Android Wear vs Samsung Gear

I own an LG G Watch used for the former nexus phone. Now, i bought a Note 4. The Gear 2 is better for this phone than Android Wear general? Does it have additional function? is it worth exchanging the Android Wear for Gear?
Good reading.... http://www.gizmag.com/moto-360-vs-samsung-gear-s/33694/
Compares Android Wear (Moto 360) to Gear S. These are the two I've been looking at.
I definitely think that Wear is better. Just think, your G watch will keep getting updates and new features while the Gear will be totally forgotten about. The cool thing is, I bought the G watch for $80 bucks used from Cowboom and sold my 1st gen Gear for $100. What a great deal for me. Now if they made a Gear S with Android Wear and Gps I would be all over it.

I def hear what you're saying about the updates. Which is a big deal, but the Gear S sure does have a top notch feature set. The talking and making calls, GPS, keyboard, bigger screen plus more that the Moto 360 (and other Android Wear watches) don't have and probably won't get unless a new device pops up. I don't know, I'm still torn but leaning more towards the Gear S.

What do you want the watch to do? The gear 2 which I have now has a camera/video ,IR blaster, make and answer calls you can text use heart rate monitor SHealth sleep monitor ect but it runs Tizen slow development
thanks for the answers.
i would like the watch to do the same as any android wear device, or even better (speaker, camera, keyboard), but i am afraid to change the G watch for Gear due to the limit of pairing availability. if i change the Samsung phone...the watch must go.
the perfect watch would be android wear on Galaxy S
so i will keep my G watch.

smart watch for galaxy s6

Hello all,
Have any of you use a smart watch and which would you recommend.(any issues, flawless no issues)
I have been looking at the Moto360 and LG G watch R.
Thanks
Moto 360 can be bought for $179USD and works great with my S6 edge.
I highly recommend the Sony Smartwatch 3. Its reasonably priced and has good reviews (battery life 2 days). I have it paired to my s3 at the moment with no problems (s6 still hasnt arrived...)
s6 with lg watch R. no problems. my fav watch so far until there is a deal on the urbane.
I have the Gear S and love it. Had the Moto 360 and Gear 2.
In an effort to minimize price and maximize battery life, I got a Pebble. I love it. It might not be as fancy as some of the others, but it does everything I need it to.
The Gear S seems to be working pretty flawlessly with the S6. I've tried out few different smartwatches and so far that's the one I prefer. Especially for matching with Samsung phones. It's got a big enough screen for reading notifications and even supports typing responses. (You wouldn't want to type on it a lot but for a quick response on a crowded train where you don't want to have to get your phone out of your pocket it's invaluable.) Plus, it's the only watch I've seen with a good web browser (Opera Mini).

I love my Moto360 and I havent had any issues with it and the S6 so far
I don't see the point of a smart watch :/

Help me choose!

I'm planning to buy a smart watch and I had two options... The Apple Watch and the Samsung Gear S2.
I've been a Samsung fan all my life despite the hiccups that you see every now and then.
After looking at some reviews I decided to go for the S2, BUT!... The fact that the watch doesn't have a speaker came like a shock to me. I don't want to use it to make calls from the watch itself, but I'm talking about notification sounds, alarms, etc... That when I started checking the 3G version of the S2 (which has a built-in speaker) but I can't find an international new one on Amazon.
When I checked Samsung's site, I found that the 3G version is sold by either Verizon, T-Mobile, or AT&T.
I don't live in the U.S. and in my country, the eSim is not supported yet but honestly I don't care about having an independent watch that can make calls without a phone. It would be nice to be able to accept/decline calls from the watch and then use the phone though.
Now that you heard my story, I want to know what to do to get a Gear S2 that has a speaker?
Thanks in advance.
Take the Gear S3

Hey there! What phone do you have? If you have an iPhone, I suggest a product from the same company as the device. It's more expensive, but it will work perfectly. But if you have an Android phone, then I suggest the Gear S2 bluetooth, the Huawei Watch or the Moto 360 2gen. It doesn't have a speaker, but the vibration is pretty strong. I personally have a Samsung Gear S2 Bluetooth with a Galaxy S7 and it works perfectly. Also note that if you have an Android phone, you can't use the Apple Watch. Gear S2 is, I would say, for the sportier person. Apple Watch is for the more calm and "elegant" person. Also note that you have to get the 3G Gear S2 from a carrier, because it doesn't have a sim slot, but an integrated non-removable E-Sim, which is kind of a smaller chip than a normal Sim card.
So in the end, ios=Apple Watch and Android=Gear S2/Moto 360 2gen/Huawei Watch. I would highly suggest the Moto 360 2nd generation because you can customize it on Moto Maker. Also be aware that the Moto and Huawei run Android Wear whilst the Gear S2 runs Tizen. There are limitations though. If you want a Gear S2, you need Android 4.4.4 or higher and more than 1.5GB of RAM. If you want an Apple Watch though, it doesn't really do much. Also, Apple Watch runs Watch OS 2.
Hope I helped and I hope you make the right choice.

Please note that if you have an iPhone and wish to purchase an Apple Watch, You will need an iPhone 5 or higher. If you have an iPhone 4/4s/3/3gs/1, tough luck because it's not compatible. Sorry.
Hope I helped, Fritz_Frigursson

Thanks Fritz, you really added a lot!
I have a galaxy s5 and I'm planning to maybe upgrade to s7 in the near future (I'm also thinking about the iPhone 7 when it is released) that is why I wana choose the watch first then decide what phone I will buy later.
Since you have a Gear S2, I need to ask you some questions that I hope you have the answers to...
1- I heard that there is a problem that occurs sometimes with daily alarms. Sometimes it won't go off, did that happen to you?
2- Same thing for apps notifications, sometimes it doesn't work on the watch.
3- Can you accept/decline calls in the Bluetooth version then use your phone or a Bluetooth headset to speak?
4- If I get the 3G version somehow while I don't live in the U.S., am I going to be able to use it normally or I'm gonna have troubles with un-needed payments and stuff like that?
Thanks again.

Hello again! If you have a Gear S2 with a Galaxy S5, it will work fine. Now, the alarms and notifications will work but you won't be able to visualize everything on your watch, so be aware that you will need to view most of the notifications on your phone. For example, if you have instagram or a social media account (twitter, facebook, ect..) it will say that you have a new notification. If, however, you get a text message (Whatsapp, messenger, hangouts, viber, ect..), you will be able to respond to it with emoticons, pre loaded quick messages or using a classic T9 keyboard (I prefer the T9). The main issue here is the calling. If you do not have a bluetooth headset, you won't be able to recieve or make calls. If you choose the previous Gear (Samsung Gear S), you will be able to insert a nano sim into the watch itself (it has a slot at the back) and make calls, browse the internet or even play games. It's practically a mini smartphone. Anyways, coming back to our Gear S2, if you get the 3G model without contract, you will probably be able to use it bluetooth, but I'm not sure about the calling feature...
Don't get the Apple Watch, but consider the Moto 360 2nd generation. It's roughly the same price but comes with Android Wear. But if you really want a Samsung wearable, consider the Gear S too. It's got a bigger screen, a bigger battery and a speaker so you can make calls. The only con here is that it costs a bit more than the Gear S2, but it has more features. If you want more features but more bulk, get the Gear S. If you want design, lightness but no calling, get the Gear S2. Always consider the Moto 360 2.
Hope I helped, Fritz_Frigursson

Please also note that the Gear S3 will be launched in September, so look out for that too. That has 3G connectivity, GPS and Samsung Pay. If you want the Gear S2, it's a pretty good smartwatch, but the Gear S3 has more to offer. You can also make calls with the S3.
Also, it comes in 2 variants: Samsung Gear S3 Classic and Samsung Gear S3 Frontier. I would get the frontier, because it has 3G connectivity.
Hope I helped, Fritz_Frigursson

Huawei smartwatch or Samsung gear S3 Frontier

Trying to decide between these two smartwatches and I'm leaning more towards the S3 for the samsung pay ability and was wondering what others chose or if there were any problems with said devices.
I currently have a Gear S3 with a Nexus 6p, and love the combo. It works flawlessly with everything out of the box, with the possible exception of marking messages as read on your phone when you read them on your watch. Otherwise, the Gear S3 is amazing. I had a Moto 360 (i.e. Android Wear) before this and the OS was awful compared to Tizen.
picking up the s3 today had a moto 360 also thnx
I would also recommend the Gear S3 over any Android Wear watch at the moment. Nothing comes close to the Gear S3 with anything using Android Wear.

User ability

Hi,
Just after a bit of user advice, I have been looking up information on both the s3 and the new gear sport, and I'm really interested in the gear sport due to its waterproof abitlities. Which to me means I could still wear my watch while bathing the kids or washing the pots or taking a shower. The question I have is can I reply to notification' s and text messages as well as take and answer calls like you can on the S3 frontier?

AFAIK, the Gear Sport supports all of those functions, it does everything the S3 classic and Frontier do, as well as adding better waterproofing and focus on active "sport" activities.

Not sure where you got that info but the Gear Sport does not do everything. A lot of hands-on reviews (during previews) have confirmed no LTE version, and no speaker on the Gear Sport. It's likely that way in order to have the device gain a better water resistance rating. Strangely, they don't go in-depth about the lack of but call it out and mention to they'll go deeper into that on full reviews when the device is out. I guess time will tell but I think the Gear Sport is more Garmin like versus the do-it-all of the S3.
Definitely no support for making or receiving calls on the watch although you can reply to texts but only if you're still connected to your smartphone at the same time, the watch is 'offline' when not connected to your smartphone although you can use GPS and spotify in offline mode.
