Would the OnePlus 2 be more suitable for those of us who need root? - Blu Pure XL

Given the possibility that we might never gain root on the Blu Pure XL, would the OnePlus 2 be a better deal?
Pros:
* Root!
* 1GB more RAM
* Better UI?
* Much larger dev scene
* Band 12 LTE
Cons:
* Costs $40 more
* No NFC. Then again the Pure XL has no Android Pay even it has NFC
* No expandable storage
Depends on personal preferences:
* Smaller 5.5" LCD
* Snapdragon 810
* USB type C

If root is what you want then yes.

I have a OnePlus 2, my wife has the Blu Pure XL. We're both very happy with our phones.
Obviously if you need root your choice is clear. In my wife's case, she needs a huge screen and a fantastic camera. I have rooted my phone but so far gained little benefit from the job (except for backing up) but it's great anyway.
Both phones are pretty amazing and hard to top, IMHO.
(Incidentally, both of us have differing problems with using dual SIMs, but that's a topic for another thread)

What to choose from Google Nexus 4 or Samsung S3 or Another..??

Hi all..
In the coming weeks I'm due an upgrade..
I'm currently in the process of doing research on which phone to purchase..
So far I have short listed some phones.. my final decision will be bad on a few factors.. I was going the good old peeps here at xda can assist/help me choose the right phone..
Factors..
1. Phone spec (processor, phone ram, internal/external sd etc)
2. Development (is it easy to root, custom rom development)
3. Look and feel
PLEASE FEEL FREE TO GIVE YOUR OPINION.. GIVING YOUR REASONS AS TO WHY CONSIDERING THE FACTORS MENTIONED ABOVE..

Im in the same situation .. I'll most likely go for the Nexus 4 simply because it's a nexus decide .. First for updates .. Yes please
But on the otherhand the S3 is a better multimedia device seeing as you've got alot more storage compared to the 16GB on the nezus
Sent from my LT15i using xda app-developers app
Yes me too, the storage factor it's an important issue..
Which of the two are the two are easy to hack > root and custom roms.. and easy to restore from soft unbrick..
Any ideas
Samsung S4

If money is important, you can buy the nexus from the play store and ask you carrier to forward the money for the new phone upgrade to the payments for the service. This could save some money and you would still be able to use the Nexus 4.
Spec wise, the N4 wins hands down. If storage really is an issue though, then the Quad Core S4 Pro, 2 GB of ram, and the absolutely gorgeous display won't matter. All you'll get hung up on, is how you don't have more than 16GB of storage. Development wise, its a Nexus...'Nuff said.
Look and feel wise, this is the most beautiful device I have ever held. Its not heavy, but it doesn't have a cheap plastic feeling to it like Sammy phones do either. Its light, fits in the hand well, and is just nice to look at it. There's not really any cons to this phone. The only thing you'll notice coming from Amoled displays is the blacks aren't as deep. You get over it quick though the more you use it and notice the lack of over saturation, and increased clarity. And I'll be sure to let you know what Key Lime Pie is like if you go with the GS3.
Also, being contract free, is a truly liberating experience.

i had a GS3 but sold it for a nexus 4. coming from an iphone 4, the GS3 is an excellent device. I wasn't too crazy about how the GS3 handled receiving MMS, but the screen was the ultimate reason for the switch. Everyone talks about how great the AMOLED display is but I just couldn't handle how it viewed when outside in direct sunlight. I never needed external storage and I live in an area that doesn't have LTE yet, so changing to the NEXUS4 wasn't that big of a downgrade for me. Actually, I love it! I did consider the Optimus G, but the lack of Google Now and Jelly Bean pushed me towards the N4. Couldn't be happier..
I would wait a bit for the next Nexus or Galaxy S to come out before deciding, otherwise I would have to say between Nexus 4 and S3. Depends on the functionality and specs that matter to you most.
Maybe you might consider the Galaxy Note 2. Quad core Exynos, 2GB RAM, non-pentile SAMOLED 5.5" screen, S-pen, LTE if you live in an area with it, monster up-time because of the huge removable 3100 mAh battery (I easily do 24 hours on a single charge with 6 hours screen-on time), and SD card.
Sent from my SPH-L900 using xda app-developers app
The nexus4 sounds very appealing as per above comments.. I can live without sd expansion..
What about hacking side, which is easier and in development.. meaning which it's easier to root, flash custom roms etc etc
Does anyone know when either nexus or samsung next new phone will be released..??

I need some advice!

So I have the Nexus 4 but i was really debating on either getting the nexus 4 or the s3 and still not sure i did a lot of research but i want to know from you guys. What is better? and should i switch from my nexus 4 to a s3
It all depends on wjether you like stock or skinned, camera, expandable storage, internal storage, dual or quad core, and soo many others. In terms of overall horsepower the nexus 4 is obviously a win as it uses the next iteration of the snapdragon S4 called the S4 Pro. Both are fantastic processors with the consensus being better battery life on the S3 from what ive read. Also user replaceable battery(I dont personally ever replace the battery on my phones that have this but others do) . If photo's are your thing, S3 again. Storage-S3. While the S3 is probably one of the most highly developed non Nexus device, it wont recieve the support the nexus will from Devs. No question. Also, while the S2 launching with GB and now being on JB is very impressive from Samsung nothing beats updates coming straight from el Goog(Like N4).
I could do this back and forth foe quite a while but it gets repetitive. Basically in my OPINION it is simple. If you are a power user both are good powerful devices. However the Nexus would be a better choice hands down if this is your intended use. If you are more of a casual user who uses social media, listens ro lots of music and snaps lots of pix--the S3 is likely your best choice. It offers much better camera with larger internal storage available and also supports up to 64GB with MicroSD.
Finally if you like to dress ur phobe up, the S3 is PROBABLY a better choice since it is the single best selling android phone ever released. They are both great phones neither of which you can go wrong with. Good luck

I say nexus 4 is better than s3. You got a quad core Krait there which Beats out s3. But if you prefer a expandable storage, bigger battery you can get s3.
But you have a nexus 4 and still want to get 1 more.?

In my opinion
Samsung Galaxy S3 is much better, especially because of more powerful firmware. And of course You can install clean AOSP firmware on S3 anytime.
i'm not a big fan of lg..but between these 2 phones i prefer nexus 4..keep it

Wondering if I should buy One S. Any useful information is welcomed!

hi everyone!!
I come here to get information about the One S I'm planning to buy one very soon from Virgin Canada.
I'm pretty new to Android (and in general to smartphones) since I owned a Blackberry for 2 years and I switch to Android (Samsung Galaxy Ace II X) ~2 months ago. This is a great phone but sometimes too slow (single CPU). So I'm planning to buy a more powerful cellphone and I thought to the HTC One S. My wife has the One V, I like it even it's not powerful enough for my use.
So here are my questions:
- is there different submodels of the One S? (VilleC ?)
- is Android 4.0.3 the current version of the One S?
- will it get 4.1?
- is it easy to root?
- something I like with my Samsung is the number of "pages" (?) available for icons and widgets (7) and the fact they are cyclic (i.e. can go directly from 7 to 1). My wife One V has only 4 (5?) "pages" and it's not cyclic. What about the One S?
And most important: what are the cons of this phone? For instance on the Galaxy Ace II X, the way the external SD card is mount is a problem, or the fact that some people complain about cuts out while listening music, etc. Is there anything I should know about the One S?
Thank you for your replies.
for instance I just saw some One S have been sold with S3 CPU instead of S4 CPU, is Canada concerned by these models?

No, the s3 model is for the Asian market and is not sold in Canada.
The paging on the home screen is the same as the one v (non cyclic).
The two models are the Asian marketed s3 (1.7ghz dual core) and the international s4 (1.5ghz) and lastly the same as the s4 but only available in Taiwan is an S4 with 64gb of memory.
It is easy to root and there are guides on the one a development forums to help you do that.
Some Canadian carriers have released a jellybean update for the one s while some others have not so you might me on ICS for a bit.
Hope I helped somewhat. Please hit thanks if I did. Have fun if you get a one s

thank you, you answered lots of my questions! I see you have a One S as well, any cons you may think of?
Also, is there any app that could change the paging? Is it what we call a "launcher", like Nova Launcher?
Are you getting it cheap? I would say avoid if you have to sign up to a contract/plan - for sure buy if cheap or 2nd hand!
good points for me are:
Just right screen size - not too big not too small
I can load any ROM from latest JellyBean ( 4.2.2 ) to any of the Sense ones ( search for Viper ROM ) or even use Stock. There is heaps of active development on this model.
As above full unlock and S-OFF (all security off )
standard micro USB connector - friends/colleagues have latest iphones (lightening connector) or Androids
reasonable battery life - will easily last me a full day
Fast data performance (HSDPA+ ) - I get up to 10Mbps which around here is exceptional
looks cool
bad points for me are:
No sdcard and limited internal memory - you get about 9Gb usable
Too thin - until I got a case I kept dropping it when using it one handed
speaking of cases - there isn't a great variety ( phone is abit yesterday news for good looking cases )
n/a points for me:
I don't use the camera or video - but they are very good
The LED flash isn't great but will do the job
Best thing about Android - you change anything. Don't like the pager/launder: Change it. Indeed I use Nova.
Keep in mind OP that the Jelly Bean update removes scrollable wallpaper in exchange for a repeated cycle of pages on the launcher. e.g page 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 , 6, 7, 1, 2 etc.

They still also sell the S3 in Taiwan, but alongside the S4 (as a different phone altogether) with 64GB internal storage which they call the One S SE (One S Special Edition). The S3 (Snapdragon S3, also called z560e or VilleC2) as far as I know is still marketed as the One S.

thanks! actually I think I can get it brand new for $150 I was also looking at Nexus 4 ($360) and Galaxy SII X ($300) but I won't really play games or look at videos with this phone I just need something to quickly switch between emails/SMS/calls/internet browser (business use, always in a rush...), which my Galaxy Ace II X doesn't do very well. That's why I want a dual-core CPU phone with a 4"-4.5" screen and Android 4+. External SD card would have been great though.
This phone is by far the greatest phone I've ever had. Here are my pros/cons:
Pros:
- Perfect screen size. Not to big, not to small.
- Its FAST for its price. I got this phone back when it was about $500, and i don't regret it.
- Amazing camera.
- Easy to root
- Great for gaming, movies etc.
- I hear negative things about the screen, but j love the colours it puts out. They're very vibrant.
Cons:
- Battery life. I can get about 3 hours screen time with the P.A.C man ROM.
- Sense 4+. I really don't like what HTC did with jellybean (Sense 4+, Jellybean 4.1). I feel like they removed features, and found it yo be a little slow.
- Non removable battery. I feel like its a good thing to have.
- Non removable storage. You're stuck with whatever's inside. (I've still haven't managed to max it out).
If you can get the One S for $150 like you said, get it. Its worth it. Don't spend thr extra $150 for the nexus. If you root the One S and flash a stock 4.2.2 android ROM, you'll be getting the exact same experience.

I just got a One S slightly used for $180 from craigslist/kijiji.ca. Pretty good price considering what you get which is dual core 1.5G and lots of RAM/ROM. It is an S4 as are all Canadian versions.
It's quite a bit faster than my other phone which was only single core 1Ghz.
I had a bit of trouble following some of the rooting and s-off procedures but I eventually got it figured out. It's not point and click unlocking s-off ing yet like some of the other phones that have been around longer but it will probably get there eventually.

thank you. I agree with you, removable battery and storage are great features but for that price and this power I think I'll be happy with a One S, and I'll probably root it. Just for fun
I should have it by Thursday. Several cellphone sellers told me to go with the Nexus 4 but I guess they just wanted me to spend more. For my use, a dual-core CPU will be just fine.
My biggest loss of getting his phone is the lack of an SD card reader, never thought it was a big deal till I had to go without and it quickly became an issue.

I agree. For me it's not really a problem since I don't plan to store music/pictures/videos on this phone, but that's definitely a bad point for this cell. And for Nexus 4 as well since it has no external storage neither!!
The Nexus 4 exists in 2 models, 8GB and 16 GB, so maybe the lack of external storage can make people buying the 16GB model, but the HTC One S doesn't come with different storage sizes, and that's a pity.
It's a great phone, and now that Bell/Virgin has released the 4.1.1 update it has been brought into early-2013 standards (only the Nexus line has 4.2.x as of today).
Some people don't like the changes that JB brought but overall the phone for me has improved.
If you buy a case consider this one: http://www.amazon.ca/dp/B007ZTA522/
I really suggest getting a ballistic SG case as the phone is really thin and delicate. Plus the case is super sexy, feels great in your hand,is grippy and is as strong and durable as an otter box case if not more.

I still dont feel that my note is slow

Hi folks its been a year and a month since i am using my note. It was a revolutionary but an experimental device back than. But me being a surgical resident having too many note books and notepads in my lab coats pocket i found the stylus meaningful.
I have been using it extensively for work, research an ebook, as a pic journal and for communication and emails as well as entertainment. I have been too much satisfied with my device. For me it didnt lag or i never felt its slow for me. Not much of a gaming person. No time for games. But i am not sure what is the criteria for a device to be obsolete.
Like oem for android support their device only for 18 months. So does it means that our beloved devices have just 18 month life ????
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda app-developers app
Some of the OEMs don't even support their device for 18 months. ( yeah motorola and LG I'm talking about you)
But for the note, there is so much development going on. When they are yet to push 4.1 for you guys, devs have already come up with 4.2 ROMs.
They are much better than stock ROM could ever be. But i don't think that the S stuff (like s memo) work on them (they need the Sammy framework or some ****)

Ur right i am lucky in a sense that my phone got 3 major stock releases. But still the question remain, when is the best time to change the phone or when is the service life of a phone is over?
For now i am planning to keep my phone for a few months and then I will plan for a switch. But after my phones release there are 3 different updated quad core processors but are they really worthy to have??

It's upto you to decide when to change the phone.
Of course newer phones are better. Consider note 2 compared to note 1 , a bigger screen, 2 gig RAM, better camera, quad core, NFC, bigger battery and more.
But since note is getting almost every new features of note 2 and s3 via the update, i suggest you wait till note 3 or get an s4.
The BEST time to change the phone is when you are completely bored with what you have and there is no more support from devs / OEM.
The quad cores do make a difference in terms of performance or a bit more battery life. But not really by a great amount. And again it depends on which SoC we're talking about.
Like a Dual core Krait can beat a quad core Tegra 3.
Some are just a hype, some for real make difference!

LIFE!
IT'S WHAT YOU MAKE OUT OF IT!
Thanks, yes i am looking forward for a note 3. Note has been such a great companion and got almost every other feature of note2.
So instead of going for a quad core. Getting an octa core will be a fururistic approach. I am still hoping international variant of s4 to get this new soc. Or else definitely go fo a note3.

Need Evita Community Help ( Leaving my fate in your hands )

Okay I know I've only been here with you Evita users for what 6 months and I have developed a few roms ( kickdroid series ) and made a few modpacks... And everyone seems to enjoy my work from what I see and I thank all of you for your time and support..... but it's time for me to move on to a device that will get kitkat with sense 5.5 or whatever sense version comes with it, I will still own this phone and develop for it just need a new device... But here is my issue, I have a few phones I've been wanting but I'm not sure which one to choose because there are features that attract me to wanting them all but I can on choose one.... so I need your guys help on choosing
1. HTC Droid DNA - 5" 1080p display with global capabilities ( Gsm/Cdma ), 8mp rear camera, 2mp front facing camera, with 2gigs of ram.
Advantages - and just recieved sense 5 4.2.2 and according too Football it will reciece kitkat too...
Disadvantages - Only issue is the charge flap falls off and when it comes to Verizon they have very secured bootloaders
2. HTC One ( gsm version ) - 4.7" 1080p display, 2gigs of ram, 4UP camera, zoe, BoomSound, and snapdragon 600 processor 4 cores...
Advantages - is receiving kitkat of course......
Disadvantages - but I've seen drop test with this phone and the metal around the speakers fall of and I usually drop my phone off surfaces on occasion and don't want to ruin a expensive piece of equipment..
3. HTC One Mini - 4.3" 720p display. 1gb L3 ram, dual core, BoomSound, zoe, 4UP Camera, Snapdragon 400 processor
Advantages - First of all I have used this phone and love the feel of it in my hands, and according to football it will recieve kitkat......
Disadvantages - But I'm not a person who likes to go from a bigger screen to a smaller screen. And not only that it feels like it's just a slightly update HTC ONE XL. And same issues as I would have with the HTC ONE
4. HTC Desire 600 by VM - have played with the phone and kinda like it but seems as specs have degraded with HTC new sense 5 devices, even know it contains all the features found on the HTC ONE..
Advantages - Cheaper to buy, Has all features on the HTC One Minus Camera And processor and ram
Disadvantages - VM ( sprint network ), low development
5. HTC One Max .... Just put it this way it's a beast with a 5.9 1080p display, Amazing Battery ,
Advantages - huge phone and the bigger the better for me , will recieve latest OTAs , amAzing battery.
Disadvantages - no major change from the HTC One except for size and battery.
Please help me everyone. Will be appreciated.

Or sometimes you pour so much into making the right decision, assuming your getting the best, and the day after you buy it something new is announced! Just keep an eye on press releases from HTC.
Sent from my One X using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
The Mini and the Max are oddball mid-year releases, that are almost certain to be relegated to obscurity, low sales, and poor community support. Like the One X+, they seem like devices just meant to fill the gap in the schedule until the release of the next "real" phone (M8).
The One is a great phone. But we are closer to the release of the M8 than the previous generation. So I agree with the above votes to wait for the next wave. Even more so with the DNA.
I'd go with an HTC one developer edition. I mean you can wait for the m8 but as far as I have seen it is a small upgrade to the HTC one. When considering, I would look into camera. The one xl witch I own has a great camera. The one witch I also own has a downgraded camera. Yea it has zoe but you can get that on the one xl with no trouble. I don't do a lot with cdma so I don't know about how development is for verizon or sprint.

I don't do a lot with cdma so I don't know about how development is for verizon or sprint.

The HTC One doesn't have a downgraded camera. Just because it has a lower count of megapixels doesn't mean it's worse. It uses different technology that doesn't require a huge amount of pixels to create a good image.
