Hi all,
there seem to me many threads on JB update coming / not coming ; how to...
but nothing on feedbacks once updated.
PLEASE POST HERE YOUR FEEDBACKS ONLY ONCE YOU ARE RUNNING JB ON A700.
I will do it myself here as soon as I have updated. Meanwhile, lets hear the lucky few...
Major if not only downsides of the A700 reported by many of us being the following :
- heat issue
- responsiveness of touchscreen
- some minor lag.
Lets here if it has been fixed
Running Jelly Bean
So far, the changes aren't huge. The UI is smoother, the touch screen works great for me though I never had a problem. I'll have more answers once I root this and I'd be happy to try to answer any questions.
Performance much better and touch responsiveness also increased.
After the update total happy with the tablet which was before not 100% the case...
Just got the Jelly Bean update. I was VERY skeptical about this update changing much on my tablet but I have to admit it actually feels smoother, and to top that off I'm noticing a lot better frame rates in the games I play. Here's a rundown of everything I tested and my feelings about each: Rayman Jungle Run which ran like crap before is now playable, Beach Buggy Blitz is super smooth now, JetPack Joyride is smoother but still slower than iPad version, Pinball Arcade is same as before which is pretty smooth except during multiball, Splashtop 2 HD seems a bit slower but it might be my work network will have to test at home later, HD video playback was smooth before and still is now, Swiping home screens is MUCH smoother, and lastly app loading seems to be smoother and with a different animation like a zoom in transition (I don't know what you'd call it but it's cool looking). Oh and browsing is the same to me on the default browser, haven't tried Opera or Firefox yet.
OK, I try to summarize my impressions.
Touch sensitivity:
Sensitivity is better then before, but not that good I had at the delivery status. Since I got my A700, the JB update is my 3rd one. Touch sensitivity was best after delivery and got worse after any update. The JB update is the 1st one with having improvements. Typing text now is nearly it was at the beginning.
Heat issue:
Now this is better it was ever, which means the A700 is now getting really warm and not hot any more. I don't really play that often, but the most heat I had when playing Dark Meadow. After the first 2 updates I had a crash of Dark Meadow after a few minutes. With JB I don't have that crashes and the A700 is not hot.
General:
I'm really happy having JB now It's really good that Acer provided that; you can't expect that in those days. It's awful that other companies want us to buy new tablets and phones every few months. Other promise to provide updates, but they don't. Thank you Acer for giving us JB!
The A700 isn't really good to test all possibilities of Google now. I'm still playing around with that. Maybe somebody having a A701 can tell us more. The other JB changes are more or less minor changes for me. I didn't find that big difference, but the update was from 4.0.x to 4.1.1
The major changes were giving back the touch sensitivity and reducing the heat, that happened.
Sent from my A700 using xda app-developers app
Check your setting, the updates set it back to medium sensitivity
Sent from my A700 using xda app-developers app
Pros
Heat is reduced
Games are much smoother. Played Horn for half an hour with no noticeable lag.
Nova Launcher is perfect.
Screen is much more responsive...Corners register on first touch instead of third or tenth...
My wifi is working wonderfully now. Previously I was unable to watch Netflix or Crackle in the bedroom, but was able to watch my first Crackle movie in bed last night. Speeds are MUCH faster.
Cons
Basic launcher still laggy.
Chrome is laggy and buggy.
Bundled ACER Bloatware eats up much more memory on JB than ICS
I'm pleased, overall. Would never go back to ICS. This is what the tablet should have been three months ago.

Just disable it, if you don't like it. No root needed. No more whining.
.....Obviously.
Still needed to be stated, and it is a fact. Bloatware became more intrusive with the update. I plan to root soon enough and just remove it from the system altogether. And yes, I know I can disable it...I'd rather have the space back.
I got the OTA a few days ago. My first impressions are as follow:
- heat issue: seem to have improved but not a big gamer so not relevant to me
- responsiveness of touchscreen: big improvement for me. Keybord is now as responsive as expected with normal setting.
- some minor lag: NOT improved, seem worse. It feels like the overall OS is not as smooth as before. Will have to look into this.
After update to JB. The overall smoother than before.
But make sure that you need to factory reset your devices after the update.

I didn't do a factory reset after the update. What would be the reason? Just curious....
---------- Post added at 07:26 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:20 PM ----------
I received the JB update today after getting two ICS updates.
On my A700, System Tuner Pro reports ~ 20 deg F lower cpu temps - sometimes more - depending on the task(s) performed. While the back still gets warm to the touch, it has made a big positive impact IMHO.
Touch response is improved and the tab seems overall more "snappy".
Didn't do a factory reset either - is it necessary?
I'll report back more impressions of the update after I've used it for a few days.
Jelly Bean feedback
I am not a gamer, but I use my tablet quite a bit throughout the day for e-mail, documents, browsing, etc. So my feedback is based on my actual user experience.
1. NOTICEABLE difference in touch sensitivity!- I have my setting on "High" and it works like a charm! works well on "Medium" too.
2. Heat issue definitely better. Before JB, the tab would get HOT, but now, only slightly warm. BIG difference!
3. I turned the Acer Ring off in ICS because having it active did seem to cause some lag in performance and screen speed. I turned it on in JB and the issue didn't seem to manifest itself. However, since I had gotten use to NOT using the Ring, I turned it back off.
4. I noticed the added Acer bloatware and am well aware that I can turn it off. It seems like the Acer Cloud platform is simply Acer's method of doing something like Dropbox or Box, or any other type of service like that. I may give it a whirl to see how it does. Since I store most of my "stuff" on my 32 GB external SD card, the added space the bloatware takes up isn't an issue right now. If I don't like the way Acer Cloud works, I will disable the bloatware.
Overall, I think JB is a big improvement over ICS and the tab is finally doing what I thought it should be doing all along!
Again, this is just my opinion!
It's because some of apps is for ICS(you download it from Play Store when you are in ICS).
So those apps will affect the performance.
Remember that after a update, if you want the best performance, please do a factory reset...

Is it safe to do a restore of the apps from My Backup Pro? I don't want to completely rebuild my tablet if possible..thanks
It's save... but can't get the real performace.
At the other post, one of the member also get a real performance after do a factory reset....
The A700 JB rom is 100% confirmed smoother than the ICS. If you feel worst than before, you really need a factory reset...
Thanks

OK. I understand. Since I am not having a performance issue, I may leave it at is. I don't want to have to rebuild my tablet like it was straight out of the box. I am running multiple e-mail accounts and some Exchange apps as well. AGain...thanks!
Hey all,
How is GTA SA working on your Notes? I had GTA VC before and it runs with all settings almost at maximum, but GTA SA runs quite slow on stock rom. I have the following settings and the framerate is still not good enough:
-visual effects: low
-resolution: 100%
-draw distance: 60%
-shadows: classic
-car reflections: off
does someone with a custom rom has better results? If so, which rom are you using?
I haven't tried it on the Note 10 but I played around extensively with the settings on my Moto X.
My suggestion is to lower the resolution, I noticed I could have a pretty good balance of effects/shadows/reflections with a lower resolution. Also on my Moto X I keep the draw distance to 40%, things pop in and out sure but that seem to help during heavy loaded parts with many people/cars.
No lag at all, running 4.4.2 omni rom on n8000. I turned reflection and shadow off.
it runs fine on my note 10.1 with arhd
-visual effects: high
-resolution: 50%
-draw distance: 55%
-shadows: classic
-car reflections: low
It's fine like this... stock rom 4.1.2
I think leaving the in in game resolution to 50% makes a big difference to performance. I'm finding the default settings look great and it plays well. I just wish I could get on with touch controls.... I need to get a game controller that works with the tablet at some point.

off-topic: did you get that red color by installing a new digitizer yourself?
Works a lots smoother if you download Xposed Installer FROM HERE
Once installed open and go to Framework, install and reboot. Next go into Download section and install Samsung DVFS Disabler then go to Modules and make sure its active by checking the box then restart.
When I bought my Nexus 5 6 months ago, everything went buttery smooth. Google apps , third party apps, everything. Changing things to ART brought even a better improvement in performance. But after the Google apps recieved material design face-lifts , every thing ran ... sluggish and quite laggy. Moving between app sections was stuttering , scrolling aswell , and every "material design " animation lagged. I truly hope that this will change with the 5.0 update. But my God, I think things started to run worse, especially when I have low battery. No performance improvment , no nothing.
Am I the only one facing this problem? I don't find it normal for the Nexus 5 to act like that. It's just a year old, and when the Nexus 4 got android 4.4.4, it ran like a champ! What happen with the " you can run android now on 512 mb ram ", or the promised "60 FPS animations" ?
I've been running stock today and dev preview for a few weeks. Can't say I've noticed any lag.

Not sure what you are seeing. But its like butter for me. Best update ever. I doubt I'll hardly mod it. At all.

Odd, my n5 is very smooth with lollipop
This is really curious , because my experience is really bad with it, and I don't know if the problem is hardware based ..

If it makes you feel any better, I too notice the lag in Caldender. Just scroll quickly. It has slight chop in the animations. Besides that, and a few other small things it's fairly smooth.

It's not unusable or something like that, but it bothers me , because the animations are not so heavy..and it should run kinda lagless like kitkat.
I really hope google will update the apps and make them smoother.
Lag in calendar, when you scorl up or down. Huge lag, when i play youtube music in backround (Bad App, or Lolipop? I think bad app). Lag is and will be there, if you want to see it. :silly:
Lag everywhere. I flashed 4.4 kitkat and it works perfectly fine. not the same with lollipop wich lags in every bit of the system when it's used more than 10 minutes. really disappointed

Then something went wrong with your install. Otherwise, everyone would be experiencing this.
it's just super weird. it has moments when it works like a champ, but if my battery is lower than 10% and I'm plugged, everything goes ludicrous.
EDIT :
I tried every method, factory images install and manual install, all multiple times.
It's one of google's most unpolished updates. No dedicated gallery app, no face unlock, no new sounds, sluggish google apps etc. I am a big google fan , but I find my self disappointed.
I'm waiting for app updates and wishing for the best.

Does the status bar and nav bar change colors? I don't know if the battery saver mode activates at 10% automatically since I never let my phone get that low. But if it does, it disable all animations and does become less fluid.

You are not alone.
Animations and scrolling are in fact slower in Android 5.0 than in 4.4.4 by a large margin. You must be blind not to notice it.

no, I know that when battery reaches 10% or 15% it slows down the processing power and eliminates animations.

yes, it usually goes "wild" when I have low battery and it's charging, and that means animation lag, 1-2 seconds for the keyboard to open etc. in rest..well it's acceptable, it's not , from my experience , as smooth as kitkat, but it's usable and ok.
Haven't had any lagging issues, in fact this runs smoother then kitkat did, quite happy with the upgrade to be honest. There is always going to be bugs to be worked out, wouldnt be surprised if we see 5.x.x within the next 2 months.
there are 2 camps. the one who say it work ok and the opposite.
I don't think I have flashed it wrong.
It reminds me of the moto 360 problem. Same as now, some said it's choppy, some said that it's fluid and they had no problem
Anyone who says Android 5.0 not laggy is lying, sorry.
Animations must be instant from a perspective of allowing further instant interaction. Let me explain: when something is being animated the resulting screen must allow interaction as soon as you initiate the change in user interface. Right now in Android 5.0, animations are done such a way, you cannot do anything until animation has completed its transformation - and that's called a lag, a perceived delay in user interaction.
Hopefully Google engineers visit these forums and this problem is going to be fixed in future Android 5 releases.
I can start of I am coming from an LG G2, as we know G2 despite being little bit older is still today one of the fastest devices out there, with none microlag and very very fast animations.
So you can imagine the contrast was so big going from G2 to Mate 7. I did read reviews before buying this device that it was very fast and not laggy at alll..fast GUI.. CPU performance seemed also satisfied. I knew before I bought this device that the GPU performance and Camera was the weaker point, but especially the GPU. But I thought damn it is 2014, so it better be fast... the experience I have after been using Mate 7 for about a few days that the it is anything but fast and non laggy, I think the Mate 7 have constant microlag, the microlag is a big problem, but the biggest problem for me is the painfully slow animations!!!, all the animations especially when switching between apps, such as kik, skype, whatsapp, outlook, these animations are so painfully slow that is not acceptable! I am not lying but the G2 felt twice as fast. In current experience I feel like I have bought the wrong device, but Like the screen it looks better then expected (JDI made) I also like the screen ratio.
But the fact that the deceive is to slow make me very unproductive, and makes me think almost twice before switching and opening new apps.. with My G2 I did not have that in my mind at all I just pushed at all buttons without thinking about it and evertyhing the go very fast and smooth and fast transitions
My questions.
1. The painfully slow animations and microlag, is this realistically fixable with software ? or is the very weak GPU chip
to blame for this ?
2. What can I do to speed up animations and reduce the constant microlag and make drastic performance boost ? My philosophy is if your GPU can't handle all the animations then do not have them to begin with, but the truth is the phone looks like **** without them, I did actually turn them off in developer options but it looks so boring that it is hard to live with it.. the standard setting is 1x I leave at the and putting my hopes in future software updates.
3. Any news regarding Lollipop ?
Go to about phone option in settings and radio the build number 5-6 times.
Now go to developer options, scroll down and turn off the window transition animation scale and animator duration.
Hop e this helps...

Hello, as I did write, I did try to turn them off, but animations is essential, it is is important for a device to be fun to work with, turning them off looks the system looks very boring and non inspiring. Chaning the duration scale to 0.5x did help very slightly....is still very slow.. but I can understand if people getting used to the slowness but side by side with a different device it is very slow.. and the slow animations is to blame.. and every app use animations.
It seem like this, that until the app is loaded in the memory it is slow, the transition to open apps is very slow..
but the way you are using a smartphone is you close and open apps constantly, cause you have a lot of different messaging apps for instance you switch between them constantly.
I have the animations turned on and they are as fast as top-end devices in the market. And I am experiencing no lag at all. I have the 2GB version

So you can actually say you have a 60 FPS all the time ?
there is only 60 fps when you are at home screen but when opening and switching to app it is far below 60 fps..
I hope they get it fixed...
When the new update come I will do a factory reset also..I know that sometimes it can help..
Does any one know when we can expect a new update for European market ?
I am also disappointed after a few hours with the Mate 7 with 16GB. Using especially Chrome and there for example theverge.com the scrolling through the Website is often stuck, the overall performance is not so great I think.
I am using Yahoo Aviate as a Launcher, maybe this makes a difference? But using my 2013 Moto X with the same Setup and Apps is not so disappointing.

yes... especially the multitasking function is slow..takes way too long time before all the apps are presented to the screen which make the whole function slow to use.
But also animations and transisitations in general are slow, they are not 60 fps... and there is such a big difference between 60 fps and slower, it as another experience, where you do not need to think twice before opening an app or using the phone cause everything is so fast that you do not need to think twice about things..

Besides the form factor and screen to body ratio G3 is simply not a good phone, especially the screen is terrible and very dim, I would not be able to live with that since I want a more bright display. I dont know if it happen with another game because this is the only game i play.
The game works perfectly on my old Note 5 (lollipop) but very laggy on my new S7 . It work good for about 5 beginning minnutes then fps drop very bad . The device only waming a bit so i guess its not about the temperature. Anybody have this problem and know any solution ?
yes NFS no limits lags on My S7 (exynos) and other S7 (exynos) users aswell, many games are not Android M or S7 optimized yet
i'm not sure about SD variant though

There's a thread here about this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s7/help/3d-games-performance-issues-t3338882 which I think might apply to you too.
Basically the game service and gamepad service that Samsung installed on the new S7 impact the performance by quite a bit.
no, GameService and GamepadService have nothing to do with it's performance (outside the screen dimming). there's something else at play here. No Limits doesn't even run at the correct resolution and settings (it runs with the lowest settings possible + doesn't properly detect multitouch) compared to older devices with Lollipop. it's probably a combination of events: Google / Samsung introduced something that effects all gaming performance with 6.x devices (and many users confirmed that) AND possible lack of optimization for SD820.
Well i can confirm this as im playing nfs no limits on the snap dragon and exynos variants right now. The SD is MUCH more smoother and i did not know what lag is till i picked up the exynos. Basically both work fine up till the screensapace is filled with rain, reflection and more moving texture effects, i.e when speeding through a more urban landscape as opposed to inside tunnels or that industrial backroads type parts that come up. The snapdragon really shines here making gameplay smooth where as the exynos just drops. Used package disabler extensively on both phones and they're on the same network with airplane mode on (for cellular, turned wifi on after turning airplane on)
Can someone help me plz
The game was working fine but now when i click on game icon the monkey logo comes and then nothing
I return to app drawer
Plz help
