Hi! I'm trying to store my personal pictures/videos/documents online. I don't really care for features like syncing, as long as the storage is reliable and accommodates large files (my videos which are sometimes over 1-2 GB per file).
I didn't want any paid option so I have explored some Chinese options that offer 10 TB, but they were unusable because of the connection was not reliable (I tried Baidu, but can't get past the authorization requiring Chinese cellphone. I also tried Tencent, but I the upload speed was abysmal and often would get disconnected making it impossible to upload my photos).
So I would be willing to pay for a good option that can supply at least 1 TB (preferably a little more) of online storage. Please share your expertise!

I have considered getting one of those online services ie like RapidShare etc and has considered signing up for one, but which one is "ultimately" best?. I know claiming which one is best might be a bit sketchy.
But I would prefer a place where I can basically decide to make folders either accessible to all so they are public so that people can access the folders through a webinderface and download from it. Or that people need to put in a password/key to get aceces. Or ultimately that I am the only one who can access them.
As well as allowing "some" people to upload stuff to the public folder etc.
But can any of these online services handle that?
O I think it can "handle it"...

I believe Box.net covers most of your specs....
Personal account is free and stores up to 50g.
Dropbox does pretty much everything you're looking for. Other people can upload to a folder, but you have to share it with them. A shared folder takes away from their amount of storage as if it were their own.
If you exceed 10 gigs of external traffic in a single day, Dropbox suspends the specific file(s)/folder responsible for the excessive traffic for a few days... at least for the first offense, not sure about after. I learned this the hard way.
Dropbox also only gives you a couple of gigs of storage. It's by far the nicest file-sharing client, but very limiting. I use Dropbox to share small files - recoveries, individual images, tutorials, etc. For most of my personal storage and larger files that I need to share, I use crappy file sharing sites like Megaupload etc.
The great thing about Dropbox is that you don't have to link people to some spammy site where you have to wait however long for slow downloads. Click the link and you're prompted to download.
However, if you plan on sharing large files or need a ton of storage, I'd go with something else unless you're willing to pay.

Hi there,
We are in a new era of Cloud Internet technology... But the question comes could we utilize the full cloud service thoroughly?
-I don't think so!
For example, Google Drive provides us 15GB of free cloud space, but to make use of that 15GB we end up transacting of the Data usage around 50GB+
How?
Uploading contents on Google Drive = 15GB +
Browsing/Surfing 5GB extra, so 20GB.
Downloading the same contents multiple times on multiple devices = More 30GB of internet data usage!
So we are virtually requiring round about 50GB of internet data pack additionally which is kinda costly in India yet!
It would have come down to half if we could have saved the data directly on Google Drive or any other relevant Cloud Media like Drop box, Sky Drive etc without having it to get downloaded onto the PC/Smart phone/Tablet!
Currently the respected UC Browser only seems to be providing the said feature flawlessly without any limitation in file size or extension but on UC's own Cloud a storage of 2GB Fixed & 4GB Temporary!
Other browsers like: Maxthon, Puffin etc might do the same job but kind of limitations are there!
A dedicated website ctrlq.org/save/ does the job for various Cloud media but can't be compared with UC Browser in any/every aspect.
Months/Year ago Google launched Save to GDrive Button which gives the Web Admin only to implicate the feature where Users don't have choice to do so!
gutenberg org did implicate this feature enabling users to send their desired Epub file to GDrive (and Dropbox as well) directly so that they can import into Google Play Books or download afterwards.
It's worth mentioning that not every website would be willing to implement the GDrive button for visitors to save direct to cloud!
Hence we are left with only an option of opting the UC Browser.
My request to all the readers over here, is there any alternatives for this? Is it not really possible to create such application or plugin which will pop up with option of choosing download destination (Storage or Cloud) when we tap on download button!
May/may not be possible yet till today but sure enough in future we will be able to do so what UC had already done long way before.
Any opinion/suggestion or users point of view is highly appreciated!
Sad
It's very haert broken fact that no one ever bothered to answer the query! Seems the feature was asked about is kinda crime!
Shame on all of u guys...
Hello,
I'm attempting to make an inventory application. Basically, our company has several devices/equipment that we checkout to other people and our current paper system isn't working out. The devices will each have an NFC tag put on that uniquely identifies it, and the idea is that the Android application on our smartphones (provided by the company) will simply scan it to check in/out the device. It will record the date time, who checked it out, and other information, and we want more than one person to be able to check in/out items at a time.
My problem is figuring out a way to store this data. Our company already pays for a OneDrive for Business account and our initial idea was to simply store the data in an Excel spreadsheet and share it with the people who checkin/checkout the devices (only two people at the moment), then the app would download the spreadsheet, record the new data, and upload it again to OneDrive. Reading and writing the data is easy, but actually pulling the file from OneDrive is where we hit a road bump and now we need another plan.
Are there any free alternatives for data storage of this kind where I would be able to access it through the Android application and update it? We also thought of using Heroku, but through researching I found that directly connecting to the PostgreSQL database they provide within the application is not possible. Of course we want to keep this data secure and only accessible to the people actually checking in/out devices, but we do not need a huge amount of space to store this data. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Heroku is a good option. You'll have to make an app to run API's that will talk to your app.
So a couple years ago I got my first android phone, and it included 25gb of dropbox free for 2 years. I didn't care much for cloud storage back then because it still didn't work that well. The dropbox app back then was pretty much garbage, all it did was give you a slightly cleaner interface for the website version (which also just is not very useful for my purposes).
All I want to do is sync/mirror my music library, so when I download a song on my pc, it eventually shows up on my phone to be played. Maybe that was harder to do a couple years ago, but today that seems like a pretty simple thing with how much free/cheap cloud storage there is and how fast our devices are.
Yet I just spent the last day messing with drop box (while my 2 free years ran out Galaxy S5 which luckily gave me another 2 years of dropbox, this time at 50gb), and also tried the other stuff my new phone came with, and seemingly none of them actually can sync anything. They talk all about that, yet the mobile apps are still terrible. Dropbox, box and even tried samsung link. None of them care to sync anything onto your phone, they just offer convenient/single file only access.
I found dropbox folder downloader, so I could at least get my initial library in with that.. Of course even that didn't work at first - since the S5 comes with little storage - my music library was 11gb - and the S5 only has about 9gb free with all the bloat samsung loads it up with. (9gb free for a $900 phone, thanks samsung) . Anyways i had a 32gb sd card laying around i got for free years ago, so I should be good to go. Nope... 4.4 doesn't allow you to write to your sd card in any useful fashion. Anyways I got that fixed, and its currently downloading my library.
My question is:
How can I make this easier. I mean next time I want to do that again, it takes several hours.. (it will be faster next time since it would just have to check each file rather then download them all, but still likely slow).
All i want is a simple cloud storage that does what people generally think it does - fully sync my stuff between my devices. Is there any service (with both pc and mobile apps) out there that does this?
Preferably a way I can get dropbox to do it, but I'll pay for a different service/app if theres a better way.

Well I find that Google drive is pretty good for syncing to different devices. I use it for certain files so maybe you could try that to see if it works for you.

Yea I've used drive lots too. It doesn't sync anything to android.
Google drive is pretty much exactly like dropbox in functionality.. It will only sync to desktop, the mobile app doesn't do it.
The only automatic function it has, is auto image backup to drive, and the drive app itself doesn't do that, the google+ app does. And it works quite well for it what it is. But it only does that - backup images. And one way only (it doesn't really sync, and while there does seem to be a desktop app, it's also just called backup, not sync). Plus even though the pics used up your drive space, they were not accessible through google drive, just google+. Though they JUST fixed that, like the last day or so it seems to have that functionality now, tho it still only has a few pics from my new phone, my ones from my old phone say "your older pictures will show here soon".
So to go the other way (pc to phone) i'll have to wait on that, and link my pc pics folder to that one folder (if it allows it).
So yea its nice for photos, but I see no way to do any of that for music. There was an article on the frontpage for some info about how to do phone to google drive for music, but it wasn't "syncing" - wasn't automatic, and again, only one way.
I know drive and dropbox have decent api's, so there is probably some more complex way to set them up to sync, just not sure how yet. Plus there are some specific music services out there, but I don't know even if any of those sync to mobile.

Yah that's what I'm guessing to. All other cloud services are pretty much the same in terms of what they offer but I guess none sync to android very well. If you want to try another syncing app you may want to look at bittorent sync which may be what your looking for.
I think you can use an app for that. Try foldersync https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dk.tacit.android.foldersync.lite
Good evening
Best wishes to you all
Sorry for my Bad english but I will try to do my best to explain the incredible bug encountered and warn everyone about my problem hoping it will avoid you the same disaster
I hope you can help me even if I do not believe it anymore...
Since I was caught by the time I carried out the daily transfer (by car, in the night, eating ....) of my photos / videos between my old phone (galaxy note 3) and my new Huawei mate 9 and this in several stages over several days via bluetooth.
Since everything worked perfectly because I checked day after day that I had the same number of files, I opened the videos transferred to the mate 9 and everything was there.
But one day I open the files transferred on the mate 9 and there everything disappeared except the directory tree: I mean that the folder transfered are there with their original names but all the content have been deleted and the folders transfered are well there but are all empty.
Of course like an idiot i have deleted the original content from my note 3 as I checked a successful transfer: result I have so far lost a major number of pro and family photos and video due to some sort of bug Of the mate 9.
I tried all the apps of recovery possible on the Google store or on Windows (easus, dr fone ....) but nothing does they do not find anything (and I'm in development mode with debug USB activated after that i have pressed 9 times on the phone model)
I know that I proceeded as an adventurer without saving before doing this damned transfer.
But do you think that there is a hope that I can manage to find by some means those files that have disappeared miraculously but their folders are still there but empty.
Thank you for your suggestions
Small precision in case: I made these transfers on the session of my second user account of my mate 9 and not the master account originally created during the first start of the phone.
I noticed that these additional user accounts are attractive at first but in fact there are too many limitations: only the master account can send MMS for example in no case the additional accounts even with all the permissions granted, there are Other limitations too ... I contacted Huawei who confirmed these limitations for security reasons according to them.
Similarly one can delete at any time the additional user accounts but if you want to delete the main account it is absolutely necessary to reset the phone and it is impossible to reverse one of the secondary accounts into master account, you will have to reset and recreate as desired.
The more absurd for me is the inability to transfer files present on the internal memory between sessions of user accounts, we can only access the files of our current session even when we are into in the session of the master account we can't access the files of one of our others account.
You dont have your stuff backing up to one of the many available clouds?
amazon, google, dropbox, etc.
I would have mentioned easus but looks like you tried. I feel bad for you but take it as a learning lesson, backup important stuff. Get you a hdd, cloud backup and computer backup minimum. Never solely rely on a cell phone.
Huawei is big on security. Sometimes they get it right but if your 2nd user account was someone you didnt want to access your information you would appreciate the added security. I have never used guest accounts or anything but I remember my 2 year old was playing with my phone as she always do, and few minutes later she was in twrp attempting to delete everything. This was a 128gb nexus 6p filled to the rim with important information.
any twrp backups from previous phones?
Don't call it a bug because It isn't.
And also there are easier and much faster ways to transfer files out there.

Hello... about my problem...
I have contacted Huawei and I was surprised that they seemed almost to know the problem : they told me "you had a file corruption" at our stage we can not do anything you need to contact [email protected] with the following ticket number that we will create together ".
I wrote 3 days ago ... Still no answers ...
We will see ... But given the bad comments found on the net about the Huawei support I have no illusions ...
Last episode and season finale of my bad experience
I had the Huawei support by phone finally... They admit that there must be a file corruption "bug" on the mate 9 and they propose me to send the phone to a technician to try to do something without any guarantee to succeed and of course without lending of a phone replacement during this period.
If I can go back I will never buy this phone 1stly for the bug encountered but seeing the support recognising that it can be a real bug from the phone and not lending a phone... For a 700€ phone the support and results are very bad in the end.
Excepted this bug the mate 9 has many limitations and bad cons that I will explain in a video in a few days to describe why if I could I won't buy the mate 9 again
have you checked if the files are still taking a space inside the storage? or it is all free?
there is a lot of viruses out there that could have renamed or hide your original folders

Hi Michel
It is exactly what I think and after discussing about this the Huawei technical phone operator told me that it can be the files corrupted by the bug : yes I am sure that the actual storage is higher than it must be, at least 8-10 Go more...And that's why they propose me to send it to their technical support but without any guarantee to succeed and with no phone to lend during this period.
I hope that soon there will be a root 100% secure of this phone to do a full recovery deeper as possible but for the moment I don't know how to access this extra storage used that I can found exploring the phone in all the account users sessions or with hi suite or others recovery software (Dr fone, easus...) and I have enabled the option show hidden files and folders into ES explorer but no results
Hope you learned a valuable lesson.
Backup your data. Anything can happen. Bug. Stolen. Lost. Water damage.
I do have sympathy but very little.
