use Reboot to Recovery from Power Menu, Hardware-based boot to recovery, or adb reboot recovery - ROM Manager or similar software is NOT supported)
--- TWRP is the ONLY recovery Team OctOs uses - We do not support flashing on CWM ---
The Oct-N ROM installation script will automatically wipe /system, /cache, and /dalvik-cache. There is no need to do these before or after flashing the ROM unless you are instructed to by your Gapps Provider. When dirty flashing weekly updates, you MUST reflash Gapps along with any other files, apps, custom mods or kernels etc.. (anything that resides in system partition)
Flash ROM, GApps and any additional .ZIP files
Reboot

This is AWESOME!! Correct me if I'm wrong but it looks like there's a placeholder for LineageOS-based OctoOS but not AOSP. Any chance there'll be an AOSP version for our precious d2vzw?

We tried to get AOSP working for D2 (among others) when I was at PACROM working on M. Let's just say that trying to support devices on AOSP without upstream support is a big reason why PAC burned out and disbanded.
That's a long way of saying: No.

I just checked and f2fs support is in the kernel. I haven't tested it, but if you do, please report back.

I tested it and working f2fs on data and cache..when formatting system to f2fs it doesnt boot

If you can wait until friday, I'd go with the new build. There's a fix for the TWRP backup problem coming. All N ROMs have this issue, soon all will have fix because I sent it upstream to lineage.
please , i am not getting mobile network....there is a sim card but it says, no sim card.
Latest weekly has the TWRP fix. Reports from users who have installed, backed up, and restored this ROM are welcomed.

Try the latest build. The TWRP fix might also fix your issue.

What build are you using? Who is your carrier? Did you flash opengapps? Xposed? Clean flash?
I just may give this a try since I have been having some issues with the Unofficial LOS14.1.

I have flashed it with OCT-N-WEEKLY-20170120-2100-d2vzw with opengaps and did a clean flash, my local company is Telcel mexico. Thanks!!!
This and the Unofficial LOS14.1 has been giving problems with both the WiFi Data and the Mobile Data. The WiFi connects but, no Internet and the Mobile connects to the tower but, no mobile data and the APN is good.
After doing a bit of research, i found that, for no apparent reason, the MAC address may not be correct for many individuals who are having the same issues.
Somehow the MAC address requires a manual correction within the Nougat in order for the Data to connect.
I found that this happens with other devices but, not all.
Has anyone ever looked into this?

I had previously used the Logcat and when I, and a few others, had reviewed it deeply, we saw the data issue but, nothing specific to the MAC. There won't be any annotations specifically regarding the MAC, only the errors that were returned when anything attempted to access the WiFi or Mobile Data (ie.. The Play Store).
I'm still hacking out some ideas to grab the MAC while in CM13 and when the Nougat is installed, the MAC will be verified and changed within the System.
I have some manual commands but, looking to create something easier, like a flash file, to perform the necessary changes.
From what I can find, so far, within the "/efs/wifi/" directory, there is a file ".mac.info" that has the MAC address.
A work in progress but, am always looking for constructive input.
