So, I haven't seen this topic talked about yet, apart from manufacturer claims of the usual hundreds of hours of standby.
Having now had the TC for almost a week, I'm not at all happy with the battery life, and hoping it's either a faulty battery or something I'm not doing right.
Today, I've made a 2 or 3 short phone calls and downloaded a few emails, and it's down to 30% at 5pm! Most other days have been the same.
I do have bluetooth and HSDPA on, but not Wi-Fi. Surely, this won't be another case of, "buy this great phone with all the fast connections, but stick to 2G GSM because of the battery life".
Any help gratefully received, as I love the TC apart from this problem.
Data connections come from the "TalkTime" budget, not the "Standby" budget, so if you leave your HDSPA connection connected, or your Bluetooth on, it will drain the battery in about 7 hours.
My tests seem to indicate that HTC's estimates are reasonable within about 85%, if you understand what they're saying. If you leave your phone switched off, doing absolutely nothing in the background ("Standby"), then I've got about 200 hours out if it. But as soon as you start using the phone (which includes switching it on - the increased processor usage and backlight take more power than Standby) the overall battery budget is reduced.
An example - if you spend 1 hour online, you've used 1/7th of your TalkTime budget, but you've also used 1/7th of your Standby budget - the hour of talktime is equivalent to about 30 hours of standby...
It's marketing speak, sadly, but given USB recharging, etc., as long as the phone makes it to a laptop or socket each evening, I'm pretty happy with the battery life on my Touch Cruise - just remember to disconnect data connections when you're not using them, don't check for new mail every 5 minutes and only use IMAP IDLE when you really need it...
I too was first disappointed but I had almost everything that uses data switched on or on automatic like weather and emails.
So I set everything to manual and batt is good with some calls. Before when I tapped on the top bar there was always something connecting or showing connected for a x number of mins. But now it shows 'No data session active' and batt is holding up nicely for all my calls + what I need like GPS etc.
I do put TC on heavy use and I am quite satisfied with the fact that TC makes it through the day.. Most of the PDAs and phones I have used forced me to carry secondary battery with me..
I can only go on my heavy day to day business use with push mail 24h, 20+ calls, few hours of TomTom and bit of forum reading!! But it´s a very big improvement on my Kaiser which would be empty by 7pm. Whereas the Polaris is still around 50-45%
Can anyone tell me how much battery life can one expect for mp3 playback?

Something's either wrong with my hardware, battery, or config.
Are you in a 3G HSPDA area? I am, and wondering whether or not that's killing the battery.
If it's the battery, I doubt I'll get an exchange, seeing as most places are sold out of TC's still.
Do you use Windows Live? I don't have MSN Messenger running, but I think it syncs all folders on my hotmail every 2 hours.
I don't use Windows Live or the messenger. I'm now using HTC Mail which gives you a free 3 months trial of their Microsoft Exchange Server account. It works really well and seems to use less battery than the Windows Live, which I had previously used.... and most of the time I use the basic "G" (GPRS) connection although when surfing the net I change the connection to 3G.

Im having a similar problem.
So far, mainly used mine for browsing through wi-fi but the battery drains so quickly. It only lasts a day and a half.
Same usage on my old orbit would last close to a week.
ps - Ive swicthed off all other comm functions
I'd be delighted with a full day! It's such a pain to have to keep plugging it in!
I've now switched off HSPDA, and if that doesn't work, I'll have to switch off 3G. Kind of defeats the object of having a 3G device.

3G/HSPDA uses a lot more power than regular GSM. I keep my phone locked to GSM and only enable 3G when I want to go online, but then I primarily use my phone as a PDA so I don't access the network that often, even for voice.
I think there's a utility floating around these boards called something like BandSwitcher that does something to make it easier to toggle between 3G and GSM. As you can probably tell from my vague description (and I'm not even sure that I got the name right), I haven't got round to investigating this fully myself yet.
By the way, there is another thread here about battery life, started by me (what is it with us Brits and our obsession with battery life?), and called "Dissapointing battery life test" (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=356910&highlight=Julian+battery+life). The thread includes a link to a very useful tool written by Muyz and available here (http://www.vandenmuyzenberg.nl/PowerGuard/) that allows you to look at current drain on the device and I posted some data in that thread from my device so you could run the same tests and see if your current draw is comparable to mine. If you do this then please do post your data.

I'm afraid that's a very unhelpful "it depends". It really depends on (a) exactly how you've encoded your MP3 files (bit rate and CBR vs VBR) plus what player you are using to play them.
Having said the above though, I can give you two data points:
1) The Touch Cruise manual claims "Up to 8 hours (WMV). Up to 12 hours (WMA)." (This is on page 249 of the English manual under the power/battery specification.)
2) From measuring current consumption on my device while playing 64kbs AAC HE files I estimate that I'll get somewhere between 9 and 10 hours before I go from 100% charge down to the 10% warning level.
AAC HE is very CPU-intensive to decode. I'm not sure how WMA compares to MP3 regarding CPU intensity but I would expect your figures to be more comparable with the WMA figure quoted by HTC and, in light of my AAC HE real life experience, the HTC figure actually seems quite realistic (although nowhere near good enough in my opinion).

30 or so text messages
Agile Messanger on all the time conected to AIM and Yahoo. About 2 to 3 comversations each day.
Around 10 to 15 minuets of web surfing to read the news and what not
Bluetooth always on but only used in my car (BMW iDrive) about 1.5 hous of driving
About 20 to 30 minuets of playing S Tris 2 (Yeah I know but I can't help it I love that game)
About 30 to 45 minuets of MP3 playing while at the gym
Ringer set to Vib then ring
Back on the charger by 11:30PM

That's fantastic, my battery MUST be faulty! Oh, and thanks very much for taking the time to write all that down!
I'll leave it another week or so playing with turning things on and off, and if I can't get a full day, I'll order another battery, and be hardcore about the 16 hour charge for the first three charges.
When it comes to my batteries I am a stickler when it comes to conditioning them. I always do a full discharge and recharge for at least 3 cycles. It may be inconvenient the first few times because you can run out of power in the middle of the day when you really can’t wait for a recharge, but in the long run its worth it. On the weekend when I use my TC the least I get 2 full days out of it.

Looks like it's paid off!
I've had my second day now where it's lasted a day! Last night it had 40% on it at 0100, and so far at 1700 it's still on 70%. The reason? I turned off HSDPA on Sat, and it really seems to have made the difference. The internet still runs very fast as well.

someone knows, if powering OFF the TC suspends the WIFI-connection
so that it will not discharge the battery?
On my elder HP, I let the WIFI on, switch off the device,
and I couldn't remark a greater change in the battery after one nighgt.
On TC, when switching OFF the unit with WIFI ON,
the battery is empty after one night.

how long do you get on a single charge? i would like to buy one of these devices and use Exchange push, but if it can't last the whole day, forget it. That was why i ebay'd my iPhone. i would like a device to last ALL day. can the Fuze do it?
that depends on what else you doing with the device, long phone calls etc, if all you were doing was push email, you should be fine
well, what about if i talk for about 20 - 30 minutes per day....
what if i watch a handful of youtube videos....
what if i browse the net with WiFi for 15 minutes....
i am just asking for someones actual battery stats.
More than likely, you will not make it through the whole day if your watching youtbue videos, talking on the phone and using WiFi. Add GPS to that mix and I promise you it will not last more than a few hours.
I flashed my TP to ROMeOS 1.40 with radio .28 and have absolutely no problem getting two days with normal usage. I have Exchange syncing as items arrive. If I added some wifi and video as you suggest, it might struggle to get two whole days without charge, but certainly no problem with one day's heavy usage at all. And "heavy usage" would include some TomTom - a big battery drain.

I've had mine a few weeks now. It has Exchange push mail on all day(syncing as items arrive), and I'll make a few phone calls. I get about 2-3 days out of it doing that from full charge to almost empty.
If I use TomTom it's massively reduced.
so i had it recharged fully overnight and went to work, did some surfing, texting, stayed on irc for quite a bit, bluetoothed some stuff, received a bluetooth file (it was a dead day at work and a lot of goofing off was happening)
when i got home that night it still had about 40%, and i played some more before bed it was 21% or so i think. def in the 20s. wasnt quite sleepy enough yet so i watched 45ish min of video and the warning never came on. it was 17%. so i watched part of a movie for maybe 30 min and it still stayed at 17.
anyways the gas tank on my car takes forever to use the first 1/4, the next 1/2 goes really fast, and the last 1/4 lasts forever too. maybe fuze does something like that too?
but i really thought it would kerplop at work but it ran pretty darn good
oh and i was using stock att rom without the bloat
mine could go more than 24 hours with the wifi on, but thats on standby.
well, i played with it a couple of time.
i just got it yesterday, and didn't play too much with it, instead i come here and read as much as i could
youre lucky then cause mine goes down wayyy faster than that. On a good day it will last 8 hours on moderate to heavy usage.
Mine can go for 24 hours with moderate use ( phone, IM, surf the net mulitiple times, youtube, Listen some music, some wifi without problem.)
Yeah, I've never really had any huge issues with the battery life of my HTC Touch Pro... plenty of problems with other stuff, but not the battery, thankfully!

Ok finally after a few days of using my phone it has finally leveled off. My phone has been off the charger since 6am and I am at about 70% charged. Couldn't ask for more out of a smart phone. This is right in line with my Nexus One so I am no longer disappointed.
There are a few tweaks I did make to get this working this way.
(1) Screen brightness set at about 20% - The TB's screen is way to bright to begin with and making this adjustment is something that is not very hard to get used to.
(2) Screen Time out at 30 seconds - Setting to low will get frustrating if you like reading the news on your phone or browsing the web, 30 seconds seems just right for me.
(3) WIFI when not in car (triggered on and off by loss of Blue Tooth Connection and Not In Dock) Using WiFi instead of relying on your data connection will help save some juice while in a WiFi enabled building since your phone will not be trying to constantly search and connect to a data connection.
(4) Blue tooth off until docked - Saves battery by not transmitting a BT signal constantly. I only use Bluetooth in the car so triggered by the dock seemed logical.
(5) Syncing Facebook every 8 hours, News every 12 hours and Stocks (Who really needs this)
(6) I love widgets on my home screens so these get updated as I found necessary to me. Im not a major facebooker that needs to be on the bleeding edge of everyones life so 8 hours is probably even too much but adequate. News doesnt really update very often and compared to a daily news paper 12 hours is more than ample. Stocks, need I say more seriously I am not an investor and could care less.
(7) Over clocking your phone is not necessary right now, 1 GHZ is definitely more than you need on this phone. I am scoring about 1700 on quadrant which is pretty good for a 1ghz phone. My phone has never lagged and has functioned as expected since birthed to my hand. Keep in mind Over clocking will increase the performance of your phone but will tear at your battery as well and may cause heating issues.
(8) Not using an animated wallpaper. Even on my nexus one this was a major contributer to poor battery and phone performance. Animated wallpapers are very often poorly programmed or simply over bloated. Not too mention on the severe end of the priority list of needs. All though cool.
I am not over clocking or installing a custom rom on my phone quite yet because honestly the roms are not stable enough as expected this close to birth, and really don't offer any additional functionality that I find very useful as of yet. I am using Tasker to accomplish a few automated switching routines to toggle WIFI and Bluetooth. I am also using Folder Organizer to keep my apps categorized in a humane manor. I am a widget-aholic and have not really found a downside to having too a lot of widgets running.
How much do you use your phone a day?
Not everyone is willing to cut out their social networking. A big part of smartphones now is always being connected. This includes social networking, sharing pictures, sharing locations... some people get into all of this and some do not.
Also, some people like weather updates, stock updates, news updates, etc. Everyone uses their device differently to fit their needs.
I think it is common sense that the more services you use which consume radio/data/processing time then the quicker you will drain your battery.
Thank you for sharing the setup that works for you and affords you such great battery life. I have been having great battery life too. I am currently not in a 4G LTE area, but the device on 3G has been great on battery. You would never know there are any "issues" if people did not post about them!
What is your uptime, display on time, and partial wake usage?
I didn't check that deep in to it, but I had it plugged in to some speakers at work for about 3.5 hours playing slacker radio from wifi so I could rock at work. I used the phone to call tech support for my wifes phone which took a while and other shorter calls through out the day. Right now my up time is about 65 hours, awake time is at 26 hours. Not sure where to get partial awake. My display on timer only says 1 min. But honestly today was not a big phone use day and it sat in the dock on the ride home so all those stats are irrelevant today. But still my battery it at 83%. A lot of people were complaining about there phones dying with no or little use half through the day. So hopefully this brings a little light to the end of the tunnel.

I've been getting great battery life as well, got 36 hours on my last charge. Have Perfect Storm 1.0, trip's 1.5ghz oc kernel (but don't actually run it that high). I have SetCPU set at 998/245 for normal, 245/245 for screen off and use smartass governor. I was also using my phone a moderate amount but had the 4g turned off as I'm in between 3g and 4g so it just keeps dropping and switching.
Glad to see someone is getting decent life.. I'm about to set a record for battery death.. phone has been on for 1 hour and 20 minutes and down to 65%.
On the bright side I am getting 20mbps down here at school.. SDSU..

Yah.. I am surfing pretty heavily though.. down to 58% now..
Guess ill have to sit in a different seat for the rest of the classes.. I see power outlets along the walls
It sucks though because on the Droid x, I could surf during the whole 3 hr class and walk out with 50% left.. guess this is the price you pay for this kinda power and speed lol

I have also found that in the first couple of days (2 or 3 days) after a reset... the phone does a BUNCH of funky things. First night after a reset...VZwireless said at 3AM i had 130MB of transfer... not possible - i was sleeping. it wasn't me. but...i did wake up with >30% of the battery gone. I think the background data off is a good place to start...but definitely wait after a couple of days.
I seem to be getting about 36 hours of up time on a charge. Mostly on wifi at home/work. I have 4G turned off as its not available here yet.

There will be a patch soon to help with the idle 4G battery drain. Lady on the phone told me its in the works. Either way I just got the extended battery today. I actually dont mind the extra size.
Hmm... whats the anecdotal battery life for an extended battery given these settings? I've gotten to the point of running my display at 5% when indoors ==;;;
Also, I've heard of people getting free or heavily discounted extended batteries.... Any tips for this?
I am using an app called fastbright which really helps with the display battery drain...I just use it o bright when i cant see if i am outside....post #10!!! yay!
I've used my phone a decent amount today and battery is still at 62%. Running Das bamf at 1.2 ghz and screen brightness at 100%

I feel the same way... if you are playing around on the tb while it is pluged in it will take a good 4-6 hours to charge to 100%
Can someone explain why we never get sot like the YouTubers? Even if we did the same usage we would always get less for example if they did a 1h youtube on the s22 ultra in their case it drops about 5 to 10 % i did about the same test and i got down by 20% sometimes more
Because the usage is subjective. There are dozens of factors that can affect how long the battery lasts.
Stop comparing 1:1 with other people, you will never get the same results even under the same usage.
Kudos to above post. I used to be a battery watcher. I am a firm believer if the device needs charge , just charge it. Enjoy the device and stop stressing about battery. The way one uses a device is completely different from another. Signal plays a big part..background apps also. So many things go into this..Wakelocks..alarms..blah blah you get the picture. I have seen post of 10 hr screen times. But what a lot do is put on a 2hr movie and let it play or one of those 1hr long videos on YouTube. So yeah it's easy to get that kind of Screen time if you are just letting it stay on a movie and not actually using the device. Or if you have so many things disabled why even bother to get a flagship device. Heck I don't know about you, but I don't have time to be on my phone for 10hrs at a time..lol. So just enjoy your device. Happy Friday everyone.
I can and do get around 8 hours SOT consistently or have even got 9 on the Snapdragon U.S. Unlocked but I use it for business so no games or movies on phone. Got all my Entertainment stuff on my Galaxy Tab S7+. My phone is not rooted and the only 2 things I did that really make a big difference is..... 1) Facebook is the only social media app I use. I access Facebook thru the Browser but have the Messenger app still installed for Facebook messages. This gives me at least an extra hour or more of battery life by not having Facebook app installed. The only other thing I did was change display resolution to FHD. Still using adaptive refresh. That's it. Not Rooting or any other special modifications.
Obviously gaming and social media apps eat up huge amounts of battery. Since I don't use those it's probably why my battery life is so good. Here on the home screen you can see what apps I use most. Everything I need is mostly here so you could say this is pretty much what runs on my phone daily.
