Compass work ok? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note5

I'm on a Note 3 and upgrading in a few weeks. The 3 has a horrible compass that has to be recalibrate almost every time you need it. Is the compass function of the Note 5 better? Thanks

I too had some problems with the compass, on a Note 2. Just tested it and it's spot on. No problems here on the 5.

Funny you ask this... My compass is almost always 50 degrees off on my note 5.
I calibrate it, it gets better for a while, then I check in a few weeks and it is off again.
Not a huge deal to me, as Google maps still works fine, but it is an interesting observation.

Funny, I didn't even think about the compass till I saw this post. Shows how much I use it. Will try it now.

It's not a deal breaker for me, but you would think that by now they would have it right.

(Q) Nexus S Gps

So...I currently own a vibrant and want to pick up a nexus s mainly because I'll be guaranteed android upgrades. My main concern is if the nexus s utilizes the same gps chip as the other galaxy s phones. If it does, it is an epic fail because gps accuracy is still HORRID on these phones and would be a total dealbreaker.
Anyone know the answer?

The Nexus S has an improved antenna.
But even then the GPS issues on the Galaxy S series were mostly software ones since they've now been patched between the update, and the app ont he market to reset the gps settings.

I've tried every fix out there and it still has me driving next to the highway in the woods or 2 blocks from where I'm standing.
My crappy Motorola cliq has pinpoint precision compare to the vibrant.

But that mostly means that there is still a hardware issue and that means the difference between driving on the road and driving perpendicular to it.

REQUEST
Those who already have their phone: please make a GPS test as it follows:
choose a location outside which you can easily identify on google earth (a tree, a big rock, something small but visible on satellite view)
go out there and use an app which shows GPS coordinates - preferably the free app GPS test
stand next to object and get the coordinates, write it down, etc (for this wait a while till more precise fix)
go back to house, type the coordinates into Google Earth
measure the distance between the location you got with your phone and the real object using Google Earths measuring tool
post the results here
Well, I'm not gonna do all that, but maybe this will help.
I did a cold start on Maps. Got a lock on within 10 seconds. Pretty damn good. Now I'm using GPS Test app and was able to lock on all satellites. 7 out of 7. This is all within my house. Wifi is off.
I can happily say that GPS works fine. From my experience anyways.
Yup GPS is fine locked faster and seems more accurate than my vibrant

It was either Endgadget or gizmodo, but they said the GPS still sucks on the nexus s that it took forever for them to get a lock. I was tired of playing with ROM's etc, which is why I sold my vibrant and got a mytouch4g. I do miss the vibrant, but I geocache and a accurate GPS is something I needed.

load of BS. took less than 0.5 sec to get a lock and the accuracy is incredible.

They also said they were driving while trying to get a lock... And in my experience (Nexus S, TomTom, Garmin), a GPS can't get a lock while you're moving. Maybe the best ones can, but their test is not enough to say that Nexus S sucks.
I feel that I have a bad GPS. It's. Not seeing more than 2 satellite outdoor. I will test it more

Those that say that the GPS issues of the Galaxy S line of phones were fixed via the software update and market app probably don't own a Galaxy S phone. The GPS is definitely not fixed. In fact, it's the only reason why I'm in this forum. I'm willing to give up AT&T 3G for a working GPS -- I plan to sell my Captivate and buy a Nexus S if the GPS works.
Also, those that say they got a fast lock and great accuracy, that doesn't exactly mean anything yet. Most Galaxy S users had great GPS performance out-the-box, and after a hard reset. But the performance gradually degrades over the course of a few days, and then you eventually want to throw your phone out the window. So the fact that only some Nexus S owners have great GPS performance -- and not ALL -- leaves me discouraged. But we should have a better assessment after a few days.
Maybe Samsung and/or Google also released in market the pieces that they have produced, before changing the GPS antenna....
Maybe that's why some users have GPS issues and others not...
So maybe we have 2 deferent produced devices....
Nice scenario don't you think???

Anyone with U.S Sensation How is Touchscreen?

II am upgradable on June 10 and intend to get a Sensation the minute I can at Tmobile.
BUT........ The touchscreen issue....
Could any of you folks who have the US version PLEASE post on this thread your experiences with the touchscreen?
I am dumping my Blackberry and need the touchscreen to work properly, as I will be doing tons of emails, texting, etc
Thanks all
Working wonderfully with no issues. Even if it is lying flat. No lockscreen problems. I'll go see what problems the Euros were having and try and recreate.
-Edit-
Some people said it took a couple of days for the problem to show so we will see as us US folks have had it max 24 hours right now. I can do everything smooth on my lockscreen while it's flat on the table with nothing near the proximity sensor. I can sneak up on it ninja like from under the desk and still works.
i played with one today in the store and the touchscreen worked great also , no lockscreen issues
working great for me(24 hours).
Thanks for the input. Very curious to see how they are after a few days.
I'm in Vegas and my TMOBILE store has nothing more than a dummy at this point, so hopefully the first batch out here is corrected.
Keep us posted

Same here, just got in a few min ago, played with it a good 10 min and was impressed with it.
The thing that really stood out was how quick the camera will take pictures, totally unexpected on a cell phone.
I will be getting one on Fathers Day.
very responsive on mines
Had mine for 24 hours no issues at all..fast!
I switched from a blackberry as well worried about the touchscreen keyboard, but I actually end up licking the touchscreen much more it's just as good as physical keys. It's very responsive and perfect with texting.

Edit: Just had the touchscreen become unresponsive to touch in one panel and then become okay when switched to another panel.
How about against iPhone? Is it as good as iPhone?

I had similiar issues with mine. It hapepened three times that some of the shortcuts didnt respond right away and I had to either open another app or go to task manager to open the non-responding app(it happened with contacts, maps and pandora). I am not sure if it is touchscreen problem or a sowtware problem but hoping it wont get any worse. No problems with unlock screens though.
I have had one in my store for about 4 or 5 days now. When i get in tomorrow morning ill try to re-create and report back!

This phone is so sexy looking and feels so awesome to hold... I couldn't blame anyone for getting intimate with it.
Been using it a lot flat on the desk, not one problem yet so far with the touchscreen. Work is slow today so I've been doing nothing but phone playing.
I just had my touch screen stop responding until reboot twice. I think it's a software issue since rebooting cleared it up. Something is going to be freezing it up, I'll try to get a logcat next time it happens
ive had my tmobile sensation for about 8 hours and had no problems with the screen so far.. texting is nice on this phone its pretty accurate for me.

Hey Drew, or anyone else with a US Sensation.......
How's the touchscreen after several days??

I've had mine since June 8th from Walmart and have had absolutely no issues with the touch screen.

Talk me out of a trip to the At&T store

I've been using the Atrix 2 for a few days now and and seriously considering returning it.
I really want to like this phone but so far something about it just seems "off"
I don't like the camera, I have issues with wifi, and even though the GPS says accurate to 10 meters, when I am in my back yard, google maps satellite view shows me in my neighbor's yard.
I love the size and build quality and the screen is beautiful.
I'm eligible for upgrade in late january. Should I just suffer, then sell and get the Galaxy Nexus when it comes out, or move to the SGS II now and sell it (probably for more money)
My other concern is the locked bootloader. I've never had a phone without access to ROMS and kernels. I know it's a new phone, been out a month or so, but are there any Motorola Phones that have NOT been able to be unlocked eventually?
I'd love some input.
i'm in the same boat.
if development seemed like it was moving somewhere, i wouldn't feel so much like returning it. but, the development section is a ghost town, doesn't seem promising for the atrix 2.
I'm going on vacation next week to disney so I'll put the phone through it's paces, really USE the camera and make my decision when I get home. I still have time.
Like I said I want very much to like the phone.
Same here. I miss my HTC sense already.something just not right about the ATRIX. Considering exchanging for a free inspire4g. Virtuous unity rocks on that phone. Atrix2 camera is really crappy, and having wifi issues.

I agree that the camera leaves a lot to be desired (at least the software that powers it). I can't speak to your WiFi issues, as I haven't had any problems with mine.
10 meter GPS accuracy is about 35 feet. So if you have a small yard it's entirely possible you will show up in your neighbor's yard with 10m accuracy.
My neighbors yard is a good 75 to 80 feet away.

OK, that sucks then. I still haven't even turned the GPS on since I got mine...I will do it now.
I am sitting inside my house, but the location was nearly perfect. Right over my house (albeit in a different room). Oddly, it said accurate to within 60 meters. Not sure why yours would report 10m accuracy and be so far off and mine would report 60m accuracy and be almost spot on.

my gps is really accurate, or atleast accurate enough for me, no problems there
i have no lag issues, but i don't play a lot of intensive games
i love my vehicle dock
my problems are with:
email continuously syncing, even with it set to manual fetch and push disabled
can't see the capacitive buttons when i need to, in the dark, it's fine. light, they don't need to be off, but in situations in between, it's too dark to see them, but not dark enough to trigger the led's behind them
the fact that motorola doesn't seem to really want to bother supporting the atrix 2. they haven't updated their site on accessories being available, or anywhere else for that matter. there's not even a hint of an update or them even addressing the vast amount of issues that owners have been complaining about. i would assume that 100% of their focus is on the razr.
development has gone no where fast.
however, there's nothing really worth exchanging it for on att (at least not at the same price-point. i played around with the hd7s in the store and really liked it, however, it's not a 4g phone. not that it matters since i've never hit over 5mb with my atrix 2. but the device was nice and the ui was smooth. the infuse would be a step down software wise. lg thrill, well, it's an lg...

I use it regularly since the start, I have no noticeable battery drain.
I use it and don't mind it, I get around 2 days of battery with moderate use and some calls. Wi-fi is always on, localization services are always on, mobile data (3G) is always off. It lasts me more than one day even if I keep using the phone so I'm fine with it.
I would say it 'eats' 10 to 50% more battery per charge depending on usage. If you have it mostly in standby you are more likely to notice the battery hit. If you keep using the phone for one thing or another, it won't make much difference.
With 4.2.1 it seems to hold pretty well while being very snappy. The official 4.1.2 follows the same trend (lasting around 2 days with the same use), but I really liked how fast it got with Air Kernel. I usually have around 200 MB free.
I'm currently using Rasbeanjelly (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2028718) with Air Kernel #270 (CM,Voodoo Colors http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1469842) and noop+SmartAssV2 setup. So far battery seems to hold up fine through the day. The only real downside I got from this was the occasional sleep of death (while using the phone, very weird, I would report it to the maintainer but I can't as I'm new around here), a FC when accessing Chrome settings (seems to be related with google sync feature) and the less stellar performance when changing orientation (same kernel and official 4.1.2 ROM doesn't have the issue).
Although it is handy sometimes, I think the worst aspect is the 'nagging' that Google Now has. Last time I got a "WTF" expression was with it saying that I walked 40Km that month more 20 than the last month, a nice feature, but completely unexpected, I would like to have a proper access to that kind of cards and the information that they provide... If you search weather it won't give you the same weather card shown automatically by it (at least for me).... one of these says it will be ready to take over the world...
G next should do you pretty well

I use Google Now because I'm fascinated by the creepiness of it. I like that when I'm at work, it tells me how long it will take me to get home if I leave now. I was confused when one Saturday at 11:45 am it was giving me the locations of nearby restaurants, then my wife said it's probably because it's almost lunch time. Google Now knows what I want before I do!
I haven't tried turning it off to save battery life yet, but I unplug from the charger at 6:30 am and plug in at midnight no problem.

Ok. So I had previously disabled Google Now because it drained so much battery. But I was wanting to use it since the updates keep getting better so here's what I did to where it isn't destroying battery anymore.
I have Latitude and location updating turned off in Maps, but found out enabling Google Now turned location updating back on. So once you have Now enabled, go into Maps and uncheck where it says "Update my location from this device". It still works fine because I have location reporting (or something like that) turned on in Google sync in Settings. It still uses wifi and/or the towers to update your cards, but Maps isn't taking chunks out of the battery anymore.

[Q] Battery Consumption Gear 2 and S4

I have had my Gear 2 for about 7 days now and i barely get 24hrs on a single charge.
What are people seeing for battery consumption?
Am i missing something?
I thought it was the newness and that i might have been using a lot so i planned to reset the watch and not use it that much as a test. So yesterday i reinitialized my G2 and reinstalled the Gear Manager on my phone. I planned for a day of limited use. I turned off the screen motion sensor. Then this morning i took the G2 off charge at 8:30am. I checked the time today maybe about 10 times received 2 notifications and at 8:50PM i am at 49% WTF?
This is terrible performance and sadly i am contemplating returning my G2 to best buy and waiting to see what else comes out in later this year. I also can't seem to get notifications to pop up on the screen. I get vibration and beeps but i still have to open the notification section to read the msgs from my messaging app Invi.
The battery is really going to be the deal breaker for me unless someone has some insight to what might be causing this massive drain.
I've had mine for a little longer than yourself. I have mine hooked up to a note 3 and I have been getting great battery life, in the 3+ days range. I turned off the motion sensor and the battery has gotten even better, sitting at 69% after pulling it off the charger yesterday morning, I am not a heavy user of it however, I use it mainly at work, since I can't have my phone on vibrate, only silence it allows me to know when my phone receives things in a discrete manner. You probably received a defective unit as to the battery life and the notification issues. I would take it back to best buy and trade it for another. My 2 cents.
It is now 12:45AM the G2 has been off charge for 16hr 15min and i am at 20% I have only checked the time about 5 times since my original post.
I don't think it will make it to 24hrs.

That is the kind of performance i was hoping for.
Maybe i will return it for another but i don't have a good feeling. Maybe it is something related to my S4 and the G2 combination.
You need to remember that although the screen is off its still working. Mine is working fine on S4 and I have everything on and brightest it can go and use it a lot .anything over 24 hours is fine to me. Currently been off charge for 10 hours and still 83%. We all use devices differently so it's either defective or something isn't set right.

As i stated in my post i refrained from using the G2 aside from checking the time throughout the day. I completely agree with you. The question is what could possibly be set wrong to cause this,
When the G2 reached 15% at around 2AM (~17hrs off charge) i turned off the bluetooth on the G2 and after 2 hours it was at 14%. So it seems that it is related to the bluetooth and S4.

I thought Gear 2 only work with 4.4?
No they work with 4.3. My note 3 was 4.3 due to Verizon being slow to update. But the gear worked great with 4.3. Works better with 4.4 though. I see better battery life on both devices, it seems to not drain as much.

The same
Bought mine a couple of days ago. Wonderful device, however, the battery last for only 1 day. Running with Note II Android 4.3 . If Android 4.4.2 doesn't solve a problem, I'll head for Service. Fortunately, here is Taiwan there is no problem with that.
