Hey everyone,
I got an AT&T Fuze (Touch Pro) and Im using it on Fido in Canada. My data is working perfectly fine, my only issue is that my phone keeps switching from 3G to H every once in a while, I was just wondering why and whats the reason for that?
Also, I have a little exclamation mark (in a yellow triangle) in the top right hand corner right beside the 3G/H/E Icon. I don't know why thats there?
Thanks to all for the help!
No, that's neither yours nor your phone issues. Once you' re in the better speed coverage, the phone will jump to H or your phone is accessing the internet.
"little exclamation mark" is a "roaming" indicator.
Heres the thing, it jumps back and forth while even accessing/using data.
Is there anyway to get rid of the exclamation mark?
have you flashed the rom?
I would be interested in how to get rid of the roaming icon too.
I have tried all the registry changes to no avail. The icon, and roaming warnings for things like the weather app, remain. It's about the last thing I need to fix but I seem to be stuck.
Im using RRE's ROM. So far it seems to have fixed itself, but now Im having more issues. I wonder if I should flash to a different ROM.
Hi guys,
I have a somewhat related problem and I hope someone can help me out. I just recently bought an unlocked HTC Touch Pro (not the Fuze version) and I am using it with my Fido sim card. Everything works and I was able to setup EDGE on it, but what bothers me is it keeps saying that I am roaming (for example when I access the Weather app). I am wondering if this is just some sort of a glitch due to the phone being unlocked or am I really roaming? I also get that roaming icon at the top. I am located in Vancouver so I am not out of town or anything. I just want to make sure so I don't end up having a crazy invoice by the end of the month. Thanks very much in advance.

It's because Fido uses Roger's towers now, but the companies are still identified separately and therefore it thinks you're roaming. As long as you have a data plan, you should be ok.
PS. Depending where in Vancouver you are, you should be getting at least 3G (3G), or hopefully HSDPA (H), vs Edge (E).

xda_fanboy, thank you very much for the helpful information. I can finally stop worrying. I do have a data plan with Fido so that should do. However, this is the second day of using the Touch Pro and the only data network I get is Edge. The only setup I did to my phone is what is listed in http://www.iday.ca/2008/11/how-to-setup-rogers-or-fido.html, under the Fido section. Would you mind taking a look and see if that is all that I need to do? I really appreciate all your help. Thanks again.

Please see my post at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=3192894&postcount=3 and see if it helps. I believe you also need to go into Settings>Connections>Advanced Network and enable HSDPA/HSUPA to get the full benefit.

I also have this phone and live in Vancouver on Fido. I don't think it will work on 3G, or so it seems. Mine is not the ATT version either, just the stock HTC. Currently it runs fine on the standard network, although as mentioned i have not been able to get rid of the roaming icon, but have never been charged extra. Its too bad we can't use it on 3G, and if any can find a way, that would be awesome, id love to be using the full potential of this phone.
I think we are stuck with no 3G, unless there are any suggestions?
If your not using the AT&T Fuze, then you won't have 3G in North America. Don't worry about the roaming icon. Since the phone (or is it the software?) has no idea that Fido uses Rogers' towers, it thinks your roaming. I have the roaming icon as well, had it on many non-branded Fido phones.
I turned off 3G because I hate seeing my icon go to 3G then H at random times besides when Im using actual data and it seems that with 3G, I get worse reception! Makes no sense I know, I've tried 3 different radio's and all have the same issue. Im thinking if an HTC Touch Diamond Rogers branded Radio will work, then that would probably work the best. Anybody know if/where I can get it?

If you bought a stock HTC Touch Pro (non-ATT, non-North American) then you won't have the NA 3G radio frequency and you're stuck with Edge.
Regarding a ROM, head over to the ROM sub-forum. There's a step-by-step guide on flashing your first ROM. As far as which ROM is best, it depends entirely on what you want from it, and even then varies by personal choice from person to person. There is no 1 "best" ROM. Check out all the ROM threads (there's a Roger's specific ROM available FYI) and pick one based on what you like.

I have a similar problem as Speng2, but I have the HTC Fuze which is the american ATT branded one. I unlocked it, flashed the NATF 4.7 rom and tried many diff radios and can never get more than EDGE. I used to have 3g when it was stock. I live in Los Angeles which is a 3g area. I get full edge signal but no 3g or HSPDA. I have a feeling it has to do with a setting. Pls help.

This thread was specifically for Fido, a Canadian carrier. I have no knowledge of the settings you will require for your carrier in LA, which is the most likely reason you are not getting 3G. I would try contacting them if you haven't already. Otherwise try and find a thread for your carrier, or perhaps check HF (not sure if we can post URL's to other sites). Good luck!

What if you don't have a data plan? It seems that sypod has not been charged extra for Roaming... Does anyone know how Roaming works with FIDO? I just got the HTC FUZE and I don't want to have to pay outrageous Roaming charges. Any Ideas?
Problem:
I have a stock, locked, non-rooted Photon Q, purchased when it launched on Sprint in August 2012. Sprint rolled out LTE in my area (downtown Boston) in roughly February 2013. Since then, this phone has never succesfully connected to, or even detected, a 4G signal.
Android version: 4.0.4
Observations:
Settings > Wireless & networks > More > 4G Status shows "Network Provider: Unavailable" and "IP Address: 0.0.0.0".
##3282# > LTE shows "Enabled: On".
##3282# > LTE is also supposed to have an option to review LTE logs after the first time the phone successfully connects to a 4G network. No such option is visible.
*#*#4636#*#* > Phone Info, ping test shows "Pass" for "ping Hostname" and "HTTP Client test", but for "Ping IpAddr" it shows "Fail: IP addr not reachable". No idea why.
What I've tried:
Obvious stuff. Update PRL, Update Profile, Update Motorola software. Multiple power on/offs, soft resets, hard resets (most recently today).
Sprint tech support (in-store, web chat, phone). Watched them try all the same obvious stuff I tried. Their best idea was to order a replacement phone, and to tell me to call Motorola.
Motorola tech support (phone). They punted, saying the most advanced option they could offer is the hard reset I've already tried. (Seriously? "Level 2" tech support punts after a hard reset?)
A somewhat similar issue was described here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2230107. However, that poster had at one time been able to connect via 4g; I have not. (Also, he had used mods; I have not.) In any event, the post didn't give a resolution.
Any guidance would be appreciated.
How good of a 3g connection did u have? Maybe its just choosing the better connection. Good 3g vs bad 4g

i apologize profusely in advance for this question, but since it isn't explicitly mentioned: you do have the device set to CDMA/4G in Settings/More/Mobile Networks/Network Mode? i am also asking because i have mine set to CDMA only, and i have all the exact same settings and readouts that you mentioned. sorry if you do have that set tho..
in any case, did you consider letting them give you a replacement?

Fair questions; no need to apologize! Yes, I have Network Mode set to CDMA/4G.
As for replacement, it's funny: in the same breath with which they suggested a replacement, the Sprint store techs opined that they don't actually think a replacement will fix the problem. Supposedly, this problem has come up with other Photon Qs before, and replacement didn't help. (That begs the question, what did help before, and why didn't it help my particular phone? Whatever.) So, figuring I have nothing to lose, I OK'd the replacement, but I'm continuing to work on the problem myself on the assumption that the replacement won't help.

ah ok, i didn't know some Photon Qs had a problem connecting to LTE. have you scoured the site s4gru.com? i'm not sure it would help, but it is another forum site, and the technical knowledge on that site regarding Sprint LTE is pretty amazing. maybe posting there would be good.
i looked at Boston on the map here, and it definitely looks like you should be picking up LTE!

good luck with the replacement, hopefully that one does work..

I'm on 55014. Is there a way to change that? I know very little about how PRLs work.
That prl should work fine. I would check your settings under "mobile networks" then and make sure its set to "LTE/CDMA"
Digiblur posted an awesome thread explaining what a prl does over at s4gru if you are interested. Also you may want to check sensorly to be totally sure there is 4G available where you are.

Sorry if this is a dumb question but have you verified with anyone else that they can connect to LTE? I live near chicago and it was almost 3 weeks after sprint officially said they turned up lte before i saw my phone flip to it for the first time.
Just to close the loop on this: the replacement worked. The new handset both detects and connects to LTE, including in all the places the original handset didn't.
I wish I had more information as to why. The settings all look the same. Maybe this was just a manufacturing QA issue? Bad radio? I suppose I'll never know.
But for anyone else who finds this thread after experiencing the same issue -- don't listen to the Sprint techs if they tell you a replacement won't fix the problem.
I haven't been able to find too much info on it. I found a Chinese translation for editing Motorola ESN/MEID #'s. I know there are people out there with this wonderful phone on boost. I was hoping to find out more information.
Any information leading up to me getting my phone on boost will be much appreciated.
I may even put a bounty on it.
I currently have a Samsung Transform Ultra on Boost and it is almost 3 years old. Sadly, it's now dieing and has become difficult for me to use.
I can't give up my keyboard phone. No matter what you say.
??
I wasn't able to find any way to edit ESN/MEID. A user accidently deleted (somehow) his/her ESN/MEID and can't get the phone to work correctly.
I don't remember the thread but you may find it by searching all threads I've posted within this section.
There aren't very much, so it isn't that hard.
PS: I don't know what you mean with "on boost".

Boost is a pre-paid carrier here in the USA. They were a subsidiary of Nextel I think... Now it's Sprint.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boost_Mobile
Any Takers?
I know this thread is a year old, but I did not want to create a new one when this one already existed.
I called Boost Mobile and tried to have them swap my handset to the Photon Q, the lady said that the device was incompatible with their services.
I didn't really get that seeing that Boost Mobile still uses the CDMA EV-DO Revision A for 3G speeds. The Photon Q has this Radio/hardware and configuration. The only thing I saw that could be stopper is, I did a side by side comparison with the HTC SV One and the Motorola Photon Q on phonearena and checked the 4G LTE and the bands both phones used. The Photon Q has the 1900 Mhz band for 4G LTE while the HTC SV One has more (700, 800, 1700/2100, 1800, 1900, 2600 MHz)
although by the comparison the Photon Q may/may not receive a 4G LTE signal from Boost Mobile, it should still be compatible with 3G using EV-DO and below (1xRTT)
would anyone with more savvy than myself know of a way to get this phone on the Boost Mobile network. It is common knowledge that the Boost Mobile network is a scaled down, no roaming, Sprint network. this is a Sprint Phone. 4G aside, it should work.
The phone is not so old that Sprint/Boost will not allow it on the network. I currently use a phone older than the Photon Q with Boost Mobile and I have no issues. I just want to upgrade to this phone. and of course i am using clean ESN/MEID's
any takers?
here's my research. (remove the remark blocks)
/*phonearena.com/phones/compare/HTC-One-SV,Motorola-PHOTON-Q-4G-LTE/phones/7570%2C7253*/
thanks!
Bump for an unanswered question, and a good thread.
Good Luck, OP.
Maybe the Photon Q devices are not 'whitelisted'?
If your informations are correct, there is no reason not to work with boost.
Bump.
Thinking about taking my Photon Q LTE or a used Samsung S4 to Boost or FreedomPop,
Thanks.
I'm reading through alot of the posts about rooting pertaining to the galaxy note 3 but haven't come accross this particular. I keep fiding a clue here and there but nothing with the dead on answer...if there is one.
so, i have a GN3 from verizon and I moved to T-mobil. You might see where this is going already. Actually... I was always with T- mobil and got ahold of the note 3 afterwards. I really like it but it was from Verizon. So i unlocked it and set the proper network, to GSM/UMTS (whatever that stands for)... I turned off the annoying set up wizard that keeps giving me foreign sim card alerts...which turns back on after a restart...so I want to find that bugger and delete it if I can...but thats for another thread maybe...
the phone works and messaging... at home I get my wifi BUT....
I'm st gill not getting the 4g or even the 3g signal.... barely gets though the "H" band? Not sure about the vocabulary..... You can tell I'm new at this but i have no problem tinkering around...
I tried setting it to global which does bring up the 4Glte symbol in the status bar, but it never lights up... like saying its there...but your just not catching it. that's frustrating.
I DID ROOT THE PHONE using Kingo which worked like a breeze.... I only did that thiking I could get some other options to get the 4g. I'm not a developer so i'mnot worried about getting some secret apps or anything.
And thats where I'm at. so, IS THERE or ISN"T THERE a way to get the higher bandwidth. and if it depends on the phone, how would I check. AND, why can I not get into the service menu I keep seeing on youtube. *#XXXXXXXXXXXX#
I put the code in but the phone does nothing. I haven't tried it since I rooted it though...I'll give that a go in a second...
Any help I would appreciate... keep learning one thing at a time
Thanks

Sounds like you need correct APN set for T-Mobile. In your case that will be FAST.T-MOBILE.COM
For T-Mo, the signal will Fluctuate between H+ and 3G. That's expected and depends on your area and coverage there.
Long Story Short H+ = 4G. T-Mo is deploying something equivalant to 4GLTE. Please see #3 on [Baseband] ALL T999, T999L, T999V, T999N Modems! w/ MAP and Data Tweaks! Although the thread is for the wrong device, that specific post clearly explains T-Mobile Coverage rollout and Signal map.
To your device, you may wish to review SpeedTest - Post your LTE speeds and where to tell you speeds to expect.
Since your device really is a Verizon Variant, please carefully review VZW Note 3 N900V Fully Functional on T-Mobile 4G lte (band 4) If you still have issues, please post on this thread.
Thread Closed. Thank you.
Hello,
I recently purchased a note 5 duos SM-N9208 from Taiwan. I was led to believe that the device was unlocked GSM, but had EV-DO capabilities. My understanding was that this would work on Verizon's network, because it had both radio chips inside. I was told by Verizon that "there is no approved way" for them to get me up and running on their network. The tech made a point of saying there is a difference between approved, and no way. This leads me to believe that something can be done. I'm wondering if someone would be kind enough to help me out. Phone is running original Rom, unrooted, and is basically useless to me right now, as I'm desperately clinging on to my unlimited data with Verizon. Is it possible to root the device, and flash the modem with Verizon note 5 baseband info? Any help anyone can offer would be very much appreciated.

Hi, and welcome to XDA!
When I looked up the specs on the Note 5 Duos, unfortunately it says nothing about CDMA. Having both "radio chips inside" can be taken two ways, in this case, this phone has the capability to handle two GSM carriers (and in this case, like most dual-sim phones, only the first SIM can do 3G/4G/LTE speeds).
Network Technology GSM / HSPA / LTE
2G bands GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 - SIM 1 & SIM 2
3G bands HSDPA 850 / 1900 / 2100
4G bands LTE
Speed HSPA 42.2/5.76 Mbps, LTE
GPRS Yes
EDGE Yes

It seems the only option (if you want to use this phone), is to join a GSM carrier like AT&T, T-Mobile, or one of their MVNO's (like MetroPCS).
Hope this helps.

Thank you, Joel! I'm excited to learn as much as possible from tgis forum. I actually changed over to T-Mobile, and have been good for the most part. The problem i'm having now is related to finding a way to flash the radio to all of their Rf's. I rooted, and attempted to flash the modem and bootloader from N920T, but it failed. I am still having a hard timr understanding why the identical hardware will not accept firmware from different model numbers. Again, very inexperienced, so it may be something very obvious i dont know about. If could offer any assistance, or provide and thread links that may be useful, i wpuld very grateful. Ive been searching nonstop, reading, and still cant seem to find a way.

Well, the hardware (particularly the modem) is not compatible, hance the failed install. You are lucky it cancelled out as you could have had worse problems on your hands.
The way i see it, you will have to wait for other regions for the Note 5 Duos to open up before you get flashing options. I would even question the need for that, if you get a decent range of bands with T-Mo (I am assuming you can get 4G).
If you want to explore further anyway, please check out this thread:

It did, thank you! I get decent service (including LTE) almost everywhere. Problem is, once I get to my.house, I go completely out of service. No call.I no text. It wouldn't be a big deal, but the Taiwanese phone doesn't have a way to turn WiFi calling.

Aha. That and no sign of the 700mHz band (which may not be part of your phone anyway, not just hidden by the current firmware).
Since the firmware would need deep support of Wifi Calling (or VoLTE), as in more than just an App, I am afraid you will have to wait until the Duos releases into an area with that support in their firmware (and hope that, that area's firmware doesn't disable a frequency you use).
Makes scraping all the lead paint[*] off the house the more manageable task, doesn't it?
[*] I really don't know if your house does indeed have lead paint. I am assuming it's coated in something metal, or concrete, which avoids typically high frequency radio waves from entering. I never had that problem with my house (which may be strange, since it was built in the 40's), but maybe creating ways to boost the existing signal may be in order instead.
