Emergency Volume App - Galaxy Note5 Themes and Apps

So I had a situation the other day when my girlfriend needed me in the middle of the night and my phone was on silent.....forgot to take it off of that from a meeting earlier that evening. Wasn't good that I couldn't help her till i randomly woke up to a lot of missed calls.
Made a fast simple app to help her get in touch if my phone isn't turned up. It allows her to text me a specific word, phrase, etc....and when i receive that specific body of text my volumes on my phone turn to max. That way when she needs me she can make my phone ring if i forget again :S
Called Emergency Volume I'm sure others might find a use for it so i put it in the play store for $1.42 (30% of $1.42-30% since Google takes 30%) at https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.venturealpha.emergencyvolume refund within 14 min per Google if it doesn't work.
Should work on any android 4.4 and up maybe even 4.3.
*IT IS CASE SENSITIVE* so what you set the body to be is exactly what has to be typed for now.
I will also make it so you can say from any contact or a specific contact(s) it will take some time to figure out but the base is working and tested on all NEW samsung devices.

Says $1.29

Edited this post twice so far. Don't know why it isn't staying was changed from the start . I moved it to that whe I put it there because Google takes 30% so it comes out to 99 and would be a direct reflection of the number of downloads.
Should actually be $1.42 for the calculation.

Btw, can I make the volume up to lock the screen and unlock the screen to? Thanks

Don't think it will let me toggle that I can see if it will. Are you using a pin or password or is it just a swipe to unlock

I using fingerprint to unlock my phone. So no way to wake up the screen with volume button?

It should still turn the volume up when the screen is locked. I have a fingerprint on my Note 5. Let me test it.
Update: yes just had my screen off and kicked with a fingerprint. Girlfriend texted me the words "Volume up" because I set it for that command. And it beeped and upped all volumes. And it had to of worked because she used it to wake me up at 8am a week ago lol...

Emergency Calls

Okay I've been viewing and using the forums for a while, but never had a reason to join until now. I've had my HTC one X for over a month and in that time frame I've managed to accidentally call 911 over 8 times (all inside my jean pocket, even 3 times in 1 day). Is there any mod to disable emergency call or remove the emergency contact of 911 from the list when its locked and the button is pushed inside my pocket? I've searched everywhere and can't find a fix. I've even edited my build.prop to read "ro.ril.oem.ecclist=123" instead of "=911". I know there has to be a way to fix this issue but I haven't been able to find it.
I was going to post in the development section but because I just joined I'm unable to post in that thread.
FYI: I"m rooted, unlocked bootloader, CWM, and running CleanRom 3.0.
Please somebody!
Anyone? I really need help on this one, I'm afraid of getting into some serious trouble if I can't fix this issue. Any ideas are greatly appreciated.
Ohh I get it, you use a security lock.
Do not use a security lock?
With the standard lock screen(security lock set to none) there is no emergency dial button.
Other thought though is to buy a flip cover so when the phone is in your pocket the entire screen will be blocked by the cover?
You can buy them online for just a few dollars.
How do you do this? Even with the emergency dial button, it asks you to input the number.

Those are both good suggestions, but I'm kind of a security nut, and I'd hate to cover up this gorgeous phone. I took my case back because I hated covering it up, but maybe I can find something nice on Amazon. Thank you for the reply.

There's my issue, it brings you to a dialpad but it also has 911 as an emergency contact at the top of the screen. Even if my pocket dials an insane string of numbers, if it ever touches that top contact or I touch it as I'm pulling it out because it's vibrating and I'm at work, it automatically dials 911. I just thought there was a way to remove that contact.
Just to be complete, also consider a pouch. That way you can just slide it in and out as required. Better suited to car mounts and keeping the phone slim
You have to compromise somewhere...Either keep dialing 911 and eventually get your number blacklisted by them or get in trouble OR stop using the security lock screen. Simple as that, seeing that you don't want to cover the screen with anything.

You've overlooked option #3: Learn how to develop for android, and make my own mod to solve my issue. Anything is possible and I think it's my only option left, If anyone knows any of the specific files, folders, or APK's that may be in question please let me know. Other than that I'm off on a wild goose chase that I hope I'm able win. Wish me luck!

With.mine using a pin.lock, you have to.unlock the normal screen, then the emergency dial pops up. Which way do you have you phone in your pocket, like screen in or out?

Screen towards my thigh, maybe my jeans are too tight. lol
Well my update for the night (if anyone is interested) is I browsed through the .apk's in cleanrom 3.0 and unzipped 5 of them that had relevant names: DialerLauncher, HTCDialer+, Idlescreenbase, Phone, and Phonesky. Opened up the .dex files in those with notepad just to take a peek at what's readable. found a lot of interesting things in Phone and Dialers. Just went into adb and dexdumped those to read through them all without all the formatting issues in notepad. I'm so new to all this that I have no idea if I'm on the right path or not, but it seems like solid progress to me. Gotta hit the hay though it's 2am, I'll try more tomorrow. Take care everyone and feel free to leave me any suggestions (or encouragement at this point)!
Warning!
I don't recommend dexdumping phone or phonesky! I sure hope my answer isn't in there it's MASSSIVE! Also thank you Corythug for the encouragement lol

Those two.post should help one is specific to HTC lockscreen with a for.sure fix.

Well there's your problem! Try putting the phone in your pocket screen out. The heat from your thigh is what is dialing the numbers.

I considered this but because other screens have cracked and died from sharp table edges with the screen facing out I prefer not to store my phones screen out.

Serious Android Lock Screen Vulnerability

Not sure if this is well known or not but if you lose your android phone and think that your 4 digit lock screen password is going to cut it, you may be wrong. I realize that most people here know multiple ways to get access to a device but I haven't seen this way before and thought it was unique.
A 4 digit password can be brute force hacked in 16.5 hours, using the USB rubber duckie developed by the guys at Hak5.
They have a detailed video posted over at: http://hak5.org/episodes/hak5-1217
It works because android doesn't implement longer wait times between unsuccessful pin entries. Every 5 tried it locks you out for 30 seconds. That's it! That's all! Every 5 times, 30 seconds over and over again! It never gets longer! Thus why it takes 16.5 hours to go from 0000 to 9999 with one second between attempts, and 30 seconds between every 5 attempts.
Hopefully this gets fixed in the next version of android. For comparison, BlackBerry has a 10 password rule and the phone gets wiped and Apple makes successive longer wait times and will ultimately lock itself and need to be plugged into the original syncing computer (I believe, not really a big Apple fan, so I don't know for sure)
Thanks for this information
The difference in the time it takes to break a 5 digit pin or a 10 digit pin is cRaZy
Sure, the wait times should be "smarter" - but if you're keeping TRULY sensitive information on your phone, just use a real password to unlock it, not a PIN.
Or, perhaps a solution in the spirit of Android would be to let people decide for themselves how they want it implemented. Some people wouldn't care and wouldn't want their data to be wiped after ten wrong tries - I mean, wow - that would suck if someone knew that and wanted to be malicious and wipe your phone for the lulz or whatever. Or if you wanted to let a kid play with it - which I've read a lot of people do (beats me, but hey). Other people who need tighter security could choose that.
Any tips on how to bypass or brute force the android pattern lock?
After a certain number of tries, Android will not allow you to unlock via PIN, and force you to enter a Google account registered on the phone.
Hacker can't get past that unless they know whose Google account is on the phone, and then they have to hack a Google account

I have never thought the android lock screen was any good if im honest. if you have a dirtyish screen you can actually see the pattern you draw.

Depends. A 4 digit PIN is 10*10*10*10=10000
A pattern can be from 9*8*7*6 to 9! possibilities

Hi!
I just think PIN is unuseful. I was cheated by one of my friend because he discovered the PIN of my phone. I give my phone to nobody no more. Now I have a phone without protection: it is more comfortable!
Put any password /pin, u can just boot into recovery, do a factory reset and it's all gone! Right? (in case of theft I'm talking about)
Thanks for the heads up, my mother in lay asked this about her new Note II today.

As if someone who actually goes low enough to steal know what recovery is.
What I'm trying to say here us that the average person doesn't know what recovery is.

Yeah, but all but the dumbest theives have the wits to Google search If they have an issue that's in the way of turning a profit (like a lock screen). It's occupational information even if it's not known to "normal" people. You know, like lock picking, hot wiring, et cetera. Not all theives are rock-stupid - and maybe some are, and but they're stealing phones they can't sell at low costs/for meth to someone who in fact does know how to make these devices much more profitable.

If someone steals my phone he can just flash a new rom on it.
No need to brute force the password/pin unless he's after my personal info/my messages.

Google now with screen off

OK,so I believe I have everything setup right. Even have trusted voice. Hey galaxy works with screen off but OK google does not. It just does nothing unless screen is on. On another note, my wife's note 4 works fine but says it can't unlock the screen for texts and such. Anyway to fix these two issues?
You can't use OK Google with the screen off unless the device is plugged in

That sucks huh. Wonder why the note 4 was capable of it. I guess google just plans to remove that feature. Makes me miss the Motorola assist always listening
S voice works with the screen off. It's not quite as good as moto voice but it works great for me

Password Knock Bug

So, I found this bug with the Knock lockscreen. Mine is set to tapping the screen three times in the bottom right corner, but if I do that while the screen is off, it will instantly unlock the phone. I'm not sure if I'm the only one with this bug or not, but it's not really a big deal to me. I just thought I'd let others know.
It's not a bug... It's designed that way so that you can unlock it without having to turn on the screen first. Owners manual.
Devildog is correct, that's a feature, not a bug. Been that way since at least G3, if not G2.

Not much because i bought this phone only 3 months ago. But even i bought it a year ago, there are no reason to active a home screen for long time we can play game, read book, surf web , but no one just let home screen stay active to look at it in long time. That why this is realyy weird to me )
I just wonder will Samsung replace the screen for me under warranty ?

since i bought the phone and i'm really afraid of this, i agree with you have no way to open the homescreen all the time and even though other icons should burn in :/
i don't know about the warranty but i hope they replace for you
Keeping your screen at full brightness with longer screen time out is going to do this. Never keep a static image on any non LED screen for a long period of time.

Because they never send a new phones... also most likely the screen they replaced was not new one either and thus it was used for quite a long time, maybe in a bad ways that set it close to burn out(yep, it's called burn out = pixels fade). It's not fair to have warranty only to be send/replaced with used parts and phones... but yes, if you read the warranty - it's legal.
Have a replacement on the way, told Att I just wasn't happy with the display. So hopefully the replacement will be better.
