Hi, would anyone like some free online storage from Dropbox?
Anyone wanting to sign up please simply follow my referral link and we both get an extra 256MB of storage on top of the standard 2GB as long as you register and install the desktop app (all free).
This service is actually spectacularly useful, making your files accessible to you via the website where ever you go, or through the PC app and of course even more convenient with the Android and iPhone apps.
You can also invite people to share folders with you giving both/all of you access to the same storage location for convenient file sharing.
PS - I don't intend to share my or your storage and there is nothing suspicious here, no pyramid scheme or profit etc. just a genuinely useful tool and me simply using the referrals to get us both the extra space

I have considered getting one of those online services ie like RapidShare etc and has considered signing up for one, but which one is "ultimately" best?. I know claiming which one is best might be a bit sketchy.
But I would prefer a place where I can basically decide to make folders either accessible to all so they are public so that people can access the folders through a webinderface and download from it. Or that people need to put in a password/key to get aceces. Or ultimately that I am the only one who can access them.
As well as allowing "some" people to upload stuff to the public folder etc.
But can any of these online services handle that?

I believe Box.net covers most of your specs....
Personal account is free and stores up to 50g.
Dropbox does pretty much everything you're looking for. Other people can upload to a folder, but you have to share it with them. A shared folder takes away from their amount of storage as if it were their own.
If you exceed 10 gigs of external traffic in a single day, Dropbox suspends the specific file(s)/folder responsible for the excessive traffic for a few days... at least for the first offense, not sure about after. I learned this the hard way.
Dropbox also only gives you a couple of gigs of storage. It's by far the nicest file-sharing client, but very limiting. I use Dropbox to share small files - recoveries, individual images, tutorials, etc. For most of my personal storage and larger files that I need to share, I use crappy file sharing sites like Megaupload etc.
The great thing about Dropbox is that you don't have to link people to some spammy site where you have to wait however long for slow downloads. Click the link and you're prompted to download.
However, if you plan on sharing large files or need a ton of storage, I'd go with something else unless you're willing to pay.

The photo import feature is not available on Mac 10.4 and Linux.
For Android devices, it's best to use "Connect as Disk Drive". HTC Sync will not work.
To import from iPhone, make sure to unlock your phone and enter your passcode before importing, otherwise it will claim to find no photos.
If importing from your iPhone on Mac gives an import error, try hard resetting it--hold down the power and the home button for 5 seconds. This will reboot the phone; it shouldn't change your settings or delete data.
On Windows, this feature relies on Autoplay. Please enable Autoplay to use this feature if you have disabled it.
On XP and Vista, it relies on the Windows Image Acquisition Service. If this service is not started, please start the service and reinstall Dropbox to use this feature. On WIndows Server, you may have to install the Desktop Experience feature.
On Windows 7, newer devices that rely on Device Stage (in the Control Panel) will not show Dropbox as an import option until you select "Change Program" for the default.
The Galaxy Nexus takes a lot of time to connect on OS X because it likes to pretend that every image on the device is a photograph. We now estimate how long it's going to take and show you that in the progress bar but it's usually in the order of minutes. We're working to see if this can be improved.
As usual, we strongly recommend making a backup of your Dropbox before upgrading to this build as we'll need a few weeks to be certain of its stability. We will rapidly release new builds as necessary to snipe the most common issues as they arise."

Sounds like a copycat (very late though) of Sugarsync's promotion.

OK, maybe this is better, I have to agree
Is that forever, though? The free 16GB I have from SugarSync is for 'life' as I understand it. If you upload 5GB once, does that give you 5GB forever, or if you delete files does it get removed from the availability?
As far as I know, the only temporary promos dropbox has are the ones with HTC 3GB/48GB respectively, for 12 months.
These should be yours for life*.

I believe that you have that mixed up with "box" which is not the same as "dropbox".

The beta App for Android caused my Note to crash and reboot twice in under 20 mins. Promptly uninstalled. The good news however is I got 500mb extra. Now to try the 5gb hack.

I believe that you have mixed deal that Box has with LG,HP and Apple, which is not the same as the deal that Dropbox has with HTC.
Anyways! These credits are here to stay so it's OK to delete uploads. Beside 7GB + with Dropbox is way more valuable than 50GB with Box with their 100mb limit one by one uploads and borderline impossible one by one downloads.

Well you should continue and get all you can. Of top of my head, use it for what they are giving these 5GB for. AUTO UPLOAD and simultaneous cloud as well as pc backup of your pics and videos without compromising pics resolution, videos being limited only by the free space on dropbox. Yes I'm looking at you google+ /picasa and box.net. Not bad for syncing Titanium backup with it as well.

btt: I got a SanDisc 16GB class 2 three years ago. After 2 years of use it stopped working and i lost my data on it. Don't know if it the false of my card or my desire HD. At least the HTC Support sent me a new 8 Gig Card.
Thought the most free space you could have at this point was like 12GB, guess I'm wrong

attention: windows client autoplay feature doesn't work on win8 so far...
so no +4,5GB there, if you have win8 you have to use the android client (or a vm with any of the supported os's)

I didn't want any paid option so I have explored some Chinese options that offer 10 TB, but they were unusable because of the connection was not reliable (I tried Baidu, but can't get past the authorization requiring Chinese cellphone. I also tried Tencent, but I the upload speed was abysmal and often would get disconnected making it impossible to upload my photos).
So I would be willing to pay for a good option that can supply at least 1 TB (preferably a little more) of online storage. Please share your expertise!
